Chapter Ten.

A League all his own

It took them almost a week to reach the desert resort with having some good old battles along the way with acceptable legit trainers. Then it took another half day for them to reach the entrance to the Relic Castle. By the time they reached the entrance to the ruins, everyone was hot and miserable after walking in the sand blasted heat for so long. Back when they had first entered the area where the sand storm had really become a hindrance Evin had been forced to put Victini back in her ball just so the sand wasn't always getting into her big blue eyes.

As they first entered the underground maze and left the wind behind, Rika was the only exception to the unhappy mood they were in, as the two human teens were both covered in sand and feeling sand blasted raw. Rika happened to not mind the sand very much at all though, mainly from being part steel type. Though while out in the storm she did have to keep her eyes closed most of the time, but to her the sand actually felt good to her fur and body. When they stopped inside the ruins, sand covered them all from head to toe and was in every nook and cranny of everything as they all shook off and readied to pitch camp inside the ruin's entrance out of the sandstorm above.

First the three of them started by removing the sand from their hair and Rika her fur, then emptying the gear, but even after they shook and brushed all they could from themselves, they all still felt gritty and worn out. Sleep for them came easy, but even then it wasn't necessarily restful. Piplup and Herdier kept watch for the night, making sure all the ghost pokemon and possibly trainers stayed away, while wind and sand from above howled over them as it passed over openings.

The next morning breakfast was interrupted by a call on Evin's pokenav, and when the screen came up it was Professor Juniper. Though Evin could tell she looked troubled, and her face also bespoke how tired she was along with a considerable amount of stress. So Evin asked, "What's wrong? Did one of the teams strike again? And why do you look so tired?"

Juniper sighed and said, "I'm tired because I've been up the last four days working on making the machine we were talking about, and I have also been orchestrating meetings with all the people I told you about. But now I face another problem; convincing the others we can trust you.

The officers and the army want to know why you are qualified and why I would entrust this kind of machine to you. You being so young doesn't exactly strike a good note with older veterans, some of which feel that the machine would be better used in their own hands. All of them have been skeptical about your behaviors of late as some of the things you do don't quite ring normal, but on the other hand the nurses from the pokemon centers support this decision, as do a number of the gym leaders. The elite four have withheld their judgments due to that they don't know much about you, but the champion Alder, should be arriving where you are now very soon.

He wishes to observe you and get the full story from you; I also would like your permission to tell everyone in these select groups about your entire story..." Evin wasn't surprised that Alder would come, but to tell his entire story; even Dawn didn't know everything yet. He resolved to tell her when he told Alder since he seemed to have no choice in the matter. If he was to gain people's trust, certain things must be revealed, and he said with a sigh said, "Do as you see fit, but only tell those who can be trusted beyond all doubt. I will tell Alder about myself when he arrives."

The professor nodded and thanked him and informed him what progress she had made with making a machine on which they had discussed. She explained that the machine's design was from old plans of a Snag machine that the government had recovered many years ago and told him that she was modifying it with current teach. Once she was done, she gave a long yawn before telling Evin to stay safe and that she would call again once there was an update; then she hung up. Evin felt a heavy weight on his chest, as things around him seemed to be taking on new aspects of reality. He now felt vulnerable in a way he never had, as things seemed to be falling apart and unfolding in ways he never dreamed of. He felt like he was drowning in a sea of constant change, where he never had time to get accustomed to anything.

Dawn snapped her fingers in front of him a few times to snap him out of his blank faced thoughts and asked him why he was so spaced out. Evin told her he would tell her his entire story when Alder got there. She wasn't sure what that was supposed to mean, but nodded. Soon after that they packed camp, but no sooner had their equipment been stored, did they see a sight that made them all go cold inside.

A large group of Team Plasma came in from one of the holes above and set off for the depths of the ruins. Evin called out Victini and all his other pokemon and asked Victini to lend him her power. She did as he requested and he shot a gigantic aura sphere at the group currently gathering.

This caused many of the men and women to go flying through the air, some landed on other holes for different levels, while others hit walls and were knocked unconscious, but a few still remained and called out several other pokemon, but before they could do anything Victini rushed in and used searing shot in their area and blasted them all. The sheer ferocity and power of the attack about left Evin stunned. For in the after math all the pokemon were fainted and some of the conscious team members were on fire and running around burning to death.

