He drifted in and out of half delusional sleep and hallucinations. He couldn't tell where he was, just that it was dark and warm. At times he awoke and wondered if he had been captured. Panic had seized him and he'd groped around for his sword, only to feel something soft and yielding beneath his fingers. He laced his fingers through the soft fur and wondered at it. It was warm and shifted lightly. He turned his head to the side and blushed hotly as he removed his hand from the vixen. So they were safe at least. Jason rolled over and pulled her closer to his body, reveling in the soft fur against his skin. He had long since removed his shirt in an annoyed delusional state and his half-conscious mind whispered primal desires in his ear. His weary body fell into slumber before that voice could convince him to do anything.

He didn't know how long he slept, but knew it wasn't just the incessant grumbling of his belly that woke him. Protruding from somewhere below his belly button, his member poked the thankfully sleeping vixen in demand. He groaned and rolled onto his back. She growled lightly in her sleep but merely threw an arm over his stomach. She seemed satisfied knowing he was there and breathing. He reached a hand down his pants and attempted to rearrange himself and cursed under his breath when the bulge was still quite noticeable. This was how he was supposed to spend his winter? Living and sleeping with a fully grown vixen woman and no privacy to speak of? He couldn't imagine his sexual frustration wouldn't trigger more than his fair share of arguments. And then there was the problem of Lila, who would be more than happy to take care of his morning wood. He would have to deal with Micha's disgust, Lila's rampaging hormones, and Cassie's curiosity. But as he glanced over at her in annoyance, he found that there were worse fates he could endure.

He sighed as he realized just how much he had come to like the surly creature next to him. She was difficult and sarcastic and moody but she was Micha. And she was his only friend. It was just a shame that she had to be incredibly gorgeous. He looked down at his member and decided to blame it instead. Damn it for having a mind of its own. Micha stirred as his stomach growled particularly loud and he tossed the cloak over his lower half in an attempt to hide from her. He didn't know if she'd take offense to his waking state but he didn't want to find out either. She sat up slowly and rubbed sleep from her eyes before stretching. He'd never seen her wake up slowly before. He imagined she did this while he was away gathering water and washing himself up. She pressed her chest to the floor and stretched her arms forward. Her spine arched and he followed the graceful line to her wide hips and rounded rear. He watched her settle back into a cross legged position and relaxed as he recognized Micha emerging. He sat up carefully, keeping the cloak in his lap and stretched as well. She turned to him and looked him over carefully. He seemed to be in fair shape, despite his protesting stomach. She ran her paws through her hair and smoothed the fur on her face before rising. "Stay here. I will hunt." She said. She trotted off and disappeared into a hole several feet above the ground. He heard her creep up the tunnel and settled back down.

He didn't have time to take care of his morning problem and even if he did, he didn't want to risk being caught. He grit his teeth. There were worse fates, he reminded himself. He thought of things he disliked ranging from caged birds to Empire drills. It took a while but he finally went down enough to walk and function comfortably. He explored the cave and found she had removed his chain mail and sword. He almost reached for it, but stopped. He didn't really need it did he? He ended up leaving it and found the water to be a bit warm, but clean and tangy from minerals. The pool was deep enough to cover him half way up his stomach, and he found himself wondering how they would bath without bothering one another. He hoped she had it planned out.

She dropped down into the cavern again and dropped a few fat quail at the center of the room. She sat down to pluck them and glanced up at him momentarily. "Go gather some rocks and wood. I need to start a fire. It is dark outside so you should have a fair amount of cover." She said. He nodded and looked to the hole. He didn't remember coming down it, but he had to jump to even get himself into the tunnel and he wondered how she had managed.

Wood and rocks were abundant on the cliff face and he took several trips and filled an entire side of the cavern with wood, saying he didn't want to have to get wood every day. She watched him build the fire pit and carried the birds over. "We can grow things here as well. There a few patches of dirt on the far side near the wood. They won't be the best vegetables but it will keep us alive. The quail here aren't very bright, so it won't be hard to catch them." She said, settling cross legged next to him. He was powerfully built for someone his age and she detested that she bothered to even notice. The fire was a small one to diminish smoke leaving the tunnel, but she soon realized that the smoke wasn't leaving through their tunnel, but rather, simply floated around the top of the cavern before seeping out of other tunnels much more slowly. Their winter home was getting better by the minute.

He watched her pull the plump birds apart and cook them on sticks. She was careful in everything she did, as if she didn't want to hurt the bird. He joked that it was already dead and that they were going to eat it anyway and she leveled him with a gaze so incredulous he wondered if they weren't going to eat them. "Regardless of their purpose in life, which happens to be feeding us, it is only right to respect their bodies. Their souls might not be here any longer but the rest of them should still be treated with the respect their souls deserve. Treating the body of a kill or a person ill is no better than ransacking a temple after mass." She said. He was silent for a moment, merely staring at her before he nodded. It had taken his mind a while to wrap around the idea, but he understood where she was coming from. It might have also hit a little closer to home simply because she was Furre. He wasn't racist towards Furre as so many were, but he had trouble understanding their customs and beliefs at times. He ruffled his hair and sighed. He knew nothing about her culture, he realized. He would have to watch her more often so not to offend her. The last thing he needed was a surly offended vixen.

