REBIRTH

TRISHA'S WAKING DREAM

Pt. 2 Ch. 5

Most of my thoughts were confused about how to break each of them out of their dream like states and part of me just wanted to let them work it out for themselves. Though as time progressed, their conditions didn't change and I began to worry that they might not want to awaken from their dream likes states. After pacing for a bit I stopped and took a look over them once again, and wondered what each of them was dreaming of? Trisha looked to be having a happy dream as a large smile was plastered on her muzzle, Lady Cresselia seemed to have a very diverse dream as she'd be smiling one minute then cringing the next, and Lady Suicune was smiling and seemed to be humming some kind of tune that I'd never heard of before.

Staring down at them for a few more minutes, I knew that I couldn't leave them in this kind of a state forever and began to think of how to help each to awaken from their dreams, not to mention as to whom I'd help first. Lady Cresselia was probably going to be the last as I really didn't want to butt into a dream of hers while she was still in such an emotional distraught state. Lady Suicune was probably out as well as she seemed to be enjoying her dream and as her knight she'd probably not take it too kindly to be awoken from a most pleasant dream. That left Trisha. Though how to go about waking her up?

"I suppose I could use my psychic abilities to probe into her mind and see what she's dreaming about." With a nod to that and hoping that she wasn't having a very 'Private' dream, I knelt down beside her and gently placed a hand on her forehead. 'Please forgive the intrusion Trisha,' I thought as I slowly began to probe into her mind and into the recesses of her unconsciousness. Once I found the area of her mind that seemed to contain the dream like state that she was in, I slowly closed my eyes and allowed my own consciousness to leak into hers.

Upon opening my eyes, I found myself within that of a vast forest that seemed to be in the midst of spring. Each of the trees surrounding me were all in full bloom and covered with lush greenery that just made you feel like you'd want to sit back and enjoy the sights. Though as I wanted to do just that, I had to remain focused and try and see if I could wake Trisha from this dream like state. With that thought I closed my eyes once again and focused my mind into seeking out that of Trisha. It only took me a moment to cast about for her mental wave pattern and once I'd isolated it I was surprised to find that she wasn't all that far away from where I was. Opening my eyes I turned towards where I'd felt her and began to walk off in that direction.

It was only a few minutes of walking that eventually led me to that of some kind of cave in the side of a large mound. The mound looked slightly larger than I was and covered in what appeared to be some kind of deep green/lush moss. Wondering as to why Trisha would be in such a place, I slowly knelt down and peered within, only to smile at the sight that it beheld. I could see Trisha's form within the cave as she was laying on her side and several smaller forms, which looked just like that of little white fluff balls, curled or nursing from her side. 'Well, what do you know? Trisha's dream is that of being a mother.' Seeing the sight within I couldn't help but feel a little bit of pride and happiness for her as this kind of dream would be the one that anyone would feel happy for another person.

"Trisha, might I come in?" I asked to which she turned and looked sleepily towards me. I could see that even though she looked quite exhausted, she still had a type of glow that most mothers have when they see their young for the first time.

'Genii, is that you? O...of course, come in and see the family.' She said in a happy/exhausted tone as she turned away from me and began to nuzzle one of her young.

Without warning or wondering how I'd gotten there, I was suddenly kneeling beside Trisha and looking at her and her pups. I didn't wonder how I'd gotten into here for long, as I changed my focus onto that of her pups and smiled down at them. "Would you look at that? They're all so tiny and fluffy." I said as I reached down and lightly stroked Trisha on the head. "You must be very happy here." To which she nodded and leaned into that of my rubbing a little more.

'I am happy. This is all like a dream come true.' She then turned and just as she did another Absol came into the cave. Much like that of Trisha, this Absol had all the characteristics of the typical Absol; accept that of a notch out of the tip of its horn and several out of its tail. 'And here comes the father now. Welcome home love, come and see your pups.' To which the Absol nodded and walked on over to rub muzzles together with Trisha for a moment then nose each pup in turn, as if acquainting himself with each pup if not by sight but also by smell. Though when I was about to introduce myself to the happy father, I remembered the reason I was here and decided to get on with it, no matter how much it might disturb that of Trisha.

