The nice ones can be the toughest ones .......

Hey everyone,

Here's the new chapter, it took me some time because I was too lazy to write recently, so sorry for that :-) So, I left the plot hanging a little, hope it was worth the waiting, and I hope you'll like this ! Don't be shy and leave a comment, it will helps me perfect my writing and boost my considerable ego :-) As always, I thank my mate avatar?user=48220&character=0&clevel=2 Gritou for his support and help, with the story and life , I love you Gritou !

Blood was drumming in his ears, his hackles raised and the anger flowing in his veins, his mind focusing only on putting as much distance as possible between him and that tiger. It amazed Luca that Carlo still didn't understand why it was impossible for them to be together, and he had explained that very clearly in the past.

What a jerk, hitting on him like that, and only because he couldn't be alone for a few months! That was the perfect ending to a crappy day, he just wished he could have hidden better and just passed that awful meeting. Why seeing that tiger only brought bad things he does-

"Luca, wait!"

He did just the opposite and accelerated the pace. It would take just a little distance before being out of the piazza and in the bustling traffic of Piazzale Flaminio.

"Luca, stop!" This time, the cry was followed by a paw seizing his arm and forcing him to face the opponent, who was panting a little for the little run.

"Why are you so mad all of sudden?" The breathless tiger asked.

"Let me go, you know all too well why I'm mad." The lupo struggled to get free.

"No, I don't, I was just proposing to see each other one of these evenings and try, maybe, to rekindle our relationship!"

That made Luca curl his lips in a growl. "That makes me even angrier, you acting so naïve! We won't ever be able to have a relationship, that's the simple truth."

"Why?"

Luca first reaction to that was to growl even louder, but then he realized getting all fired up wasn't helping. He put all his energies to rein his rage, which meant to stop acting like a wolf defending his den, and his tone became much calmer than before. "If you let me go, I will explain that, once again."

Carlo looked down to the arm he was holding and yanked his paw back to his side, as if he had forgotten it was there and only remembered in that moment. He had regained some of his breath in the mean time, it seemed he wasn't hitting the gym as much as he used to.

"So, shall we go somewhere to sit and do that?" He asked.

"No, standing here it's perfect." The lupo replied, his voice still colored by anger even with all his efforts.

"Okay." The tiger simply accepted the present arrangement. "The reason why we can't work as a couple isn't because we don't have common interests. What is it then?"

"I told you so many times which is the true reason." Luca answered, his ears flicking.

That needed some time to sink in the feline's mind, then annoyance showed on his muzzle and his tone. "Is it still that story? I thought you would have dropped that by now."

The answer from the canine was swift. "Yes, that story. And it's not much about it, but how it showed who you really are."

"I don't understand why that bothe-"

"That's sad, because it means you haven't grown in these past years." The restorer interrupted.

"I am much more mature than you!" The other retorted.

Luca just shook his head. "You really aren't if you can't see what you did wrong."

"Like it was a big deal." The tiger snorted.

"For me it was, and it's sad that it wasn't the same for you." Silence broke in for a few second, both furs not liking what the other was saying. Luca just examined his challenger, whose very body showed how much he was annoyed by how the conversation was turning, his round ears flicking and his tail moving in jerking movements. It would have been surprising how quickly he passed from sad to irritated, but the tall canine knew that it was part of his nature to change his emotions so rapidly.

"It all turns around that stupid mutt, isn't it?" The striped feline finally spat.

The lupine's reaction to that was predictable. "Don't you dare call him like that!"

"I will call him whatever I want. I don't understand what you see in him!"

"He is a nice, smart young man, a caring friend, it's a pity you can't see that and I still don't understand why you treated him like that!" The dog couldn't stop himself to yell the last part.

"I didn't do anything to him" was the defense of the big cat.

"What? He considered you his best friend, you two did so many things together!" The lupo attacked his prey.

"So what?"

"So what? Christ, you stopped going out with him all of sudden, and when you did, it was like you were tossing a bone to him!"

"I just got tired of him, that's all."

"Stronzate¹! If there was a more sensible explanation of your behavior I would have accepted it, but this is nonsense!"

"Just tone down, Luca," Carlo tried to calm him. "It's simple, I just got tired of him, relationships change with time, and I realized he was such a kid."

"So why didn't you tell him that? You lead him to believe you were still his friend." The lupo said, is tone lowered but much colder than before.

"I didn't feel like telling him."

That was too much. Luca had to summon all his strength to not do something irreparable and just willed his paw to stay closed against his arms. He couldn't believe what he was hearing, and he had heard that many times in the past, it was still so absurd.

"You are telling me that you lead that sweet guy that way because you didn't feel like telling him?"

"I said that, and I'm so angry at him since, because of him, we broke up. He doesn't deserve that much love from you, he was just a friend, and I was your boyfriend at the time!" Carlo accused, sounding hurt.

