Why is it that most humans have a tendency to fight to survive no matter how hopeless a situation may seem? Even with a world seemingly against them they will fight down to the last breath. This fact was unknown to the inhabitants of Na'rill as they didn't know what a real human was, other than through legends. Stories passed down through the ages of strange creatures, neither fur nor scale that occasionally appear, all with the same rough shape and appearance but nearly always in different locations. The descriptions of clothing and manner change, for example, one description of a man clad in cloth and brown leather carrying a rectangular shield engraved with some kind of bird. Another is a man wearing clothing made of iron, carrying a wooden stick that struck down those in front of him with thunder. Some of the descriptions sound preposterous so it is unknown if they are real, but the strange bit is that different cultures have all got similar matching legends. Although that will soon change, an event will soon take place that will change the fate of a continent and possibly the world. On a small hill a figure cloaked by the overhanging the tree line watches the scene in front of him in awe and trepidation. Two armies face each other over a wide plain, a tide of black, grey, silver and white on one side and lines filled with green, black, blue and red the other. The air in both camps is full of energy as various enchantments are cast on the troops and spells are charged. Small bolts of coloured light can be seen dancing in the air as the use of all the magic energises the atmosphere. Neither side has faced off on such a grand scale. Both sides preparing their troops for a decisive battle. In these two armies there are many varying units one side had great 40ft dire wolves the other fielded monstrous dragons, both armies used foot troops varying in size and equipment. They each employed different choices of weapons and tactics, but a highly needed unit that is used by both is the mage who hurl fire and lightning and heal wounded allies. The problem with enchanting is that it releases a tremendous amount of magic into the equipment and people, this charge dissipates into the air as time progresses which is why the enchantments need to be re-cast. Because of the scale of the battle soon to take place, the air is being filled with the magical leakage which will be the folly of this engagement. As the lone figure watches he can feel the energy in the air making his hackles rise, 'something's not right or something is going to happen', but with a shake of his head he pushes that feeling aside putting it down to nerves and refocuses on the scene in front of him. The noise of a horn is heard over the plain and at the sign the two forces surge forward, slowly at first gaining speed as they go smashing into each other as they meet in the middle. The clashing of the two armies combines the magical build-up from the enchantments cast early on, so when the mages enter the battle it's like adding more fuel to a blazing frying pan and waiting for the poor fool to throw water on it. As the figure observes the fighting he wouldn't have known to look for a random mage near the middle of the battle, if he had he would have seen this small person charge an energy orb in his hands, only to have it impacted by another. This small event causes a massive reaction as it ignites the magical build up in the area. The mage and all within a 10 meter radius of him are instantly vaporised by the magical implosion. This quickly changes direction and turns into an explosion as a concussion wave bellows out from the epicentre, smashing into the troops as they are sent flying in all directions. Even the great beasts cannot stop the force as they are pushed along with the wave as if a barrier were driving them away. Various mages that see the wave front coming at them from the battlefield try to put up magical barriers, but because of the nature of the explosion it rips though them as if they are not there. Suddenly the wave stops leaving only the displaced air to continue traveling. After the wind dies down an eerie quiet falls only punctuated by the fine rain of dust and mud. Over the plain those still conscious regain their footing and look to the centre of the explosion. 4 hours earlier Earth A black land rover drives down a forest road, its single occupant, who is currently unaware of the future that is before him is having a garbled conversation with his friend waiting for him by the hunting cabin "Im on my way, im going to be there!(Friend hears Im.....n......goin)" "So are you coming or not?( Charles hears so.......ou.....comeing.....ot)" "YES!, The car broke down on the way here and I had to get it fixed at....(Friend ......car....oke.....down......and...get.....fixed)" "what?" " THE!... CAR!..... BROKE!...... DOWN!..." Suddenly the phone starts to beep, showing a no signal sign, "damn, I hope they don't start without me I've been waiting for this hunt all year I don't want to miss a chance to use my new bow" he grumbles, throwing the phone on the seat beside him. He put his foot down a bit more only for the engine to start coughing "Oh come on! Not now were nearly there", as if this statement was a good excuse the car loses power and Charles directs it to the road side and slumps back in the seat "Damn it" After testing the ignition a few times he sighs and rests his head on the steering wheel 'why does this have to happen now of all days just a few more miles and you could have stopped within range of the guys but no', With a big huff he unbuckles and get out to check the engine. After a lengthy inspection and unable to find any problems he climbs back in the driver's seat grabs a rag to clean his hands, with the door open, he leans back looking at his phone which is still showing no signal. 'Well I've got two choices sit and wait for a passer-by to get help or get walking' Pulling out a map he tries to work out where he is 'At best I'm 15 miles from the cabin, worst 20, but even then I would have to walk the forest road to get there' Leaning forward he looks out the window at the sky which is starting to turn a tinge of orange 'Well either way I am waiting here for tonight' A shiver runs up his spine "looks like it's going to get cold" he grumbles to himself. Getting out of the car to retrieve a blanket from the camping supplies, the hairs on his body start to stand up and he can feel the energy in the air, looking round he can see small flashes in the sky "This can't be good I hope it's not dry lightning or something" leaving the blanket Charles hops back in the car and closes the door, remembering a school science lesson about lightening going around the body of cars because they act like a faraday cage. Looking out of the window he can see lightning but is confused as instead of coming down from the sky in the typical white flash, its like small multi coloured bolts about 3-10 cm long sparking randomly in the air, just beyond the glass. Gradually the sparks increased in number shattering through the air creating an hypnotic effect, unable to tear his gaze away he became enthralled by the show. Suddenly piercing flashes filled the car, as if the air around him had ignited the brightness blinding him even as he covered his eyes Charles felt a severe case of vertigo that seem to last forever making him want to be sick then suddenly it was over. The car seemed to roll then impacted the ground causing his brain to rattle for a moment, but it wasn't like he could see anything anyway as the light had temporally blinded him. As he regained his faculty's it was just in time for the dust cloud around the car to start settling down so he could see, but what was around him caused his brain to go back to being rattled, in a rough circle about 40 meters wide were bodies of what looked like animals on one side and big lizards on the other. He was in a wide grassy plain but the area around him looked like a bomb had gone off, the ground was scorched for the first 10 or so meters after that it was all pushed back causing a wide but very shallow crater about a foot deep. As his gaze returns to the animals in front he realized that some of them were moving and waking up, but what he didn't expect was the animals to stand up on two legs this allowed him to get a better look at what they were. They were about 7-8 feet tall standing on digi-grade legs covered in white, grey, silver or black fur with a matching tail and the heads of wolves, they were clad in leather armor weilding a variety of weapons, he thought he spotted a couple of foxes mixed in but he want sure in his panic. As he watched more and more of the creatures stood up and turned to look at him, out of instinct his hand moved to the ignition and tried to start the car. At the noise of the engine turning over some of the creatures jumped back but most got in to battle stances, while he was trying to start the car Charles looked behind him to see where he could go to get away as he did he realized that the lizards were also getting up. They were similar to the wolves in stature and shape but the ones with legs were plantigrade, but there were also some with the body of snakes and a more serpentine face, they had something amongst them that scared him even more as he watch a huge form of a dragon raised above the ranks of lizards. That was his breaking point his face paled considerably at this sight, flight instincts took over he wanted out of their right now , as he spun to the front he spotted a small gap between the two species lines. Suddenly the car sprang to life and he finished spinning his head forward, just in time to see that the conscious wolf creatures had covered about a fifth of the distance to his car, but were recovering from the shock of his engine roaring to life. He put the car in gear and gunned it for the gap in the lines, as he pulled away various lights flashed suddenly around him coming from all directions knocking the car around. Not knowing what was going on he just kept going very loudly praying to whomever was willing to listen asking them to let him wake up. Looking in his rear view mirror all he could see was the giant maw of a beast following him, This scene does not help much for his mental state all he could think of was to yell hoping the creature would listen to him but not really expecting a reply, "WHAT THE HELL! GO AWAY LEAVE ME ALONE!", He misses the beast giving him a surprised look in his rear view mirror. Finally bursting out of the lines after dodging many lizards and wolves that were too slow getting out of the way he guns for the tree line where a small mud path can be seen between the trees still with a giant wolf chasing him even more determined now. Breaking just enough so that he didn't lose control from the sudden shift in terrain he entered the forest leaving behind the giant wolf that had charged into the tree branches (from going into hunter vision and only focusing on the car). Being too big for the path it got whipped multiple time across the nose and face, causing it to halt its pursuit. Charles kept going only looking back once to see if he was still being followed, all he can do is repeat the same few things over and over trying to come to terms with the situation, until the frustration gets to him. "What the hell!, Where the hell!, What the hell!.... DAMN IT!". The land rover plows though the underbrush with no clue of direction, but Charles really doesn't care at this point

