Rye risked rejection and when he wakes up the next morning, he still finds it hard to believe what had happened. No school, no work, the otters are able to relax and spend the day together.

A bird tweeting outside the open window caused Rye to wake. With the haze of the dreams still covering Rye, he felt despair, thinking that last night was all a dream. It only took him a couple seconds to realize that his face was buried in white fur and he looked up to see Cloud grinning down at him.

"Morning sleepy," Cloud said, holding back a giggle.

Rye pulled away from Cloud's chest where his head was just resting at and he blinked a few times to look at Cloud again. "G'morning," he finally said. Although the memories came back to him, Rye was still slightly disorientated. He wasn't used to this.

Cloud laughed. "You got cold last night so I tried to keep you warm."

Part of Rye's heart melted at the flattering gesture, and he smiled. "Thank you, Cloud." Rye stretched his neck and kissed Cloud on the cheek, and giggled. "I'm not used to this at all, but it's is absolutely wonderful."

"You're not used to it?" Cloud laughed in a slight mocking way. "I guess we share that in common. I've never woken up with another boy in the same bed." Cloud paused, letting Rye caress his cheek gently with his paw, before he looked down at his body and fur. "I really need to shower. I really do look like a giant cotton ball!"

Rye chuckled. He didn't notice, but found the fluffy fur of Cloud comfortable. Then he realized how fluffy he must look like and looked down at himself. "Oh," he said shocked. He forgot that neither of them were wearing any clothes, and they didn't have a blanket over them either. "Well, okay. I'll shower after you then."

"You don't want to shower with me?" Cloud asked smiling crookedly.

"Don't you think it's a bit too early to shower together?" Rye laughed.

"Doesn't hurt to ask," Cloud laughed with Rye. "If you change your mind. . . " Cloud got up and headed toward the shower.

Rye watched him leave without looking away from Cloud's naked body this time. Cloud didn't bother shutting the bathroom door as he stepped in the shower and turned it on, closing the shower door behind him. Rye relaxed, lying back down on his bed and stared at the ceiling in deep thought.

Wow, he thought. Cloud is so amazing. He's everything I ever wanted. I can't believe I woke up with him beside me. . . With him holding me like that. We kissed last night. We really kissed. Oh, he was so sweet and gentle.

Rye's smile grew as he thought about his recent memories but soon his thoughts were interrupted by a growl in his stomach.

"Stupid hunger," Rye muttered and he decided to get up. He pulled on a clean pair of boxer shorts before he headed toward the kitchen. From the fridge, he got out eggs and sausage. "A classic breakfast," again muttering while Rye started to toast some bread.

Rye was cooking extra for Cloud but the food wasn't done when Cloud snuck behind Rye and put his arms around Rye's waist, snuggling to him.

Rye jumped at first, shocked and not used to the physical contact. He heard Cloud chuckle under his breath and Rye smiled. "Feel better now?" Rye asked.

"Mhmm," Cloud hummed. Cloud was pressing his ear up to Rye's back, listening to his heartbeat between his shoulder blades.

Rye struggled to restrain himself from turning around and pouncing on Cloud while he continued to cook the breakfast. "I hope you're hungry," Rye said.

Cloud stood up to his full height and looked over Rye's shoulder. "Smells good," Cloud commented. His paws didn't move from around Rye's lower stomach, and he kissed Rye gently on the cheek. "I'm still new to this too."

"You're the one touching me," Rye giggled. "You don't have to do it if it makes you feel uncomfortable. It's going to take a while for me to get used to this kind of touch."

Cloud giggled softly in Rye's ear. "I'm nervous and shy, but it's worth it."

Rye grinned. It took him only a few seconds, under the careful watch of Cloud, for him to put the food on two separate plates. Cloud finally let go of Rye's waist and took a step back when Rye grabbed both plates and spun on his heel. After following Cloud to the table, Rye kissed Cloud on the cheek once and sat down behind his own plate of food.

"You're a wonder at cooking," Cloud said smelling the food. He picked up a piece of toast and bit into it.

Hoping, praying that Cloud would like his food, Rye carefully watched Cloud take his first bite. Cloud savored the flavor and smiled. "I'll be coming to your place for breakfast from now on."

Rye laughed. "I'm so glad you like it," he said and started to eat his own food. "What do want to do today?" Rye asked after swallowing a bite of sausage.

"Whatever you want to do today," Cloud answered, wolfing down his breakfast.

"That's not fair," Rye said smiling. "That's what I was going to say if you asked me that question."

"Well, I beat you to it," Cloud said in a mock-stubborn attitude. Rye laughed again, and Cloud laughed with him.

