My first time writing here, so be easy on the criticism.

The sun beamed down on the warm day. It was just after school, in the last few days of the school year at Tagwi secondary, and it was time for the sports teams to practice. Today it was friday, which meant lacrosse and cross country running. Stacey, a blue snow leopard on the cross country team, and her friend Maggie, a grey squirrel, are on their way to practice.

Although they have been friends since kindergarten, Stacey and Maggie are almost like oil and water when it comes to school. They both like gym, but Stacey is an bit of an overachiever; working harder in class then in her social skills. Maggie, on the other hand, had a B- average and a strong social life. Maggie liked a wardrobe that showed a bit of skin (so to speak); Stacey was more modest.

"Stacey," said Maggie, with her high pitched voice, "all I'm saying is that you should ask a guy out. It would do you some good."

Stacey blushed, "You know I can't do that, Maggie."

"Oh sure you can, Unless....You don't like boys."

Stacey turned even redder. "You know I'm not gay, Maggie. Shut up."

"You shut up." goated Maggie, before getting a punch in the arm by Stacey.

They walked in their different ways to their diffrent practices at diffrent ends of the school yard. Their school was in the countryside outside of Ottawa, so they had the room for both teams to train. As Stacey was walking to the crowd of runners getting ready for cross country. Wearing the team's modest shorts and t-shirt, in the school's colors, blue and white, Stacey wondered about what Maggie said. She did like boys, but every time she tried to ask one of the boys at school out, she just turned red and walked away before she could even say anything. When it came to sports or class, Stacy could be out-spoken and the type who leads, not fallows. But with boys, she may as well be a shut-in outside for the first day of her life.

"Oh well," Stacey said to herself, quietly, "I guess I should just focus on running for now."

Stacey tossed her backpack in the pile with the rest placed there. After about ten mintues of warmups, the coach, a badger named Mr. Lee, called everyone over.

"Everyone," he called out, making sure that the whole team could hear, "as this is the last practice of the year, a very good year for our team I might add, with us bringing home alot of medals back. But just beacause this is our last practice doesn't mean you get to mess around. But because it's our last one, it will only be half as long. OK, let's go."

About an hour and a half later (normally, it would take about two hours to go to one end of the trail and back to the school yard, but this time, the team turned around half-way through), the team was back. Everyone was rushing to their backpacks so they could get changed. Stacey picked up her bag and decided to see how Maggie and the rest of the lacrosse team were doing. She could tell they were almost done, because of how Maggie, on defence, was making goo goo eyes at her boyfriend, Jacques, a beaver on offence. Although a few players were not playing as well because of it being the last few minutes of the last lacrosse team's practice, some were still playing strong. And then, she saw him.

At first, Stacey wasn't sure what to make off him. He looked like a jet black wolfat first, but then she noticed, sticking out of his helmet were antlers! Stacey soon turned her sights to his skill. His muscles seemed to allow him to pull off almost supernatural dodges, not like it was too hard with half of the other side cought off guard. But, at the last moment, the lacrosse team's coach blew his whistle, signeling the end of the practice. Stacey began to walk over to the school, feeling like she was walking on clouds. Why? Well, if you asked her, she would have answered "Because I just saw an angel."

...

Later, at the front of the school, Stacey, Maggie and Jacques were waiting for their parents to pick them up. Alot of the other kids left, but it was taking longer for them because they lived a little farther away from the school. Stacey didn't mind though, because the boy from earlier was still waiting too, so she got to stare at him.

At least before Maggie shouted " STACEY!"

"What?" replied Stacey, coming back to Earth.

"I was trying to ask you if you wanted to come to the water park with us tomarrow. What has gotten into you?"

Jacques, in a slight french accent pointed and stated "Him."

Maggie looked over at the boy and understood instantly. "Oh, you mean Drake. Do you like him?"

Stacey started to blush. Maggie squealed and hugged Stacey. Stacey pushed her away and told her, ears flat and tail lashing "I hate it when you make that sound. Besides, it's not like I could ask him out. In fact, I never even saw him until today."

Jacques explained "He just moved the area this year, yeah? He lived in BC before this year. He's in some of the same classes as me, so that's why you've never seen him before."

