A while ago Lorena held a contest to create a boyfriend character for her fursona. This was to be established with a short story showing the two interacting. I chose to go with a first date scenario to introduce them. The character I came up with is Lawrence Black. A gentlemanly otter who's going to show Lorena a good time on their first date. I did not win the contest and as such I got to keep Lawrence for myself. Not sure what to use him for though yet. Anyway I hope you enjoy the story. Tell me what you think. I love comments.

Lorena belongs to Lorena

Lawrence belongs to me.

The car drove slowly down the quiet neighborhood street. The driver looked to each house, searching for the address numbers to find the one he was looking for. He spotted the house and pulled over a little clumsily. The male otter turned off the engine and sighed to himself softly, gearing himself up. He was a bit nervous. He got out of the car, he wearing a simple aerated shirt and shorts. A shiny black pendant hung from a string around his neck and glinted in the sunlight, contrasting with the golden brown of his fur, and his short dark brown hair. He took another deep breath and began walking toward the house.

He rang the doorbell and stood back, his hands behind his back. When the door opened, there stood a beautiful female feline. She was wearing green pants, a tank top with a half jacket over it, and a black collar. Her hair was long and brown with a yellow streak on the left side. She wore arm warmers on her arms, and glasses adorned her face, completing the look and giving her a knowledgeable, yet sexy appeal. "I was wondering when you'd get here." she said as she saw the otter. "Sorry I'm a little late. Had a little trouble spotting your place." he said, rubbing the back of his head embarrassed with one hand as he brought the other forward, showing her a small bouquet of flowers. The cougar gasped as the handful of flowers came into her view. "These are for you." he said as she took them. She smiled at him warmly, closing her eyes behind her glasses as she took a sniff of the pretty bouquet. "Well this was nice of you Lawrence. Thank you." she said. "It was nothing. I thought you might like them." he said taking a daisy from the bunch and placing it in her hair. "You look beautiful Lorena." he said seriously. "Thank you." she blushed lightly. I'm going to put these in some water. I'll be right back." she said, turning to go back into the house. Lawrence stood back, happy that the date was going smoothly so far. When Lorena returned she didn't see that the rug just inside of the door was raised, and she tripped over it as she went over it. "Okay. I'm Baaaack..." she said as she tumbled, only to be stopped in midair. She opened her eyes to see that the otter had caught her mid-fall. "Are you okay?" he asked seriously. She nodded, blushing a little, embarrassed at the accident. "Good. So are you ready to go?" he asked, helping her back up. "Yes. Let's go." she said locking the door behind her.

"So what do you do for a living?" she asked curiously as they drove through the streets. "I'm an underwater welder." he answered, motioning to the backseat, on which his equipment lay. "Oh really? And how long have you been doing that?" she asked next. "Going on three years now. I work down at the shipyard." he said. "Three years? That's cool. Do you like it?" she asked. "Like it? I love it. Getting to work in and around water is a pleasure in and of itself, but I like the welding, knowing that what I'm doing is saving lives and making things safe for sailors in the long run. I went to a trade school and got my general education classes done before focusing on my welding." he explained. "How old are you?" she asked next. "I'm 24. Birthday is March 9th." he said proudly. "Oh a Pisces huh?" she said amused. "Yep. What about you?" he asked curiously. "I'm a Scorpio. Birthday's November 16th." she replied. "Scorpio? I'm gonna have to watch you then." he said smiling. "Oh you'd better believe it." she laughed. "What do you do?" he asked, reciprocating the questions. "I'm a graphic artist. I take pleasure in bringing mine, and others ideas to life for all to see." she answered. "Cool." he replied as the car began to slow down, they nearing their destination.

"Well we're here." he said as he pulled the car into its stall. Lorena looked around the crowded pier. He had taken them to the beach, there was a boardwalk with restaurants and games as well. "This is going to be a fun day." she thought as she smiled, looking at the otter, his short straight hair flapping in the ocean breeze. "Are you ready?" he asked, almost excitedly. "Yes." she replied, closing the car door and walking with him toward the midway.

