-Chapter 3- Desolation

Kai awoke slowly and tried to move a paw to cover his eyes because the bright sunlight was hurting his eyes. Instantly, pain shot through his body and he yelped quietly. He had forgotten what had hapened last night. About his father, about Tina, about his nasty fall, and his fathers last words. His eyes instantly shot open and he jumped up despite the intense pain. His town, he had to get to it now! He frantically looked about for a mode of transport that didn't involve walking or flying but to no avail. He let out a long sigh and looked his body over, no broken bones but there were definate gashes, scrapes, and bruises. He treid taking a step forward as carefully as he could but he quickly doubled over in pain and cried out helplessly.

"D-damn...it...." he panted, "I've got to.....got to...move! Mom...Dad....Tina....Mrs. Cheryl...they..need...me."

He desperately tried again and yet again he doubled over and whimpered in pain. He collapsed on to his stomach and tears rolled down his soft cheeks. He had to find a way to get back to Canor somehow....he just had to. His body suddenly felt very warm and he opened his eyes fully to see what was going on. His fur, his clothing, everything was glowing brightly as if it had been placed under a spell. somthing felt good about it though, his pains were all dieing away quickly. After a few more seconds he stood and looked his glowing body over, his gashes were healing, as were the scrapes and bruises. Before a minutes time had passed he felt as if nothing had ever happened to him and he took a slow step forward. Nothing, no pain, no stinging...he was ready to go. He looked up to the sky and his mouth hung open and his eyes became horror-stricken. The air was being darkened by black smoke...all of it coming from the direction of Canor. He closed his eyes and cursed his father silently before taking off to inspect the damage that had been done to his little town. What he saw shocked him to the point of tears. His beautiful little town...had been reduced to nothing but smoke, craters, and rubble. He landed in front of his parents house...or what used to be his parents house and ran over to the debris. He heard coughing from under a fallen piece of plywood and he lifted it easily. His mother lay there, half her body trapped beneath a massive pile of wood and metal framing.

"Mom!" Kai cried, kneeling by her side and inspecting the massive damge to her lower half.

"K-....Kai...." she wispered.

"No mom, don't talk!" Kai said.

"I'm...so....glad you're...ok hun..." she said quietly, her voice barely even audible despite the utter silence and desolation of the town.

"Mom...I know you are glad im ok but...please don't talk...I don't wanna lose you!" Kai cried.

She smiled and wiped his cheek with a paw, "Kai, we both know i'm not...ahhh....gonna...make it..." she said, winceing as Kai tried to move the debris.

"No mom! Don't talk like that, you are gonna make it!" Kai wispered to her, his eyes flooding with tears once again.

"Kai....I just...want you to...know that you....were the best son...your father and I....could......have.............ever.................." Her eyes closed and her voice faded to nothing as her chest rose and fell one final time, then ceased altogether.

Kai felt his fur stand on end as his eyes slitted and grew wide. "M-....mom...? Mom?" he said, his voice getting louder with each word before he punched the ground and screamed, "MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!"

He punched the ground over and over again relentlessly, cracking the ground more and more with each blow. He punched until his knuckles ached and bled and his body collapsed in a heap crying softly. How could that...that...that BEAST of a father do such a terrible deed and feel no remorse about it? Kai stood and looked at his mothers dead body.

"You will not have died in vain mother......YOU WILL NOT HAVE DIED IN VAIN!" he screamed as he hefted the huge pile of objects off of his mothers body, summoning strength that can only be brought on by pure audrenaline.

He picked up his mothers body and laid her in one of the smaller craters before grabbing a shovel. He buried his mother and marked her grave with a white cross he found at the old church...or what was left at it. He bowed his head and paid his final respects to his mother before going back to check for his father...well his adopted father. He searched and searched the debris but all he ever found of his father was a piece of his ear. He buried that too and felt his expression grow cold with rage and sorrow.

"Mother.....father....you two will not have died this day and go unavenged...I swear if it takes me a lifetime of searching I will destroy my father and everything he holds dear by any means necessary!" he vowed.

He turned and took off after that, leaving all his feelings and memories behind as he searched the rest of the ravaged little town. His school was by far the most intact thing in the whole town, so he decided to check there next. Inside was a ghost town compared to the hustle and bustle he knew. He checked classrooms, janitorial closets, boiler rooms, training rooms...everywhere and not a soul to be found. there were blood spatters everywhere along the walls as he walked towards the gymnasium. His father had killed many people here...it was almost as if Kai could hear thier screams of terror as his father ripped them limb from limb. As he walked into the gymnasium, Kai noticed the shower room door was open just a bit so he ran over to it and looked inside. His eyes darted to the side just in time to see a huge fist nearly collide with his face and knock him into the door. He pulled back in time and held a paw outwards in attack-ready position.

