#2 of Opposites Attract

A couple days passed since Jason got Kelly her new books. Since then Jason noticed a different skunkette, a difference he was not liking. She seemed to have an extra skip in her step whenever she walked down the hallway. He would catch her from time to time stealing glances over at him. Everytime Kelly saw Jason look back at her, she would quickly look the other way. Jason only shook his head at the obvious observation. Kelly liked him.

It wasn't his intention, not in the least. All he wanted to do was make ammends for what Frank did to her, not for her to think he liked her. Sitting in Chemistry, as his professor blankly rambled on about molecular properties, the young cat sighed. Kelly seemed like a nice girl but she just wasn't his type. Rolling his eyes in the thought of her idea of a date would be something along the lines of sitting at a kitchen table and playing board games.

Luckly no one found out about Jason getting her some new books. If that information leaked out into the student body, no one would let him live it down. Jason would admit, however, he was thinking about this situation a lot more than he wanted to. He tried to bring his mind to think about something else but everytime Kelly looked at him and blushed, his mind went back to her. He figured one of these times he was going to have a private chat with Kelly and simply explain that he wasn't interested in her.

Jason had his share of relationships in high school but it was nothing but petty "puppy love." He wasn't too proud of the fact that he had more than a hand full of girls on his list of who he had sex with either. All Jason really craved was a relationship that seemed legit and real. Not simply, "Hey you're kinda cute. Wanna go out?"

Lately, the idea of being in another relationship scared Jason. Granted, he liked the idea of being in a relationship with someone, to have the companionship, but with what happened to his parents made him weary. Since his birth, his parents relationship went downhill. He knew the reason why but it was still too touchy of a subject to talk about to anyone.

The bell rang, snapping his deep trance of thought. Like all the other students, Jason tried putting his things in his book bag as fast as possible so he could make it to lunch before the line got too long. The hallways congested like a highway after a car accident as he pushed his way through to the lunch line. The cat groaned, despite his best efforts, the long line spilled out into the hallways. Taking his turn in line, the cat leaned his right shoulder against the wall of lockers and waited.

For the second time his state of think was broken again, this time in the form of a finger tapping on his shoulder. Jason's ears perked suddenly and turned to see Kelly standing behind him with a smile. It was impossible to see through her black fur but the insides of her ears gave it away that she was blushing as well. Her paws resting behind her back as her body fidgited like a five year old. As soon as Jason looked into Kelly's eyes, her head quickly looked away as her blush reddened.

"Hey Jason..." She said, barely in an audible tone.

Jason lightly nodded, "What's up Kelly?" His mind trying to figure out what she wanted.

"Well...I....uh...." Her paws moved back to resting in front of her body. Her right paw grabbing onto her left forearm. "I never got the chance to thank you."

Quickly going on the defensive, "Don't worry about it. It was like I said. You didn't deserved to have rotting orange all over your books."

Kelly quietly nodded and looked away, still blushing. "Right...."

The line was moving, but no where near fast enough for Jason. A little time passed, it was an awkward silence despite the area around them was filled noise and yelling. Jason turned back around silently praying to get his food as soon as possible. What seemed like an eternity to Kelly, the skunkette lifted up her head. As if a decision was made. She went to speak to Jason again but suddenly something threw a wrench into her plan.

That wrench was in the form of a vixen. Beautiful, volumcious, but a little ditzy and air-headed. "Hey sweety!" She said as she wrapped her arms around Jason's neck, which caused a more saddened look on Kelly's face. Jason turned his head and saw Kristina hanging off of his neck. "Hey Kris..." Jason said with a less than enthusiastic voice. The vixen playfully swatted Jason's shoulder, "My my someone is a little grouchy." Kristina turned her head and looked at Kelly who once again turned her head pretending to look off at something.

The vixen turned back to Jason, leaned in and whispered something into his ear. Kelly heard a growl come from Jason as he wrestled from the vixen's grip.

"That's not funny, Kristina."

The vixen stepped back a little, a look of confused shock on her face. Kelly wondered what the vixen said. Seeing Jason's body language, Kelly could tell he wasn't happy.

