Just a furry mutant story written within an hour. I have plans for it :)

((Alright, so this is the new short story I'm working on starring my oh so wonderful male companion and I. The next few chapters will be... Much better ;3))

In the dark recesses of the worn down apartment stirred the sounds of a waking creature. Its horns were pointed and long, jagged yet symmetrical. Pale grey eyes opened up, soon bringing a ball of light near. With a strained yawn, the jackalope named Desmond awoke. His body looked rather disproportionate; ears slightly too big along with the antlers on top with a small body to suit. The boy stepped down onto the ground, rubbing his eyes as his summoned ball of light flew around the room, inspecting every crevice that housed darkness. He shuffled around the room, pulling on a pair of shorts over his boxers that he slept in as well as carefully pulling on a wife beater. Out of his daily agenda, getting dressed and undressed were the hardest things due to his antlers. Once he was dressed for his casual day around the apartment, the front door made a few clicks, swinging open as a canine carried in a potato sack filled with something mysterious. The jackalope was used to this, however.

"Ahhh. Good. You're up. I managed to swipe a few things for breakfast and maybe even a dinner." The man said, taking off his hat and scarf to reveal his black hair atop tanned fur. Desmond dragged his clawed feet over to the counter, searching the sack for anything that felt appetizing.

"I thought you weren't gonna 'swipe' anymore. Don't we still have money left over from the last guy I pushed?" He asked, digging out a bagel. He was about to take a bite before the wolf snatched it with his own mouth, rendering a glare from the jackalope. The wolf took hold of it from his mouth after chewing a bite off.

"Well, what can I say? Old habits die hard." He snickered, nodding to the jackalope. Desmond shook his head as he pulled out a banana, frowning a bit as he took a bite. At least it was nutritious.

"Of course... What is the infamous Callahan to do if he can't pickpocket something every two days?" Desmond asked rhetorically. Ryker Callahan was a master pickpocket with his telekinesis. It was rather remarkable to watch, since no one would notice something was missing until they were looking for it. Ryker had quite the bounty on his head until he met Desmond. The jackalope had a way with words and people, besides being able to conjure light at will. His words persuaded Ryker's pursuers to look elsewhere; Guatemala, to be exact.

"Hey. It's been four days to be precise. You can't expect me to stop all together. That's just crazy."

"Whatever. As long as I don't have to push anymore people that hard again. You don't even understand how hard that was!" The jackalope whined, causing the wolf to grin.

"But you'll push studs into giving you money?" He asked wickedly. Desmond's eyebrows furrowed at the question.

"We needed money. How else are we gonna get some if we both don't work?" Desmond replied, the frustration clear in his voice. At the sound, Ryker got up as he walked over to the jackalope, reaching in the sack to pull out a Heath bar for him. He knew it was the boys favorite snack.

"We've been getting by the same way for over a year now. Don't worry about it." Ryker smiled as he wove the candy bar in front of Desmond. The smaller male stared at the bar and then back to Ryker before snatching it from his hand, grabbing his sweater as he walked to the door.

"You're such a dick." He called out to the wolf as he opened the front door to the apartment.

"Don't go out yet. There were rumors of humans being seen around. I don't want you going out there if it's that dangerous." Ryker called out, concern in his voice as he stepped towards his fuming companion. Desmond looked sternly at his friend, eyes narrowing a bit.

"If I can handle throwing off a wannabe mafia to some place in butt-fuck nowhere, I'm pretty sure I can handle a group of humans." He said, opening the door before stepping out. Ryker followed him outside the room, standing on the balcony as he watched his friend walk off.

"Wait up." He yelled to the jackalope as he looked in the room, eyeing the bag before sending it across the room into the refrigerator. With that, he took off after Desmond, closing the door behind him and locking it without the key.

After a few minutes, the wolf caught up the jackalope, walking beside him as he listened to the crunches and nibbles of the toffee candy. Desmond made every effort in his mind not to push Ryker away, his fingers digging into his side within his sweaters pocket. Ryker walked beside him, looking over occasionally to see if he could catch a glimpse of Desmond faltering in his attempt of being truly mad.

"C'mon Desi, let's just go home and relax. You can even pick the movie!" Ryker said with enthusiasm, reaching over to put his paw on Desmond's shoulder. The jackalope shrugged it away, walking on still.

"Why are you still following me? Go away." He said, still not looking to his friend. Ryker kept on walking with him.

"Because I know you don't really want me to go." Ryker said, keeping up with Desmond as he tried to walk faster. Suddenly the boy stopped, turning to Ryker as he glared.

"And how do you know that, might I ask?" Desmond glared again, eyes like daggers. His fists shook inside his pockets.

"Cause if you did, you'd have pushed me already. Probably would have long ago." Ryker said, looking Desmond in the eyes. The boy averted his glare as he spoke.

