Immortal Season 2 - Chapter 20 - Commander Xoltan

Halo was in Chaos. Without their commanders Sectors had to rely on the orders of other commanders. Many of them didn't know how to use the specialized skills of the other Sectors. Ligeron stayed safe inside the temple rubbing his still flat belly. He closed his eyes tightly as he lay in bed trying to find Andreas. His power could not penetrate that deeply into the darkness of hell.

Salamander sat at his side and Titan watched over the great stairs. Neptune and Luna spent their time trying to get the circles in order. It was daytime so the bridges through Oblivion were much larger. No hunters could enter so they took this time to prepare. "I sense Artemis," Ligeron kept his eyes closed and coughed softly. "Is she fighting?" Salamander asked his barriers bring them some water. "No she has finished her fight, she unleashed her first stage Yansei, Jikko Keimusho Mankai," Ligeron tried to glance deeper. "I also sense...Cerce and an old enemy," He opened his eyes. "Xoltan..." Salamander looked at him. In the desert violence Wendigo chased after Maia. She quickly ran out of stamina and unable to run forever. Tripping she rolled down a sand dune. Wendigo stopped on the top of the dune and stared down at her. "Guess I'm out of running room," She pulled out her crossbow. Wendigo lunged forward and dived at her. Raising the crossbow she fired multiple shots the beast weaving between them. He roared and dove his claws into the ground. They would have pierced her chest if she hadn't moved.

Growling he swiped at her repeatedly. His razor sharp claws got ever closer to her flesh. Her shirt began to tear and shred from his slashes. Her knapsack suddenly fell and he roared. His claws caught her crossbow and tossed it away into the dunes. Without that weapon she was helpless. Raising his hand she screamed and the small dragon jumped from behind her hair.

A plume of sand let out around them instantly. As it cleared Maia could see Wendigo's hands being held back by a great green shield. A human man before her covered in green scale armor. A long sword clutched in his hand as he raised his shield. Black hair trailed down from his scale line around his face. "Who?...What are you?" Maia asked as he forced Wendigo back and defended her. "My name is Draco Solider number 172, Guardian of Halo," He spoke and smiled at her. "Are you the dragon?" She asked and got up onto her feet. "Yes...usually I can't take my protective form without permission from my creator, but for some reason my will to protect you was enough to force the change," He explained and Wendigo charged. Slamming his claws into his shield he forced Draco back. Swiping his sword he slashed him across the chest. "Foul beast! You shall not harm Miss Maia," He dove his sword through Wendigo's chest.

With a loud gasp Wendigo seemed defeated. Until his eyes looked down suddenly at the man and he slid his claws down behind his shield and tore it off his arm. Jumping back he took his sword from his hand. The decaying elk reached up and pulled the blade from his body and growled. "Miss Maia, Please run...I will not allow you to be harmed, I can hold him off just long enough for you to escape," He begged her. "No I won't leave you behind!" She pushed herself up intent on fighting with him.

"Please...Miss Maia, I am created to protect...do not let my sacrifice go in vain," He ran forward. Maia gasped and in a moments decision she turned and ran away. She could hear the monster growling and roaring as she managed to get a good distance away. Suddenly she heard him scream and she looked back. About to cry she gripped her fists. Without her crossbow she was too weak to help her friend. She had made it to the seventh ring of Hell simply to be hunted. Standing on a vast flat stretch of land the monster appeared before her again. "I won't run again," She stood her ground. With a soft growl he walked forward, she had accepted her fate and wasn't going to let another get hurt because of her. "Please just make it fast," She begged as tears fell.

The monster didn't reply and she looked up. He had turned away from her at the two figures in the distance. His lipless jaws quivered as he watched them draw near. "I...I know them," She stared around him. Yoko's feet dug deep into the sand as he held an umbrella over his master. Guarding him from the sun he also sprayed his softly with water to keep him moist. Cerce hissed softly behind his mask and the two stopped fifty feet from the beast. "So I thought I would find you here...You pathetic enough to be found in this horrid place," Cerce laughed behind his mask.

"I know you..." Wendigo gruffly spoke. "Indeed you do, maybe you need to be reminded," Cerce smiled behind his mask. "Yes..." He growled. "Dear commander Xoltan, as your humble cousin I wish to tell you that a small outpost in the northern Americas has been overrun with hunters, Please send aid to them immediately, your humble cousin Cerce," He smiled and Wendigo's eyes grew large. Cerce was the reason Wendigo had become what he was. Long before now Wendigo was know as Xoltan. A great and powerful Commander of Sector 10. He lived his life on fighting first and asking questions later. At this time most of Halo was extremely basic almost tribal. Cerce hated his cousin because he had the title and the funds. To fund his research Cerce would need to claim the title of Commander. So to claim the title he selected the weakest of the ten and worked against him. He first turned his entire sector against their master.