"Come out now or I'll blast you out!" he growled.

There was a short silence before he heard a voice, a familiar voice. "I know that voice...is that....is that you Kai?"

"Yeah...it's me." Kai said, lowering his paw.

Duke walked out of the room, along with Jazz and a bunch of tina's friends.

"Duke? Jazz? How did you all survive?" Kai asked in surprise, a smile coming acrossed his face.

"I hate to say it but....we ran and hid like little pussies..." Duke said quietly.

Jazz simply looked down and sighed. One of Tina's friends spoke up next, "Kai....do you know what happened to Tina? She said that she was going to your house before...before that monster attacked."

Kai's memories of the night before rushed back to him again and he remembered that he had somehow made tina dissappear from the area. "I...I dunno to be honest." Kai shrugged, "All I know is I sent her somewhere safe...hopefully."

"Hopefully?" her friend asked, "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

Kai looked down and shugged. Jazz was the next of them to speak up, "Kai, how did you get out of all this with not even a single scratch on you while the rest of us are cut up and bruised?"

Kai looked at jazz and frowned, "Because i'm not normal Jazz. I never have been normal according to the Secretary of Defense. He told me I was a half demon, or in other words, I'm just like that monster that attacked this town."

Jazzs' eyes widened and he took a step back, but then stepped forwards again. "Kai you are nothing like that creature and you are certainly not anything like a demon."

"Thats because I've been raised as a normal fur Jazz. I'm sure that had he raised me I would be just as violent and probably more cruel than he is." Kai said.

"Well....the point is you aren't and we all are thankful for that. But the question now is, what do we do?" Jazz asked.

"We find Tina and tell the government about this." Kai said.

"But Kai, why find Tina first?" Duke asked, "Shes just a stupid girl..."

Kai was immediately upon Duke and he grabbed his shirt and pulled the tiger down to eye level easily. "Don't you ever say that about her again Duke! She was braver than all of you last night! She was going to be raped by that creature had I not come along and you know what? She never shed a single tear, not even after sustaining a gash in the top of her head."

Duke's expression became angry but then softened a bit, "Whatever....."

He pushed away from Kai and went to sit on a nearby wooden bench quietly. All of Tina's friends had become wide-eyed after hearing of Tina's predicament last night.

"Poor Tina..." they all said at once.

Kai looked at them all and he forced a smile, "Don't worry you guys, Tina is safe wherever she was sent to.....I intend to find her and bring her back as my top priority now...as for yall...theres a car outside, drive it to the next town of Kulmo and talk to the secretary of defense, I'm sure he's still home. You must tell him everything that happened last night ok?"

"But....why not all of us go find Tina Kai?" Jazz asked, not wanting to get separated from his best friend a second time.

"Jazz......." Kai began. He walked over to his friend and placed a gentle paw on his shoulder. "Listen to me....I have to go alone because I'll be able to find her the fastest. I'm the only one who can fly and at much greater speeds than any car on this planet."

Jazz began to open his mouth in protest but just sighed, "Kai, you are my best friend....and I respect your judgement."

Duke finally spoke up again, "Well, did the man stutter? Lets get moving or else we might end up getting beat to the Secretaries office by Kai."

Kai smirked at his words and his eyes became more serious, "So we all know the plan then?"

They all nodded but Jazz, who simply looked down, a rather disheartened look in his eyes. Kai wanted to take Jazz with him, he really did but...he would just be extra weight.

"Alright then, I'll meet up with you guys at his house, until then, farewell!" Kai said, starting to sprint towards a hole in the ceiling.

With one mightly flap of his wings he was off and into the sky at breakneck speed. He had a sinking feeling that he was running out of time...but for what? He didn't know and he quite frankly didn't care, he just wanted to find Tina and get her to safety, true safety. The question was...where to look? Tina could be anywhere on the planet for all Kai knew and to top that off...his father was most likely searching too. At that thought Kai got a new feeling, not a normal feeling like joy, anger, or sorrow...but a feeling like somthing was guideing him to what he wanted. he couldn't explain it at all but he veered a sharp right and went even faster, the world below becoming a mere blur of its former self. In his thoughts one word rang out over and over again, "Tina....Tina....Tina......Tina....TINA!"

