Savannah Blues (14) By Roofles

"So, what's this all about?" Ralph placed the hyena down pulling up a chair from him. The zebra looked over his shoulder at two guys playing pool. They got the picture one slapping the zebra on the back before heading out into the main room.

"Well I mean I thought we'd try this again." Isaac mumbled feeling like he was getting the fifth degree. When he wanted to be grilled by the zebra he didn't want it to be like this. "I was a real prick last time. And well if your not seeing anyone or anything, I had hoped...that I could be that anyone, possible."

"Alphonse didn't set this up did he?" Ralph took a seat across from him. He looked at him with those baby blues before his face fell a bit with a sad amused smile as he watched the hyena.

"No! No, that slimy cretin didn't have anything to do with this. Why do you ask?" Isaac looked at him a bit suspiciously as if he half expected the zebra before him to zip down his front and the mongoose to pop out.

"He called me. This morning. Saying he got a call from a Fred, Fredrick or something about you." Ralph looked at the hyena who shrunk back confirming his own suspicioun. "Look. Hun," he placed a slightly hoofed paw on the hyena hand and leaned a bit closer. "I got a lot of things going on now. School, work. I jumped in before because I was needy, desperate even. But it wouldn't have lasted. And I realize that now. If I did do anything, and although I want too. I couldn't give you or myself the needed attention that we both require. I'd move to fast or to slow and things would fall apart and I don't want to lose you as a friend."

"You really thought this out, huh?" Isaac looked down at the paw. He was probably right and he'd figure the same thing out a month down the road. But even so at least they could have fun. If blindly for a while before reality would come crashing down. He had to admit that wouldn't be good for the man he was these days.

"Sociology major." The zebra shrugged. He had a soft smile on his face and he bent across the table kissing the hyena's cheek. "If we're both single in a few years we'll try it out. Until then, bud. I'll always be here for ya."

"Thanks. Now I'm single." The hyena drooped against the table wondering if what he broke off this morning was worth it. Freddie was nice. But no matter how he strung the fox up he just wasn't physically attracted to him.

Looking at the zebra across from him he groaned closing his eyes and putting his paws over his face. It was the same thing with Colin. Strong, dominate men just turned him on. Finding one that was level headed was going to be a challenge and the only one he knew was the zebra across from him that apparently was taking a vow from dating for a while. "I'm glad to have you as a friend," he mumbled as he felt a paw rub his back. Isaac figured if he played his hand right he could get the zebra to say yes but he wasn't the type to force anyone to do anything. And Ralph was such a sweet guy he couldn't do that to him.

"Well maybe you've been looking in the wrong bunch of furs." Ralph said scooting a bit closer and continueing rubbing his back. "I mean you dated a wild dog,"

"I never dated Jack." Isaac grumbled.

"A lion, a zebra - a damn sexy one at that." Ralph chuckled stupidly. "I mean maybe it's time to broaden your horizons. To look elsewhere. I mean there are several dogs I know that you'd like. I'm not really into knots myself but maybe you'd like that."

"Dog's and me don't get along well."

"Dog's and I," Ralph corrected rolling his eyes. "What about an otter?"

"Too fishy."

"A bear?"

"Too fluffy."

"There's a few rats out there. Oppossums and other such things. You won't know," Ralph interjected before Isaac could argue. "Until you try. You didn't know you were a bottom until now. Unless you try knew things you won't know you like 'em...except woman."

Isaac broke into a grin and that letting out his hyena laugh clamping his muzzle shut. He was becoming a bit hysterical getting himself more and more depressed about it all. But again, he was glad to have Ralph here. Maybe he wasn't the best boyfriend material but he was a damn good friend. "Hehe, so what? You think I should get a net and go fish up an otter? Or climb up a tree for a squirrel?"

"Well how about you just hit the scene again. And see where that goes." Ralph shrugged.

Isaac frowned before rolling his eyes. "I'm not going to another party. I can still taste the vomit."

"Yeah...I had to throw that shirt away." The two remained silent for a little bit. "Well," Ralph pushed himself up. "I should get back to work before Jenny kills me. Oh and hey...we cool?" The zebra forced a smile looking back at him. His eyes were filled with hope bite the tight grip he had on the wall gave away his nerves.

