REBIRTH

THE DARKNESS OF REALITY

Pt. 2 Ch. 3

As we traveled along our way towards the Unknown's cave to rescue the lost archeologist, my mind couldn't stop running over what Lady Suicune had said. It was true that most of my body was comprised of that of a Pokémon, but my mind was still that of a human. But one thing that kept on bugging me was the thought of how much I'd changed since my mind was placed into that of a Ralts. I mean, I wasn't that tiny Ralts anymore, I was now a powerful/knightly Gallade, the blade/fighting/psychic type Pokémon, but even that couldn't dispel the thought of me still having the mind of a Human.

It wasn't until we'd settled down for the night that I really felt the impact of what she'd said. It was Trisha who came up to me that broke me out of my train of thought. 'Are you alright Genii? You have been sitting here for quite some time.' I looked up to see Trisha sitting upon her haunches in front of me with her head cocked to the side as if contemplating/reading me.

"I guess so..." I said as I leaned back against the tree I was sitting against and took in a long breath. "Just thinking over something that Lady Suicune said to me before we left the center is all."

'It must be something pretty big if you are so lost in thought.' To which I nod to her and fail to notice her get up, and then sit back down next to me. 'Want to talk about it? I heard somewhere that if you talk about your problems it sometimes helps with solving them.' I reach on over and gently scratch her around her horn, knowing how much she likes to scratch and be scratched right in that particular spot.

"I really don't think it's something that you can really help with Trisha." I said and regretted saying it just as soon as those words left my mouth. "I mean...it's a problem about that barrier." A guilty laugh escaped my lips as I hastily rubbed at the back of my head.

'What about the barrier?'

My mind went quickly into that of overdrive as I tried to think of an answer to her question. "I worried about the barrier because...," My mind drew up a blank for quite a while until I saw Trisha raise up an eyebrow and look piercingly at me. "The...Archeologist...that's right, I'm worried about the barrier and the Archeologist."

'Oh really? Is that all?' To which she got up and poked me in the chest with her horn.

"Ya..., really. I'm worried that if we don't take down the barrier that we won't be able to get the lost Archeologist out of there." A few more moments were spent with me laughing in my nervous way and wondering on how much she'd press the issue further. "Anyways, where's Lady Suicune and Lady Cresselia? I haven't seen them in quite a while." I asked in a hurried tone, hoping to change the subject onto some other topic.

'Not really sure,' Trisha said as she returned to sitting on her haunches next to me. 'The last I saw of those two, they were bickering about something or other, while heading off into the woods.' She then nodded her head off to the side as if to indicate a direction that they'd gone.

In the front of my mind I was wondering what they'd be arguing about, but in the back of my mind a small voice was warning me that an argument between two legendary Pokémon wouldn't be a good thing. I slowly got up to my feet, dusted myself off then turned to look down at Trisha as I hear her get up too. "Well, it's getting a bit late and I don't want those two gone for too long. I think I'll go and get them so that we can eat something and get to bed a bit early tonight." Trisha gave a slight nod to that but I knew that by the look she was giving me that our conversation wasn't over.

Following the direction that Trisha had indicated, I headed off into the woods and allowed my mind to wonder onto other topics than the barrier and my possible problem with it. 'Why would those two go off together? I mean, I don't really see them gathering firewood or picking berries together.' A mental image of them peacefully picking the berries was quickly changed to them throwing those exact berries at each other and cover the other in their juices. I didn't know why that image seemed a little...intriguing, but for some reason it did. It was only a little while later that I began to hear the raised voices of two Pokémon that I knew.

'And what makes you think that you can just butt right into everything? He is not your knight you know.' Came the very upset/angry voice of Lady Suicune.

'I beg to differ, Suicune. He is just as much my knight as he is yours. Have you seen the way he looks at me and bows to me. Surely if that is not a sign of being a knight to me, then I do not know what is.' This time the voice belonged to that of Lady Cresselia.

'Oh, man. This can't be good. Both of them think of me as their personal knight.' I thought as I began to piece together the problem that was between the two of them. At first this wouldn't have been a problem, since I was to treat both legendary ladies the proper respect that they deserved. Though when one or the other begins to think that one particular knight is their own and not the others, problems are sure to follow. 'If it really comes down to it, I'm actually that of Lady Suicune's knight and have sworn on one knee to watch over and protect her. Though that too could be said to that of Lady Cresselia, though not in the whole kneeling in front of her and swearing loyalty to her.'

