The Last Kitsune

The Last Kitsune

Sora, kitsune of the Forest House. He only possesses three tails. Powers of this mystic animal are hard to understand. Life of a Kitsune is one that must be lived with honor and wisdom. Those who do not follow such rules will suffer. One must understand the true meaning of being a Kitsune. One cannot just explain the true meaning of one. You can only grasp the understanding of a Kitsu by following one. Sora is our choice.

It is fall. I leap from tree branch to tree branch at high speed. So fast that no rustle of leaves or falling of leaves is created. I have never left these sacred woods of the Forest Clan. Within these woods, my true power is released. I stopped and took a quick look around. A black wolf was walking through the woods. He was carrying around a gruesome scythe. I heard rumors that the Black Strike was hunting Kitsune. I learned that throughout history, Kitsune have done treacherous things to all people of this world. Now we are hunted. The wolf looked around. He had a white moon shape mark above his left eye. He had a brown ragged hood and a ragged loincloth. Shit, he sees me. He took his scythe and threw it. I could see it spinning through the air like a chainsaw of death. The sound scared me. I leaped to the next tree. I hate dogs. Wolves included. They are such scary beasts. Come on Sora think. You have three tails for a reason. I looked up. I knew what to do. The scythe soared back into the wolf's hand. Damn, a cursed scythe. He threw it again, this time faster. I smiled. I put my paws together and created another image of myself. I dodged again at high speeds and watched as the image of me was sliced with scythe. Blood dripping out from the midsection. The image fell to the ground. The illusion was very weak but then again, I am not the best at it. The wolf however bought it. The scythe again, flew back into his hand and he walked over to the fake me on the ground. He tried to pick it up but his hands went through it. I smiled a success. He looked directly at me. How did he know I was here sitting in this tree. He looked to the left. He does not know I am here, good. I ran away as fast as I could. I would have fought the black wolf if it were not for one thing; he is part of the dog family. I ran through the trees back to my village. Our most powerful Kitsune was Shi. He was a seven-tailed Kitsune. He is the master of four different Kitsune. Each one being a five tailed Kitsune. Our clan is the smallest and weakest. We were the first to be attacked during the Great War. That war was the war against all Kitsunes. Now, the kitsune houses are separate nations and everyone is out to get us. We are at war with everyone including our own kind. The humans were the cause of this war. Ever since our great and powerful, nine tailed Kitsune Surbarashi. I do not know much of the war for it happened before I was born but all I do know is, I there are only 20 Kitsune left in the House of the Forest.

"Hey Sora!" yelled Tegata. He is my best friend. He is a four-tailed Kitsune and his job is to guard the gates to our house. "How have you been?" He has light green fur and at the tip of his tails were white fur. He is very energetic and kind.

"I am fine. I was just attacked by a black wolf!" I knew if there was one, there would many more. Tegata opened the gates and I walked into our city, our only city. I walked and all the houses were made of wood. Log cabins to be exact. We have just the woods as our resource. The only guns we have are just a handful pistols. That is our best defense. Our get 7-tailed kitsune is about as powerful as he will get. He is too old. He is on the verge of death. Our only hope is the five-tailed foxes we have. I finally made it to my house. I walked in to it. It is 11 pm. I decided it is time to go to sleep. I always wear my clothes to sleep. When there are only 20 of you left, you always have to be prepared. I looked at my wall were my obsidian katana was located. My father gave that to me. He died when there was a raid at our village 20 years ago. I lay down in bed. I thought about today. That black wolf, he was good. He is still alive. I shivered. I hate wolves. I took a deep breath. "Come down, nothing will happen, just get some rest."

Morning came and the village was active as ever. I got out from bed and walked over to the mirror. Unlike everyone else in my village, I had white fur. The rest of my village had fur that seemed to blend with the forest. I walked over to my katana. "Can't believe I am doing this." I took the sword that was within its black case and placed on my back. I took the two straps that was attached to the sword and attached them together. There was an emblem on the strap. It was that of a sun. I wore a gray t-shirt and over that was my black hoodie. I looked around for my scarf. I placed took the scarf and tied it around my neck. It was a red scarf. I wore dark washed jeans and looked for my belt. It was a common black belt. I never wore shoes. There was a hole in the back of my jeans for my three tails to come out of. I took my hood and placed it over my head. I then raised the scarf up to cover my mouth. Today I must be extra careful because of the possibility of an invasion. I looked for my ball. It was just a normal blue ball of solid glass. Very strong unbreakable glass. I put both paws on it and closed my eyes. I transferred a little of my power within that ball. If someone takes control of my orb, they can force me to do anything for them until I take it back. I place power within the orb so if someone does take it, there strength must be stronger in order to use the ball. I looked for my black backpack. It was filled with variable objects I may need incase I ever get lost. I looked for my pistol. I placed it in my pocket. I Prefer to not use it but, if death calls me, I will not hold back. I took the orb and placed it in my bag.

I walked out the door and saw two kids playing. I sighed, this is going to be a long day. I looked around, I saw the five shop owners selling their goods. I need to go to the city. I began to leave the town and then Tegeta yelled from the look out post,

"Hey Sora, where are you going?"

"I am going to the city, I need to see if I can get more goods!" I yelled back. He nodded and opened the gates. We had a small wooden wall and a small gate that could only be opened from the look out posts that were throughout the city.

I began to follow a path that would lead to the city. To travel to this city is a 3 day walk from here. Many who try to find our city get lost within our woods. Our seven-tailed Kitsune placed an illusionary spell within these woods only Kitsune can see through. I saw many trees that were miles high. The illusion that was put on this forest would make any average man faint and go insane. I heard the rustling of a bush near by. I instantly placed my hand upon the handle of my sword and turned in the direction of the noise. My eyes looking intently onto the bush. Out of the bush came a little rabbit. I took a deep breath.