"Um...Trisha, who is that? I don't remember you ever mentioning the fact that you once had pups." Trisha ignored my words for a time, but when I gently scratched her head for a bit to get her attention she seemed to focus a bit and look over at the other occupant in the cave.

'He is a very special male to me; a male that I once wanted to bare pups with.'

"Then why didn't you?"

She turned to look up at me and I could see that she'd lost her cheery like mood and now had a very sad one. 'Because, I lost him to my sister.' Though her words were very simple, I could tell that they had a lot of meaning behind them.

"Then tell me Trisha, tell me what happened to you before we met, and what would've happened here." It was then that the scenery changed once again, and now it seemed like we were looking at a slide show of her life.

'When I was fairly young, a mere pup in most of the packs eyes, I met him while out picking berries for the pack. He was an Alpha to be and oh how much I loved him. Often times I would sneak away from my duties and merely watch him as he went about his own. It wasn't for a while, but eventually I summoned up the nerve to talk to him and we found that we shared a lot of the same interests. Neither one of us really thought about our friendship being anything more than that, but as time went on and the seasons changed, our feeling between us began to grow. About a few years after we'd first met, he'd moved up to claim the position of Alpha and I knew that once he'd claim that position that he'd have me as his, he even went as far as to tell me just that the very morning before he became the alpha of our pack.' She paused in her tale as she sighed at an image of him facing off against a strong looking but very old Absol.

'When he'd claimed his victory, he came to me and was about to claim me as his, but that was when my sister stepped forward and challenged me to the right of being his mate. I couldn't believe that my sister would step in like that and challenge me to a fight, I mean she was my sister and all, but she did and we prepared to fight.' I turned to her as she stopped again and I could see a single tear leak down her furry face. 'I knew that he loved me and I loved him, but she was my sister and how can someone fight against one's own family.'

"You lost of the fight, didn't you?" To which she nodded and let out another solitary tear.

'She proclaimed herself the Alpha's female of the pack and since I'd lost the fight, I was banished from the pack.' Tears were now beginning to fall down her face in earnest and I leaned down to help wipe several away. 'Even when I was forced away I could still see in his eyes that he loved me and that he had no love for my sister.' The image changed once again and now if found us looking down upon Trisha as she lay beaten, broken hearted, and alone in the same cave as before. 'It wasn't that long after that that girl came into my area, tracked me down using her little pup, and captured me as I was still recovering from the wounds my sister gave me.'

It was at that moment that all the missing pieces in Trisha's past finally fit into place and how she'd come to be a part of my team. Though when I looked back down at her I could see that she'd slumped down to lay on the ground and her paws were covering over muzzle in a vain attempt to hide her stifles and tears. Feeling bad for her I knelt down and began to stroke her from her neck all the way down to her tail. "It's not your fault Trisha. I'm sure that he wanted you to be with him as much as you wanted to be with him."

'But my sister beat me in that fight, I have no right to go back and get him back. He's probably fully mated to her and has had several pups by her now.' I had to admit that it was possible to have happened, but somewhere deep down as well as the image I'd seen of him when both Trisha and her sister fought didn't have me fully convinced.

"What if you were to go back and fight against her for the right?"

'I can't go back. I'm your Pokémon now, and I have to stay with you wherever you go.'

I just lightly chuckled at that and rubbed at her head, lightly mussing the fur on top of her head. "I don't see why that's has to stop you." This had her stop in her lament and look up at me with tear soaked/confused eyes. "I bet we could find that old pack of yours and you could challenge her to a fight again. Plus, I don't see why you can't stay with him. All I have to do is release you and you can stay with him."

Trisha stared up at me for quite a while, but eventually she lowered her head and shook it. 'But he probably has pups of his own to take care of. Not to mention that I bet he's forgotten all about me by now.'

"Why don't we test that theory?" I said as I straightened a little more and looked upwards. "Unknown...I'd like to make a request, if it's within your power of course." To which I waited for a while and hoped the Unknown were listening or would give us a sign that they were contemplating the agreement to the request, but none actually came which just led me to believe that they weren't at least refusing to listen. "Could you show us, the Alpha of Trisha's old pack? I'd like to know if he still thinks of her." It only took a moment before the last image/picture of Trisha being captured in the Pokéball to disappear and be replaced by a new one, to which this one was of two separate Absol inside some unknown cave. "Is this them?" I looked down at Trisha and asked her, to which she looked up after a minute and stared on in awe at the image being shown as if like it were on a movie screen.