Then he sent Xoltan a false letter of urgency. "You were so great, but your ideals were stale, and Halo needed someone with a brilliant mind such as my own to bring it out of the dark ages, I had no idea you would resort to eating your corporal, but it was so much fun to watch you do so," Cerce mocked the beast. Wendigo roared loudly and ran forward intending to kill the monster that Cerce was. His claws came close to his mask and Yoko punched him away. With a single hit Yoko knocked him sixty feet away. On Yoko's hands was a pair of leather gloves with hammers etched into them. Bringing his hands together a loud clash of thunder shook the desert spraying sand onto Xoltan.

When the sand cleared Xoltan appeared before Yoko and slashed across his chest. His claws dug deep into his body tearing through his ribs. Falling back Yoko shuttered as he covered the hole in his body. He could hear his heartbeat pounding from the hole. "Yoko you stupid boy, get up and fight," Cerce demanded. "Yes master," Yoko forced himself up and started fighting with Wendigo. Getting hit multiple times Yoko's body was soon bloodied and torn. Each time he fell Cerce ordered him to keep going and Yoko did as commanded. Wendigo slashed through Yoko's head and sparks let out showing Yoko's brain was artificial. Yoko shook and feel back sparks letting out from his mouth.

"Oh dear that will take a lot of work to repair," Cerce looked at the boy. His blood stained the sand as he kicked Yoko over. "How dare you attack two of my creations in the same day," Cerce stared at Wendigo. Maia's suddenly felt something touched her leg. Looking down the small dragon nuzzled her, his wing was torn off. "Oh no!" She picked it up and held it crying. "Don't cry over that foolish creature girl, I designed it to be repairable much as I designed Yoko's brain, his body is completely real but the mind has be reconstructed," Cerce growled and Wendigo stepped toward him.

"I didn't give you permission to move, Denki Doku!" Cerce spoke rapidly and raised his hand. His fingers extended and pierced through Wendigo's chest. He held still as the tendrils held him in place. "You're Yoso? It wasn't like this..." Wendigo remembered. Once Cerce actually carried a venom covered whip. However, since Yoso's don't have to obey their masters Denki Doku lashed out against Cerce. It would backlash and sting him which would anger the jellyfish. "Ah yes, once Denki Doku was a free spirit, but now since I preformed a few experiments on the last of the men loyal to you, I found that I can overwhelm a Yoso inside my own body," Cerce cackled and stepped forward. An extreme taboo amongst Halo watchers and commanders. Cerce had destroyed his weapons independence forever and formed it with his own body. These were the reasons the Commander of Sector 10 was seen as a sick monster.

He saw everyone as experimental potential. He used watchers in his experiments and himself. He tore open a watchers head and completely rebuilt his brain to be loyal. Wendigo slashed across the whips and cut them before running at him. "How dare you fail me Denki Doku!" Cerce ran his free hand across his mask. A Japanese symbol for jellyfish appeared across his mask . "Yansei Yoso, Stage One, Denki Doku Kyoki," Cerce calmly spoke and his mask vanished from his face. Wendigo grunted as the mask appeared over his face and he stopped dead in his tracks. "Now as Kyoki digs deep into your mind and tears apart your mind lets see what I can do," Cerce smiled with his disfigured face.

His whips wrapped around his arm and pulling his arm away he pulled the elks arm off. Gushing blood Cerce let his whips slowly tear him apart and stab through him. "You truly were a pathetic creature, this won't kill you since you're still immortal, but I hope you enjoy every second of the pain," Cerce turned away and the mask reappeared on his face. Wendigo lay silent unable to move or speak with all of his major nerves destroyed. It would take him centuries to heal and Cerce loved delivering such pain.

Moving towards Maia she gulped staring up at him. "Um...Hi," She gulped and clutched the dragon as he held his hand out. "I will heal him, I have a soft spot for my creations," He narrowed his eyes and sat him on his hand. The dragon chirped and slowly began to sink into his hand. Melting away Cerce removed his mask and opened his coat. Bringing a scalpel to his stomach he cut deep inside. As his stomach acid poured out onto the ground the dragon fluttered out. It was completely healed as it shook off the gunk covering its body.

"Yoko? Yoko get up, Yoko you stupid boy! Must I do everything," Cerce growled at him. Turning his head to Yoko he moved over and picked up Yoko. Pressing him against his chest Yoko slipped inside his own and his cells began to form to Yoko's. Bringing the scalpel back up to his chest he sliced his own body open like a cocoon. Yoko stepped out and smiled at Maia warmly. "I am Yoko, Corporal of sector 10, a pleasure to see you again," he smiled as Cerce fell to the ground his body turning to thick jelly. Yoko pulled a vile from his pocket. Setting it on the ground Cerce's fluid body rushed to it and Yoko put on a cap.

"Will he be ok?" Maia poked to vile softly. "Of course I will you stupid girl, Healing people is not my specialty, It weakens me greatly and puts me in this form, This is the only time I may die," Cerce's voice echoed from the vile. "Yes I must protect my master," He held the vile to his body. "You really do love him don't you?" Maia raised an eyebrow. "Yes I do," He cradled the vile against his body. The dragon chirped happily nuzzling Maia. She petted him gently and kisses its cheek. Blushing the dragon ducked behind her hair. Artemis quickly came over the dune as the two groups joined forces. Moving together they moved toward to passage into Fraud.
