Chapter Three- The Day After

Matt opened his eyes, crusty yet with sleep and blind with the change of light. Matt and Husky had still been asleep as they were still at the rest area. Nothing seemed to have changed. All was well.

"Suppose I could get rolling. You guys up to it?" Matt whispered to the two that still slept. Husky gave a snort and a whimper in response while Chris just drooled some more, his head laying against the window.

Turning the key and letting the engine purr for a little bit, Matt shifted into "Drive" and headed out to the interstate again. The sun had just risen and the time was just after 6 A.M. Long shadows and dewy grass was seen while Matt in his Grand Prix drove on. The wolf was still tired but kept quiet for the sake of the others. Just another characteristic he has of course. Never bothering the sleeping and always going the extra mile to get where he needs to go as he followed the route to their destination.

By now the sun had well risen and Husky awoke and spoke softly to Matt to keep him company.

Brian was gone and they both asked what happened.

"Where the fuck is he? Did you even check to see if he was in the back with me?" Husky wasn't angry but surprised. Matt had a very scared look on his face before a note was found on when Husky looked around.

"Dear Husky and the gang, I'm sorry I couldnt accomapny you. I had to leave you all. Husky you and I are through. I'm done with us. I wanted to let you know this because I'm not gay. I'm so sorry I didn't tell you before. I have a girlfriend back home and im going to her house now. By the time you read this i should be in her bed. I think its best this way. Your friend Brian.

Apparently Chris was dead to the world still and Matt had to poke him hard to get his lazy ass up.

"You wont beleive what happened. Brian left us and Husky is pissed." Matt said this while Husky handed Chris a hot cup of coffee from Dunkin' Donuts from when they had stopped a little bit back.

"What time is it?" Chris asked wearily as he squinted to look at the clock on the radio. His eyes finally catching the time as Husky pats him on the shoulder, "Time to get up jeeves. And Fuck Brian. Hes dead weight anyway." Husky seemed not to care and let it go. Though now he had other plans.

Chris grumbled for a bit then finally sat upright and talked with Matt. The three were in great spirits and talking of what they wanted to do as soon as they got to the resort. Hoping above all things that it is really really what most other furs have told them.

The day wore on, as did the miles. Husky pointed out the gas gauge being almost on "E". Matt nodded and pulled off into a Texaco gas station. A quick $25 dollars into the tank and she was full again. Matt took it easy down the road up until he got restless and sped up a bit to get away from some asshole drivers.

It was around 4 pm when they had stopped. Famished and needing a bathroom, they walked into the Virginia Family Diner. Yes Virginia. They say it's for lovers and this being seen on the welcome sign on the interstate, the out-of-towner's, Matt and Chris, eyes lit up.

"Uhh...I have to go use the restroom." Looking around slyly, Matt winked at Chris and headed off the cramped restroom. Chris soon followed leaving Husky with a smirk and a $50 bill to order some food.

Half an hour later a musk seemed to find its way over to Husky's nose, telling him the lovers would be back to the booth soon. Matt and Chris showed up right after that thought and looked a little out of breath.

"Wow. Some bathroom." Chris had said blushing a little, his black fur shiny with some sweat while Matt looked utterly content. Though he sat awkward for a few moments before readjusting a bit and getting comfortable.

Husky had taken the liberty of ordering a large pizza with the works. They all ate in peace, not much had to be said being they all know they had to leave soon. The silence, though, hadn't gone unnoticed as Chris looked up, a piece of onion hanging out from his muzzle as he said quite softly, "How long 'till we get there?" Matt and Husky look at each other with the same quizzical look.

"Well I estimated a day or two, though traffic and sleep is a factor. I suppose another night then by noon we'll be there."

Matt was only half listening. His thoughts had turned to home and his warm bed, then to the resort. He looked up and studied the others, seeing the sleepiness in their eyes and the fur that needs to be showered.

Husky was again thinking about what brian had done before he set eyes upon The young wolf walking by.

The young waiter had stopped and asked if they would like their check. Husky looked at the young wolf. He looked just about his own age just frustrated at the moment.

The wolf seemed to have a good build, yet he was gaunt and looked like he could use some more meat. His fur was a brilliant black with brown and tan highlights. Though he wore jeans and a black T-shirt, his apron had a few bills in it that didn't even account for a tip. Husky almost took pity on him until his smile showed that he was content. Or was he?

"I'm Husky and this is Matt and Chris. What's your name?" Husky asked. Matt and Chris talked amongst themselves whispering and giggling. Obviously still talking about their little fun in the rest room.

"Navis Murakumo. Why? Did I do something wrong?" He suddenly looked nervous as if he had done something wrong.

Husky giggled himself and scooted over towards the wall, patting the warm spot he just was sitting in beside where he is now.

"Well Navis, come have a seat. I'm sure your boss won't mind." Husky said this with a somewhat reassuring smile on his muzzle.

The wolf waiter bit his lip before telling husky he'd be right back.

"Let me take care of something first." Navis walked off leaving the check behind. A few seconds' later harsh muffled words were heard. The whole diner seemed to listen in as Navis used every swear in the book some even that no one had existed. After a soft whimpering was heard a loud and menacing growl came from behind the door to the managers office. A minute later Navis walked out without his apron and a large smile on his face, looking quite pleased with himself.

