Creation of Furries Ch. 8

"There he is!" I chuckled, even blushing a bit, as the crowd cheered. Simon stood at the mic, smiling. "The man who started as a scientist, wolfman, and now the President."

I chuckled, again, coming forward to hug him. "Ah, it was nothing." I stepped back, falling into a chair. "You know, a few months ago, I would never believe that I would be President." I shielded my eyes, as a few pictures were snapped. "I definitely didn't think I would be on a stage, talking after the start of a war."

They watched me with hope and intensity. It was so different than that press meeting that seemed so far away now. "I know you want me to say something to justify what we did here, but I can't. It was horrible. But, we did it for our rights. We did it for freedom. It doesn't justify it, but it gives us a reason to fight."

I chuckled, running my hands through my hair. "I never thought the day would come when I was so tired that I could just fall over, and not care. But that day has come. I feel like I haven't slept in so long, yet I know last night I slept for seven hours."

They seemed confused. Heh. "I'm not this incredibly inspirational leader like on TV, or in the movies. I'm just a normal guy. You all look to me for guidance, and hope, but I'm another one of you that was given a chance to do something great."

"A long time ago, I was a scientist trying to impress my boss any way I could. Now I'm President." A few people in the crowd laughed a bit, but it was half-hearted. I tried to find words. Inspirational words. Something.

This was all I had: "But, all I know, is that we are Americans. We have always fought for equality. Now, they're quick to shepherd us into our little country. Well, I say no! I say, we stand, and we fight!"

"We are Americans! We deserve equality! We deserve freedom!" By this time the crowd was in an uproar. "I am Damien Carter. I am your President. Long Live the Furry Republic of America!"

"You still there?"

*Yeah, I'm still here. I'll be here till midnight.*

I sighed, falling back into my chair. They even gave me my own office. They call it the Fur's Hope Office. Heh. No pressure, right? "Ugh... I'm tired."

*Yeah, I got that much from your speech. Why don't you go to sleep? I'll take over the body for now.*

I gave a smile, and shut my eyes. "Thanks." It was strange, because I fell right to sleep, yet my body didn't.

I chuckled, standing up. The guy was a good leader. They need a good leader, not a good politician. That's why we'll win.

I opened the window, and jumped out onto the ledge. The city looked peaceful, despite the damage. Despite it all, I can still feel his influence. We're different people, yet we're the same person. The Goddess works in strange ways.

Speaking of the Goddess... I grabbed onto the top of the window, and pulled myself up. I jumped backwards, and grabbed onto the ledge above. I slowly looked down, and chuckled. It would have been smarter to use the elevator. Too late now.

I pulled myself up, and let my legs dangle, as I looked over the city. Despite the fact war had just broken out in the streets, people walked around as if it were a normal day. It was oddly pleasing.

Then, I looked up, and sighted the moon. Goddess, lend me the vision...

"Wh-What?! H-How, I-I mean, Wh-What, n-no-"

"Damien, calm down." I exhaled, trying to regain my bearings. "Now, who am I?"

I looked at her, trying to decipher who she was. But, it just didn't click. She was beautiful. That was it. "I can't decide right now."

"Good." I blinked, dumbfound by her answer. "You answered correctly. You will not be able to tell who I am for some time."

"Then why have you been asking me?!"

"So that you can think about who I am. A thought in the back of your mind that will click when it is ready."

I sighed, and continued to stare at the swirling colors. "So, what happened to the Earth?"

"What is not a question that may be answered at this time." I raised an eyebrow, but decided to humor the statement.

"Okay, uh, why did it happen to the Earth?"

"Because war tore at it so voraciously, that I had to save it."

I felt strangely happy at the thought. "You're the who?"

"No. You are."

"I'm the who? Who happened to the Earth?"

"Damien Carter."

I looked away, thinking. This was interesting. The Goddess definitely worked in strange ways.

Ungh... "Hey, could you take over right now?" Silence. "Hey, could you please-" I opened my eyes, and noticed the sun shining in my eyes. It's tomorrow. We can't talk for awhile.

I rubbed my eyes, and sat slowly up. I felt a bit better, but still tired. I needed a walk. I got up and put on a robe, exiting the room.

As I stepped down the hallway, I felt distant. The war felt distant. For once, ever since that hospital, I felt the least bit normal. A chance at a normal life... I'd kill for that.

I slowly walked up to a door, and opened it. Luna appeared, sitting in a chair. "Hey, stranger." She slowly looked up, and gave a smile.

"Hey." I walked over, and say in the chair next to hers. "How'd you sleep?" I chuckled, which seemed to be enough of an answer to her. "Yeah, I can't sleep either."

"Where is everyone?" I tried to see if I could see a sign of anyone around, but there were none. "I thought everyone would be celebrating. Thought if they did they'd bring me."

She sighed and looked away. Something wasn't right. "They're doing something. I'm sure they'll turn up." I nodded, trying to read her face.

"So, do you want to do anything?" I reached for her hand. "We could-" I froze, seeing something shine in her other hand. It was a magnum. "L-Luna, why do you have a-"

She pointed it straight at my chest. I finally noticed tears down her cheeks. "Why'd you do it?!" What the hell?! What is wrong-Why am I saying this to myself?!

"What is wrong with you?!" She cocked it, so I raised my hands. "Luna! What are you doing?!"

"You killed Neo!"

"What?! No, I didn't!"

"Yes you did! We found his neck ripped out, and you were the last one seen with him! Unless humans have begun doing that, but I don't remember that being a normal activity!"