He was close now, he could feel it. he also sensed somthing else in the air...murderous intent. He could not tell whom it was from but he feared it just might be his father. But how could he have found her so quickly unless....he had sensed where she was right when Kai had? For Tina's sake...and his own, Kai hoped that was not the case. Kai began to slow until finally he halted over a cave. There was a red sports car outside and in the passenger seat was a rather large magnum. He was glad it wasn't his father who the murderous intent was from but...he had to get inside and save Tina! With a growl of rage Kai dropped and dashed inside, the cave itself not being very deep he could still see clearly in the dim light. What he saw shocked him, the two driving the car had been a rather muscular male Lion and a skinny greenish dragon and they were both....doing things to poor Tina that he had hoped he would never see happen to her. It didn't look like she had lost her virginity quite yet but the two had obviously been getting there. His mind was now racing, about Tina, her situation, the two raping her unconsciouss body.

"Y-you.....you unbelievable bastards!" Kai hissed, causing the two to look up from thier dirty deed.

"Shit! When did that kid get here?" the lion growled.

"Hell if i know man....hey kid if you know whats good for you, get the hell outta here and don't tell nobody what you seen!" the dragon hissed.

Kai laughed audibly, "Thats funny...thats real funny...you expect me to just let you rape her? I don't think so you assholes!"

The lion pulled out a shotgun from behind a rock and growled, "Listen kid, I don't wanna hurt y-....."

He was cut off as Kai vanished from sight. They looked about the cave frantically but to no avail, the winged fox had dissappeared.

"Where the hell did that kid go?" the dragon wondered aloud

A voice rang out in the cave...it wasn't like Kai's but it still had that general tone to it. The differences were in the facts that Kai's voice was generally warm, even when angered...this voice was..cold..unfeeling...merciless. You see the truth was..Kai had lost himself in his demonic instincts and was now intending to brutally murder the two in the cave by any means necessary.

"I'm right here under your nose you fuckers...." he said.

"They looked down and right as thier eyes met thier feet, up popped Kai, fangs bared and claws outstreched. They tried to scream but it was too late, he latched onto thier throats with both paws and slung them into the caves walls with a hard CRACK! The caves wall cracked and broke around thier bodies as they slid down, unconciouss and badly damaged from the single blow. Kai was about to cry out and rip thier necks apart but he heard a small voice behind him.

"Kai....please....please don't kill them....."

He turned and instantly returned to his senses, it was Tina, she had awoken during the fight and watched him brutally slam the two into the wall. Now she sat there, naked and shivering with the cold, or fear. Kai rushed over to her and offered a hand down to her, to help her up. At first, she seemed more interested in making sure he didn't see her exposed womanhood and breasts but she realized he must have seen plenty of them already so what difference did it make? She took his hand and as he helped her up she flung her arms around him.

"Kai...thank you for not killing them...I still want them punished for what they did to me but...death is not what they deserve." she said as she looked up into his eyes, "And you.....you not only saved me from your father but then you saved me from those two thugs as well...Kai, I owe you my life many times over."

Kai shooshed her with a gentle finger and bent his ears low towards his head, shocked himself at what he was about to do. He leaned forwards and kissed Tina on the lips softly, bracing himself in case she smacked him. her reaction was quite the opposite though, although a bit shocked she closed her eyes and leaning harder into Kai's strong body, kissing him right back. As the kiss broke the two looked at one another and blushed.

"Tina I-...I'm sorry...I don't know what came over me."

She shook her and head smiled, "Kai, I've wanted you to do that for some time now....I've just been too shy and proud to admit it."

Kai smiled and kissed her once more, "I'm really glad to hear that...I spose you heard what i told my father...about you too right?"

She nodded and nuzzled his neck, "It made me the happiest I've been in a long while to hear you say that Kai."

Kai picked her up into his strong arms and carried her outside, where her clothes were waiting in the back seat of the car. Kai was surprised he had not smelled them before he went into the cave. Had he known he would have ran in swingin' away. Tina got dressed and then climbed back into Kai's arms.

"Kai.....lets go home....." she said quietly, instantly falling into a fatigued slumber.

Kai wondered how he was gonna tell her that home was no longer there.....but that was somthing for a later time. He took off and flew towards Kulmo as quick as he could, glancing down at the girl in his arms every now and then.

"I may have failed you mom and dad....." he thought, "But I swear...I will always protect Tina with my life....no matter what!"