'It...is; it is them.' This caused her to quickly leap to her feet and stare on in awe at the image before us. 'But I don't understand. How is this possible?'

"Your guess is as good as mine, but I suspect that the Unknown's power is probably greater than one might think." Turning to face the image I raised my voice and spoke aloud my next request. "Might we listen in to the conversation between the two?" And just like that there was sound.

'But why won't you mate with me? All the other members of the pack are wondering as to why you and I have not had your pups yet.' A female voice asked to which lead me to believe that it was the voice of Trisha's sister.

The other Absol just turned his away in shame and shook its head. 'I have no reason that you will accept.' The Absol said to which confirmed that this was the male and by the reaction on Trisha's excited face told me that this was also the male that she'd fallen in love with.

'You are thinking about her again are you not? I do not see the reason behind it, I mean, I did defeat her. Surely that should tell you that she is the weaker and I the stronger and that is more than enough of a reason to say that I will bare you stronger pups than her.' Deep within me anger began to form for this female and I began to suspect the reason why the male Absol hadn't wanted to mate with her.

'I do not see the reason that we should mate is all. The pack is already big enough and we are more than able to hunt down any pray, even ones that are larger than ourselves thanks to our sheer number. An excessive amount of pups would put them in danger as we would have to spend more effort on keeping them safe and if we were to spend more of an effort to keep them safe we would have to pull our numbers from the hunting parties and...' His voice trailed off as a deep throated growl began to sound within the cave that the two were occupying.

'Every season you are like this. You refuse to mate with me even during the most pressing times of my heat. If you do not mate with me this coming season I will make sure that you will 'never' be able to mate with another female!' With that the female Absol got up to all fours and stamped a foot down to emphasize the point before turning and leaving the cave in a huff.

We watched on for several more minutes and after that Trisha raised a paw to the image and let out a solitary tear to trickle down her face. It was at that same moment that the male Absol raised his muzzle to the roof of the cave and sighed. 'Why was it not you that won the fight? I thought the love that we shared for each other was enough to let you win the duel.'

With that the image faded and once it was fully gone, Trisha raised her head and let out a long and drawn out whimper. 'He still thinks of me, he really does.' Leaning down so that I was now kneeling I placed a hand on her neck and gave it a gentle rub. 'Oh, Genii, I have been a fool. If I had known that he truly loved me I would have fought to have him as my mate. But now...' Tears leaked down her face and feeling an overbearing sense of guilt I pulled her into my chest and let her weep there against me. As the tears leaked down her face I gently rubbed her and whispered to her that things weren't all that bad.

'What do you mean that things are not all that bad? You heard my sister, she has threatened him with the worst possible thing to do to a mate, and here I am...unable to do anything to stop her.'

"It may look like that now, but the events of the future are not set in stone." I said, quoting some unknown profit or wise man. "I mean, there still is a chance to stop her from doing that to him, as well as getting the two of you together so that the dream from before can become a reality."

With tear laden eyes Trisha looked up at me and gave me a puzzled look. 'What do you mean? I am your Pokémon, and as long as I am bound to that Pokéball that you carry then I will remain yours.'

I couldn't help but smile and shake my head at her. "You silly Absol. Being caught inside a Pokéball doesn't mean it has to be forever." As if to emphasize the phrase, I pulled off her ball and showed her the bottom of it. Right at the center of the lower half of the Pokéball was a small hole in the ball and to that the word, Release, was around said hole. "All I have to do is press the tip of a pen into this hole here, and the release function is activated, effectively releasing the Pokémon that the ball has previously caught."

A fearful look crossed her face for a moment before I smiled down at her. "Once we rescue the Archeologist, we can find your pack and I can help you defeat your sister in a duel for the one you love."

Tears began to leak down Trisha's face and slowly built until sobs began to wrack her. Not being able to see someone that I cared about cry like that, I pulled her into a hug and allowed her to cry herself out, all the while telling her that her love still had feelings for her.