"Now then, I've been meaning to quit for a while now. The money here sucks and so do the people that come in here. Mom wouldn't let me though." Navis sat next to Husky smiling to himself before noticing everyone staring. He looked up and over at Jeff.

"Something I said?" the wolf looked about before Jeff shook his head.

"We wanted to know Navis, well I wanted to know more then those two did. We are going to the new fur resort HotSpot. I wanted to know if ya wanted to join us for the trip down there. Will you?" The look on husky seemed to give Navis the impression that there was more than a trip planned in the husky's mind. He didn't know them at all and here they were asking him to join them on their trip. The wolf thought for a moment and decided it really couldn't do harm. "These guys were nice enough and I need to get away," he thought. Then his eyes lit up and his heart raced a bit. He had nothing in this town. A 15 year old wolf that nobody seemed to give two shits about.

His mother of all people acted that way. She was the complete opposite of him. She was mean, dumb, and most of all...a human. And it was quite a shock to her side of the family, being she had given birth to a baby wolf. Nonetheless, they hated each other and now was his chance to escape from her bitchiness. He had had plans before but after thinking them through he always found a flaw or something changed to make it impossible. Always had something come up to make his plans void. This time he was sure it'll work and he could maybe live with one of these canines. They seemed nice enough.

"Well I suppose I'm due for a vacation."

His mind was filled to the brim with doubt but something about the way Husky smiled made him think it's gonna be worth it.

"Great! And then there were four!" Matt had joked while resting his head on Chris's shoulder.

"Husky, gonna have to let you drive for a bit. I'm dead tired." Matt said through a yawn. Chris figured that this meant more fun in the backseat.

Walking through the parking lot they told Navis to have shotgun.

"Husky? A little obvious ain't it?" Navis looked at Jeff, a smirk out of the corner of his muzzle showed he knew it wasn't Jeff's real name.

"Yea. Those two gave it to me years ago. They thought my real name was too redneckish, too human if you will. I gave in and said it wasn't bad. Kinda suits me well." Chuckling a bit as he reaches the dark red colored Pontiac and jumped into the drivers seat. Matt and Chris get into the backseat and start cuddling a little as Navis gets in the passenger seat and sets it to his preference.

Husky started the engine and looked over to the young wolf beside him, "What about you? Got a nickname?" He was flirting and it was very obvious. He then pulled out of the parking lot and headed southbound again to the interstate.

"A few people have called me 'Timber' but it was a joke. I like it though. What's your real name?"

Husky hit the blinker and got on the on ramp to the highway easing on the throttle and getting the car up to speed before flipping the blinker again and getting into the middle lane. The other two in the backseat were sprawled and stretched out and holding each other in their arms, chest to chest.

"Jeffery Redferd. Named after my grandfather. He was a good man, cared deeply for every living thing." His face was serious. Probably one of the very few times Timber would ever see it like that. Almost resembling a stone face. It stayed in tune with the road. Making sure all his wheels were in the same lane and that his speed wasn't breaking the limit.

Murring soon was heard from the backseat but the two in front blocked it out. Timber was looking out the window and remembered he needed clothes if he was going away forever.

"Mind if we make a little stop at my house? I need money and some other things. Shouldn't be to far off course." He said pointing to a sign that mentioned a certain exit to get off at.

Husky nodded as timber showed him the way to the house. A dirt road seemed to come out of nowhere after going through a maze of back roads. That's when he saw the house, more like a mansion, and gasped at the beautiful land around it. Navis got out and winked before walking up to the front door and walking in.

Five minutes passed. Ten minutes passed. Thirty minutes passed. Husky finally got annoyed and honked the horn. After a few more minutes of waiting in the car, a lady walked out that Husky didn't know at all. She came up to the car and started telling him off like it something was his fault. Then Timber came out, snarling and carrying a duffel bag, a laptop and what appeared to be a sketchbook. He walked up to the car and threw the stuff in the trunk after Husky had opened it. The lady got even more furious and began screeching at the top of her lungs at Timber to get in the house. As calmly as husky had ever seen, Timber smiled and balled up a fist holding it no more than a few inches from the lady's face then raising his middle finger and told her, "Hey mom? Go fuck yourself. Or go fuck that cocksucker you call a boyfriend." Then he climbed back to his seat in the front and husky floored it before the woman could reach for rocks in the driveway to throw at Matt's car.

"Who the hell do you think you are!?!?! GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE!!!!" timber mother screamed before charging into the house and slamming the door shut. Her fury went straight to the liquor cabinet where she took out the large crystal jug of brandy and poured a very large glass that still had some in it before Timber showed up.

"Damn Timber! What the hell was that about?" Husky asked after getting back on pavement. His ears perked up and he listened hard as timber told him his tale of how his mother drank and constantly put him down when he did everything right.

"My mom...She's a bitch. I just couldn't take it anymore. I want to thank you though. Thanks for getting me away from her Jeff-"

"Call me Husky. Please." Husky then smiled and placed a paw on Timbers shoulder. He gripped it a bit then let go as he headed back on the highway.

After some time the sky grew dark and Timber fell asleep against the window. Husky drove on and had some music playing soft enough as to not disturb anyone else as he kept awake and went towards the southland. Another sign he passed had read "WELCOME! To North Carolina, please keep our state clean." Soon after they were again putting miles behind them along with their old lives.