"I . . ." Rye started to say. "It's so weird to say this out loud. I want to just spend time with you, whatever we're doing."

"That's exactly what I was thinking," Cloud smiled.

"Well, today the pool is close," Rye said thinking of the opportunities. "You wouldn't believe how much fur gets in the filters from the parties."

"I can only imagine," Cloud commented, and laughed.

"I do need to buy some more food though," Rye said practically to himself.

"Oh good," Cloud said finishing his breakfast in record time. "You can show me where I can buy some good food around here."

Rye laughed. "You can always come over here if you're hungry. You don't even need to buy food. I'll buy it all for you."

"That won't be necessary, especially if I get a job at the pool. But I can't resist your skill at cooking." Cloud finished his plate and he licked his teeth clean. "I'd usually pay fifteen bucks for that quality of a meal."

"You're just saying that," Rye muttered as he grabbed both plates placed them in the sink. He turned on the water, before he felt Cloud pull on his tail and pull him away from the sink.

"You don't seriously think you're going to wash those, do you?" Cloud asked, pulling Rye further away from the sink by the tail.

"Well--" Rye was about to explain that he was the host. Cloud let go of his tail when Rye was near the edge of the counter that separated the kitchen from the living room, but then Cloud pushed gently on Rye's shoulder blades toward the living room.

"No," Cloud said stubbornly. "Not after you cooked me that breakfast, I get to at least wash the dishes. You go shower, you're fluffier than I ever was."

Rye smiled, again feeling his heart melt. "Okay, if you say so." Rye started to walk toward the bathroom but again felt Cloud holding onto his tail. "Something else you wanted?"

"Kiss?" Cloud asked innocently.

Rye grinned, and leaned into Cloud, pressing his lips against Cloud's softly. Cloud returned the kiss, and Rye started to make himself comfortable with Cloud when Cloud broke the kiss only after a couple short seconds.

"Go shower fluff-ball," Cloud commanded, grinning.

Disappointed, but amused, Rye smiled and went back to the bathroom to shower. The otter rushed the shower, eager to get back to Cloud. In less than three minutes, Rye was already out of the shower, drying off with a towel. Still damp and wet, Rye wrapped a fresh towel around his waist and headed toward the kitchen. However, Cloud was waiting for him inside his bedroom.

"That was that fastest shower I've ever seen any otter take," Cloud said, with a crooked smile.

Rye laughed. "All the good groceries are on sale in the morning."

"Right," Cloud said, disbelieving Rye's excuse for a hurried shower. "Come on, let's get you dressed."

Rye hesitated and blushed, shy of being naked in front of the otter.

"I've seen you naked before Rye," said Cloud after noticing the otter's hesitation. "I also caught you peeking at me a couple times too in the locker rooms at the pool."

Rye blushed heavier and gave a nervous and embarrassed laugh. "I-I didn't know you noticed."

"Come on otter," Cloud again said, gesturing toward the drawers.

Rye obeyed. Standing next to Cloud as the white otter sifted through the drawers and picked out one of Rye's best outfits, Rye still felt shy. After a moment of protest, Rye allowed Cloud to remove his towel. The white otter only giggled when he looked up and down Rye's naked body.

Hastily, Rye dressed himself, cheeks still burning from the blush. "Okay, are you ready to go?" Rye asked.

"Yes, yes," Cloud answered, still grinning. Rye finally noticed that Cloud was dressed from clothes in Rye's own drawers. He smiled, happy that Cloud liked his clothes enough to wear them as well.

Their grocery shopping trip turned out more fun than Rye or Cloud would have thought. They both realized that they had similar taste in the general foods, neither really liking junk food or caffeine-loaded drinks. Unaware that the other was doing the same thing, they both made mental notes when one otter said that they loved a certain food.

It was only noon when they arrived back, both armed with bags of groceries.

"You don't like cookies but you like ice cream?" Cloud asked trivially, walking to the counter near the refrigerator.

"Yes," Rye answered setting the bags down and beginning to put them away. "If you haven't noticed, we live in a tropical city and it gets hot here."

"I always did sweat when you were around," Cloud admitted helping organizing the groceries. "It's kind of weird to think we've known each other for a week. It seems like it's been months. Don't you think it's a bit early?"

"No, of course not," Rye grabbed the ice cream and set it aside, and then he threw away the paper bags. "I had a crush on you the moment I saw you. I've read internet profiles about people who hook up the minute they read the other's first email. That's not love. Most of those people confuse love with lust, and don't understand the difference between a friend and a flatterer."

"I don't think I've read anything like that but I guess you're right. I, too, thought you were very cute when I caught you staring at me last Monday."