Evin could smell the sickening smell of burring flash at this point and did his best to hold his breakfast down. Dawn just kept her face and nose covered and didn't even want to see, while Rika looked on with awe at how much destruction the cute little pokemon had caused. Victini came back to Evin with a regretful look on her face and he comforted her, letting her know it was ok.

Eventually the Plasma members that were on fire quit moving and they all decided they couldn't wait for Alder to get there any longer. In pursuit to see what Team Plasma was after, they ran into a few ghost, ground, and dark type pokemon sometimes, but they were easily taken care of by Shadow as they pressed on. They ran into a few more Plasma grunts, which they defeated without too much hassle, and left them tied up in ropes behind them because they didn't have time to waste on getting them behind bars.

Evin was mainly depending on his memories from playing the game once again as they looked for the right holes to go down and continued to find more members of Team Plasma. Dawn's and Evin's pokemon began looking worn out, but Evin could tell that they were getting close. It finally came that they went down the hole where two of the Plasma executives were left behind to stand guard, whom confronted them as they appeared from above.

By now, Evin was in a real bad mood and slammed the two team members against the walls a few times with a psychic attack of his own, before the members released a tyranitar, houndoom, mightyena, cacturne, and hydreigon. Evin threw them around a few more times as his anger grew worse before he was attacked, and then the all out fight began. The fighting went on for a small while before all the executive's pokemon were downed and they followed suit soon after. Incapacitating trainers and pokemon, left Evin and his own pokemon along with Dawn's group gasping for air, as some of them were pretty beat up.

They went down the last hole and found Alder already at the bottom confronting Ghetsis after he had beaten him in a fight. Alder called Evin and Dawn over as they took in the site of the ruins for a moment, then Evin and the others ran over to him. Ghetsis ranted for a while about Team Plasma's holy crusade and their King that would once again rule all of Unova. Which Evin knew was for the most part a ruse for his own power gain, before then saying that his King was already chosen by one of the legendary dragons.

Evin was not surprised by this and just wanted the ranting fool to shut up already. He could barely put up with it when it was a game, but in real life, it irritated him to no end. As expected, Ghetsis ran off after stating the light stone wasn't there and got away before Evin or Alder could catch him. After they were sure he was gone, Alder began to talk with Evin about what had all just occurred. After that Alder then decided it was time to leave the stuffy room they were in at the bottom of the ruins and got everyone to make their way out to the upper levels.

Evin was extremely tired in this time, he had ended up healing himself several times just getting down there and had used a lot of his energy attacking Team Plasma himself up until then. But now that his adrenalin was draining and he was feeling weaker by the second as the shakes started setting in. Alder noticed how tired Evin was during this time, and even how ripped up and bloody his cloths were from fighting himself, but Alder kept the observations to himself for now.

Once outside in the wind and sand again, Alder started to speak, but right when he did, Evin's watch phone went off again. It was Professor Juniper, and she had news after she had told the other groups Evin's full story. The decision had been made.

Evin was roused a bit from his exhausted stupor with this information and told the Professor about what just happened. After hearing about the light stone, Juniper asked him to come back to the museum in Necrene City as soon as possible and told him that she would have something for him when he got there.

Evin about fell over at the thought of traversing all the way back to that city, as he felt spent in his current state. Alder took pity at seeing how tired he was, and offered them all a ride on his Hydreigon, and told them he could drop them off at the pokemon center there to rest after they figure things out.

The flight took the rest of the day, and Victini was in a cheerful mood as she flew near them and kept up easily. Then by the time sunset came, they could finally see the museum and a bunch of people talking near the entrance. As they landed, Evin thanked Alder for the assistance, and Alder replied that it was no problem at all. Then Evin let Rika out of her ball since he had put her in it so they could fly with Alder. Evin, Alder and the others then set off to meet the group at the museum.

Everyone in front of the museum could see plain as day that things had been rough for Evin, given the general state his cloths and other signs of exhaustion. The professor thanked them for stopping Team Plasma, and soon after the others also added their praise for a job well done. Evin was about ready to drop, but he looked around at the congregation and spotted all the gym leaders studying him, as well as the police officer Jenny and a man in an army uniform.

