Part 2

James woke early at six in the morning like he did every morning in spite of having gone to bed about five hours ago. Katherine had somehow rolled off of him in the night after his knot had shrunk enough to slip out of her and his dick retreated into his sheathe. Her arms and legs were draped over the wolf's body, her small feline paws kneading at the fur on his chest. James could only smiles at his sleeping mate, wanting to lay there with her longer, but knew he had to start his morning workout before the day got too hot.

Extracting himself from Kitty's arms causing her to mumble in her sleep, he carefully crawled himself out of bed. He pulled on the pair of boxers he wore yesterday not wanting to dirty a new pair just yet and put on his running shorts. Grabbing his smartphone and headphones from the nightstand he stepped out of the room and shut the door quietly behind him.

The home his housing allowance from the military paid for was a very nice one. It was large, especially for just him and Katherine living alone together, though he knew in less than six months that would all change. The living room was nice and spacious, with its leather couch sitting under a large window next to the front door. Across from that was a large LED TV he bought with his modest paycheck. To the Left was the hallway back to his and Kitty's bedroom, office, and guess bedroom and the right was the kitchen with a door to the garage which was James's destination.

It was a double car garage. Half of it was occupied by the new blue minivan his mate had bought recently after learning she was pregnant while the other half was James's small workout area to keep him fit for the military. Setting his phone into its docking speakers and set it to start playing his workout playlist, he got started with push-ups.

James reveled in the feeling of the slight ache that came with every repetion. Up and back down, over and over, counting each one in his head. His arms began shaking as he started in on his sixth set of twenty-five push-ups.

His arms could barely lift his own weight as he reached his last three. "Twenty-three," he counted out loud as he just barely managed to push himself back into the up position. Slowly he lowered himself back down and nearly collapsed face first onto blue workout. He unconsciously whipped his tail side-to-side in frustration as he pushed himself back up. "Twenty-four!" He stopped for a moment in the up position, his breath coming heavy.

"One more," he whispered to no one in particular. He lowered himself back down until the tip of his nose just barely brushed the ground, his arms forming a perfect ninety degree angle. With one final burst of strength from some inner reserve he pushed up. "Twenty-f-fuck!" he yelled just as his arms snapped straight and then collapsed under his weight causing him to fall to the ground. He had just managed to twist his neck to keep from bloodying his muzzle like he did several times before and just laid there, his breath coming in great gasps and his heart hammering in his chest.

It had always embarrassed him that he sucked in push-ups, excelling all the other parts in his Physical Training Tests, but always coming out with the bare minimum marks when it came to these.

Rolling over onto his back to finish the rest of his exercise. First sit-ups, then pull-ups, followed by squats, and then finally ten minutes of jumping rope. When that was all done he grabbed his smart phone back from its speakers and plugging the headphones in. He stuffed the phone into the pocket of his shorts and stuck the ear buds into his pointed ears.

The sun was just peaking over the horizon as he made his way out the door. The air cool from the night, but James knew that would soon be replaced in a couple hours. The wolf ran down to the end of the street, passing the houses that lined his blocks. He briefly saluted a cougar who served on the same base he did as they passed each other. The black-furred feline, nodding in acknowledgement to the wolf, being of higher rank, and kept up his own pace in the opposite direction. James kept on running, his breath calm and even, his muscles singing both in pain and pleasure of the exertion. As soon as he passed the house he used as a two mile marker, he turned back around and made his way home. Before he even got halfway back the soft robotic voice that the manufacturers of his phone used whispered in his ear, "Call from . . . Mom."

James slowed to a jog and then to a walk as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. Pressing the green answer button, he brought to phone to his mouth like a walkie-talkie, not needing to put it to his ears with the headphones in, and said, "Hey, mom can I . . . "

"When did you plan to tell me Katherine was pregnant," came his mom's voice over the phone. While he could tell she was acting mad, he could hear light and gentler tones behind her words indicating her excitement.

James winced inwardly having planned to wait till they met in person next week to tell them. "Next week when you guys came down. How did you find out?" he asked even though he could probably already guess the answer.

"Katherine's furbook," she said simply. Furbook. Of course. James had asked Kitty to wait to post that, but he knew that the excitement must have been too much for her handle and went ahead and did it. He couldn't really blame her either, the knowledge that his pups were growing inside her made him wanted to tell his friends as they sat around the lunch table in the mess hall for the past two weeks.

James shut his eyes and massaged the bone ridge between his eyes and sighed, "I'm on my run, mom. Can I call you back once I'm home? We'll set up a video call even."

"Ok, but you better call me, Mister," she said. "If not, there will be hell to pay."

"Yes, Mother." James said as he hung up.

The rest of his run went rather smoothly, though now his phone seemed to vibrate constantly with incoming messages and realized that Kitty had probably just posted this on her profile. By the time he had run the last mile to home, he had at least twenty new messages on his phone, all of them from family or close friends congratulating him. He grabbed an old shirt that he had left in his truck, using it to wipe the sweat from his face as he slowed his breathing down.

Kitty was standing in front of the oven as James came through the door, her back to him. The wolf's nose quivered as he smelled the omelets that his mate was cooking. Making sure she was intent on her cooking, he snuck around the island, his paws not making a sound on the white tiled floor. James came up behind the feline and wrapped his arms around her waist causing her to squeal in surprise and delight. He buried his muzzle into the fur of her neck and took a deep whiff of her freshly shampooed fur as he ran his large paws over her growing belly.

"I thought we decided to wait till next week to tell everyone," he whispered into her ear.

James could feel the deep rumbling purr emanate from the feline's back and into his chest as he held her tight against him. She moaned softly as he gave her ear a lick and backed off so she could turn to face him with a smile on her muzzle. "Sorry, hun," she said and leaned up to give his chin a soft kiss. "I couldn't wait any longer."

"It's perfectly fine," he replied, returning her kiss. "But now we owe my mother a video phone call pronto or, and I quote, 'there will be hell to pay'." This caused Kitty to giggle, knowing full well that the mother wolf was serious having met her a couple times before.

"Alright," she replied, before turning back to the oven and using a spatula to get the omelet from the skillet to the paper plate. She pushed the plate into James's paws along with a fork. "But first, you're eating. Can't have you ending the conversation early on the excuse of being hungry." James burst out laughing, but took the plat to do his mate's bidding with a smile on his muzzle.
