The Origin of Shadow

Chapter 11

(The Final Confrontation)

Atrun glared at me as I held the sharp tip of the Harbinger's blade against his throat, ready to kill him at any moment. Shadow-Heart stood back trying not to interfere, he knew this fight was between me and Atrun.

Atrun: "I really hope you're not being serious, no one is dumb enough to take on a Beelzeboss"

If a Demon managed to reach the rank of Beelzeboss then that meant it was the strongest Demon in hell. It looked like I was about to see if that was true.

Shadow: "You bet I'm serious, because of you I've lost everything. I lost my father, my brother and I even lost my life. Now I'm forced to live as one of your kind until the day I die. For that alone I will slit your throat and watch you bleed"

Atrun started to growl as he looked deep into my eyes. I stared back and saw nothing but hate and a lust to destroy everything dwelling deep inside him. He clenched his paw and then looked at Shadow-Heart behind me.

Atrun: "And you........you're a back-stabbing traitor as usual. Just like before"

Shadow-Heart: "I do what I love, it just so happens that I'm good at decieving the stupid"

'Before? Traitor? What does he mean before?'

I thought to myself as I kept focusing on Atrun.

Atrun: "*Sigh* I hate Demons sometimes........Never the less, in a way this is good. I really didn't want you as a soldier Shadow, I could see the purity of your soul and I knew you'd disobey me. What I really wanted was the power that your soul now contains as a Demon. With it I could destroy the kingdom of heaven and the mortal realm that lays inbetween"

Shadow: "What are you talking about?"

Atrun: "You're an Immortal, Shadow. They're very rare amoungst Demons and even less common amoungst Angels. When an Immortal kills a supernatural creature such as an Angel or Demon, it also gains their strength, making the Immortal stronger"

Shadow: "What does that have to do with you absorbing my soul?.........wait.......THAT MEANS.....!!!!"

Atrun: "It means you're not the only Immortal around here. Let me show you the true strength of an Immortal"

In less then a micro-second, Atrun managed to kick me into the wall. His attack was powerful as it made me feel a bit weak and I dropped the Harbinger. I then saw Atrun race towards me for another punch, I managed to roll out of the way and try to trip him over with a sweep-kick, but he dodge it by doing a back flip and just kicked me in the face. I laid on the floor panting heavily as Atrun walked closer to me whilst laughing. He was stronger than I thought, I started to think that I had bitten off a bit more then I could chew.

Atrun: "Do you see now why you can't win. I'm faster and much stronger than you Shadow. An Immortal isn't a specific creature, it's more like a genetic abnormality, There are only 20 Immortals in existance at any one time and I am lucky enough to be granted this gift"

With much strain and alot of pain I managed to sit up whilst looking at Atrun.

Shadow: "Why........why go through all this trouble? You set up all of those events that led to this moment, all for the power of one weaker than you. Just tell me why?"

I already knew the answer to this question, but I had to stall for time so I could recover from the short attack that Atrun did. This was about an instinct that all creatures had. A lust for power. But when it came to Demons, this primal urge was increased tenfold. Sometimes it's enough to drive the Demon insane, like it's done with Atrun.

Atrun: "I did this because I want to watch Heaven burn. I want to see the rival Demon clans run in fear and most of all, I want to see those pathetic mortals scared shitless as I kill, rape, slaughter and eat them alive"

Shadow: "Only you're not strong enough. So you plan on absorbing the soul of another Immortal to become stronger. Right?"

Atrun: "Yeah, pretty much. With the added strength of your soul, I'll become the strongest creature in existance. Even stronger than a Devil or a God. No one will be able to stop me"

Shadow: "In that case I need to stop you now!"