Rye chuckled. "You noticed, huh?"

"I think the entire cafeteria noticed," said Cloud laughing. Putting away the last of the groceries, the white otter stood by and watched Rye scoop ice cream in a bowl.

"Do you want some?" Rye asked politely turning to Cloud.

"No thanks," Cloud politely refused with a smile. "Well, what do you want to do now?"

"I'll play you at Halo 3," Rye suggested, carefully setting the ice cream in the freezer. "I'm unbeatable at it."

"You said you were unbeatable at the laser tag games."

Rye laughed. Setting down the bowl of ice cream on the coffee table, Rye prepared the game and Cloud watched from his seat on the couch. Soon Rye joined Cloud on the couch and armed himself with a controller. Cloud lied down and rested on Rye's lap, while looking at the television screen.

"I don't want to compete with you," Cloud said when the main menu flashed on the screen. "Can we play on cooperative mode?"

"Sure," Rye said and changed the settings. With a final click of a button, the game started to load and Rye allowed himself to take a bite from his ice cream. With the game still loading, he set the ice cream back down and looked down at Cloud resting on his lap. Gently, he caressed Cloud's cheek.

Cloud giggled. "That tickles. Come on boy, the game is starting."

Rye laughed and picked his controller back up and began playing the video game. Between areas of interest in the game, Rye ate his ice cream until the bowl was depleted. For several minutes, the two otters struggled with the mission but their gameplay was interrupted by Rye's phone ringing.

Pausing the game, Cloud allowed Rye to get up.

"Hello?" Rye answered the phone.

"Rye? Do you have time? I really need someone to talk to?"

"Marian? Yeah, sure. What's wrong?"

Rye returned to the couch with the phone over his ear. Cloud looked at him with concern but Rye just shook his head and gestured for Cloud to lie back down in his lap. Cloud hesitated only for a moment before he lied back on Rye's lap but stared up at Rye instead of the screen this time.

"You know Annie? How we have always been close? She was asked out by Greg at the party, and she said yes. I know that I never took the initiative to ask her out but I still liked her, you know? I liked how things were, and I was being a friend but I feel sort of betrayed."

"Greg? Well Marian, you know that most people prefer to date close to their own species." Cloud smiled at the truth of the statement. "It may be hard to accept but if Annie is happy with Greg, you shouldn't get involved."

"I know, I know. I want her to be happy but . . . damn. My heart feels like it tore into two pieces."

For a few minutes Rye counseled the ferret on the other end of the telephone before Marian finally thanked Rye and said goodbye. Rye hung up the phone too and set it on the table, picking the controller back up and un-pausing the game.

"What was that about?" Cloud asked turning back to the game.

"You know Marian? The ferret?" Rye asked. Cloud nodded. "He always had a crush on Annie but she was asked out by Greg, the tiger, who I gave a ride to the party, and he was devastated."

"Why'd he call you though?"

"Most of the students do because, apparently, I listen and give helpful advice. I don't think so but I share my opinions nevertheless."

Cloud giggled. "You big teddy bear you. I'd do the same thing though if we weren't always spending time together; I'd call you just to hear your beautiful voice."

Rye blushed and chuckled. "I'm not that great. Come on now, we still have a mission to accomplish."

For several missions, Rye and Cloud played the video game. The rest of the day they spent playing video games, or watching movies until finally the day started to grow darker and they both remembered that they had school tomorrow.

"I really don't want to go to school tomorrow," Rye muttered, no longer paying attention to the movie that they were watching. He held onto Cloud's arms tightly, which were wrapped around Rye's chest.

"I don't either," Cloud agreed. He was lying behind Rye, looking over his shoulder absent-mindedly staring at the television screen. "Especially since we only have two classes together."

"Yeah," Rye muttered. "I wish we could skip school."

"Me too. But we need to go. We can't skip every day."

"I know," Rye sighed. His gaze dropped to Cloud's paws that were holding Rye tightly.

"So," Rye started, finding the question that he was trying to ask ridiculous. "Are we, like, officially . . . boyfriends now?"

Cloud chuckled. "Yeah, I guess we are. I don't want to share you."

Rye laughed and fell silent for a few seconds. "Cloud . . . my . . . boyfriend," he muttered to himself, although he knew Cloud could hear him well enough.

"My Rye," Cloud said, hugging Rye tighter. "My little grain of life."

Rye laughed. "Is that supposed to be a joke about my name?"

Cloud chuckled. "Lame, I know. I couldn't think of anything else."

"Not lame," Rye turned around in Cloud's arms so he was now face-to-face with him. "It was cute." Rye kissed the white otter that held him so closely.