After everyone was done talking again, Juniper walked up to Evin and said, "These are the people I have told you about that I have enlightened about your peculiar predicament, and they have agreed that letting you have the machine is most likely to be in everyone's best interest. But they all want you to give them your solemn oath that you will not miss use it."

Evin nodded his agreement and once he was told exactly what kind of oath they wanted from him, he stood before them and gave the oath to only use the machine when necessary and to also make sure it dose not fall into the wrong hands. Juniper then spoke up and said, "I just finished it just before you arrived here. It's the only prototype of its kind with untested experimental technology, so I might be able invent a few add-ons later on. But that won't be happening for a while since I'm going to take a nice long rest after we are done here. As for the light stone you mentioned earlier, Lenora here has something to show everyone."

Then just as she finished Lenora stepped forward with the light stone in hand and held it out for all to see and said, "I have guarded this stone for many years, but I do not know how anyone might revive the legendary dragon type from its slumber." The group of people gathered around and talked and many even touched, but the stone did not react to anyone. That was until Evin grew a little curious and touched it himself. Right when the stone came in contact with Evin's hand, the earth shook and a great light emanated from the stone.

As this happened, Evin could feel his own body's energy being sapped like never before as the stone took from him what it required, which caused Evin to fall to his knees and cover his eyes with his other hand as the light became blinding. Then with a strange sounding roar they heard the dragon's cry, and when everyone was finally able to open their eyes, the legendary stood before them.

Everyone was in awe at this, and for a moment they thought this meant that the legendary would serve and help him willingly, but Reshiram had other things in mind. Just then Reshiram jumped back from the group and roared a challenge at Evin. Victini immediately gave Evin some of her power and Evin got back on his feet.

He wasn't exactly steady on his feet, but he knew most of his pokemon wouldn't be a match for Reshiram to begin with, much less given everyone's condition. So as he began to charge up his body he handed his other pokeballs to Dawn for safekeeping. Seconds later, he charged up an aura sphere just as he dodged a flamethrower warning shot, and then shot the dragon on the left side of its chest.

Reshiram howled a bit from the force of being hit, but was still otherwise unhurt and oddly enough seemed to like how powerful the attack was. Reshiram ignited the fire on its tail and Evin then found himself unable to sense the thoughts of anyone around him. His more subtle abilities had been disabled and just then he narrowly dodged a fusion flare before he ran up the dragon's back and used his powers to make himself jump high into the air. From this vantage point he threw another aura sphere at it, hitting its face hard as it turned up at him.

This time while it was stunned for a moment, when Evin landed he powered himself up and dashed in and preformed a basic close combat on it and in the last blow managed to knock the large pokemon back a few feet. Evin was really in mortal agony by this point, his knuckles even though Reshiram had a course fur instead of scales, were bloody and raw, and his muscles screamed from over used.

Then Reshiram retaliated with dragon pulse and knocked Evin tumbling back many feet before he managed to stop himself. The others almost stepped in at this point, all being amazed that he could hold his own against a legendary as long as he had. Even with being powered by Victini, it was an amazing feet. But Evin taking a hit like that last one, some of the people were becoming afraid he could get killed if this went on, mainly the Nurse Joys.

But Evin got up and said as a few gym leaders started to walk his direction, "No, this is my fight.. (gasp) I have to prove myself to it." The gym leaders were a bit astonished when he rejected their help, but then Evin had to gathered his power as he saw Reshiram charging up another fusion flare.

Evin tried to use his aura powers to block the gigantic fireball with an aura barrier like he once saw in one of the movies. But when the fireball was launched, it crashed into the barrier with the sound of fragile crashing glass. The force of the fireball was much too powerful for Evin to hold off, and he was hit on his right side as it broke through, leaving him badly burned on his arm, shoulder, and half his chest.

The rest of his barrier broke to pieces like shattered glass soon after as he knelt there holding his throbbing side. Then in a last brazen attempt to make the legendary acknowledge him, he raised his burned hand as he used every last bit of energy he had left in a psychic attack. With the attack he picked up the large pokemon and then slammed it into the ground twice, causing a massive concussion each time. Reshiram went down momentarily and Professor Juniper tossed Evin an ultra ball, which he quickly used as Reshiram began to stand again.