_Makes sense._thought Stacey. She and Maggie were in high school classes, well Jacques was in the more remedial classes. Jacques wasn't a very bright bulb, but at least he was nice. Stacey recalled alot of Maggie's past boyfriends acting like future ex-cons.

"If you like, I can ask him if he's interested." Jacques added before walking toward Drake. Maggie looked at Stacey. She was blushing bright red and was stroking her tail, much like a scared child would clutch a stuffed animal. Maggie put her paw on her friend's shoulder.

"Calm down, Stacey. It's going to be alright." she promised.

Just as Stacey was calming down, a deep-manly voice asked her "Jacques says you would want to go out. Is it true?"

Stacey jumped up onto her feet. It was Drake. Up close she could he was a little taller then her (she was about 5'7", so that would make him, even without the antlers, about 6") and had bright yellow eyes.

Stacey tried to speak, but she couldn't. She had lost control of her voice, which was sort of deeper and more throaty then Maggie's. Stacey grinned sheepishly and nodded her head up and down. "OK, then it's a date. I live right next door to Jacques, and he says he can tell me were to drive, so don't worry about me being late." A horn honks behind him. "That's my dad. See you tomarrow." As Drake left, Stacey's legs felt like jelly, so she sat down, and floated back to cloud nine.....

...

The next day, Stacey was getting ready for her first date (and I really do mean first). Her bag was packed; swimsuit, towel and some sunscreen, so she started to brush her hair. Her hair was long, seagreen, and silky smooth. Her mom always told her she get's her looks from her side of the family.

After she was finished in her room, she went to the living room, decked out in a white t-shirt and tan cargo shorts. Stacey stand down on the coach in the lightly furnished room. On the floor nearby, her little sister April was colouring when she noticed her sister.

"Wow," she gasped, "you look pretty, Stacey."

"Thank you, April." answered a flattered Stacey.

"Why are you dressed like that? Your just going to a water park."

Their mother, who had just walked in from the kitchen, answered "because she's going on a date with a boy."

Five year-old April stuck her tongue out and said "Ew. But boys are gross."

Stacey walked over to her sister and gave her a hug and whispered "Oh April, don't even turn six."

"OK, I won't." smiled April, who didn't fully understand what her sister said.

The moment was cut short by a knocking at the door. "That's them now." announced Stacey, getting her stuff. Before she got to the door, her dad stopped her. Stacey knew what was about to happen.

"Hold on," her father told her, "remeber that talk we had."

"Dad, I'm just going to the water park with Drake, I'm not going to run off to Vegas with him."

Her dad yet out a deep sigh, "OK, just be careful."

Outside, Maggie was standing, wearing a tube top and jean shorts. "Come on," she urged, "the boys are in the car, let's go!" Maggie pushed Stacey into the back seat of Jacques car. Maggie sat in the front passenger seat next to her boyfriend. Stacey, however, fell into the back seat....and Drake's lap. "Hi." responded Drake, awkwardly. Stacey, noticing what happend, moved herself to the seat next to Drake, blushing like crazy.

For almost a half hour, the car was silent, save for the car radio. Then, as they turned onto the highway, a thought ran through Stacey's mind: Say somthing before he thinks your some sort of freak!

The words just came out of her mouth "So....You just moved here this year?"

Drake rubbed his paw over the back of his neck. "Yeah, I lived in Prince George before me and my parents moved here."

"What are your parents, exactly, if you don't mind me asking?" asked Stacey, staring at Drake's antlers.

"Well, my dad is a Timber wolf and my mom is a White-tailed deer. I mostly take after my dad, but I also take a little after my mom's side, as you can see." Drake pointed to his antlers. Stacey also noticed that his claws were darker and thicker, like the hoofed fingertips she had seen on deer and the like.

...

When they got to the park, Drake and Stacey had chatted up a storm, and it turned out they had alot in commen. They were both fans of Simple Plan, they both loved pizza, and they loved action movies. They walked to the front. It was Calypso park, a place that had only been since 2010, but still a fun place to go. They go into the line for season passes.

"Don't worry guys." Jacques explained, "The passes are on moi."

Maggie noted "How? I'm not that good at math, but I know you get $15 allowance and it's one $149 pass for the four of us. It doesn't add up."

