Chapter One: Prelude

I, Shadow Darksky, sat among the bushes in a small renaissance village near a small Borgia-controlled town. Night was falling, and a slow breeze kicked around my assassin's robes. My breath came out in quick puffs, my dark fur and clothing becoming harder and harder to see in the coming night. There was no moon.

"Where's that damned Borgia patrol," I asked myself gruffly and quietly. "It's gotta be around here somewh--" I said, but was interrupted by a metal-gloved hand grabbing the scruff of my neck, hauling me up off the ground. My tail between my legs, I was turned around, and right there in my face was a large she-grizzly.

"Right behind you, mutt." She said, gripping harder into my skin, and I felt blood flow down across my skin. "Waiting to ambush us, were you?" She said with a heavy Italian accent. "Well, looks like it didn't work so well." She sneered, unknowing that my hidden blade has slid out.

With one quick move, I made a well-placed stab in her heart, falling to the ground as her grip on me disappeared. I quickly got up and shot one of the guards with my pistol. I then drew my sword and charged at the third patrolman, and swung at him. He was fast though, being a cheetah. I apparently made him piss his pants by charging at him, and he took off running. I pulled out my crossbow, took great aim, and shot a bolt at him. It hit him in his arm, but it was enough to knock him down.

Running again, I leapt upon him and put him out of his misery with a quick slice to his neck with my hidden blade. I stood up, and around me, the village had gathered. They stared at me, eyes wide and mouths gaping. I only lifted my hand in a feeble attempt at a casual hello, before taking off, jumping up on one of the nearby roofs.

I ran along it for a few seconds, and then jumped into a bale of hay on the ground. I hid there, checking to see if it was all clear, before running off to the nearby olive plantation, where I had a hideout.

Upon entering the hideout I had in a tree near the plantation, I realized just how lonely it was getting. Always having to look out for yourself was getting quite risky, not to mention the fact that after you kill three people, then return to your 'home' to sit all alone was nerve racking. But now wasn't the time for wanting a friend. The entire Borgian village saw me, so I need to find a new way into the town, which is on alert now; no doubt some villager went screaming to the Borgia town guard about me.

No matter. Although I was a young husky, at the age of just 17, I already know several ways into the Town to get at my mark. My mark was the commander of the Borgian garrison of the town. Not quite as hard as it sounds. He likes to take walks in his garden with his mistress. Or at least, one of them anyways.

I sighed, still quite lonely. After an hour or so, I decide to leave my tree trunk hideout. Dashing across the field, and over a road, I quietly and stealthily reach the wall of the town without causing so much as a disturbance in the dirt. The Borgians didn't really do much in the way of making the wall Assassin-Proof. I lept up onto a pile of crates, and jumped towards a wooden beam sticking from out of the wall, where a burned out lamp was hanging. Hauling myself up on that, I jumped and grabbed ahold of a large crack in the wall, and crawled up it, placing my feet in a crack, my hands on the top of the wall.

I haul myself up just enough to keep over the edge of the battlement, and see that there are no guards on this section. Quietly, I heave myself the rest of the way up until my boots quietly thud on the rock. Quickly, I leap to the nearest safe roof, and climb down from the house, landing in the dirt with a small puff of soil flying up. Running through the darkness, I come to the last building before the center keep.

With my back pressed to the wall, I lean over to peek around the corner.

"Yes, it is a nice night." Came a female voice. I looked around quickly, and saw a feline and a canine coming towards me in obviously Borgian clothing. It was the Borgian Garrison Commander and one of his feline mistresses. I quickly climb up the nearby ladder, and follow their slow walking along the roof. They pass right where I was, and when they walk to the edge of this building, I take in a deep breath.

"One..." I whisper to myself. "Two.... Three." I finally say, and leap from the roof, my hidden blades out, and land right on the Borgian wolf's back, digging a blade into his back.

"AAARHGGGH!" The wolf screamed and fell under my weight, obviously dead. The mistress cat screamed and ran. "That was a bit loud.." I tell myself, and haul-ass out of there. I run straight for the gate, with the guard now active. They begin closing the gate, but I keep running.

It gets almost completely closed, but in an act of stupidity but genius, I slide under it, just as it clangs shut just barely nicking my hood. I laugh to myself, until a bullet lands next to me. Startled to my senses, I quickly get up, and run as far from the town as I can.

I get back to my hideout tree, after losing the guards. But something isn't right. Not right at all.

There were eyes staring at me from inside.