"We have fabric now, and there's my chain mail and breast plate. We might be able to sell that once we get out of here. Buy some supplies and whatnot." He suggested. She handed him a stick laden with dripping meat and he took it gratefully. "I will need the fabric. You complained about my chest so it only seems fair to make a new shirt. The shorts will have to suffice for now. It won't be much but it will cover more than this nonsense does." She said. She glanced down at the corset top shirt she wore and her breasts practically spilling out of the cups. He suddenly felt very obligated to look with her and swallowed hard.

A blush crept up his neck and he cleared his throat a bit. He tried his best not to take notice of her body, but when she mentioned it she just became a buffet of curves and coy smiles. "For now though, we need to work on staying hidden and you gathering your strength back up. As much as I hate to play the damsel card, I'm not very good at defending myself so you're all I've got." She said. He latched onto the conversation change and ran with it. He was desperate to think of anything besides her chest. He scoffed, "Try as you might you can't play the damsel card. You might not be a fighter but you certainly aren't defenseless." He said.

She sighed and flopped over on her side to face him. She tossed her tail over her hip and watched him over the flames. She wasn't intentionally being coy, She had lived with nuns most of her life and knew nothing of what pleased or distracted a man. She nibbled on her own share of the meat and thought. Come springtime Lila would become even more aggressive and rude. She furrowed her brow and cursed her friskier side. What a nuisance. "I think, that when spring begins to come around, that I should sleep on the other side of the cavern. Just...as a precaution." She said. Warmer weather made Lila playful but sent Micha into fits not unlike withdrawal trying to keep her at bay. "In the meantime we ought to sleep together. The shared warmth will make sleep easier." She added, not bothering to look up at him. The meat was unseasoned, but fresh and it was a godsend as far as she was concerned.

He narrowed his eyes her direction as he realized what she was saying. But it was completely at odds with the way she was laying and her actions. He didn't know any more about women than she did about men, but he was confused. He shook his head and decided he would work it out later. Body language might not be her best attribute, he summarized. The finished their meal in companionable silence. He began to fidget even as her eyes drifted closed and her mind emptied. The nuns taught her that you learn much through stillness and silence. Jason, on the other hand, hated the stillness. He had never had nothing to do. There was never simply, sitting down and not doing anything. The war didn't allow for stillness unless it was before an attack. And before that his father had him up dawn til dusk helping on the farm. The stillness unnerved him. She cracked one eye open to watch him shift and play with small objects nearby. Amused she flicked her tail and smiled lightly. She never understood the desire to move so much. Wanderlust made sense. Traveling was an amazing thing. But moving for the sake of moving seemed pointless to her.

"Um..I know I slept all day and haven't done anything but...I'm bushed. I'm going to hit the sack. Anytime you're ready, just come over." She said. She looked up at him and watched him slowly rise and wander over to where the cloak lay abandoned. He gathered it up and moved it to flatter ground, a bit closer to the fire. She murred as she stretched and stood. She wasn't overly tired, but he seemed to enjoy the cuddling just as much as she did, and figured it wouldn't hurt to join him. She nudged him and he lifted his arm so she could fit up against his side. He brushed his fingers through the fur at the base of her tail and sighed. She let out a small sound and began humming an eerie melody from her childhood. It was a song that always helped her to sleep even though she could never quite recall where she'd heard it. She let her mind float off and she could feel Cassandra reeling to get out. Micha zoned off into a land where static ruled and Cassie emerged, snuggling closer to his side and throwing one soft furry leg over his stomach and griping his shirt in her small hand. He made her feel safe, so sleeping as close to him as she could seemed to be the only option. He was safe territory.

He didn't end up going to sleep immediately. His mind wasn't tired, but his body still felt weak. He thought of maybe finding bark to put around their "tub" so they could have more privacy while they bathed. Anything to tire his mind out and let sleep come. But the small woman next to him was a comforting presence. He sighed in pleasure as she tossed her leg over him in a hook and gripped his shirt. He stiffened for a moment and almost threw her off, but decided t embrace the newfound affection she was showing. After all, Micha had never actually hurt him. He managed to calm his head a bit, though his heart still pounded in his chest from the contact. He placed his other hand tentatively on her hip and when she didn't protest, he pulled her lower half closer as well, turning to face her, so that their limbs were intertwined and the warmth was evenly distributed. He lowered his head to her neck and breathed in her scent. It was woodsy and musky and struck something deep within a primal very male part of himself. Even the smell of her peaked his libido. He was beginning to think that maybe women were like drugs, the more you were around them the more you wanted them. He bit the inside of his cheek and closed his eyes, unaware that Cassie half slumbered next to him.
