"What!? Are you crazy!? There is no way they would believe us!" Ty'gra said to me, quietly yelling.

"Why not?" I ask in the same loud whisper.

"Because dragons haven't existed for hundreds if not THOUSANDS of years! Do you honestly believe the guards will trust a dog telling them a dragon is going to attack their city?"

"That's not the real reason is it?" He pauses.

"Okay fine. If there really is a dragon, I don't want to warn the people who IMPRISONED us! I just want to sneak out of here and be safe, dragon or no dragon."

I was torn. I know it's the right thing to do, but Ty'gra has a point. Deep down, I can feel fighting within myself. A war between what's right and what's best for me. Then, I think of all the people in this town; the men, women, and children that live here. Their lives cut short by something I could have prevented. My mind flicks back to the little girl I saved from the troll and how I would feel if she were here. That made up my mind. I leave the cover of the bushes and walk into the marching solders' path.

"Hold on, wait! I have something important to tell you!" I hold up my paws in a defensive gesture.

"It's one of the prisoners! Arrest him!" one of the guards orders and two of the others grab my arms.

"Wait! You have to listen to me! You're all in danger!" I hear something fly through the air and two dull thuds follow. The solders holding my arms fall to the ground. Ty'gra jumps out of the bushes and retrieves his daggers from the fallen solders' chests.

"What were you thinking!? I told you they wouldn't listen! Don't play the hero!" He holds his daggers blades down in a defensive position. "You could have at least used your sword."

"Kill them both!" The guards rush toward us and I, reluctantly, draw my sword. There's a flurry of motion as the fight begins. There are 12 guards, each wielding swords, maces, axes, and/or shields. I, having no weapon experience, swing my sword clumsily. I end up deflecting some blows, but still get cut in many places. Ty'gra, however, is a fighting machine! Every swing of his daggers meets either metal or skin. I'm pushed on the defensive, using my sword to block attacks. My steel armor protects me from the blunt of the attacks, but will still leave bruises. By now, our fight has attracted attention. A group has gathered, some watching, others calling for help. To my dismay, some even join the fight, drawing weapons of their own. Even Ty'gra is starting to take damage. My sword is eventually knocked out of my hand, leaving me defenseless. The solders and villagers surround me.

_ It ends here?!_ I think, No! It can't end here! I glance at Ty'gra. I gasp in horror as a sword grazes his neck, drawing lots of blood fairly quickly. We haven't known each other for long, but I still consider him my friend. The first friend I've made since waking up, and now I'm about to lose him. I'm about to lose everything. The guard that cut him goes in for the killing blow. I can't let that happen.

In a split second, I'm in front of him and I bury my fist into the side of the solder's face. He flies through the air for a few feet and falls to the ground, still.

"Whoa..." Ty'gra says, "Nice hit."

"Guess I don't know my own strength. Or speed." I look at the crowd, and am shocked at what I see. They're all cowering. In complete fear of me. I see my reflection in a puddle on my left and see why. In my rush, my wings sprung out with such force that it tore straight through the steel armor. My fur has gotten ruffled and is standing on end. My ears laid flat and a fierce snarl on my face. My whole body is covered in scratches and cuts. I need to say something. I clench my fist in front of me.

"Mess with my friends, the next you'll see is my paw!"

No one moves. Everything is silent.

A roar is heard in the distance.