The tree line on the hill 5 minutes earlier

Our lone figure digs his claws into the tree to keep himself from being blown out by the blast of air released from the explosion, when the wind dies down he regains his footing and composure he leans against the tree for support , as he looks down to the battle field he can see a dark shape in the dust cloud. Glancing at the destruction caused by the explosion he can't believe anything could still be standing, after a big enough force to topple dire wolfs and dragons ,being the two of the biggest and strongest creatures it knows, and be felt from nearly a mile away. As the dust settles he is confused by what he sees, a black odd shaped box on round disks, wondering what sort of being it could be that made such a thing, as he watches the two armies start to regain some semblance of order but they all stop as the strange box starts making weird grinding noises. Suddenly the noises increase in frequency as the Wolven army starts to approach the strange box almost like it was warning them, both armies jump and ready themselves as the box artifact roars to life and turns away with surprising agility. (From his tree figure couldn't see any movement from the box that would explain how it was moving) This sudden movement causes a mage to fire a spell at the Box that he was holding ready, this causes mass confusion as others fire as well but none of the spells seem to work as they all dissipate early. Spotting the spells weren't working one of the dire wolves breaks from the lines running after it, trying to grab it in its muzzle, to the further surprise of the figure the wolf wasn't fast enough to catch it, even after leaving the restricted space of the combat lines where it was force to avoid stepping on allies for open plains, which was odd as nothing is faster than a dire wolf on land (in a straight line) that he knew of.

Smiling as he watch the strange black box lose the wolf at the forest edge the figure purrs "looks like something interesting just arrived" as he melts into the shadows of the forest, Leaving two very confused armies to organize what to do next and a dire wolf with a very sore nose.
