Her Sorrow

A short story I did about the pain and sorrow of losing a loved one. Not to be taken seriously about the death of one of my characters. I just figured they would best suit what I was writing about. As for why he is in the hospital, use your imagination, since I meant for it to be an open give or take situation. It's been awhile since I typed up anything, so bare with me.

Tiffani lays next to Stone on the bed and whispers into his ear, "What have they done?". A sense of worry in her voice as she puts her paw on his shoulder, "I know what I want true but will my demons fade?". She knew no matter what lie she told herself this time it, wouldn't ease the pain of saying goodbye.

Cradling his head she brings him closer to her heart. "Your eyes are closed but my love, will hold me true.", she spoke as a tear crept down her face. This moment she never asked for as he lay dying in her arms.

She whispers to the dying wolf, "If only you can hear me and know of my fear of losing you." A tear drops from her face and upon contact, is absorbed into his silvery fur. The warmth from his body grows ever fainter while holding him dear, "I am with you now.", she said silently while looking out the hospital window.

On the horizon a storm was blowing in and began to darken the sky. The wind blowing violently against the window, made it tremble and scared the vixen as if it were an ominous sign.

Slowly she opened her eyes and seen that a glimmer of light had broken through the gray skies. What she had hoped for, was a burst of light to show through but sadly only shined for a brief moment as the clouds came together and sent the light to darkness once more.

His eyes cracked open and she seen that no light reflected off of their glossy surface. Her own hope filled heart scarring ever more, as the light began to fade from her eyes as well. The darkness had swallowed what remained of hope in the now darkened hospital room.

In this moment, all she felt, would fade into the nothingness of her mind, as she seen some tears appear from the side of his eyes. She knew that he had known all along, her tears, her words, would forever be his sorrow.

Tiffani could feel the tears of joy building up inside her as she faked her hope in an effort to ease his pain. She had known their last moments would mark the end of their time together. Shaken and full of regret, she would soon be left alone.

She tried her best to grasp the situation and reaches for his paw. She trembled at the touch of his fur and takes hold. She could feel the warmth from her paw as it touched the growing coldness of his. Lovingly, she raised it to her cheek and held it dearly.

Fighting back her tears as his eyes closed once more.

She snuggled closer to him and held on for those last moments. His pain would soon come to an end and she knew she could never love another as long as she lived. For such are the rules of the Bond. Once a bond, always a bond. Even after death it will hold true.

She had lain beside the wolf many times before and soon it would be the last time. So she would enjoy these last few moments and let her hope filled heart break once more. Her love would keep her strong and closes her eyes once more.

All she felt was the cold feeling of death, piercing her soul as she held close, his body. Together they had known only the love they shared and let nothing come between them. This moment, another chapter in the tale of her life, had caused her to grow cold as stone. From behind life's closed doors would come another unexpected turn.

Up to the moment he drew his final breath, she had felt he would pull through. She didn't know yet, the feelings of sorrow or loneliness. Now sad and shaking she knew that she was alone. She could feel the weight of the truth come crashing down on her as she lowered her head. Her tears falling like the rain outside.

"I'll be here. Until the day, we meet again", she spoke as she hugged him one last time.

From the wolf's side she spoke out against the deathly silence that filled the room, "Rest now my love. Goodbye" Slowly she kissed his forehead and got up from the bed. The room grew colder and she held herself in an effort to keep warm.

She looked outside and seen the sun shining through the storm and lowered her head as the room filled with its brilliant essence.

The warmth she felt on her fur, calmed her nerves only for the briefest of moments as she looked at the lifeless wolf on the bed. Suddenly all the feelings she had known caused her to cry once more.

The door behind her opened as a nurse came in and seen what had transpired. She offered Tiffani her shoulder to cry on and held the shaking vixen.

She had seen it many times before and knew that she could only offer a minor comfort to those who lost a loved one. Nothing she could say or do, could bring back the dead. Calmly she walked with the vixen outside the room and sat her on a nearby chair.

Tiffani could feel her heart almost come to a stop among the mixed feelings she had inside of her. She figured herself strong but it was only for a moment and knew it would be awhile for this feeling to subside completely.

Now sick and tired, she would mourn her loss and try to live out the rest of her life.

Getting up from the chair she walked outside and looked into the sky. Her tears reflecting in the sun, signaled to the sky, her sorrow. She had yet to accept the feeling he was gone and felt a gust of wind brush across her fur.

As the wind blew she thought she heard a voice say, "Forget me not. In your heart, I will remain."

After the events in the hospital, Tiffani would never feel the same. With what little feelings she had left, would rather forget knowing sadness. Her future, still unwritten, would end with her name written in stone. Behind her minds closed doors, dwells the memories of the loved and lost.

***To those who have felt sadness, you are not alone. I know the feeling of which I speak. It's a feeling hard to write about, unless you, yourself, have felt it. It hits you hard, harder than anything you can imagine. You feel so alone in that moment, where no one can comfort you. You know of the sorrow that comes with death. I know it too.***
