Tokam slowly raised his head from his mother's side. The early rays of dawn were shining through the hollow in their tree. He stood and watched his mother sleeping for a moment. The sceptile's form dwarfed his own. Tokam was a treecko, and was tiny compared to his mother.

As the sun steadily rose higher, Tokam's mother opened her eyes and focused on her son. She lifted her head and turned it towards him. "Good morning, little one," she said, her voice clear and beautiful. She looked at Tokam in amusement. "You must hurry, if you don't want to be late for training," she reminded him. Tokam sighed and nodded. He hated training.

"Okay, Mom." Tokam crouched on all fours and crawled out of their hollow. He clung to the side of the great oak, the tallest and widest in the entire forest. Looking down at the clearing below, Tokam saw some of the forest's other young pokemon gathering. He began to crawl down the side of the tree to its base.

He reached the forest floor and made his way to join the growing group, however he stayed at the very back edge. After a few minutes wait, another Pokemon arrived at the clearing. A machoke. This Pokemon towered over all the young ones as he stood at the front of the assembly. "Good morning, class!" the machoke bellowed. His voice was deep and gravelly, in sharp contrast to Tokam's mother's. "Good morning, Mr. Torena," the class replied at once. Tokam remained silent and glared at the grass beneath his feet.

"All right you lot! You all know why you're here! To train! You need to learn how to protect yourselves from the world's dangers! You need to toughen up!" The machoke paced back and forth in front of the group as he spoke. "So! Let's begin the first match of the day! I have chosen...Tokam and Raibar!" Mr. Torena exclaimed. The class collectively groaned.

Tokam watched as Raibar, a small ghastly, slowly floated into the space next to Mr. Torena. Then he felt someone shove him forward, and Tokam stumbled to stand next to Raibar. He wished he could be somewhere else. He knew why the crowd had groaned, and he hated it. As the class formed a circle around Tokam and Raibar, they slowly backed away from each other, until they stood at opposite ends of the space that had been cleared for the match.

"BEGIN!" Mr. Torena roared. Tokam quickly assumed a defensive stance as his opponent rocketed towards him. As the ghastly drew ever closer, Tokam readied his move. He began to count down in his head. Three...two...one... As Tokam reached zero, he launched himself forward and opened his jaws. A look of terror flickered in Raibar's eyes, and then Tokam struck him in midair. He clamped down in a devastating bite, the shook his head and flung the now unconscious ghastly from his mouth.

The silence was broken by the sound of Mr. Torena clapping. "Spectacular! An amazing use of the move Crunch, Tokam!" Tokam simply stared at the ground and began to trudge back to rejoin his classmates. "On to the next match," the machoke announced. As the next two competitors made their way forward, Tokam fumed in silence. He hated that Mr. Torena forced him to do that every morning. Tokam hated being forced to use his least favorite move every morning. It reminded him of his father.