"You know why I don't push you away..." Desmond sighed, shivering a bit more from his emotions. Ryker nodded, stepping close as he wrapped his arms around the smaller male. The two stood there for a few moments before Desmond's arms wrapped back around his companions.

"I know. I respect that you don't. It actually makes me feel more trusting." Ryker snickered as he weaved his head around the antlers in his face. After accomplishing the maneuver, he placed a kiss on Desmond's head, which got an immediate reaction.

"I don't understand why you like getting me so worked up." He grumbled into the wolves' chest, calming down in the embrace. As Ryker was about to answer, Desmond's ear twitched at a sound he caught in the distance. His head shot back as he looked into the darkness as Ryker held his face, having been slapped with antlers. After another noise, Desmond shot out a light into the woods to try and see what was there.

"You catch something on those satellite dishes of yours?" Ryker joked, watching the jackalope move to the woods.

"Shut up... There's something over there." He said, pointing to the trees in the back as his light approached it. He couldn't see what was there, but it unnerved him and he absolutely had to get an answer. As soon as his foot stepped onto the grass heading into the woods, a paw grabbed his shoulder.

"Des... Don't go in there. Like I said earlier, we should probably go back home." Ryker said, seriousness taking hold again. Desmond looked back to him and then to the woods.

"Well... If you say so..." The jackalope said as he turned around, about to get out of the grassy area before he felt a tug on his ankle. He looked down in confusion, noticing a thin wire tie around his leg as he suddenly felt a harsh pull. He instantly let out a cry as his light went out with his panic and fall to the ground, disappearing into the woods.

"Desmond!" Ryker called out as he went in after Desmond, following the drag marks and yelping. After a few more frantic calls out, Desmond's light ball formed again, making a spark to light up the inner woods for Ryker. In that instant, the wolf charge forward, eyes darting around to look for where his friend went.

"Desmond! Where are you?!" He called out to the light, following it as he spotted a branch, pulling it to him as he held it in front of him like a club. He heard a squeak and grunt as he turned, seeing a clearing where Desmond was struggling against a group of five humans. Ryker's eyes narrowed as he charged at them, watching as Desmond squirmed in their hold.

"Ryker!" Desmond managed to cry out after biting one of his captors' hands over his mouth, kicking and squirming, trying to use his antlers to the best of his abilities. That's when his hero came charging through, cracking a branch over one of his captors' head. With another limb free, Desmond kicked and pulled himself free enough to land on the ground, which was what he needed.

"Duck!" He shouted out as Ryker did so, the humans unaware of their self defense plan. Desmond raised his arms up into the air, his light ball hovering over him as the humans stared at it in confusion, one actually smart enough to flee. With the clenching of his hands, Desmond's light started to build up, becoming brighter before suddenly erupting with a bang and a burst of light, stunning the few that kept staring. Desmond used the moment to crawl over to Ryker as his companion started to fight, punching a dazed man off into the woods with the help of his power. The last two he pinned to the nearest trees, glaring at them both as they came out of their daze.

"What do you assholes want?" He growled, glaring each one down. Desmond came up behind him, looking at both the humans as he looked them over. All he could gather from their minds were that they were serving under the one who fled, a person with a personal vendetta against the mutants and anthros. He turned around to see the one Ryker punched into the bushes start to come at them with a knife drawn. Desmond stared at him, his grey eyes turning white as the man stopped right in front of him, putting down the knife.

"Now go home." He commanded the man, which he started to do, heading off into the direction in which his home must have been. Desmond turned back to Ryker's two victims as he put his paw on his arm.

"Hold on..." He said to the wolf as he looked the woman in the eyes, giving her the same instructions as she still struggled to be let down. The other male couldn't be reached, as much as Desmond tried.

"I... Can't get in... There's something blocking me." Desmond said as he started to rub his forehead, feeling it throb in an oncoming headache. The man snickered at the two of them.

"So not only are they mutants, but they're faggots. Of course." He laughed, shaking his head. "All the more reason you pieces of shit deserve to be-". He was about to finish before Ryker slammed him against the tree angrily. Desmond tugged on Ryker's sleeve as he threw the man around a bit between two trees, the man practically a ping pong ball. The man lay crumpled on the ground, beaten to a pulp as the jackalope stared in shock, watching the wolf telekinetically take the man's belongings. Ryker lead Desmond out of the forest then after taking the knife that the human had dropped.

"You should've let me deal with the other two Des..." Ryker said, not looking down at the smaller male at his side now.

"I know... But... Needless bloodshed just..." He started before Ryker grabbed his shoulders, turning him to look straight into his eyes again.

"There are no buts, Desi! Humans only want to kill us! They were going to... Kill you." He growled. The pain was written on his face. Desmond's lip quivered a bit as he nodded, accepting the sad truth.

"I'm sorry... I should have listened." Desmond said, hanging his head low. Ryker sighed as he wrapped his arm around his companion.

"Let's just get inside before you become another damsel in distress, alright?" He said sarcastically, guiding the smaller male towards the apartments.
