Is there True Love?

Part 2: The Eternal Bond.

As the roar of the four powerful engines started to die down into a low rumble. Daniel leaning his head to look out of the small window next to his seat. As he looks, he sees the landscape slowly move as the 747 slowly taxis off the runway and to the terminal, of Sanford Airport, Orlando. The seat beat light says on, as the air stewards move about, up and down the aisles of the plane slowly. He closes his eyes and remembers the last 24 hours that has happened in his mind. From having a large hiking bag on his back, walking along the Purbeck coast with 5 other students, for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Then the waiting at the Gate, to board the European Airlines 747. Being one of many who had his trainer checked, due to the fears of the shoe bomber who tried to blow up a plane only a few months after 11/9, 2001.

As he opens his eyes slowly to look at the bright blue, Florida sky, he breaths in deeply.

Flying and heights being some of the things he doesn't like at all. Having flown two other times before, once to Greece, two years before as part of a college trip, and for the first time in 2000, to the same airport the plane had touched down just a couple of minutes ago. He turns his head away from the window to look at his sister, a Californian Sea Lion, like the rest of 'his family', but Daniel was different to the rest of them. For he was, not a sea lion or a seal at that, but a Killer Whale. Many have wondered why a Killer Whale would live with a Sea Lion, but they all get along, even if others don't.

The doors of the airport slowly open to the outside. As you walk over the fresh hold, the heat of the air outside hits you. The building being air conditioned keeping the internal cooler than the heat. His father had wondered off to get the car they would be renting for the next two weeks, collecting the keys and filling in the forms. Daniel walks over to a shaded area and places on his baseball cap and some sun glasses, the sweat forming beads on his skin slowly. Unlike most people who were dolphin morphs around him, weren't built for living in colder weather and water. This meant he had a larger layer of blubber under his skin.

"I have the keys. Bay A14" his father said, coming towards them, holding out the form and keys to their rental.

"Grab the bags then you two," looking at both Daniel and his sister. His sister was already walking off behind his father. He does to the trolley and pushes it forwards, to row A and then towards the car, there they where all standing, looking at the car.

"Here it is then" his father, James said to them, waving a hand to it. Daniel blinked a few times as the light from the sun hit the cars body and reflected into his eyes, even with sun glasses on, it was hard to make up. He pulled his cap down a bit lower and got a good look at the grill of the car and the bag. A Chrysler Voyager.

"It looks like the one we had last time we were here. It's even the same colour," Kat pointed out as Daniel nodded his agreement.

Soon the bags were backed into the boot of the people carrier, by his mother, who could pack anything into a car that had to be packed, still leaving space for more. All four of them were in their seats, Daniel and his father in the front, his mother and sister in the back. They were making their way to a villa his father had rented off a friend at work. Daniel was giving direction to the villa, not use to US maps; he was learning to read one at the same time. The fridge setting on the control panel was pressed on, cooling both Daniel and the interior of the car as well, something Daniel was glad to have on.

The journey to the villa was an uneventful one, except for the fact that Daniel gave out one wrong direction, meaning he had to find a new route from the road they were now going down quickly, but they managed to get back on track. The villa they were staying in was outside the town of Kissimmee. The car was slowly unloaded into the villa and rooms, with all the cloths. Daniel wanted to just collapse on his bed he had, but couldn't till later that night, but they were going out soon for their first evening out at an American diner for the holiday.

Most of Orlando and the theme parks such as Universal and Disney were the same as the first time they went there. There were some differences such as rides being closed, refurbished, or new ones taking their places. The only different things that they did were to go to Clearwater, Tampa, instead of Coco Beach, and also to Busch Gardens, rather than Kennedy Space Centre.

As the boat they were all on, with 30 others, bounced through the waves of Tampa Bay. Daniel was standing at the Bow of the catamaran, the weather was cloudy, and was threatening to rain. A large number of people, both human and animal morphs, were looking at him with interest, but he was ignoring them. The owners of the craft had made a promise that you were able to see dolphins in the wild, or get a second trip free. The captain of the boat had joked to them that they would all see at least one dolphin on the trip, a killer whale to be exact for free, as Daniel happened to be one. Most didn't under this, but Daniel did, as he had a different sense of humour to others, as it was darker as he was told by his Archaeological teacher when he was in college.