Upon feeling his powers becoming active again after Reshiram was sucked into the ball, Evin sensed proud acceptance emanating from the legendary, as the ball wiggled for almost a minute before it made the all clear sound. He knew he hadn't totally beaten it, but he did give the dragon good challenge at least. But now as he picked the ball up, he collapsed, seeing the ground rushing at him before total darkness as he passed out.

****

When Evin woke, he was in the emergency room of a pokemon center; he was tired, thirsty, and a bit famished from hunger. It took him almost a minute to recall everything that had happened to explain how he had gotten here. But the more he thought about it, the stranger things seemed to be. Oddly enough after putting his puzzled mind back together; even though he knew he had never healed himself, his arm was once again whole, and his side no longer had searing pain raging out of control.

He was on a bed with no covers, and was still in his dirty battle worn cloths that still stank with a burned mixture of skin, sweat, blood and cloth, and he was even still covered in sand. He looked at his hand in awe, as he wondered how his body didn't have a scratch on it anymore, and that other than him needing to sate his thirst and hunger, he felt excellent. The ball of Reshiram was also still clutched in his left hand though, which Evin thought was also rather odd being that he had passed out. He was a little bewildered about his arm, but decided he must have only been out for only a short time as he got off the bed and went into the front lobby.

Upon entering the front lobby Evin saw Dawn and all the pokemon they had including his own, all sleeping on a bench near the door he just came through. Still bewildered he started to go over to Dawn to wake them, but before he could, the man in the army uniform stepped into the room and waved him over.

Evin wasn't sure who this man was, but could tell he was a lot like his own father from the way his thoughts were composed and just his general features. They stepped outside, and Evin found that it was the very early hours of morning and then asked, "What's going on? Why was I in the emergency room still covered in dirt and sand, while still clutching Reshiram's ball? And where is everyone?"

The soldier just said, "Calm your self; you were badly injured after your fight with the legendary Dragon of the flame. After you fainted and collapsed, what ever kind of powers you have, wrapped you in some kind of a cocoon of psychic and aura energy that seems to have slowly healed you over the last three days since you've been unconscious. At least that's how it would seem after the professor's explanation."

Evin was astonished and said in half disbelief, "Three days?" the man nodded. Evin didn't know what else to say, thinking, (Three days... I didn't even think it had been more than an hour, much less that. Well at least I know what happens if I get badly hurt and pass out.) then Evin asked, "Are the others still here?"

The soldier sighed and then said, "Most of the others returned to their posts, but the Professor, me, Lenora and the Nurse Joy at this pokemon center, are still in this city. Juniper is sleeping in a room here at the pokemon center, and Lenora is back at the museum and you already know where your friends are.

The girl Dawn hasn't been far from your door since you fell unconscious and neither has your lucario, who even tried to break your cocoon a few times before she could be convinced to just wait. Your victini also tried to help your lucario pierce the barrier that surrounded you, but nothing seemed to be able to break it.

So it has become apparent to us that when you are seriously injured, your powers turn inward on you to protect you as you are healed. But even then we have no idea what would happen if you were killed before that could happen. So you still need to be mindful and try to let your pokemon protect you as is their duties in these situations, there's not much they can do if you die, or are rendered unconscious."

Evin was already aware of that part and didn't like being reminded, but he knew the man meant well and took his input without comment. They soon walked back into the pokemon center where Nurse Joy gave them a quiet greeting and served Evin and the soldier breakfast. She asked Evin how he felt and after he stated that he just needed something to eat and drink she checked the places that had been burned and said, "Its amazing how you can heal yourself as you did, I see why the professor wants to study you so bad.

Though she herself has been over doing things this past week by having herself so busy. She spent the last three days studying your Victini and improving her machine here and there, when she should have been getting sleep and resting. I'm afraid if she doesn't slow down a bit, she'll collapse from exhaustion. I think it's cruel what Teams Plasma and Rocket are doing to people and pokemon, and I would give anything to see them stopped, but one person can't carry the weight of this entire situation.