"You're joking right?" The vixen asked.

In a very annoyed tone the feline snapped back. "Do I look like I'm joking?"

Kristina looked back at Kelly then at Jason. She held her paw up to Jason and with a scoof she walked away and into the cafeteria.

Kelly was even more confused wondering why the vixen looked back at her. She felt it was a safe assumtion what she whispered into Jason's ear was about her. Wanting to ask but not wanting to make Jason any more annoyed, Kelly decided no to talk to Jason anymore.

Eventually Jason got his tray of food and wandered into the eating area. Again looking for his usual table, the feline made his way towards his teammates. He looked around the table as he approached to see that the boys stopped eating and looking up at him with a confused looks. Soon snickers filled their faces. Jason quickly went on the defensive as he sat down in his chair. "What? What the fuck are you all looking at?"

Sean sat back in his chair, "Frank was right. She is your girlfriend isn't she?"

It was now Jason's turn to give the confused look, "Who are you guys talking about?"

"Frank told us about ISS Wednesday," Kyle said with a chuckle, "and now Kristina is starting to say the same thing."

Jason rolled his eyes, "What are they saying?"

The whole table bursted out laughing, "Are you kidding me?! Of all the girls in the school you picked Kelly Clark?!" John blurted out loudly so the surrounding table could hear.

Jason pounded his'fist on the table, "She's not my fuckin' girlfriend assholes."

By now the commotion was being heard throughout the cafeteria as more and more eyes looked over at Jason's table. Including Kelly.

Sean gave Jason a wide grin, "Oh then tell us, Jay. Why suddenly is Frank and Kristina ironically starting the same rumor?"

Growling a little, Jason sat back in his chair, "All I did was give her a new chemistry book."

The guys laughed again the John perked up again, "Dude, why? Why did you get her a new book?"

Jason knew he wasn't going to get out of this one alive. He saw some of the other students looking over at the table now. "It's like I told Frank on Tuesday in ISS. We're a goddamned football team. We don't go around torturing other students in this school and what Frank did was too far. Monday, was one thing but that should have been over and done with. Not to keep on torturing someone like what Frank did. So all I did was get her a new damn book. So get off me!"

The table quiet down a little before Sean chuckled a little, "Fine. We'll 'get off' you." He said making little quotes with his paws, looking around the table. "'Cause it's Kelly's job to 'get on' him now." The guys stared at Sean after he made his comment as Sean laughed. A couple shook their head but then laughed again as Jason stormed out of the lunchroom with the table still laughing behind him. He was angry and embarrassed but still he didn't regret what he did. He knew it was the right thing to do deep down inside. He decided to finish off the rest of his lunch period roaming the halls until it was time for his next class.

Kelly watched as Jason stormed off, as much as she wanted to run after him to talk she felt it would be best to stay put. Kelly began to get glances and chuckles from the guys from Jason's table along with others. The skunkette tried her best not to pay attention but soon she felt the need to leave. Standing up as soon as her lunch was done, Kelly left the cafeteria, hearing the guys yelling some things to Kelly as she left but didn't bother to pay atention.

Kelly decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to head to the library since she knew she wouldn't run into any hassles there. Kelly quietly walked through the hallways when suddenly she felt a paw on her shoulder. Startled a little, Kelly turned around to see a stern looking Kristina. Kelly swallowed a little hard as the vixen leered at her. "I need to have a little 'chat' with you."

Jason went from class to class thinking about Kelly. He had to admit the more and more he thought about it he couldn't help but think, "What if?" He has been with many, many different different girls. However, in the end they ended up being the same. It wasn't for the fact that they really liked him. It was so they can make the other girls jealous that they were going out with him. The feline sighed in an inner war with himself. He couldn't help but admit that he like going out with all the hottest girls in the school but at the same time he just wished for once ANY of those girls would show that they actually loved him. He had yet to really date anyone this school year. He was tired of it. He wanted to be with someone who loved him just as much as he would love them.