It was mid-afternoon, and the hot sun beat down harshly on the boardwalk. But this was all but cancelled out by the constant sea breeze blowing through, cooling everyone off and spreading a light mist of water in the air. The pair had fun at a few booths, they had caricatures of themselves drawn on the beach, and played a few games. They started to play the squirt gun race, but both were disqualified when Lorena turned her squirt gun on Lawrence, who retaliated in kind, resulting in an impromptu water fight, soaking the other players and earning them angry looks from the person running the game. They apologized and went on their way. The fun continued when Lawrence won Lorena a teddy bear at the "Guess your Height/Weight" game. Being an average size otter made it difficult for the man to guess correctly. "How much do you weigh anyway?" she asked curiously as they went on their way. "I am 170lbs, 5'5"." he replied. "I didn't ask for your height." she said with a smile. "I know. But I figured that might be the next question." he replied smirking at her. Lorena chuckled to herself as they continued on.

"Are you having fun?" he asked, looking at Lorena, who was hugging her teddy bear softly. "Of course. You're a fun person to be around." she replied truthfully. "Thanks. You're fun to hang out with too. Wanna get something to eat?" he asked. The feline's stomach rumbled a little, loud enough for Lawrence to hear. "I see. What would you like to eat?" he asked curiously. "How about pizza? No pasta. No sushi. I don't know. You pick." she said. At that moment, her stomach rumbled a bit louder now, announcing her hunger to the people walking the closest to them. Lawrence laughed as she hid her face behind the bear. "Come on. I know this place up ahead that makes specialty pizza." he said, leading her onward.

"I've gotta hand it to you Lawrence. I've never seen anything like this." said Lorena, looking at the pizza before them with the sushi topping. "I told you they make specialty pizza's here." he said taking a slice. "So what do for fun Lawrence?" she asked a few minutes later as they both enjoyed their meal. "Well I like swimming, diving, pretty much anything to do with water. I also like movies. Action and comedies are my favorites." he said. "That's cool. That's a really pretty Necklace." she said, noticing his black pendant. It was smooth shiny rock, and shaped like a clam shell. "You like it? I made it myself." he said, taking it off so that she could get a better look. "You made this?" she asked, impressed. "I dabble in sculpting too." he replied. "This looks like more than dabbling to me." she said, running her fingers over the smooth texture. "That pendant is special to me because I found the rock it's made of at the bottom of the ocean on my first dive. I carved it into the shell you see now and it's been a good luck charm for me since." he explained. "Very interesting." she said, handing the necklace back to the otter, he slipping it back around his neck. "So what about you Lorena? What do you like to do?" he asked. "Aside from art, I like to read. Romance novel's mostly. I also like movies, the cheesier and more romantic the better." she said, causing him to chuckle. "What?" she asked annoyed. "No it's just most girls wouldn't admit to that so openly. At least not the ones I've met." he explained. "Well that should go to show you that I'm not like most other girls. I'm not going to hide who I am." she replied with a smirk. "Oh I noticed that already, and I've got to say, I like it." he replied smiling. "I'm glad you do." she said, reaching for the last slice of pizza, only to realize that she was grabbing his hand. They both looked down to see their hands touching and both jerked back quickly. "You can have it." he said smiling. "Thanks." she replied. "Well what do you say we finish off the day walking along the shore?" he asked a few minutes later. "I'd love to." she replied. "Great." he said standing. He took at step and tumbled over his own foot, falling to the floor and drawing a bit of attention from the other patrons. Lorena couldn't help but chuckle a little to herself as she looked down on the upside down otter, and the goofy smile on his face. "I guess it's my turn." he said smiling back at her. "Only this time there was no rug." she said amused. "Yeah..." he said embarrassed. "Come on otter-boy. Let's go." she said, helping him stand and pushing him toward the exit.

A little while later, the two stood on the beach watching the sun set below the horizon. It was a beautifully clear day and the sun's glow bathed the two of them in orange. "I really had fun today Lorena." said Lawrence truthfully. "I had fun too." she replied with a smile, looking back into his green eyes. "Maybe we could do this again sometime?" he asked hopefully. "I'd like that." she said. "I suppose we should start heading back." he suggested a little hesitantly. "Yeah. I guess we should." she replied turning to walk with him, still holding the teddy bear he'd won for her.

The End