By using the professor's machine, I hope you can help by freeing the pokemon that the Team organizations have enslaved against their will, but still don't be afraid to ask for help." Evin then said, "I intend to put an end to both Team Plasma and Rocket. I had no idea that Teams Rocket and Plasma would be this far out of control when I came to this world. When this was all (he gestured to everything) a video game or TV show, these teams weren't quite so violent or powerful, and some of them were only very minor nuisances. But here in this world, they seem like they might seriously take over the world if we don't stop them."

The man in the army uniform now spoke, "Team Rocket is the one working for that goal, but Team Plasma is on some kind of twisted holy crusade that in the end is also much the same as what you say. Somehow in these last few years, both factions have gained massive amounts of recruits and power and this in turn has set off a chain reaction with all the other kinds of sinister organizations. Like now the pokemon hunters and poachers for example have doubled in number, and all of these people have total disregard for the authorities. That's why, when the professor told us about you and your possible destiny to right this unbalance, we even considered the production of the machine she is giving you."

Evin nodded and just then they heard someone walking from up stairs and a few seconds later professor Juniper greeted them. She talked to the man in the uniform and then the nurse, then she finally turned to Evin and said, "I'm glade your ok after what happened; it looks like your wounds healed up quite nicely inside your little bubble while you were unconscious, but you still look like a mess.

You really do need to take better care of yourself, but that is why we also commissioned some more durable cloths for you; since you seem to always be where the action is and apart of it. (She winked at him) The cloths we commissioned for you are very durable and resistant to pokemon attacks, so you may find that some attacks wont do anything to harm you or the cloths. But still, try and take care of them, you cant find such things at local retailers everyday.

The devise or Snag machine as it was once named, is an old but advanced design of a gauntlet that could let the user capture an opponent's pokemon regardless of if that pokemon belonged to another trainer. Though the power sources from the plans of the old design that were once used can no longer be found. This is because those particular power stones that were once used were shattered after the shadow pokemon wars ended. But with some tinkering I have made it so that the device should be able to work off of your aura powers to charge a few rare aura stones to power its functions. And for your safety, the gauntlet has been designed so that it has a five-minute cool down after each use, this is so that it doesn't drain your energy too quickly; so you need to be careful with your timing.

We have modeled your armor so that it can be attached to the Snag machine gauntlet and effectively lock the device to your arm at the shoulder. It for the most part looks like part of your armor and thus shouldn't be too noticeable by the average person walking by. The machine is made out of an experimental combination of elements that should make the device almost impervious to attacks and to add to this defense I also installed some extra aura stones to produce a barrier effect. But to sustain this extra defense it will draw a small amount of your aura energy, which should effectively create a small dense aura shield that can protect you and the device itself from harm."

The professor then took a moment to think about things for a moment as she caught her breath and then continued, "Even though it can create this kind of a barrier, let me make one thing clear. A prototype such as this can be very finicky, so I beg you not to try and stop boulders with it. Most things like a pokemon's flamethrower or other energy attacks will be easily deflected, but it can get damaged if you use it to block physical attacks often. Also don't use hand-to-hand combat with it while it's equipped, for doing so might also damage it. Other then that, everything is ready for you right now, but you better go take a shower before you try everything on."

Evin nodded, thanked her for all her effort; then she then told him what room to go to, to get washed up and where to find his new gear. Once up to the room, Evin went strait for the shower and quickly got in eager to wash the gritty sand from his body and took special care to make sure he got all the sand out of his hair and ears.

After he was done and still had steam rolling off his body, he got in front of the mirror and looked his body over. He noticed the muscles in his arms were becoming slightly more prominent then they had once been before coming to this world and even his abs showed well-used changes. His features were becoming harder all over from the constant moving all the time and his face had lost most all of its previous baby fat roundness and was developing his more teen age characteristics.

He looked both handsome and strange as he scrutinized himself and found that his hair seemed to have turned even more platinum now then the last time he looked at it. He ran a hand through it, thinking how strange it was to be his age with hair this color. It shined with a brilliance that he found to be rather fetching after studying it closely, thinking that it actually was starting to make him look cool. He flexed his muscles and was pleased with how he looked; feeling like the shower had refreshed him.