'I mean, who wouldn't want to serve one such as I?' I heard Lady Cresselia say as I raised my head and looked through the bush I'd taken cover behind. 'I mean, in terms of beauty, who can compete with one such as I. Just look upon my glorious visage and see how it sparkles, such a sight as that I am more inclined to have a knight protect me.'

'Then go find your own knight, Genii is mine.' I then looked over and could see that Lady Suicune's muzzle had scrunched up a bit and was beginning to show signs that she was really getting fed up with how Lady Cresselia was acting like that of a Beauty Queen. 'Before you even came along, he was...is my knight. He even got down upon one knee and swore to be my knight.' Though as she said those words I turned to see what Lady Cresselia's reaction to that, but I guess she must not have heard her as she held either side of her face in a girlish/shy like gesture and began to swoon a bit.

I dropped my head and would've pinched my nose, if I had a nose, and shook my head. 'There is nothing worse than when a female thinks that she is the gift to the world and must make sure that everyone else knows it.' I thought but at the sound of a growl I looked up and looked at the scene again.

'And what makes you think that he should remain, your, knight? I mean, I am much more legendary than you are, not to mention important. If it was not for me and my gifts then no-one would get a descent night's sleep.' Lady Cresselia placed a single hand on her chest and raised her nose up at Lady Suicune.

'Are you kidding me? That is all that you do?' Lady Suicune laughed and then sneered up at Lady Cresselia. 'What is dreams compared to that of clean water? If there was no clean water then there would be no water to drink and all living things need clean water. Whereas dreams are concerned, who needs dreams when the important thing is just to sleep.' Lady Cresselia stopped in her revere of herself, and it was her who looked down at Lady Suicune and scowled.

'I have to admit that Lady Suicune makes a good point. If the whole world's water supply is polluted then it doesn't really matter if we have dreams or not, because we'd all be dead from the bad water.' But through it all, I knew that this argument had to come to a close and I'd have to make a choice as to whom I truly did serve. Though before I could enter into the fray between the two I felt a paw at my leg and looked down.

'You really should pay more attention to your surroundings there Genii.' Trisha said as she looked up at me and smiled, but before I could ask her what she was doing here she simply held up a single digited paw to her lips to keep me from saying anything. 'I got a little worried when you did not come straight back and came to see what was keeping you.' She then turned and smiled as she looked upon that of Lady Cresselia and Lady Suicune. 'I bet you feel like the luckiest male in the world at the moment.'

Slightly raising an eyebrow I did a double take between her and the two fighting a short distance away. 'What do you mean by that. I would never wish to have someone fight for or over me.' Trisha looked up at me out of the corner of her eye and I could see a smirk on the side of her furry muzzle/face.

'Oh come now Genii, surely you should be brimming with smug glee at the moment.' She turned and looked back towards that of the two fighting and gave a nod for me to do the same. 'When I was still wild, a female is overjoyed to see how many males she can get to fight over the right to have her bare their young. On the other hand, it should be the same for a male to see several females fighting over the same rights.'

I didn't know if what Trisha was saying was true, but somewhere deep within me I was a bit conflicted to see who would get the rights to have me as their knight. 'Though what is the big deal about me being one or the others knight? I can see what Trisha is saying about claiming a mate, but I'm just a knight.' I thought but as I mulled over that for a bit a small light bulb went off in my head and my eyes went wide. As my eyes did so I looked down at Trisha and saw her smiling up at me and nod at the same time. 'This is more than that of claim over whom I'm supposed to be a knight to, it was...' That thought was quickly interrupted as we both heard someone shout and quickly turned to see who had shouted.

As we looked upon the sight, my mouth fell agape while Trisha couldn't help but snicker. During some time of their fight, Lady Suicune must have totally lost her temper and loosed a water attack that'd completely drenched Lady Cresselia. Lady Cresselia's transparent like wings were drooping quite low, her crescent crown sat slightly askew upon her head, and from several different places on her body beads of water dripped down. When I looked at Lady Cresselia a little closer I could see that she was holding her arms out to keep her soggy arms away from her body and had her head lowered, but when I looked over at Lady Suicune I could see a large smile on her muzzle/face. 'Maybe that will cool down that hot head of yours.'