I fired a blast of hell fire at Atrun, I must have caught him by surprise as it struck him in the gut and burnt a hole deep into his stomach. He grunted in pain and coughed up blood before falling to one knee. I leapt up onto my feet and ran at him quickly, I acted with too much haste. I didn't think. Looking back on it now, it was obviously a trick. As I ran towards him, I used my telekenetic ability that all Demons have to bring the Harbinger to me. Once it was in my paw I tried to bring it down on Atrun's skull, but whilst he was on his knee he was charging up his energy until he finally released it in a devistating attack. It completely destroyed the top floor of Hell's Palace and almost blew me off the edge. I felt incredible weak and I couldn't stay concious. I kept blacking out for a few seconds before waking up. I saw Atrun walking towards me, but he was weak and staggering, it would appear that the attack had taken alot of energy out of him. But he was still stronger than me as he grabbed my throat and lifted me into the air. I grunted and struggled to breathe as I kept thinking of a way out. He pulled a dagger out of his belt as the blade seemed to be made out of black smoke. It must have been another Demonic Relic.

Atrun: "Too bad Shadow, your time has run out. It's been fun, but this party had to end sometime"

He tried to slit my throat, but I kicked him in the crotch as the blade missed my throat and cut through my left eye. I fell to the floor as Atrun collapsed to his knees, we were both in pain whilst my blood turned my pure white fur a dark and horrible red. The wound slowly healed, but a very visible scar was left across my eye.

Atrun: "F-FUCK!!!!...........MOTHERFUCKING DIRTY FIGHTER!!!!!"

As I laid on my back I just couldn't find the strength anymore to fight..........I used all my strength in that kick and now I was helpless. The Beelzeboss finally got his head together and walked over to me, slamming his foot down on my chest, it felt so painful like he was trying to break my ribs.

Atrun: "Pathetic fool, you believe you can win........Give up you worthless mutt. It'll be much easier for you"

Shadow: "NEVER! Just like my father, Lucien, I will never give up until my last breath"

Atrun suddenly looked surprised before giving me a devilish grin.

Atrun: "You still believe that fool was your father? No.......of course you know he isn't your real father. But you've always wanted to know haven't you?"

What was he upto? Demons were good at mind games, using certain feelings and emotions to corrupt and demoralize their prey. Making them want death before granting them such a painful gift. I knew listening to this wasn't good, but I had always wondered about my true parents so I foolishly allowed him to talk.

Atrun: "As you've probably gathered, one of your parents was a Demon, your father to be exact and your mother was just some unlucky slut that was dragged down to hell to be part of a special breeding session. We bred the strongest Demon in hell with the most fertile slut we could find. And what fell out of her cunt was you. Only she managed to escape and for 6 years she hid from us, until one day you were found. But the Canid Empire was too strong for us to simply walk in and take you, Lucien's priests had anti-demonic measures around the Castle, he was always the superstitious kind. But you're finally here again, you're finally ........home"

So this was the truth. I was the product of selective breeding by a Demon and a mortal. It explained so much and yet left alot of questions. But they would have to wait as I once again felt Atrun's foot pushing down on my chest. But there was just one question that I had to be sure of. If my mother was bred with the strongest demon in hell, that could mean only one thing.

Shadow: "AAHHHH......RGH........B-but tell me.......h-how do you know all of this?"

I knew what he was going to say, but I had to be sure. It was now or never.

Atrun: "Because, you worthless piece of shit, I'm your father!"

So it was true, I was somewhat shocked, but at the same time this meant that I was the spawn of the strongest Demon in hell, plus my soul was fused with the souls of the 2 strongest Demons in history. That's when it hit me, I still had untapped power. So far I had only been accessing my own physical and soul strength. I hadn't even tapped into the strength of the fire Demon's or Shadow-Heart's soul. But I didn't know if I had enough time before Atrun tore me apart. I had to focus, but it was incredibly difficult with this horrific wolven Demon trying to break my body in half like a dry twig.

Atrun: "Are you still trying to find a way to beat me? You can't, face it....you've lost. Nothing will stop me from absorbing your strength and then I will lay waste to what's left of your pathetic father's legacy. Then once I'm through with the ruins that is your Empire.......I'll find that little slut of yours and make sure I give him Hell's first class torture"

Shadow: "N-NO!! Leave Resdayn out of this"

I felt my anger building up inside me, but it still wasn't enough as I grabbed his foot and tried to lift it off me, I didn't even feel the pain anymore, all I could focus on was defeating Atrun. But it was a useless attempt, Aturn was right, I had lost as Atrun started laughing to mock me in this moment of humiliation.

