Grey's Adventures by Callum E Hancock

Chapter One: What are Friends for?

It is a Monday morning. Bleeding Mondays, worst day of the week. The sun is just rising up over the gentle rolling hills. Near a large deciduous forest is a small red brick cottage that is the home to very misunderstood character. Inside a maroon walled bedroom. There is a double bed with a white wall design on the duvet & snoozing away underneath is a seven foot tall sergal whose feet & tail poke out at the bottom of the bed. Soon, an alarm plays Pink Floyd's Time. Only the ticking is playing right now but suddenly the chiming clocks blare out & the sergal literally leaps out of bed with his fur standing on end from the shock. He realises it's the alarm & grumbles. "Chose a nice random track for this mornin' like 'asn't it?", he mumbles as he goes across the bed to turn it off. His accent would suggest that he comes from the county of Yorkshire in Northern England. He stretches his naked, furred form as he neatens the duvet & yawns, walking out of the bedroom & into the bathroom. He looks out of the window over to see the sun's early rays creep across the frost covered fields & trees. He purr as the soothing warmth goes over his fur. It is off-white on the muzzle, chin, chest, stomach, hands, feet, tail tip & under-tail where-as the rest is coloured in various shades of grey. He has dark grey patches around his eyes as well as his lower legs, forearms & an area of his tail between the mid-grey base & off-white tip. His eyes change colour but the general colour is always silver. He yawns as he turns on the shower, getting into it & letting the water soak into his fur, purring from the nice warm feeling it gives him. He leans down to grab a large bottle of shampoo & conditioner to squeeze into his hand so he can lather it up in his fur, working it in & getting rid of any matts he finds with his claws. A couple of spots are in sensitive areas to he yelps a bit. A human girl pokes her head in, same age as Grey, 18. She was about five foot six inches & wore tight black skinny jeans, doc marten boots & a guns 'n' roses hoodie on top of an Iron Maiden shirt. Her accent has quite a Scottish note to it.

"Mornin' Grey" she'd say poking her head into the bathroom, not really minding the fact the sergal behind the curtain was showering

"Eyup Jackie lass"

"What d'you fancy for breakfast like?"

"Ooh, question. Errr.." he thinks as he grumble from finding yet another matt in his fur, "Ah'll 'ave a bacon butty ta. 'ere, thee took a while to come up?"

"Oh, sorry Grey, was havin' a roll-up"

"Aye alright", he turns off the shower & reaches out from the curtain, "Could thee fetch towel from cupboard?" She chuckles & grabs a large, black towel from the cupboard on the landing.

"I'm meant to be your friend & house mate, not your fuckin' wife". She hands the towel to his hand then Grey takes the towel from her & starts drying himself in the shower,

"Well thee's out there, ah'm in here. Ooh, 'ow's t'at lass of thi's?"

"Oh what? Janine? Aye, we had a good date like"

"Good crack?", he chuckles

"Good crack aye. Thanks for introducin' us like. Never dated a dragoness before"

"Well? Was it a good experience bein' wi' her though?"

"Well, it was... different. She kept huggin' me & her tail managed to get in my jeans & my scants!!"

"Sounds like she were up for it", he chuckles as he gets out of the shower with the towel around his waist.

"Aye. Kissing was different too. Did you know she had a forked tongue?"

"Thought it would be a nice surprise like"

"& she was a lot taller than I thought. Must of been seven foot at least"

"Naw she's a tad smaller than t'at"

"Well, I was kind of scared of her but she was was quite the gentle giant like" she laughs

"Affectionate were she?"

"VERY. She couldn't stop kissing or hugging but that could be due to the bottle of Jack we had"

"JD wi' a bottle o' JD eh?"

"Aye"

"Where is she then?"

"Back at her place. I got a taxi to get back 'ere"

"How much did it cost like?"

"About seven dollars"

"Righty 'o. Ah'll pay when ah get..."

"Oh it's alright, she gave me money"

"Awww, t'at were nice of 'er like"

"Aye. Anyway, I'll be downstairs. Ah'right?"

"Grand", Grey smiles as he puts on his Ian Dury ear rings before heading back in his room to get dressed. He slips on a pair of faded black jeans on top of a pair of black elesticated boxers shorts. He looks at the mirror on his wardrobe door to look over his neatly muscled torso with a satisfied purr & a smile. He was always proud of his body, which is one of the main reasons he wears tight fitting t-shirts. His chosen shirt today is one of the Alice Cooper variety, reading 'Take a look at my face I am the Future' in red on the black cloth of the shirt. He then walks to his door & takes off his black leather overcoat. Thanks to Jackie, she had put on some patches & studs for him. He had rows of studs on the shoulders, a large Iron Maiden banner on his upper back, Ian Dury & the Blockheads logo on his right top pocket, Metallica logo on his left & two pink Floyd patches on his arms, Marching hammers on the right, Dark side of the moon on the left. After another check with the mirror, he puts on his dark green flat cap then heads out of the room downstairs.