"Yeah, we cool." Isaac got up stretching. "Though you better keep your word with the free booze."

Ralph parted heading back to his work as Isaac strolled down the hall with his paws in his pocket. Coming out of the back room he spied the fox-bat and opossum who had been playing pool. The looked at him. He looked at them and with a nod they headed into the back.

"It's not sticky is it?" The large eyed fox bat asked. Isaac frowned looking at that face. And people thought foxes were cute. He'd eat this bat up if he could, damn adorable little bastard he grumbled before shaking his head.

"No, your fine." Very fine, he mumbled watching the bat head back with a gleeful skip in his step.

Isaac took a seat not feeling up to looking around for people he knew. He didn't even feel like drinking as a beer was placed in front of him. "Give me something fruity," he mumbled as Jenny took the glass and just placed it on the table behind him telling the Yak he was paying for it. The yak didn't protest as she leaned closer to wipe his muzzle with a napkin.

"Dirty boy," she whispered before walking off with the same look she always had. Isaac rolled his eyes watching her go unable to believe anyone would fall for that. Out of the corner of his eye he could see the yak drooling and just shook his head looking at the table in front of him.

He slumped against it with a frown. He wasn't even in the mood to drink. How sad was that? He wasn't one to smoke either so without the booze there wasn't much else to do to take the ease off. Isaac figured he could go back and paw but if he ran into Jack that'd just be awkward and he didn't need that right now. Wondering if he should call the fennec from before...he shook his head. He couldn't believe he did sixty-nine on the first date. If you could even call that a date. Well it was his utmost favorite thing to do but still...

His fingers drummed against the wooden table. He inspected on of his nails. He needed to get them trimmed, evened out. Maybe cleaned. It was never fun to rim someone with a thumb if it was dirty. It was just rude! He wouldn't want that and wouldn't expect it of another.

"They look fabulous, if your wonder." A droll tone of an anteater said taking a seat next to him. The cheetah followed and the striped weasel was next, being dragged by the cat.

"The whole alone vibe didn't reach you, huh?"

"Sorry. Didn't get the memo," Carl shrugged scooting a bit closer.

"And I go where I please." Bix nodded towards the weasel who grumbled as he kept his eye on the prize he was so desperately trying to catch. The rottie was still looking at him with a very sad expression. Pitying the weasel who had been prostrating himself before the dog. "Was getting rejected again."

"Was not." Evan grumbled before slumping in the chair with a loud sigh. "He said I wasn't good enough."

"You weren't good enough? Hard to believe-," Carl began but Isaac cut him off slamming his paws on the table.

"Whoa now! You are good enough for that ball-chaser! Tail lifting, knot humping dog would be lucky to have you." Isaac growled storming over to where the rottie sat. The three watched him go.

Carl was amused by the show of dominance he seemed to be lacking these past couple of days. Bix was worried he was going to be dog chow and not in the good way. And Evan was truly touched that his friend was going to talk to the large, muscular dog that could bench press him on a bad day - on his behalf.

"Hey, you!" Isaac growled jabbing a finger at the dog. The dalmation to his right looked at him rather bored. The golden retriever on his right was checking him. The rottweiler rested his face on a paw and watched him amused. "I don't know what you got up your ass but my friend over there was just trying to ask you out." Isaac pointed back at the weasel who waved sheepishly. "He may be a slimy little worm that more of a hound dog than your friend here," the hyena nodded towards the retriever who grinned. "But you don't just act like a giant prick because you got one!" Isaac wasn't sure exactly what he was argueing about now.

"Cute. Here's my number." The rottie turned the napkin over and scrawled a few numbers across it. "I'm free after five and if you want to grab a bite to eat...and talk about your friend more, that's fine with me."

Isaac took the number truimphantly before strolling back to their table. And as he sat down his ears perked up as he looked at the number, "What did I just agree too?" Evan was still fawning over him with large hopeful eyes that seemed to sparkle as the hyena looked over at the table of three dog's the rottie giving him a wink.