For the first time however he thought, What if Kelly might be that one person. It was obvious she liked him. He thought back on his own actions today. "Maybe I do like her..." He said quietly to himself. He normally wouldn't go out of his way like he did today to make her happy. He sighed, unsure with himself. "I don't know..." He muttered randomly as he waited for the final bell to ring.

Kelly was always to herself. Rarely talked to anyone, no one really knew who she was. She was like a puzzle that no one could or wanted to solve. For all he knew, she may have had a crush on him for a long time and the past few days may have finally made her feelings come forth. He continued to think, he knew if he was to try to go out with her, it was going to be the laughing stock of the school. However, he was sure of himself that he wasn't going to be in another fake relationship. Kelly seemed legit, and he liked that about her. He could deal with the football team, they're always making fun of who's going out with who. What would the rest of the school think of him?

The bell rang and the students made their way to their lockers to get ready to go home. Jason made his way through the crowd and stepped on his bus. He walked down the narrow isle until he sat in his normal seat at the very back row of the bus. The kids began to file in as the noise in the bus began to pick up with chatter. Suddenly Kristina walked up the bus stairs. He noticed she looked right at him as she walked on, she had a sly grin on her face and that told Jason something was going on. She made her way to the adjacent seat in the back row and smiled at him. "Hey Jay."

The feline nodded, "What do you want Kris?"

It was like she was hoping he would ask. She ran her paw through her hair, pulling it out of the way of her hazel eyes. "Oh nothing much. I have a question to ask you hun."

Jason ears pointed back a little already knowing where she was going, "What?"

Suddenly Kristina scooted herself onto his seat and sat next to him. "It's about that Kelly Clark girl."

His stomach seemed to knot up again, "What about her?"

The young vixen showed a toothy grin, "Well I overheard you might have a new girlfriend."

Jason quickly shook his head denying, "I don't have one though."

The vixen gave him a fake surprised look, "Oh that's not what I heard, and from what you said to me and what you did earlier. I have a good reason to think you do."

Jason became worried, "Why, what did you hear?"

The vixen paused for a moment as more of the kids filled in the bus. One of her friends took Kristina's seat so it looked like she was going to be riding with him today. She wrapped an arm around Jason's neck, "I heard you got little skunkette a new book for class since hers got ruined."

Jason nodded, "Yeah so what about it? I'll tell you the same I told everyone else. What Frank did Tuesday was going way over the line. He didn't have to do that, I don't tolerate my team mates messing with other people like that. So all I did was get her a new book. Nothing else to it."

The vixen only grinned wider, "Oh but I think there is Jay." She took her arm off of him and looked out the window behind him as the bus started to leave the school. "You know I've always liked you Jay. How come we never went out?"

Jason almost laughed at her comment, "You didn't like me until the ninth grade when I convinced my aunt to put you on the cheerleading team."

Kristina shrugged off his response, "Well it was a very nice gesture Jason. If you ask me, that normally would mean your like someone. People don't normally go out of their way like that for nothing."

Her comment reminded Jason about his own actions. She had a point. He was getting on the defensive a lot about Kelly lately. He kept reminding himself it was because of Frank. If it was anyone else not associated on the football team none of this ever would have happened. It just simply would have been something funny that happened in the cafeteria. However, it was one of his team mates who was involved and after what Principal Harmen said, he did feel responable. That's why he did it, it wasn't because he liked her. Jason just couldn't understand why no one else would look at it that way.

She placed her paw on his stomach and patted it, pulling Jason out of his train of thought. "Not to mention, being on the football team gave you a pretty sexy body."

He quickly grabbed her paw and clinched it a little hard.

"So you do like Kelly?" After a slight pause from the vixen.

Jason didn't answer.

The vixen growled again not hearing him answer, "Well I don't think she likes you anyways."

The young black feline looked at her, "You seem to be making a big deal out of this then if you think she doesn't like me."

The vixen shook her head, "I call it woman's intuition. I don't think she'll be bothering you anymore."

Jason quickly picked up on her inuendo.Turning his head and glared at Kristina. His fists clinched in anger, "What did you say?"

The vixen only crossed her arms and stared down Jason with a sly grin.
