Chapter Fourteen.

Elusive

When Evin woke the next morning his body felt like it had solidified into a solid statue from how stiff he was; with each move he made, it made him feel like he was shattering his muscles and bones. He groaned as he rolled out of bed hearing his many stiff joints pop and crackle as they protested his movement, but he pressed on knowing he had to get out of the city today before people came looking for him, and was also determined to get his gym battle out of the way.

May had stayed in her own room that night, so only Dawn and their pokemon were woken from the sounds his body was producing when he rolled out of bed with his audible pops from his joints. Dawn quickly helped him on his feet and asked if he needed anything. Evin nodded his head and told her that he might need help taking a hot shower today and that he was afraid that he would fall if he tried it alone.

Rika and Dawn both helped him, and though they blushed when they saw him naked as usual, neither were in the mood for fun, nor did they suspect he could handle it right then. The hot water helped to sooth his exhausted muscles and though he felt their hands helping him get clean, he didn't feel excited in the least because each stroke caused him enough pain to make him groan.

He would have preferred to have stayed in bed all day or perhaps a bathtub and pretend he was made of glass. But circumstances demanded he keep moving on this day, especially before a horde of reporters and trainers found him, which was something he wanted to avoid at almost all costs.

After the shower they all redressed, and after all the pokemon were recalled except Rika, they made their way down stairs, where they met the worried looking Nurse Joy. She quickly told them they needed to hurry and that she had already deflected a few reporters that tried to come in the center for them, but that she was sure more would be there within the hour.

Evin thanked her for her trouble and Joy gave them some to-go breakfast just as May came down stairs after them. After seeing how Evin still needed help to walk Nurse Joy asked Evin how he felt this morning and he chuckled and said, "I feel like I'm made of stone and keep breaking with each step; everything hurts this morning."

Nurse Joy thought for a moment then ran into the back room and came out with a small bag of pills and said, "These are pain & muscle relief pills, take two after you've eaten your meal and you will feel better in a while and make sure there is food on your stomach if you need more after the first ones wear out." Once again Evin thanked her and from there Rika helped him out the back door, where they then snuck over to the gym as they ate.

The gym was interesting to say the least, but navigating the roller coasters wasn't very much fun to Evin at the time, as he strived to end the fights he got in with the gym trainees as quickly as possible until he reached Elesa. She was thrilled to finally meet him face to face and talked about a great many exciting things the world had to offer before readying the battlefield.

Evin was a bit more collected now that he had finally made it to her, being that he had taken the pills a while back now. He put Rika up first; Evin had a bluff strategy in mind that he was sure would throw off the gym leader's strategy since it was a three on three battle and her first pokemon was zebstrika, which he knew was most likely her strongest pokemon and he needed to watch out for flame charge.

The battle began with a bang as flame charge was indeed the first attacked called from Elesa, and Evin called for an aura sphere, which hit with massive power. But that attack was not quite enough to stop the charging horse as it slammed into Rika hard before she could dodge it. The battle went on for a few more moves before Evin called for a psychic attack, which threw the horse flying and crashing into the ground unconscious.

Rika then came back to Evin's side when he said she could rest now and then just as Elesa put out one of her emolgas, Evin threw the ball he had ready to go into the ring. When the pokemon came out and the light faded, Elesa was shocked to see Reshiram, but Evin knew better. Zora's illusion ability to make herself look like another pokemon made for a perfect bluff strategy, and her roar even sounded the same as Reshiram. Evin believed using the real thing here was pretty much like cheating and wanted Zora to get more battle experience.

So the battle began with Elesa on the defensive as Evin called for night daze, which threw Elesa off a bit more from not expecting that attack. She had seen a lot of what Evin and Reshiram were capable of from the TV yesterday, but this totally caught her off guard, and when the attack hit Emolga, it was left stunned for a moment.

Evin then ordered fake tears, which once again threw Elesa for a loop as she began to comprehend what was going on. She ordered Emolga to use volt switch and the attack hit with a zap and emolga switched with its counter part.

Zora lost her illusion and gave a growling howl. She was unhappy from the day before because she had been knocked out while fighting along side Evin and Shadow, so she was real fired up now and ready to prove how strong she was today. Evin then ordered foul play and she rushed in at the other emolga and began beating the stuffing out of it before the electric type's ability static shocked her.