He then went to the closet the professor had indicated and opened it. Inside was a pair of sturdy looking black army boots, three pairs of men/boys underwear, three black under shirts and then the armored uniform that was like a Kevlar suet, but it seemed to be missing its left arm. The bottom half was black and had a few strap belts around the legs. The top half matched the bottom in color but also seemed to have hard flexible plates for added protection on the front.

To the side of this one-armed outfit, Evin saw a jacket that was roughly his size, but also had the same color design as Rika's blue and black fur. He imagined that he and her would match very well now in appearance with him wearing this, but as he touched it he couldn't quite tell what it was made of. It looked kind of like leather, but the feel of it was all wrong, yet still comfortable.

As he put his new gear on, he took note that he didn't see the snag machine anywhere and guessed the Professor had it somewhere else. Even though the gear made him a little over warm from the coverage, he was glad that it was still only slightly heavier than wearing normal cloths as he finished putting the outfit on. After he was dressed, he once again admired himself in the mirror and noted that this outfit would really make him stick out in a crowd, which really wasn't a big bonus for him and his hair only added to that effect.

He walked down the stairs and once again found himself facing Juniper, the man in the army uniform that still hadn't given his name, Nurse Joy, Lenora, her husband, and Dawn with Rika beside her along with Victini sitting on Rika's head. Dawn and the pokemon had awed expressions as they got their first look at Evin after three days. Seeing him in his new outfit was awesome and they could also see the stunning difference in the color of his hair now.

Rika was extremely satisfied by the color match his outfit had with herself, and Dawn though he looked really cool. Juniper was holding something that looked like an arm made of Kevlar that had a few interlocking metal pieces and a few strange looking stones placed in key locations.

Juniper looked him over and said, "It looks good on you, how dose it fit?" Evin moved around and experimented with his movement and said, "Its perfect, doesn't hinder me in the least." She nodded her acceptance and proffered the snag machine in front of her and said, "Come, try this on; I need you to perform one experiment to make sure it works. Being that this has never been tried before, I don't know for sure just yet that it will do what I designed it to do, and you being the only one here that can power it, meant I had to wait."

Evin stepped in front of her and removed the jacket. Then he put his uncovered arm into the sleeve that seemed to glide over his skin until his hand fit into the end glove perfectly. Once his hand was in, Juniper asked him to make a fist. Upon doing so, Evin first heard a click, but then he felt the device contract until it was snug on his entire arm. Even after feeling his hand click into the last part of the machine and having it close down on his arm, it still felt like he had full movement of it. Then the Professor helped him latch the straps and clips until it fit together with the armor perfectly. With everything locked in place, three of the five gems made charging sounds as they began to power up. As this began to happen Evin could feel the very slight pull on his energy, and while his arm did feel a few pounds heavier than the rest of the gear it still didn't seem to bother him too much.

He once again experimented with his movement and decided he still liked it even though the added weight to one side made him feel a little off balance. Then once the gems stopped charging he quit feeling the drain on his energy. As Evin put the jacket back on, Juniper then asked everyone to come outside so they could see Evin perform a few tests with the gauntlet at full power.

Once they were all outside, Professor Juniper asked Evin to have Rika shoot an aura sphere at him, which he thought was a bit nuts for a first test on something that non of them were completely sure would work. Everyone else looked about the same on that as well, but he did as asked and he used his arm like a shield as Rika hesitated before she shot the aura sphere at him. To everyone's relief, the gauntlet worked as planned and automatically deflected the powerful sphere without damage or using very much energy on Evin's part.

He was amazed that it worked and wondered how many things he could block like that and then heard Juniper say, "Ok, now its time to put it to the real test," and just then a fourth stone became active as it finished its slow five minute charge and then she continued, "Charging a pokeball to snag another trainer's pokemon should be a lot like charging an aura sphere for you." She tossed him a regular pokeball and then asked the others, "Any one want to volunteer a pokemon for this?"