"How could I be with someone who treated a friend of mine like that?"

"He was more important than me, then?" The attack continued.

"Of course not, you were my first love, still he was and he is my best friend....." The dog began to say.

"You are contradicting yourself".

"..... But what you did showed what a shallow, selfish fur you are."

The stripped cat froze, surprised of what his ex-boyfriend had just said, something he hadn't ever told him before.

"I couldn't be with a fur that used a friend like that, like a second-rate option when he didn't have anything better to do." The lupo finished.

"But-but", Carlo stammered, "I wouldn't ever do something like that to you, I don't understand why-"

"That's not the point, and we can't say that you wouldn't in the end."

"I can't do that to the fur I love!"

"Yet, you abandoned that guy once he confessed he was married. I can understand that being too much for you, but just tell me, wasn't your decision influenced by the fact that it was the easier to make?"

The question remained unanswered, so Luca took advantage of the moment to make another one.

"Wasn't the idea to come back with me sparked by the fact that it was a known path, something familiar and not too difficult to do?"

No answer to that question either, which pushed him to ask the final one.

"Are you sure that you would have done anything for me if I was in trouble?"

The other one stood silent, some realization beginning to show on his muzzle while he was processing those words. After a few minutes of inactions the lupo got fed up of that.

"I see I should have said these things before, maybe you would have changed. I hope that you will now." He reached the tiger's shoulder with one arm and squeezed it lightly. "I know that's some tough things to hear, but you needed to."

He retracted his paw, gentleness showing in his voice. "If you want to talk about this, you have my number. Just, not mire talk about getting together."

He turned himself and made a few step before a voice stopped him. "Where are you going now?"

Luca faced Carlo again, some sadness creeping in his heart to see how wretched he was now. But that was what he deserved now, going through the fires so that he could become a better fur.

"I'm going home, to that rottie you so easily discarded. Have a good evening, Carlo."

He walked away again, nothing stopping him this time. He passed though the great Porta del Popolo to get to piazzale Flaminio, feeling tired mentally and physically.

"Next time that they propose me to guide some Dan Brown fans, I will listen to the omens and refuse."

Luca kept re-playing the entire meeting while the bus was bringing him home, passing under the tall pines and making his way through the mild that was present even during the week-end. He had much time to think about that, and the emptiness of the bus helped him in that thanks to the lack of disturbing noises around him.

Sure, it had been a very intense encounter, and he didn't have thought he would manage to tell those things to Carlo, the product of much wondering and analyzing of his personality and behavior, but he wondered now if he had been too harsh to the tiger. He feared that much of his words had been fueled not only by the anger of the feline's past misbehaving, but also by his own frustration for the annoying clients and his single status.

The bus crossed the Tiber, and the lupo realized that he really felt less frustration and depression than before, venting all of it in that outburst had been a good thing for him. Without it, he could think clearly and with much more serenity, maybe because he faced his ex boyfriend and his good and bad memories about him. It was true that he was single, and that quite some time had passed since he was in a relationship, still, he had a great friend with him and his life wasn't bad at alone.

The taunting experience with the lynx had even gained a new dimension, it wasn't any more just a symbol of his loneliness and inability to find someone, it was a proof that he was attractive, both physically and character-wise, and that he could find someone. Stanley himself had admitted that he wouldn't have tried anything with him if he wasn't such a nice fur, and that statement gave him strength now.

He now understood that his current situation was more because he hadn't tried to do something after his broke up with Beppe, like he was still dwelling on it. It made sense for the first months, hell, maybe even for the first year, but after that it didn't hurt that much, so he had no excuses to be the sorry lazy ass he had become.

He was thankful to Stanley, even if the night stand had brought some evil side effect, because it was the beginning of an epiphany about himself. Well, he was also thankful to Carlo, if he didn't accidentally met him in the street and had such a discussion with him, God only knew how much time it would have passed before the final piece was set in its place.

The bus had almost arrived to his stop, and so was his train of thought. He was young and with a good job, open to what life would toss at him, and nothing could stop him.

"Maybe I should accept be a guide to rabid Dan Brown fans after all."

Ale wasn't home, still out to do groceries, so Luca began to strip himself of his clothes as soon as he was inside the apartment. Usually he waited to be in his room, but since no one was here he could do now and finally make his fur breath.

The lupo considered lazily if he should take advantage to be alone and watch some porn, to relieve himself of some of the tension in his own balls. His cock seemed to appreciate the idea, beginning to hardening in its sheath and to poke a little from it, and the temptation was starting to be strong.