Ever so slowly Lady Cresselia raised her head and I could see the look of utter hatred in her eyes. 'You damn bitch, look at what you have done to my glorious visage. You will pay for this!' With that she quickly launched herself at Lady Suicune and the two quickly went to the ground in a tumble of limbs and veils. For the next several seconds both Trisha and I watched as a large plume of dust began to rise and the two continued their assault on one another. At the front of my mind I was stunned to see these two legendary females going at it, but at the back my mind was calculating the odds. 'It may be true that Lady Cresselia is a bit more of a legendary than that of Lady Suicune, but I can see that Lady Suicune has more battle experience than her.' So as the battle/tumble continued it was beginning to show that Lady Cresselia was severely outmatched against that of Lady Suicune. It wasn't until Lady Cresselia finally separated herself from Lady Suicune that I saw her pull out one of the simplest tricks in the book and quickly multiplied herself in the Double Team move.

Lady Suicune quickly began to look about, trying to determine which of the copies was the original, but as she continued to look about, Lady Cresselia's eyes began to glow. Not knowing what her next move would do, I began to fear for Lady Suicune and quickly called out to her with my mental abilities. After I'd finished instructing her she raised her head to the sky and let out a cry that would've left your ears ringing. A short second later the skies began to fill with clouds and a light trickle began to fall.

Once the rain had begun to fall a little harder did Lady Suicune look about the copies and smiled as she stopped at one to her left. 'Now I have you!' She cried as she quickly leapt forward and clamped down upon Lady Cresselia's tail, effectively breaking the concentration of whatever Lady Cresselia was trying to do. A moment later a thin sheet of ice began to form where Lady Suicune had bit down and in the next that ice quickly began to spread. It wasn't until most of Lady Cresselia's body was covered in ice did she finally unclamp her jaws and take a few steps back.

'H...how did you s...see through m...my d...double team s...so qui...quickly? N...nobody has ever...' Lady Cresselia's voice was broken up due to her constant shivering and her teeth chattering. But that didn't last long as she lost her ability to stay aloft and fell to the ground in a shivering heap.

'Simple really. My Rain Dance allowed me to see which of your copies was real, as the rain would fall through the copy and splash against that of the real one. Plus...,' She then turned and looked over her shoulder as I stepped beyond that of foliage that I'd been behind of and entered their battling area.

"I told her." I stated simply as I stood next to Lady Suicune and lightly rested my hand upon her shoulder. This caused Lady Cresselia to stop in her shivering and look up at me with wide/unbelieving eyes.

'You see, Cresselia, Genii swore to be my knight a long time ago and a knight never goes back on his sworn word. So no matter how much you may wish for him to be your knight, he will never betray the one he truly serves.' With that she leaned her head over and gave the back of my hand a rub with her cheek.

'Thi...this cannot be. I a...am sup...superior to you in ev...every way. Why would you serve some bitch like her when y...you could serve someone like me?' She asked as her teeth continued to chatter a bit and her body was wracked by shivers due to much of her body encased in ice.

"Upon the day I evolved into the Gallade that I am today, I swore to watch over and protect Lady Suicune as her knight." I looked down at Lady Suicune to see her smiling back up at me. "To which I have never done for another."

'But w...when you were w...with m...mother Mew, you...' She trailed off as her shiver seemed to prove too much for her to form proper sentences now, and before she could speak further I held up a hand to silence her.

"I said that I would watch over you and protect you, never in that exchange did I say I would be your knight." I looked over at the shivering form of Lady Cresselia and knew that if most of her body wasn't encased in ice that she'd be shedding tears at that moment. "And as proof of my loyalty and my word to that of Lady Suicune here, I have given her my most precious item." Lady Suicune turned her head slightly to the side and showed off the glittering braid that was once her proud mane and with the last vestiges of light did the shards of the Dawn Stone within sparkle in all their brilliance.

'As you can see Cresselia, you have been trying to live out the delusion that Genii here is your own personal knight, when in fact he is mine.' Though before any more could be said I pulled out Lady Cresselia's ball and recalled her to it.

"She'll probably emerge with that of a broken heart, but she needs to realize that you can't live a dream. Not when that dream will end up hurting you and those around you."