The crowd was silent, but then Dawn stepped up and said, "I have one that I wouldn't mind him having." Juniper nodded and said, "We can switch it back afterwards, but we need to make sure this dose what we need it to." Dawn called Cilia over, but at first she was apprehensive; she did as she was asked though and moved in front of Dawn as if she was ready to battle. Juniper then said, "I believe you will have to weaken her first, like when catching a wild pokemon. But first try it now to make sure." With that said, Evin powered up the pokeball and threw it.

The ball hit Cilia and sucked her in; normally this couldn't happen with already caught pokemon and would break the ball. Though as expected, like with an unweakened wild pokemon, it worked, but then Cilia broke free and was still under Dawn's command. Dawn sighed with reliefe, but the Professor nodded and stated, "As expected, ok you will need to weaken her in battle then to perform the final test to actually capture her." Evin didn't really want to hurt Cilia, but he desided to call Shadow over. Both pokemon looked at each other with hesitation as they now readied to fight each other.

The two were somewhat confused at trying to fight each other now that they had become mates, but everyone encouraged them to look at it like it was some kind of practice. It still took a while, but before too long passed Cilia was the first to begin to take the battle seriously and Shadow followed suit soon after.

Being that Cilia was a psychic and Shadow a dark type, the advantage was well in Shadow's favor and before long Cilia faltered when she was hit by dark pulse. Evin then charged up another ball in his left hand and when he threw it, the ball sparked as it flew through the air and hit Cilia on her gemmed forehead and sucked her inside.

The ball wiggled a bit then made the all clear sound; Nurse Joy immediately ran over and checked the ball and listened to it for a few moments and then said, "Everything seems to be ok here." just then the pokeball in Dawn's hand that had belonged to Cilia cracked and broke. Juniper nodded and said, I think that about dose it for our experiments. I will help switch them back later."

Evin now asked a question that was starting to bug him about the device and said, "Ok I see the gem that has to recharge for the snagging power and the other three for the shield, but what is this fifth gem for?" Juniper looked a bit saddened at being reminded about that one and said, "That one is meant to self-destruct the device; you will need to concentrate on that gem specifically to make it do that though, so there should not be any accidents with it, but its there for a precaution if you are captured and they are removing it from you to take as their own.

For you, the device's primary power is your aura, which draws very little energy from you, but there are other ways to power the machine with other sources, with enough tinkering. In other words, if they are about to get that device from you, destroy it. Even though a lot of effort went into it, it must not fall into the wrong hands."

Evin was a little put off by this, but nodded his understanding; Nurse Joy then handed him the pokeball and he let Cilia out and asked her how she felt. She shook her head for a moment then gave a happy smile, though when she looked at Dawn she seemed a little sad and Evin told her to cheer up and that the switch wasn't going to be permanent.

Hearing this did indeed cheer her up, and she walked over to Dawn and rubbed her head on Dawn's leg as Dawn pat her head. The man in the uniform, Lenora and her husband, and Nurse Joy all clapped for them and before everyone headed inside, Evin stopped Juniper and held up Spazz's and Aqua's pokeballs, which currently contained the two mates and said, "If you wouldn't mind, could you watch after these two for a while? They have become mates and have agreed to let you have their hatchlings for starter pokemon if you would like them."

Juniper bowed and accepted the balls and said, "Thank you; it might be a while before we actually get some new trainers in this region though. Studying a mating pair will be a nice respite from my usual tasks of late. I want you to take good care of yourself though and try to keep the snag machine secret and safe, I'd hate to have to build another. The gems are rare and so are the metals I used in the construction."

Evin then said, "Safe and secret, that works for me, I'll try to do my best at both." From there they proceeded into the pokemon center, where Dawn gave Evin his pack that had been fully restocked with supplies and a few new pieces of gear. Sense he had the snag machine on his left arm now, he ended up having to keep his pokenav on his right as he adjusted everything.

It was beginning to get close to noon by the time they were all ready to leave and had the pokemon switched back, then everyone said their farewells. Professor Juniper stopped them one last time though and came over to Evin and said, "Hold out your hand." Evin did as she asked, and she dropped a master ball in his palm and said, "Use this when you see Zekrom, it will prevent unnecessary blood shed if you just take it away from their organization without a big fight." Evin nodded, and put the ball away, then waved goodbye as he and Dawn exited the center and soon after left the city.