"That's what my dad told me," Jacques continued, "Until I said he would have to give me the money for tickets all summer."

Maggie walked up to him, "Oh, that's my bad boy." she told him before kissing him on the lips.

"Geez," Stacey whispered to Drake, "those guys eat face like most people eat food." Drake chuckled at the joke.

After getting their passes, Jacques used his change to get two lockers: one for him and Maggie; the other for Stacey and Drake. They were able to get changed quickly; Jacques into his white trunks with a blue Fleur-de-lis pattern; Drake into some orange trunks with purple flames; Maggie in a blue and green bikini and Stacey into a dark green one-piece.

"OK," explained Maggie to her boyfriend, holding a can of spray-on sun screen, "just hold your breath, and keep your eyes shut."

"I know, I know. Let's get a move on." complained Jacques. Meanwhile, Stacey was spraying her own sun screen on herself. She paused for a moment and turned her head over to Drake. "You sure you don't need some?"

"Nah, it's hard to burn when you have black fur. I don't need it." he said.

As the girls finished spraying themselves, Maggie handed over Stacey the key to her and Drake's locker. "OK, here. Now, before the park closes, let's meet at the Summit Tower, to go on one last ride. OK? See you." she told the pair in an almost too fast to hear voice before running off with Jacques in tow. Drake looked like he got slammed with a Louisville Slugger.

"What just happened?" he asked, scratching his head.

"You've just been 'Maggie-ed.'" Stacey told him flatly, "You'll get used to it. She does that whenever she's really excited, in a rush, or both. When I first met her, she did that and it scared the hell out of me."

Drake raised an eyebrow, "Why would you be scared of her?"

"I was playing in the sand box at the park and she sneaked up behind me, gave me a hug and shouted 'Yay, a kitty cat! Oh my gosh, you're so soft!' Cats don't like being the one being snuck up on." Stacey smiled nervously. This wasn't the kind of thing she talked about with people. Drake held back a laugh. Or at least, he tried.

After catching his breath, Drake apologized. "I'm sorry, it's just so funny."

"It's alright, I think it's kind of funny too." Stacey told him. She handed him the locker key. "Here, you take it."

The key had a safety pin so it could be put on a swimsuit so it wouldn't get lost. Drake fixed it on the side of his leg and asked "So where do you want to go first?" Stacey pointed to a slide in the distance.

"That one."

It was called Vertigo. It was white and had a 60 degree drop from 30 meters. Drake could feel himself going weak in the knees. "No way." he stuttered.

"Why not?" asked Stacey.

"I don't like heights." shuddered Drake.

"Oh come on. I was afraid to go on a date with you, but I did." urged Stacey.

"Yeah, by getting Jacques to ask for you." Drake pointed out.

It was time for Stacey to pull out the big guns. Giving him the 'sad kitty' look. Drake looked into her emerald green eyes, and he couldn't hold her off. "Oh, OK."

"Yes!" shouted Stacey, "You won't regret this!"

"I already do." said a now scared Drake.

By the time they were at the top of the line, Drake was still unsure. "OK, I'll go first." said Stacey. On the lifeguard's signal, she pushed herself down the slide. The drop was amazing, like going over the side of a waterfall, over in an instant, with the water collected at the bottom slowing her down to a stop. She turned around so she could she Drake going down. Suddenly, a chorus of wolf whistles began behind her. She turned back to see a trio of 14 year-old racoons chattering about her. She looked at her back, and found that the back of her swimsuit was riding up her behind. She blushed bright red.

By the time Drake came down the slide he saw what was happening. "Hey!" he yelled at the racoons, "what do you think your doing?!?" He walked right over to the racoons, snarling. "Go. Now." he threatened. The racoons ran off, almost stumbling over each other. Stacey, meanwhile, fixed her bathing suit and gave Drake a hug. This act gained the attention of a few passers-by, who clapped and whistled.

...

"Damn, you know how to pick 'em." Maggie noted later that day. The park had only 15 minutes before closing time, and the couples were going on one last ride. The ride was the the four tallest slides in the park: the Accelerators. Two on the left for groups of three or four, two on the right for groups of two, each 28 meters up in the air. The boys were carrying the blow-up boat up the many steps while the girls walked ahead and talked about their day with their boyfriends so far (and this wouldn't be the last time Maggie got Jacques to carry her stuff for her, but that's another story).

