Born from the Ash: First meeting with Volga

In the next few weeks, the relationships between Picson and I became more and more on the blade's edge with each passing day. He used every opportunity to embarrass me, and I showed him my open antipathy for him and his beliefs. Actually I had no idea why he had chosen me as his victim.... I was a good student, with good grades, came from rich family and had no problems with anybody. It seemed he put out his inferiority complexes because I was everything he ever wanted to be but what he never achieved himself.

That day, Monday actually, I had no mandatory lesson, so I decided to check that new shop for riders and their horses. My girls already needed new blankets and halters, and there was no need for delaying that. When I was out of the store about an hour later, with full new equipment, not only blankets, and walking by bus depot, I saw something fall off from backpack of someone before me.

"Miss - miss? Wait a second please!..."

"Do you want something from me?" She asked not very enthusiastically, but the person who turned to me left me absolutely speechless. She was a Dragoness with beautiful a yellow color and a black underbelly; a massive tail with spikes became thinner from the base to the tip and ended with a black appendage in shape of two bladed axe, in size of my fist. Even though she was not dressed provocatively, her body showed very nice curves indeed. Her deep blue eyes were intelligent, even though now narrowed by distrust. She had a small black horn on her upper muzzle that curved backwards to her face, as well as small spikes on her cheeks and her crown. Instead of standard dragon-like horns on top of her head, there were two big and exceptionally sharp obsidian blades, or something that looked like that. But in concept it didn't look at all scary, rather she looked much more exotic, because definitely she was very pretty. By her figure, I estimated her between 19 or 20 years. She was not completely grown yet, but she looked very feminine.

It took me a while to realize I still need to breathe. Recomposing myself, I gave her that item. "I'm sorry but you lost your wallet.... It is almost impossible to find items like this after... you know what are people...I wanted to say...but that is no matter" I started stammering like idiot. "My god, what is wrong with me, she is the most beautiful girl you've ever seen and you blush like a teen.... Keep it cool, damn it, if you don't want her to vanish, you need to do something now!"

A few deep breaths, to calm myself down, and then I finally spoke without stammering.

"I've noticed your direction. If you are waiting for a bus, it will arrive in two hours actually. There is no direct link form here at this time of the day."

"I'm sorry for being so rude earlier on." She sighed deeply. "It's just that normally humans do not call on me when they want to help me. But you're right, I'm going to bus, it should be here in fifteen minutes."

"You were probably looking on the weekend connections - those are stronger, but believe me, you have at least two hours of time now... I'm just wondering, may I suggest a dinner - of course without any side intentions. At least you can kill some time. I know about one amazing place near here..."

She looked at me uncertainly, but in the end she said: "You look like a honest man. I hope it is not a mistake, but for some reason I have a trust in you."

"Do not worry, I will not try anything stupid, I'll take your bag."

I grabbed her sports bag and almost dislocated my shoulder. I didn't realized at all how much stronger she must be even for an average female draconid, compared to human. At least you can see how easily a can be man confused by pretty girl, and she doesn't even need to be the same species. The dragoness noticed my twitch, but didn't say a word. I myself should be ashamed to tell her to take that bag back, so I changed hands and whimpered a few times on our way to the restaurant. Luckily it wasn't too far.

"So, here we are. Hope you will be satisfied." The waiter came in a few minutes

"Would you like to order?"

"I would like some fresh salad."

"Please, miss - I invite you for a dinner, and I stay determined. There is no need for feeling bad or shy."

The Dragoness sighted again, but a faint smile was clearly visible on her muzzle. I had a feeling, that she wasn't used to nice behavior outside of her own clan.

"As you wish. I would like a goulash soup."

"And for me a legume one, thanks."

"Something to drink?"

"Yes Tonic please..."

"Seems at least one thing we have in common, for me too, please."

"And a rainbow trout on the butter as a main course," she tapped slightly on the menu with her clawed finger.

"Great choice, miss, and for mister?"

"Hmm - let's see. Give me a Tomato sauce with meatballs and extra dumplings please."

"By the way, my name is Volga. I've noticed you wanted to address me, but you didn't know how"

"Daryl, pleased to meet you. If I may be so bold, which clan do you belong to?"

"So you know about clans?" Volga asked surprised.

"I'm studying Draconid history, culture and religion. It means a lot for me to meet someone of the Dragon lineage."

"I belong to the Clan Nicore" The waiter was back with ordered food, he placed it before us and left us with a slight bow.

The lexicon in my head had opened itself to the right page. "_ Clan Nicore _... Its members are usually bankers, lawyers and advisors. Their ability to understand and use many languages brought big fortune to the clan, especially thanks to translation of all major literature from the past four hundred and fifty years, even with humans. Current Exarch's name is Kelone, this green dragoness has the reputation of the best lawyer in the subject of differences between Human and Draconid law, unclear events and disputes of property rights in combined marriages."

"Something happen? You totally froze!"

"Nah - everything is OK, I just wondered."

"I'm here mainly for curiosity. I love traveling and exploring nice places. I think I'm somewhat of the hopelessly romantic type person. You know, I just finished my practical training in lawyer's office, at one company here, and now I'm taking a few weeks off."

"There is nothing bad about that at all. If you like something, do it. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy it. Everything will seem better at the moment - believe me."

The waiter was back. "Have you been satisfied? May I suggest some desert for example?"

Volga smiled a little, and I moved my hand lightly and raised an eyebrow while smiling back on her.

"I would like a fruit and ice-cream sundae."

"We have peach, strawberry or mixed berries today."

"Well - strawberry one then please."

"For me just coffee - black, Turkish, without milk or sugar - thanks."

"I'll be right back..."

I looked around the restaurant; finding it almost half empty, even though it was a lunch time. Probably it was because this place wasn't exactly cheap. If I had invited Volga for a Hamburger, she would have been more comfortable I suppose. I also noticed that most of people didn't care about my escort. There were some weird looks, mainly from older generation, but nothing way too serious. The service behaved well too, it was a business after all.

"I know that my father would disinherit me immediately just because of this innocent meeting, but I realized more and more that I don't really care. I was feeling good with Volga, better than for a long time really, and nobody can take it from me, not even that xenopobic peacock. I needed to see her again, at any cost."

"By the way, you said that you like nice places. I think I would be able to show you few a of them if you were interested. How do you feel about horses?"

"Well - I've been in a saddle once or twice, but never actually learned to ride... Why?"

"I know of a place that is quite off limits, and I thought you might like a little relaxation. Don't worry; I will keep an eye on you. It is super easy and soothing."

"Ok - so...when?"

"I have some compulsory lessons tomorrow, so on Wednesday around 3PM? It is the stables on the outskirts of city near the Roseen Park. When you arrive, ask for me or for the main stable-keeper, Usher, he will know about you."

"Okay, so on Wednesday then."

"I was still somewhat perplexed. I paid for a dinner, and even realized the actual price. Was this really happening?" I muttered to myself "The most beautiful girl I've ever seen, intelligent, nice, and she agreed with another meeting. I need to hold it tight!..."