He was half hard once he entered his bed room and his decision was made once his free paw took a hold of his meat. He fished with his cock-free paw one of the DVD he had stoked in his secret place and then returned to the main room, just savoring the pleasure of pawing off to The Gay Labours of Hercules on the big TV, seated on the comfy couch, when he heard a rattle of keys outside the door.

"Cazzo²!" He cursed, immediately releasing his own from the grip of the paw, literally running to his bedroom at an amazing speed and managing to dive in it and close the door just in time.

"Oi Luca, are you home?" The booming shout of the rottie reached the panting lupo in his room, who tried his best to control his breath.

"Yeah, I'm in my room! Give me a sec to change myself in something more comfortable!"

"Okay, I will start with the dinner, take your time!"

That said the dog was left in relative peace of his own room, with faint sound of rustling of paws in plastic bags coming from the other side of the door. Ale had given him some time for himself, and he considered for a moment on going through with his previous decision, grab his quickly subduing hard-on and have that release.

In the end, his larger head made see reason and he searched for some comfy and very loose pair of shorts, to hide his remaining stiffness in his lower quarters. He could always have that lone session after dinner, in the shower or in the intimacy of his room.

He found his friend busy in the kitchen with his undocked tail wagging for the pleasure of preparing their steaks with spices and whatnot he couldn't really identify, the world of fine cuisine being a complete mystery for him. He was more than able to cook the simplest of things, but beyond that he was utterly ignorant, which made him so much happy to have someone knowledgeable of this field as his roommate.

"Could you please set the table Luca, the meat won't take long to be ready!" Ale asked without turning, having heard the lupo approaching.

The restorer complied with the request and began to put the necessary items for the dinner on the table. "How was your day Ale?" He asked.

"Very quiet," the rottie answered, "I didn't do much besides reading some thesis of the students and correcting them. Well, they weren't that bad, they needed just a few corrections and all. One or two are almost done, they need only some adjustment and then they will be ready to be presented! So, how was yours? What did the fan of Robert Langdon do?"

"Eh, she was a pain in the ass, not listening to what I had to say about the places and only asking me to bring them to the various places. She didn't even want to go inside San Pietro, since no fundamental scenes are set in the basilica!" He narrated, shivering to the unpleasant memories.

"What?! That's crazy, how could she skip a visit to San Pietro, it is even free!" The black dog sympathized.

"Yeah, I know, and that isn't the worst part."

"Uh?"

"Her poor husband seemed interested to learn something, and I swear he was eager to go inside, but he is married to that Gorgon, and he doesn't have a pair, so...." He trailed off, letting the other imagine the life of that otter.

"Poor guy, in the grasp of such a harpy!"

"Yes, I'm so lucky to not be straight, I won't ever be in such a situation!" The dog-wolf exclaimed.

"That's not true, even you people can end up in such a situation, so don't boast about that!" The cooker retorted back.

"Okay, okay, you are right." Luca said, setting the last utensils on the table and finally sitting at his place, watching the big dog busy on their meal.

"So, that was your day?"

The seated dog hesitated for a moment, pondering if to tell him about Carlo. "Yes, that is all."

This time, Ale turned and stared at him. "You aren't telling the truth." He said after a few seconds.

"Cazzo! ²" The lupine thought before confessing. "Yeah, you are right. I've met someone on the trip back home."

"Who?"

"Carlo".

The conversation stopped for a minute or so, the information sinking in Ale's mind. The muscled dog had visibly frozen in his place, his tail losing his wagging and his ears not daring to move; Luca would have preferred to not tell him that, he knew it was a sore button for his friend and he wanted to spare him any bad time.

"Oh really? How has he been doing?" The rottie asked finally, turning around and resuming his cooking.

"He left his boyfriend recently. He was depressed for that reason."

"That's sad."

"He is the same as always." The lupo continued slowly. "He hasn't really changed, that's why he left his most recent boyfriend."

Silence fell again in the small kitchen, the two just thinking for a while. Luca actually examined his friend, to see how he was taking the news. He wasn't surprised by his next question.

"Did he ask about me?"

"If I have to tell the truth.... No. But we talked about you, after he asked again why I left him back then."

He stopped talking for a bit, to see if Ale had something to say, but he kept stirring something in a pot, so he continued.

"He still couldn't understand what he has done to you, and why that made me left him. I got so much angry, and been much more harsh than usual, I just hope this time he will realize what he has done! I still can't believe how he treated you, that stronzo³-"

"Thank you". Ale interrupted the outburst, succeeding in halting it and in surprising his roommate.

"For what?"

"For being such a friend to me." The dark canine answered with a teary tone. Luca couldn't do anything but rise from his seat and encircled his friend's back in a hug.

Translation:

1) Bullshit.

2) Literally it means cock, but it is used in most of Italy in the same way as "Fuck", being a word with very versatile uses.

3) Piece of shit. It is the word from which "Stronzata" originated.
