Chapter 5 : Sad times
#5 of Spyro: Light shall triumph
After some hints and tips off people, im going to be re-vamping the stories a bit.
Anyhow, in the last story Galinoth found his mate on tall plains and brought here back to the temple. Here the Guardians greeted tem back and learnt about what the group had found. Then during the night things got heavy between Galinoth and his mate. The same happened with Spyro and Cynder. With both couples becoming sets of mates our story continues.
Chapter 5: Sad times
All was good at the temple. It was a bright sunny day and everyone was relaxing. There has been no sign of any suspicious activity for the past 3 weeks. But that doesn't mean there isn't something happening. The dragons and their guests were unaware that a shadow was gathering over the land, this shadow could consume the world if it wasn't stopped soon. Meanwhile Galinoth has been exploring the temple in recent days and has uncovered artefacts that indicate his people have indeed visited this world at least once in the last 3000 years. But his next find was to shock him to the core.
"These are extensive tunnels," muttered Galinoth to himself.
After a few minutes of exploring he came across a set of doors. The craftsmanship looked ancient. He got out a handheld scanning device and analysed the door. The scanner indicated that they were indeed of guardian origin, but it also said that they have been here for 15,000 years.
"That's impossible!" he exclaimed.
After further scanning, the device indicated that there was a hidden panel just next to the door. Galinoth found it and pressed it. The area began to tremble as the doors opened. The room itself was dark and gloomy. Luckily Galinoth was wearing his helmet. The helmet was equipped with night vision sensors that let him see in the dark. The room was huge and high. He was looking for a light switch of some kind so he could see well. Then as soon as he took his first step the lights turned themselves on. This made Galinoth uneasy as ancient structures like this one, though not as old, have been found throughout the galaxy. He gazed around and saw a lot of things that would have archaeologists and scientists babbling on for weeks. The thought of that happening made him chuckle a bit.
But something was drawing him to the back of the chamber. It felt both powerful and magnificent.
After a few minutes of searching he came across another set of doors. These ones were different, they looked brand new. He scanned them. The scanner indicated that they were even older then the ones that opened up to reveal this chamber. But this isn't possible, he thought. A panel suddenly appeared with what looked like ancient runes.
"These runes haven't been used for countless millennia," he muttered.
He remembered an old friend saying that if you do come across any ancient archeo-tech with these runes, use this code. He also remembered his friend saying it was a universal code that would open any door.
"Let's see if that code will work then," he said to himself.
He punched in the code and nothing seemed to happen. Then a strange whirring sound came from the doors. The whirring had continued for a few minutes. Then it suddenly stopped, as if it had been having a discussion. Is this archeo-tech sentient he thought? The doors began to slide aside to reveal a small chamber in which an ominous glow was emanating. This is where he was been drawn. These lights activated themselves as well. The glow was coming from what appeared to be a capsule of some kind. He looked around for a bit, wondering how long this chamber had been undisturbed.
"I'll see if I can open the capsule," he said aloud.
He found some sort of console which had these same ancient runes on them. And next to them was a tablet which seemed to beckon Galinoth to read it.
"Those of pure soul can wield the power inside, those found unworthy will be racked with nightmares and visions of a future that may pass if an ancient evil of this world is not stopped,"
Then the console began to glow. He began to think whether he should enter the universal code and see what is inside or leave it alone and document this place. He thought long and hard until he decided to open the capsule. He entered the code like he did before. Slowly but surely, it began to open. He could feel the power welling up inside it and took steps back, just to be safe. When it fully opened he peered inside.
What he saw struck fear and awe into his heart. A weapon of ancient design had lain inside, dormant for thousands of years. He began to recognise it immediately.
"May the ancestral spirits protect us!" he exclaimed.
He had found the Dragons talon. A weapon so powerful, only the great dragon was rumoured to be the only one who could wield it. It was the shape of a halberd. A long pole, with metal shaped like a dragons head at the end. And Protruding from the mouth was a one meter blade. As soon as Galinoth began the prayer of protection a giant shock wave shot out from the talon.
It ripped thorough the room and sent Galinoth flying.
The shockwave was so powerful that it sent Galinoth through walls a foot thick. All he could remember after that was that he ended up at the entrance of the caves inside the temple. He was too weak to call for help. But he knew the others had felt the blast.