The trip out into Tampa Bay lasted for 1 hour, with plenty of sighting of Bottlenose dolphins in the wild, so everyone got a picture; Daniel with his digital camera took 20 different pictures. Weather his parents got any, he didn't know until they got back home in England, as they were using an APS camera and a digital video camera, his father forgot the battery charger for the camera, so he didn't want to find out and run the battery down more. The rain was coming down as well as the craft made its way back to dock, but Daniel didn't mind it, until it poured down heavily, then he retreated back inside.

*

It had been a couple of days since the trip into Tampa Bay, and now Daniel was standing on his own, looking through a large glass window, into a pool of water. The sun light playing on the walls, as it moved from air to water. He placed a hand onto the cold glass as he looked in, hearing a sound he knew well, but didn't understand anymore. With his other hand, he reached down the neck of his t-shirt and pulled something out, a necklace he always had, since he could remember. He lowered his head to look at it, admiring the whiteness of it, and feeling its smooth surface with his fingers. As he gazes at it, a small tear wells up in the corner of his eye, and slowly falls down his face and onto the ground, like a small rain drop. He rips his eyes clear of anymore tears that might form with his hand.

He slowly walks up to the glass, tip his beak tip is only millimetres from the smooth surface of the glass, his breath condensing on the cold surface, forming a mist. He rips this away with a hand and watches as a non morph killer whale passes him from behind the glass and makes its way around the large enclosure before going towards the gate and into one of the holding areas for the show.

During this time he was being watched, but not by his parents or sister, but by someone else, who had spotted him walking past the stadium earlier. They had recognised him quickly and couldn't believe their eyes, and decided to follow him to see where he went. They started to walk slowly towards him, raising their arm slowly, stretching it out towards Daniels shoulder and then placed it gently onto it.

"Hello Taku. Never thought I'll be seeing you again here" said a voice behind him. Daniel spun around quickly to look at who had just placed their hand on his shoulder. What he saw surprised him greatly, causing him to back up into the glass behind him. He stuffs the necklace quickly back into his t-shirt, as he looks at them, breathing faster and shallower than he normally would.

"What did you call me?" he asked in surprise.

"Taku. That's your name. Remember?" can the reply.

"Taku? My names Daniel, not Taku" he says quickly as he looks at them. He takes in their form and appearance. A tail, broad at the base, getting narrower to the point that it flattens out into flukes. He slowly looks up their body towards their chest, in which part of their white belly was visible, as well as their belly button. He then took in a pair of stream lined breast that were slightly showing thought the two pieces uniform. He looked up into her green eyes, her beak built just like his, but her body colours were different to his. She had grey stripes on the side of her body, which were slightly visible.

"You look a lot different from when I last saw you, a lot more handsome, and all those years ago" she says smiling to him.

"Sorry, but I don't know you, and never have see, or meet you before. You must have mistaken me for someone else" he replied apologetically, looking away from her and for his back. She was rather pretty for what she was but easily in her late 30s.

She moved closer to him while he was not looking at her but away from her. As he turns to look at her again, their beak tips lightly brush pass each others. He stares at her in a state of mild shock at how close she had gotten to him, a total stranger. His hands feel the glass behind him, as he tried to feel his way for an escape route from her.

Suddenly she kissed him on the lips, her eyes closed softly as she wrapped her arms around him. Daniels pupils widened as she kissed him, his body completely numb, and his mind blank as he just looks at her. She holds this kiss for a few more seconds, before breaking it, her eyes opening slowly as she smiled warmly to him. He blinked a few times and turned away, going for his back, as she watched him, looking slightly disappointed at his reaction. Sure he felt different from it, whether he hated it or enjoyed it, he was not sure, but to be kissed from someone he didn't know at all? What was she playing at? Did she really know him, had he really forgotten her? He grabbed his back and swung it over his shoulder, placing both arms through the straps, not looking at her.

"Why did you do that for?" he asked her angrily, not troubling to keep his voice down.

"Why? I don't even know you. And yet, you think you know me!" his voice rising all the time as he spoke. His white tail flukes turning red in anger as it grow up in him, getting bigger ever second.

"I did it because you use to live here, as one of the orcas in the show here" she replied calmly, not taking her eyes off him, "plus I was your trainer." He just turned and stared at her at this, trying to calm down, but as he replied to her, his voice was shaking in anger still.

"I was only a captive orca at Windsor Safari Park in the UK, not here. Okay?"