Atrun: "I can feel your bones breaking, this is so much fun"

Shadow: "H-how could you treat your own son like this?"

Atrun: "Don't try that crap with me, you're just meant to be a vessel to carry the power of the 2 most powerful Demons. Nothing more, now I'll take that power and destroy everything!!!"

Shadow-Heart: "That's a nice plan, but I have a better one"

Atrun: "Huh?"

Atrun turned to face the Demon that we both had forgotten about as he fired a small blast of Shadow Energy at Atrun's eyes, blinding him and making him scream in pain before he finally stepped off me. The powerful Demon started stumbling around whilst covering his eyes. Shadow-Heart then helped me too my feet as I just realized he had given me the key to winning this fight.

Shadow: "I thought you weren't going to....."

Shadow-Heart: "Hurry and finish this, that dark web over his eyes wont last for long!!"

I nodded and summonded the Harbinger as I held it firmly in my paws. I then ran at Atrun and sliced clean through his neck, decapitating him. His lifeless body froze for a moment before his skin started to turn into ash and fall off, the rest off his body followed the same path not shortly after whilst he fell to his knees and burst into ash, he was no more and I had won this fight. I collapsed on the floor in exhaustion and sighed before heavily patning. But it wasn't over yet as streams of dark red lights came from the last spot Atrun stood in. It was his soul and it shot straight into my body as I yelled in pain. Instead of him absorbing my soul, it appeared I was absorbing his soul. I gained all his strength, powers and even his rank as Beelzeboss. But then there was a burning sensation on the back of my left paw as a strange brand suddenly appeared. I had no idea what it was, but I soon found out. It was the mark of a Royal Demon, the symbol of my blood-father. As the brand healed into a scar and I finished absorbing his soul, Shadow-Heart came over to me and helped me onto my feet. I felt light headed and weak as I had to lean on him just to stay up.

Shadow-Heart: "So you got the brand afterall, congradulations"

Shadow: "Is that good?"

Shadow-Heart: "This brand not only proves your royal Demon blood, but it contains and locks your most powerful energy attacks. With a mark like that you could summon a never-ending meteor storm that would destroy the entire planet in a matter of hours. Or you could just simply click your fingers if you don't wanna wait"

Shadow: "Is that so?"

I stared at the mark trying to get use to the fact that I was now literally branded as a Demon. Then I noticed Shadow-Heart's symbol on his chest. Did this mean he was just as powerful?

Shadow: "What about your brand?"

Shadow-Heart: "Mine isn't a brand, it's a mark of a traitor or a Renegade Demon as we call them. They're pure blooded Demons born in hell that refuse to give into their Demonic nature and start killing other Demons"

Shadow: "So how did you end up with that mark?"

He went silent for a few seconds before saying something completely different.

Shadow-Heart: "So what now? Are you going to go back to Resdayn?"

Shadow: "No.......I can't face him now. But I will watch over him, just to make sure he's safe"

And that's what I did, for the next 40 years I watched him from a distance to make sure that no Demons even took foot near him. It tore me in half though, for the first 20 years he was so depressed that I never came back, always crying himself to sleep and isolating himself from everyone, Aerix did the best he could to keep him safe and sane, but I could tell it was no easy task. After those dark 20 years he finally met someone that made him feel much better. They got married and lived together until they both passed away from age. It was painful seeing the one I loved pass away like that. But luckily Shadow-Heart was there to keep ME sane. He wasn't too bad for a Demon, but still, I knew this wasn't the end of my story, far from it. There were still questions un-answered and task yet to finish. Why did I have to be the one to carry these 2 souls? Who was my mother? Could she still be alive? Is there a way to get rid of my Demonic powers? And that's just a few. Atrun's terrible war using the Dragons was over........but my journey had only just begun.

The End.....?
