This is primarily a time line for things to come. I have this idea in my head that I am experimenting with for stories as well as the basis of a Mutants and Masterminds campaign.

NASA calls them meteor but nobody really knows what the heck they were. They came out of nowhere, and if there even was a solid core to those glowing balls of weird energy they disintegrated in Earth's atmosphere. But in any case it really doesn't matter as those balls of green, purple and orange light hit us the planet like a runaway train and dispersed in our atmosphere.
Everybody was expecting something akin to a sun flare, a massive EMP to fry all electronics but that's not what happened. In fact nothing mechanical or electrical was affect one whit. It's the people that were affected by those weird energies.

Things are really starting to come to a head as the worst of those that were affected by the energies start really displaying what they can do. Geneticists for the Center for Disease Control in theUnited Statesare the ones to give the phenomenon a name: Unilateral Human Mutation Syndrome. Folks still call those who still look mostly to completely human an uhms or mutant, it's more extreme ones, the human-animal hybrids that began popping up that really scare folks; the kinder name is now chimera followed closely for the more generic freak which is also applied to the human looking mutates to outright calling them monsters, a term some of them actually find comforting oddly enough.

Violence against chimeras comes to a head around the world as most normal humans just can't get used to the idea of having monsters as neighbors even if they once were trusted friends and family. There are some exceptions to this, the furry community across the world is universally accepting of chimeras and in fact many of those who became chimeras were furries prior to the change. Fur Fright chairman Belic Bear being just one example as he was transformed into his own persona.

Religious extremists in theMiddle Eastdeclare all UHMS and especially chimeras to be demons living on the Earth and thus must be hunted down and killed. Adoption of those attitudes come quickly from extreme fundamentalist Christian groups in theUnited StatesandCanada. However cooler heads prevail in the actual governments of those countries with most Middle East nations demanding that all UHMS submit themselves for inclusion of the military in service to the state and the National Union of Powered Individuals forming in theUnited Statesto protect their rights as citizens.

New York Cityis devastated when the religious hate group, the Hand of God, strikes a clinic run by NUPI to care for its members as dirty nukes make the entire area unlivable for normal human beings. President Obama declares the city a national ruin and only UHMS capable of living in the radioactive wasteland are allowed to remain. DC and Marvel comics move their national headquarters to Philadelphia along with Time-Warner and many other big name companies that called NYC home; consequently all super heroes that were based in NYC in those comics are also moved into Philly.

WelcomeAmericatakes on a whole new meaning as a special cosplay fashion show is held at Penn's Landing featuring primarily models dressed as comic book characters good and evil. Also on hand are many UHMS who celebrate their own style especially the chimera community which is quickly divorcing itself from the main of UHMS society which seeks complete integration within human society something that is seen as exceedingly difficult with the monstrous looking chimeras. In association with NUPI a group of chimeras dedicated to aiding all, human and mutant alike, announces their formation and as a slap in the face to national media who might want to deride them the group calls itself: the Monster League.

Members of the Monster League International, Limited Liability Incorporated, attend Fur Fright and successfully defend the venue from the Hand of God, subduing the terrorists without causing much collateral damage. It was noted by CNN that members of the League were especially careful not to wreck the hotel the convention is convened in and when asked why, Kodyax, a Philadelphia member who makes the trek annually stated matter-of-factly that he and others attend this event every year and thus wish for it to continue as unabated as possible. Kodyax later that month appear on the Anderson Cooper 360 segment on Keeping Them Honest to fully explain himself to those watching about how chimeras like him feel about their chances about integrating with normal society which went rather well since Kodyax was brutally honest at times in his opinions which actually scored him points from many viewers as well as the man himself.

Furstivus happens inPhiladelphiaattended to by local celebrity and Monster League member Kodyax who contributes a story and runs games at the convention.Philadelphiapolice actually nip a Hand of God attack before it can begin by arresting key organizers en route to their disturbance in the making. Dancing and merriment was had by all as the weekend was concluded successfully and peacefully.