Once he gets down the stairs, he heads towards the kitchen at the back of the house. Jackie was already cooking something. The bacon aroma finds its way up Grey's nostrils, causing his eyes to close slightly & him to purr.

"Sommat smells good", he smiles at Jackie who turns her head back to see him

"Aye, bacon butty will do you won't it man?", she asks

"O' course lass". He heads over to the side & puts the kettle on to boil, taking the coffee & sugar jars out of the cupboard above. He also takes a couple of mugs from another cupboard, one with a white Ford Capri silhouette on a black background & the other with Ian Dury lyrics, again on a black background, reading 'Good evening, I'm from Essex, in case you couldn't tell. My given name is Dickie, I come from Billericay & I'm doin'... Very well'. It only takes him a few minutes to make the two coffees & place them down on the table. At that moment, Jackie places the bacon sandwiches in front of them & they start eating.

"Doin' owt today Jackie?". The human girl nods in reply to the sergal male's question, still with a bit of sandwich in her mouth.

"Aye, seein' Janine later. Taking me out somewhere after College", her phone starts vibrating & she reads the text received, "It's Vicki, she's giving me shite again".

"Thee gonna be a'right?", he asks as she starts shaking her head then going into tears. He comes over & gives her a warming hug. "Aww lass, let it out", he rubs her back & gives a light nuzzle into her neck

"I've just given so much love to her & this is how she treats me. She's such an immature little bitch & I just wish she'd leave me alone!", he bursts into more tears & they run down her cheek then into Grey's fur.

"Thee's so much better than 'er lass. She's still doin' odd jobs to get cash & thee's in college, learning & developin' into sommat more. Don't let her get thee down".

"Aye", she nods, sniffing away her tears as Grey pulls back, looking into her eyes with a kindly smile.

"Want me t' claw her eyes out?", they both laugh a little, Jackie still sniffing.

"Naw you're a'right man. Thanks"

"No bother", he smiles again & sits back in his seat & they continue to have breakfast. Jackie sighs & rests her forhead on her hand.

"God I'm such a whining bitch. Here's me cryin' in front of you man &..."

"Listen lass. What are friends for? Apart from keepin' eachother company, we look out for eachother & offer shoulders t' cry on"

"Aye, I guess you're right Grey. You're a right pal, shame not many folk actually like you"

"Well, there's a lot of tasteless folk out there", they laugh again & the sergal sips his coffee.

"Too true. I'll have to take you to that Gay bar at some point, get you out of that social club"

"Aye, t' social club t'at is anythin' but social. Which gay bar thee on about though?"

"It's called 'The Hide'. Supposedly to make the place more discreet so those anti gay folk don't raid it which is why you can't see the bright lights from outside"

"Aye. Makes sense. Right, drink & eat up, let's 'ead for college"

"Good plan. I'll get my baky"

"Aye a'right", He smiles as he heads out of the house to the outbuilding at the bottom of the garden with a small gravel drive way coming out of some large double doors. He opens them & inside is his pride & joy, a Dagenham built right-hand drive 1976 Ford Capri II 2.0 S in Midnight Blue with Silver Decals & black vinyl roof & number plates reading 'S3R G4L'. He smiles & rubs the front offside wing.

"Eyup darlin', had a good night sleep". He slips into the driver's seat & starts up the gorgeous exhaust note. May only be a two litre four cylinder engine but it's enough to keep him happy. He puts the car into first gear & rolls it out of the garage just as Jackie walks down the garden with their bags & wearing her lonsdale beanie hat & her own studded leather jacket. She closes the garage doors & puts the two bags in the boot before coming up to the near side door & slipping into the seat.

"House is locked, as is the garage. We're ready to go"

"Grand, put a CD on will thee?", the sergal asks the human as he gets the Capri rolling up the drive to the road while Jackie puts a CD into the autochanger in the glove box. Soon, they are greeted by the sound of Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins as they head down the road at a fair pace, twisting & turning on the corners of these American roads, passing classic pick ups & massive lorries & making the small coupe shake a bit from the wind rush for a few seconds as they headed to the town.