The others were training in the dojo while Galinoth was exploring the caves.
Spyro and Cynder had invited Naomi to train with them. She happily accepted.
They trained with Ignitus first to hone their fire elemental powers first. And Naomi had excelled at this. After that they rested for a bit and ate some fruit. They then trained with Volteer. But they felt the temple rumble and a shockwave rip through it. Everyone was fine, and then Cynder noticed that Naomi was crying.
"What's the matter Naomi?" Cynder asked. Concern was written on her face.
The others were looking in their direction when Naomi responded.
"It's Galinoth, he's hurt badly," she replied. Cynder could tell that she was extremely upset.
"Where is he?" Spyro asked.
"He was exploring some tunnels that he found the other day, he showed me some of the things he found," she replied. By now Naomi had stopped crying.
"What things?" asked Ignitus.
"Artefacts, guardian artefacts, some date back 3000 years," she replied.
Everyone gasped.
"Do you know where these caves are Naomi?" Cyril asked
"I'm afraid not," She replied.
"We'll search the temple grounds until we find him," Ignitus announced.
Everyone split up and searched the temple and the area surrounding it.
After half an hour Cynder came across some strange looking objects. She decided to look around the area.
"What are these strange objects?" she wondered aloud.
After another few minutes she found what looked like a cave. And at the entrance was the lifeless body of Galinoth.
"GUYS IV'E FOUND HIM" Cynder bellowed at the top of her voice
The others raced towards her with haste. Naomi was the first there.
"What happened?" she asked. She was hysterical.
"I don't know, I just found him here," replied Cynder.
They hurried him back to the temple where the others were waiting. They hurried him to his bed where Naomi used a scanner to assess the damage.
"Is he all right?" Asked Terrador.
"He's suffered several broken bones including 6 ribs, one of his lungs is punctured and several arteries have been severed, in short he's dying." Naomi stuttered. Then she burst into tears.
"How could that have happened?" Cyril asked.
"He must have been right in the middle of the shock wave," answered Volteer.
Sadness was written across everyone's faces at this terrible news. As everyone made their way back to the dojo the temple was attacked. Dark apes had gathered forces and attacked the temple in revenge of the death of Gaul, the evil ape king who tried to revive the dark master using the well of souls. No one was prepared for the assault.
They were pouring in from all over the place. The guardians were a magnificent force in battle; no one seemed able to stop them. Spyro and Cynder worked as a team and were slaying left and right like there was nothing else to do. Naomi's fury knew no limits. She was unleashing a barrage of attacks that killed groups of the vile apes with every strike.
Galinoth knew what was happening but he knew he couldn't do a thing to help.
He knew the shockwave had hurt him, but he didn't think it was this bad. He just laid there and waited for death to take him.
The numbers of the apes were beginning to take their toll on the defenders. After an hour the valiant defenders were defeated. They were held prisoner in the dojo when a giant figure approached them.
"See what we have reduced the dragons too, they were too weak to defeat us!" bellowed the giant ape.
Spyro recognised the voice straight away.
"Skullblaze!" Spyro shouted.
"Ah, the mighty spyro." Replied Skullblaze.
"Let us go now!" Demanded spyro.
"Hhhmmm let me think about that..... How about NO!" he replied.
Then he hit spyro on the side of the head, knocking him to the floor of his cage.
"What have we here?" Skullblaze asked while looking at Naomi.
She didn't respond.
"Hehehe, the darkmaster has ordered all his servants to hunt down and kill your kind." He said.
Everyone went wide eyed as Skullblaze razed his weapon to hack off her head.
But then the weapon Skullblaze was using started to freeze and brake up.
"What the?" he asked. He glared at the ice dragon.
"I'm not doing it," Cyril replied.
Then everyone was shocked to see the whole place freezing. The doors to the dojo looked like the source of this strange occurrence. Then the doors blew open with a force that equalled a hurricane. An ominous glow could now be seen through the doorway where a shadowy figure now stood. The dragons were both scared and amazed by what is happening.
"Show your self you coward!" bellowed Skullblaze. He had decided to challenge the figure.
The figure had accepted his challenge and entered the dojo to duel the vile ape.
When it entered everyone's hearts stopped, and their breath caught in their throats at what they saw before them.