I blinked, struck silent by the words. Neo... How...

"And then just last night you broke Simon's arm, spewing nonsense about this Goddess, and how we were all going to die because of Damien Carter!" What? That-That can't be true. He seemed... He...

"L-Luna. You have to trust me. F-First, p-put down the gun." She bit her lip, before tossing the gun onto a couch. "N-Now, Luna, I don't remember breaking his arm, and the last I saw Neo, he was dead from explosives. No bites."

"You're lying!" She picked up a vase, and threw it at me. I cringed, as it shattered against my arm. "I-I... I can't do this. I started this because I wanted to be a Furry, and then I rushed into some sort of relationship with a mad homicidal war starting maniac, and then I joined the war a maniac made! I can't do this!" I felt my insides twist; as I listened to each word, it seemed like it was a new blow to me. "I'm sorry, Damien. This is too much. I just... I can't do it." She wiped her cheeks, and walked to the door, looking back one more time. "Goodbye, Damien Carter." And she closed the door.

I fell back into the couch. I slowly looked over, and saw the pistol. I picked it up, and exhaled.

Bang.

****

"Hello, Damien."

I turned, and saw myself, standing next to the Goddess. "You son of a bitch!" I ran forwards, and swung my fist at him. He caught it, and twisted it around. I cried out, falling over.

"Damien, Damien, Damien... Did you really need to result to killing yourself? Just because Luna left doesn't mean it's over!" I glared at them both, growling. "Get over her!"

I looked to the Goddess, who just stood there, and then I looked back at him. Then, I double-taked. "My god..."

She had white fur. Her face was gorgeous, and her eyes stunning. Her bushy tail swung back and forth, almost playfully. "You're Luna..."

She smiled. "You finally recognized me. It took you long enough." Luna walked over, swinging her hips as much as possible. She seemed disappointed when I snarled.

"Face it, Damien. We're in charge. So continue the war, lead your people, and allow us to control you. Or we'll kill you all."

I turned, and spat in his face. He just scoffed, pushing my arm harder. "Never."

Luna chuckled, walking away from us, swaying with each step. She was horrible. She manipulated me. Every step of the way. "You are a fool. Resistance is futile. We have won."

I chuckled, myself. "It's not over until the fat lady sings."

She rolled her eyes. "I never got that human expression. Something to do with operas, I'm guessing."

"You're not human?"

This time, Luna burst out in laughter, as if let in on an inside joke. "Of course not! I am Anthronian! The true anthro race! You are half-breed freaks! But, with modifications, you can be true."

My doppelgänger nodded, soaking in her every word. It was a bit annoying. Speaking of him... "Alright, "Goddess", if you really are a goddess, then can you tell me who the hell this guy is? And none of that warrior spirit bullshit."

She smiled, looking out into space. "He's my husband. He's just undergone a bit of surgery. But, means to an end. I will rule Earth. Then I will take back my planet, Sulario."

I laughed, finally understanding. "You're not a goddess! You're a tyrant who got kicked out! Exiled! Now, you want your throne, you spoiled brat!"

Her smile disappeared. "You will learn very quickly that I am more of a goddess than anyone you will ever know. You should have learned that by now."

"I learned you are a bitch."

She rolled her eyes, snapping her fingers.

I felt pressure on my arm, as he kept pushing it to maximum tension. "You know... gah... I actually did learn something from you... From you both..."

Luna smiled, staring into my eyes. "What? Humor me."

I grinned, glaring right into her eyes. "I learned that I hate the moon. And I hate aliens."

My foot flew up, and rammed into his crotch. I ripped my hand from his grip, and spun around, dealing a fist to his temple. He flew back, crashing to the ground.

My ears perked, hearing Luna run towards me. I dropped to my feet, and shifted. I was in perfect control.

I turned and drove my jaws into her neck. We both fell, and I watched anger and surprise explode in her eyes. I drove my fangs deeper, and ripped the flesh free.

I spat it out, and glared into her face. "For the record, I'm breaking up with you."

****

"Damien!"

I shot up, immediately regretting it. I fell right back down, clutching my chest. I couldn't see worth a damn, but two blurs stood over me.

"Damien! Are you okay?!" That was definitely Veronica.

"We don't need you dead, Mr. President!" And that was Simon.

This time with caution and care, I slowly sat up, watching my side steadily. My eyesight finally regained itself, and made sense of the shapeless blurs. Both of them stood above me with worried expressions.

"Damien!"

"I'm fine, I'm fine. You don't need to say my name more than three times. But if I can stick my head in your clouds it might cheer me up." I watched her cheeks grow red, even under the dark fur. "I know about Luna."

They both seemed shocked but I shook it off. I was more interested in Simon. "You're arm..." It was fine. It wasn't broken.

He raised an eyebrow, and looked at it. "What about it?"

I motioned away the question, thinking hard. Then, Veronica's voice pierced my concentration. "How'd you know about Luna?"

I didn't know what exactly to say, so I told the whole story. Everything about the Goddess and the strange spirit. Afterwards, they both looked at me like I was crazy.

"Whatever. I have a war to run. Toss me in the loony bin afterwards, but for now I need to run this country." I stood up, glad my legs worked.

"You killed Luna?"

I turned back to Veronica, staring seriously back at her. "She lied about everything. She made me think I was crazy. Loosing it." I stared at my hands, seeing blood stained on my claws. "Blood was already on my hands. May as well continue. Anything for freedom..."

"Hey... I need to blow off some steam."

****

"My hold over you is not broken yet"