She wasn't paralyzed, but knew she better not try that again as she jumped back away from the rodent and the emolga shook its head for a second and then gave Zora a dark grin. Elesa called for an aerial ace and Emolga took to the air and before Zora could dodge, Emolga slammed her in the side and she bounced a few times before stopping and struggled to get up as Evin called for her to hang on.

When she was finally on her feet again, she found the emolga laughing at her and when it made weird faces at her she flipped. Her frustration bubbled over and she was no longer in a very friendly battle competitive mood. She was downright furious, and showed it as she began barking at the emolga with unrestrained rage, dishing out all sorts of pokemon cuss words that no one but other pokemon understood.

This made even Rika's foul temper at times seem small in comparison as the small fox cussed the rodent out. The emolga simply laughed at the verbal abuse as its plan had succeeded and it rushed in with another aerial attack that sent Zora flying. The moment Zora hit the ground she felt dazed and winded, then rodent squirrel attacked her again, but this time with thunderbolt.

Her fur crackled with electricity and she howled from the pain. Once the shock was over she stumbled back and forth for a moment as the last of the electricity left her fur in complete dishevel. Then with a flash, Zora's body lit from within, and before the light of her evolution even faded, a massive blast of night daze consumed the entire area and closed gap between the two pokemon as it blasted the emolga out of the air.

The red blast wave in its stronger form was a real sight to see; Evin had never seen such a display of menacing power, which had also come close to hitting everyone else in the process. Elesa recalled her fainted emolga and said, "You've played a great game with me today, you deceived me into thinking you played your strongest pokemon early on when it was in fact your weakest. Though now you may need to figure out who the strongest in your team really is now that your zorua has evolved.

I concede the battle, I know when I am beaten, and you would do well to know when you are out matched as well. Keeping your pokemon safe and uninjured is a trainer's top responsibility and priority. I would apologize for how mad my emolga angered your zorua, but my emolga is just that way and loves to make fun of others."

Then she congratulated him on his victory and gave him the bolt badge and the tm for volt switch. Then she took him aside so no one else could hear and said, "Watch out for Team Plasma, they will be coming after you since you now have Reshiram and they are even more ruthless then Team Rocket, so be careful." She then stepped away and he nodded.

Evin recalled Zora and he, Dawn, May and Rika then left the gym, but at the entrance a reporter spotted him and yelled out to the others and a large group of people could be seen running over. Before they could get closer though, Evin called out Reshiram and put Rika in her ball so the load was easier, and communicating psychically, he told Reshiram what direction to fly.

Reshiram spread her wings and roared at the incoming reporters, which stopped them in their tracks and with three mighty flaps, she took off to the east. Riding dragon back was much easier then running, but still proved a chore for Evin in his current state as he did his best to not move too much.

The ride was fairly short before he saw the fork in the road ahead where he knew they would drop May off so she could continue on her own to meet up with Ash at another city. When they landed, Evin let Rika, Victini and Zora back out of their balls so they could walk or fly freely as they said goodbye to May. Dawn let Piplup out too, while May hugged Evin before giving Dawn one as well. Once she was done with her farewell hugs, she waved goodbye as she began to walk down the road, knowing that those two had some scary and interesting adventures ahead of them. She then wondered if she would ever see them again after this, and called out to Dawn, "Call me when ever you get the chance, ok?" and Dawn waved back and yelled, "Sure thing, you can count on it!"

Once May was out of sight, Evin sighed as he stretched a few more popping joints and said while trying to lighten the mood, "Honestly I'm glade we met her, but I'm also glad she didn't stay with us. I don't think I can handle anymore permanent girl companions; my body just wont be able to take it."

His joke made Dawn blush as she giggled. Rika was anxious to finally be able to meet the Zoroark that had saved her from the ursaring so she could properly thank her. They walked for a few hours before the trail started getting much darker as the trees got more numerous, and soon they finally fully entered the fabled Lostlorn Forest.

They all talked here and there and asked about what they should expect to see from Evin as they continued walking down the dark paths, but he just said that he didn't know much more about the forest then they did. Then when it came time to make camp that night, they watched as shadows took hold of the trees like a tide of darkness.