"That was because we sold you to then. You use to live here though" she said in reply, choosing her words carefully, and keeping her calm. He crossed his arms, looking straight at her, the fire of his anger in his eyes still, growling brightly where it was normally calm, he was not like himself, and hadn't lost his temper this way before in may years.

"Come with me, if you want prove. You don't have to if you don't want to though" her voice staying amazingly calm all the time.

Later on in the day, Daniel was sitting where the trainers relax in Sea World after the shows. The walls covered in may different pictures, including that of all the dolphins, orcas and sea lions that have ever preformed in the park in the shows. On the table were pictures of a young orca, about 3 years old, with an even younger one, judging by the age it was about 1 year old. The age difference was easy to see in their different sizes to each other, there was a good 2 years between the two.

"You believe me now then?" she said. Her name he found out when he asked was Vicky Watson, her accent a strong Australian in origin. Daniel just nodded as he looked at the picture more. He noticed something about the younger orca in the picture, somehow familiar to him, but then most orcas look the same, except for a few places on their bodies.

"That's Kalka. She too was sold to a different marine park, and we lost contact with them when they went bust, just like with you, she disappeared completely" Vicky said, reading the look in his facial expression easterly.

"The two of you were very close, even though you were born in the wild and she was born here, in captivity. It was hard to separate the two of you. Her mother still lives here though. It would be nice to get them both together again." At that moment the door to the room opened and a large number of trainers turned up, from the Shamu Stadium, talking to each other, laughing as they told each other about the show they had just done. The trainer in from of the group, stopped suddenly at the sight of Daniel, who at that point was still looking at the picture Vicky, was showing him.

"Who the hell are you?" she asked loudly. Causing both Daniel and Vicky to jump up in surprise. Daniel leaped to his feet and spun around to look at the person who had just spoken out. He started to breath quickly and shallowly again, this time though his mouth, something he learnt to do himself back in England, many years ago, some of his teeth showing slightly. The rest of the trainers peered behind her, all looking at Daniel with curiously. He turned to look at Vicky, who was walking towards her fellow trainers.

"This is Taku," she said to them, as she gestured to him with a hand "but he prefers to be called Daniel." He chuckled nervously and held out a hand and waved it shyly.

"Hello" he said in a timid voice, looking more at the floor than at everyone in the room. His arms behind his backs, shuffling his feet uneasily, as they all looked at him.

"Taku, you say Vicky?"

"Yes I do. His flukes are fully white, not black and white like other orcas," she replied, smiling. The first trainer walked up to him, her paw extended for him. He hesitated for a moment before moving one of his hands to shake hers, blushing in embarrassment as he did. She was a white furred otter, her eyes were a bright green, and filled with natural curiosity, but which otter species, Daniel couldn't work out. She smiled to him as she let go of his hand, before tilting her head to look at his tail flukes before looking back at him.

"yes, your right there Vicky" she said in a more squeaky voice, that was common with otter morphs, plus other morphs, who's natural type, squeaked in some way, except for those who were of the cetacean family, but not all didn't have a normal voice, some do have a squeaky voice as well, but Daniels wasn't. Instead he spoke very quickly and mumbled. He has been accused of being both American and Australian by people he had chatted to on the internet and on holiday, but he always said he was British, which in a way he was.

"I always wondered what happened to you after Windsor Safari Park closed, all those years ago," she continued. "So what have you been up to Taku then? Or do you prefer me to call you, Daniel was it?" she asked him curiously, taking a seat and motioning to him to sit down as well. The other trainers taking their own seats, watching him with interest, as he slowly settled him down in the same chair again. He was still embarrassed with all this and it showed. He picked up the picture he was looking at earlier with Vicky.

"Can I keep this please?" he asked, holding the picture in his hand and showing it to them.

"Sure you can. So want to tell us anything at all?" she asked him, still watching him like you would if you were looking at your favourite family member.

"Um, well, who are you would be nice. Sorry if I sound a bit rude" he said.

"Not at all," she chuckled, "I'm Sue Thomas. I'm the head Orca trainer here. Though you wont have seen me, as your not allowed into the Shamu Stadium, due to the fact that your, well, a killer whale, like Shamu, Namu and Splash." He shifted in his seat a little uneasily, looking guilty at the same time. He knew for a fact that places like Sea World has certain restrictions, for different morphs, depending on your species. Meaning that if you're a Bottlenose dolphin or False Killer Whale, you couldn't go and see the Key West Dolphin Fest, or go to areas such as the Dolphin Cove. Daniel had gone to see the Shamu Adventure, and got in unchallenged. He sat in the second room, in the centre of the stadium, taking photographs during the show with his 35mm SLR camera. Whether the fact he was wearing a cap that got him in, he didn't know.