"This is going to be a long walk."

Soon it became night, pitch black. I looked for a tree I could rest in. I found the perfect one. I climbed up it at great speeds and rested upon the first branch I saw. I tried to close my eyes. I was to tense, worried. I didn't want to admit it but, I was scared. Finally, I was able to close my eyes and begin to sleep.

I awoke to the noise of a bird calling. I barely was able to rise. I almost fell out of the branch. I forgot I was sleeping in one. I am to use to sleeping in a branch. I took a good breath and looked around. I saw nothing as usual. It is quiet strange that I haven't seen anyone. I began again to go on my journey to the city. I am almost out of the woods. Just another hour at most and I should be out. I began to run. I made no noise each step I took. It almost looked as if I was flying, gliding through the air. I heard a slight murmur up ahead. I stopped instantly. I climbed up a tree and jumped from tree to tree to see if I can get a better look at what was going on. I two black wolves. One was a warrior. He carried a rounded shield and on his side was a sword. He wore much armor and held a helmet on his side. The other was the same wolf I saw before. He held his scythe with the blade pointing downward and the staff behind him. The scythe holding wolf hushed the warrior and began to look around. Did he see me? I had no choice. I took my bag off and reached in it for a flash bang. I smiled and pulled the pin. I covered my ears and closed my eyes. I heard a loud bang! I looked up and saw the two wolves going crazy screaming. I smiled and ran.

I finally made it out of the woods. I put my paws together and closed my eyes. I then transformed myself into a squirrel. I am not the best at transformation. I can at least turn into small animals and objects however.

I ran on the side of a dirt path. I was just a day away from the city. A bear came walking down the path and looked at me. He smiled and tried to step on me. I ran faster, and faster. I can't have a break can I? I climbed up a tree at high speeds and laid hidden upon one of the branches. I constantly looked around. Night began to fall. I will finally make it to the city tomorrow. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

I awoke to a cracking noise. A tree limb began to break. I looked around and to my surprise, my tree limb was breaking! I had no time to jump the tree limb fell with me on it.

"AHH!" I screamed. I closed my eyes and turned back into a Kitsune. My knee was bleeding and a portion of my face was. If I was still a squirrel I would have died. I heard a rustle onto of the tree. Leaves making the annoying crinkling noise. "H-hello?" I said. A Kitsune jumped off out of the tree and landed on her feet. She had dark blue fur. She wore Tight black jeans and a white t-shirt. She was quiet beautiful. What house is she from?

"Hello, I am Jade. What is your name?" She asked. She started at me intently. I wasn't sure what to say. I am never good with social interactions, especially since everyone I meet tries to kill me.

"S-Sora" I finally said. She nodded. She smiled gently. Great, she knows I am a shy guy I assume. I tried my best to casually look away as if something is going on. Unfortunately, my looking away, looked pretty awkward.

"Where are you headed?" She asked in a gently tone. She is very beautiful. If only I were as well.

"The city.." I said. Hopefully she will realize I am not the most interesting person and leave. I have never been this nervous before. Damn, I am pathetic.

"Oh, I am headed there as well" she said. Is it fate or is she just saying she is headed to the city? Whatever the case, this is going to be a long walk. "Ok lets transform and get to my car" she said. She has a car? We put our hands together. I transformed into my signature squirrel. She transformed into a wolf. A gray wolf. I never got the chance to see how many tails she has. She looked at my transformation and laughed. We walked over to her car. It was a old mustang. To be exact it was a 1970 black Ford Mustang. I was amazed.

"Wow!" I said. "How could you afford this?" she smiled and pulled the keys out. She threw them at me.

"You drive" she said. I was shocked. Well one, I am a squirrel I can't drive like that. I closed my eyes and placed my paws together. I need to be another animal. Something that is a bit bigger. I transformed into a wolf myself. A black wolf. All I could think about was that black wolf I saw earlier. I wore the same clothing. I looked at Jade. She nodded and smiled. I started the engine and began to drive. Slowly at first of course, we are in the woods. A few minutes later after avoiding many trees, we hit the road. The road was perfect. The engine sounded amazing. Tough, strong, and loud. Thank you for being loud. Honestly, it would have been awkward if it wasn't. Sucks to be a shy guy. I was driving 80mph down the road. A perfectly straight road. The entire time, Jade was looking at me. I quickly looked at her and tightened my grip on the wheel. What do I say? Damn, I am going to lose it if I can't think of anything to say.

"What house are you from?" She asked. I lucked out. She started the conversation.

"I am from the house of the forest, what about you?" I asked. Her eyes widened.

"I am from the house of the Ocean. I thought the forest was dead" she said with all honesty.

"No, we are close to it. We lost the Wolo-Forest war and now there are only a handful of us left.

"Wow" she said. Her eyes changed from shock to sadness. Don't tell me she feels bad. "I am sorry" she said.

"Don't worry about it" I said. As much as I love talking to her, I feel I may mess up. I am not use to talking so much.

The ride to the city only took two hours instead of another day. I lucked out getting a ride in a car. We parked the car and I handed the keys back to her.

"Keep it" she said. I shook my head and placed the keys in her hand.

"Don't worry about it" I said. We walked to the front gate. It was guarded by two rhino's carrying large assault rifles. I don't think they let kitsunes in. They looked at us and nodded. The tradition of transformation has been kept secret by the general public for centuries. If word got out, an entire war would break out between everyone. As much as our kind likes to mess with people, it wouldn't be the best idea to kill them all off. Besides, the only trick they know about us is the possession of women.

The city was huge. Buildings as far as the eye could see. It full of constant commotion. I saw men and women talking and flirting. People trying to trade. Rhino soldiers all over the place.
