Chapter 3: Youth

Days became weeks, weeks became months, months became years. All the while that these five years went by I always looked to the sky, to the stars, hoping that my father was watching me from Eltoran, hoping that he was proud of me. Tonight was my birthday and it had become a ritual that I would look to the stars on the night of my birth. Normally my mother accompanied me on this certain night, but this time she wasn't here. She had been called by her manager asking her to work she tried to get out of it, but this time it was very important.

Being unable to stay she had called Alice to baby sit me. Alice was kind, funny and caring, but even with her on this one day couldn't cheer me up. As I sat on the back porch of our home I looked up to the stars and thus started the painful ritual. 'I wish you were here father' I thought as I shed a single tear. 'Why did the bad people kill you? What had you ever done to them?' I questioned my own thoughts as my willpower finally broke and the tears I had bottled up since the day I was born came cascading down my muzzle falling harmlessly to the polished timber floor of the porch. I slowly curled myself up into a ball and cried myself to sleep as I shivered in the cold wind of this godforsaken winter night.

I slept for what would have been six hours. I felt very warm as my eyes slowly opened to the sight of the pure white fur of Alice. Realizing I had woken up Alice slowly started to speak, "you were thinking about your father weren't you?" A nod was my only reply to this question, and then I thought of a question that I would ask her "did you know my father?"

"I did know your father" replied Alice.

"What was he like?"

"He was a strong male always fighting for the ones he cared about and protecting the ones he loved. He enjoyed life to the fullest even after his parents were executed for help..." she explained. My mind slowly zoned out and my body fell to the ground as everything I saw grew dark.

Soon there was light that pierced through the darkness and expanded to reveal a place I had never been before seconds later I heard a loud dong sound. I turned around to see a large bell soon I walked down the stairs of this building taking me out onto a busy city street. Somehow my mind knew where to go as I turned right and walked down the footpath of the street. After about ten minutes I walked up to the front door of a small brick house. I turned the handle and walked into the house where I saw two familiar faces.

"Jaden where have you been..."

Everything went a bright white and soon I started to hear voices.

"Wake up...leave this world of dreams and forget what you saw, forget, forget, forget..." spoke a familiar voice before it was overwhelmed by the other voices.

"We're getting a response. Jaidas can you hear me, come back to us" spoke a voice that was unfamiliar to me as the white haze that had clouded my sight started to clear and my eyes opened a fraction.

"His eyes are opening, pulse stabilising, breathing returning to normal. He's returning to normal conscious state" Spoke another unfamiliar voice as my eyes opened up fully to the sight of two humans in white coats.

"How are you feeling Jaidas" asked one of the humans.

"Like I've slept for a whole day, what happened to me?"

"You've been in a coma like state for a whole day my prince" said a young wolven.

"Prince? Wait he is the son of Tali Vexson the chosen heir to the Wolven throne" spoke one of the humans in awe.

"Shut up, do you want everybody to know this kid is royalty? Keep your mouth shut you're putting him in danger by talking like that" whispered the other human, soon the door opened as my mother walked in.

"Lady Vexson is there anything we can do for you" asked the young wolven as she bowed her head low a sign of respect.

"No, I have no need of your assistance, but would you please leave and let me have some time with my son" she replied in a gentle tone as the young wolven curtsied before walking off she then pointed at the two humans "That includes you two."

After the two humans left the room my mother walked up to the bed, picked me up off of it and held me close to her chest one of the ways she could comfort me. "I was so worried about you!"