"Um, as a matter of fact, I have seen the show, each time I have been here to tell you the truth" sounding guilty as he said it.

"Oh, but how. All the tickets that are sold, have a exclusion zone on them, so you can't get into areas your not meant to" she said, startled by what he had just said to her.

"I have a full access ticket for the park, as the ticket office didn't have the sort of ticket to stop me going into the Shamu Stadium, and watching the Shamu Adventure. I mean how many orca morphs are there in the world?" he said, as slowly and clearly as he could, without muttering anything at the same time.

"I only know of one other like me, and she works where..... I...... work" breaking off as he realised what he was saying. He looked at the picture again; he had just asked to keep. A surprised look in his eyes, his mouth slightly open in mild shock. Everyone was now looking at him, wondering what was up and why he had stopped talking, looking with mounting interest all the time.

His mind was buzzing, trying to find a distant memory now, if what Vicky had said was true, about the two of them in the picture being very close to each other. His memory his mind had found flashed before him, like a television, and what he saw hit him hard, like a stone being thrown at him from across the room. He looked away from the picture quickly and at everyone looking at him.

"You look like you have seen a ghost Daniel" said one of the other trainers, who were a cheetah morph. Indeed he did look like he had, his skin which was normally jet black in places has gone a paler colour than normal, had become a sort dull grey colour very quickly.

"I think I have seen one," he replied calmly, placing the photograph into his bag. "It's just that I think I know what happened Kalka. That's all."

"Why? What do you think happened to her?" Vicky asked him, going pale in colour as well as she looked at him. He chooses his next few words very carefully as he spoke to them, "I think that she had the same thing done to her, as I had done. Turned into a morph, from being in the wild form, before hand. When the safari park closed down, I was bought by a research team, and my DNA modified so that I became a morph. I also expect that the same thing has happened to her." He stopped for a while and looked around the room; everyone was looking at him, hanging onto everything he was saying. The silence in the room could be cut by a knife, till he continued, "I was then adopted by the family I now live with. I expect she has been adopted as well, but whom by, I'm not sure. I expect she has had her name changed, like I have by her adoptive family. What it is I don't know either." He knew that this was a lie, as he said it, because he did know who they were, and their new name, but he didn't want to share it at all.

"Is it alright to leave please? As I need to go and meet up with my parents, as we're going off to International Drive soon for dinner" he asked politely. Most looked at him very disappointedly when he said this. Sue nodded and held out her paw again, Daniel shock it with his hand a second time, liking the feeling of her fur against his skin.

"I hope that I will see you again Daniel. Please show him out Vicky. The rest of you, we have another show to get ready for in one hours time" clapping her paws together, and looking around the room.

*

On the way back to the villa, Daniel was sitting at the back of the people carrier, his head against the cold window, the rain lashing at the glass on the outside, flashes of lighting could be seen, and then the distance rumble of thunder heard close by. His mind was still buzzing with what he had just worked out in Sea World. He knew now that he had forgotten her, and then knew her again when she started work. How he had forgotten her so easy and quickly he didn't know, and now he had found her. His earliest friend and playmate back at Sea World, before they became separated. And yet the bond he use to have with her was starting to reform in him, and internal bond that all orcas in a pod have to each other, which keeps a pod together. But this bond also had a more intimate nature to it, as they were both young and did things that were against laws for humans and morphs in Western countries and the modern world.

How could he tell her? Would her tell her at all about what he had found out, or keep her in the cold with this information. Did she always know about this, had she, unlike him recalled it all? Could she recall her real name at all, if he asked her? All this was going though his mind now, each taking the other thoughts place ever so quickly. He then recalls the number of times they have sat together on the bus to and from the work.

They both had a lot to talk about now, when he got home to England, but did he want to too. It was her he saw in the picture, still finding it hard to believe as he remembers the picture, but he knew it was true. He liked her old name of Kalka sounded better to him than her newer name of Sophie. The thought and memory was causing his belly to pink all the time now, and staying like it for long periods of time.

To be continued.....