"You mean Jacques wouldn't do that for you?" asked Stacey.

Maggie corrected her, "Noooo, I mean if it were Jacques, there would be three toothless racoons right now, but then we wouldn't be able to come back here. Drake is more of a gentleman."

"Yes, he is..." sighed Stacey, dreamily. She almost drifted off before Maggie brought her back to reality.

"Man, you really like him." noted Maggie, "So, have you??......"

"Have I what?" asked Stacey, not knowing what she meant, precisely.

Maggie answered "You know. Undress him with your eyes?"

Stacey turned so red, it was like she had an instant sunburn. "Maggie! You know I don't do that!"

"Come on, little miss goody-goody. I do it with Jacques." said Maggie, turning around to stare at her boyfriend, "In fact, I'm doing it right now." Maggie bit her lower lip slightly, and then added "Come on. Try it."

"Why don't you jump off the railing?" said Stacey, pointing to the drop.

"OK, he's your boyfriend." reponded Maggie, following her friend.

By the time they got to the top, the boys were tired. They droped the boat onto the top of the Orange Bobsleigh slide. "That," Drake said, inbetween breaths, "was impossible." They sat down and turned over to the lifeguard on duty, a kangaroo to be exact, waiting for the signal.

"Oh, you can go. Your the last people going done today." he told them.

Maggie's eye's lit up. "Sweet!" she shouted, pushing. Jacques and the girls put their arms in the air, well Drake held on to the sides as tight as he could.

...

A few minutes later, in the car, Stacey called out "Man, I'm starving!"

"I know a place in town." said Jacques. He turned into the town right near the park, Limoges, and pulled in a parking lot with a chip stand in it. They walked up to the counter.

A rabbit inside told them "What will you be having?"

"Yeah, we'll have a cheese burger, cheese sticks, onion rings, two cans of Pepsi....uhh, what do you two want?"

Drake told the rabbit "I'll have some chicken fingers, and a lime Crush to drink."

"And two hot dogs and a large poutine. Oh, and a Coke." Stacey added. Drake was surprised. How could someone as dainty as Stacey put away that much? The rabbit seemed a bit shocked too, telling from his tilted head and how the more floppy of his ears raised up a tad.

But he got over that quick and told Jacques "OK, that will be $12.74, no tax."

The group sat down on a nearby picnic table. Stacey started to notice that Drake was staring at her funny. "You know," she explained, "the food is coming, you don't have eat me."

"Oh ha-ha!" answered Drake, "I just can't believe that someone like you can eat that much."

Stacey told him "Well, I was planing on sharing the poutine. But yeah, I can put away some food. Me and my little sister April both get it from our dad. He says that he and his brothers were the hot dog eating champs of their frat house or something like that. I don't know why, but we just burn off the pounds."

Drake was impressed. "Cool. Besides my looks, I got my dad's strength and my mom's agility. I guess that's why I'm good at lacrosse."

"And," Stacey added, leaning on her boyfriend, "Your pretty sexy too." Drake kissed Stacey on the forehead.

...

Later that night, Jacques pulled up in front of Stacey's house. She gave Drake a big hug, grabbed her things and told her friends "Bye."

"Wait!" shouted Drake, "you never gave me your phone number."

"Oh," realized Stacey. Drake handed her a piece of paper and a pencil lying around the back seat. She said the number as she wrote it down: "685-555-871" She handed him the paper before blowing him a kiss. They drove off and Stacey walked back into the house. At the wall across from the front door, she found her sister, sound asleep in her PJ's on the floor.

Stacey's mom, who was watching Comedy Now! in the living room, whispered to her "She tried to stay up so she could ask you about your day. So, how did it go?"

Stacey whispered back, "I'll tell you in the morning." She picked up April and went into her room and tucked her in. Yawning, she thought Man, I better get some shut eye too. She brushed her teeth, and got changed into her PJ's: a white t-shirt that said "Private shirt: do not read." and a pair of black and pink girl's boxers. She dropped down onto her bed, and drifted away, dreaming about her future with Drake...........
