With our weekend at the cabin now over it was time for Lance and I to head back into civilization, so we headed back to Lance's place to begin to get ready for a Monday night at Silver's Night Club. At 4pm we arrive at the club and we make our entrance, the first guy to greet us is the Big Guy.

"What a difference a couple of days makes, boss you look happier now than I have seen you in quite a while"

Lance lets out a playful snicker.

"Thanks Big Guy, it's all down to this wonderful Rottweiler, you should get yourself a mate, I'm sure that a rough and ready guy like you will have to beat them off with a stick"

The Draft Horse gives a slight whiny and then smiles a little.

"Well boss, some of us don't have a magnetic personality like you, but that is not to say that I ain't lookin', oh and by the way, I know that the last guy that you want to see right now is that Sheppy, but he's waitin' for ya by the bar, he arrived about ten minutes before you guys, said he wanted to apologise to ya, want me to crush him and send him on his way?"

Lance looks at me as he can hear my low throaty growl.

"Jake, everyone deserves a second chance, let's just see what the guy has to say and then, if he causes trouble, you can rip him a new hole"

To say that I was not happy about standing so close to the guy that had caused so much injury to Lance was an understatement, but Lance did have a point, and at the end of the day it is his club, so what he says goes.

"Okay Mr. Silver, I will play it your way, but he makes one wrong move, he becomes Rottweiler kibble and no one will be able to stop me"

I see a look in Lance's eyes that tells me that he is impressed by everything that I have just said, he then breaks eye contact with me and we head towards the German Shepherd. As we approach the Sheppy turns on his stool and looks at Lance, a look of sorrow and guilt plastered all over his face.

"Mr. S...Silver, I wanted to stop by and apologise for what I did to you the other night, I don't normally act like that, but that day I had just been made redundant from a job that I had done for twenty years, I know that is no excuse for giving you a smack in the mouth, but I guess I just had a little bit too much to drink, you know, drowning my sorrows and all that, and when you spoke to me about drinking on the dance floor I snapped, your chief of security gave me a pasting that sobered me up big time"

Lance looks over to the Draft Horse and giggles a little.

"Ah yes, the legendary Big Guy Bash, so, what did you do before you were made redundant?"

The Sheppy looks at Lance with a confused look but answers anyway.

"I was a delivery van driver, why do you ask?"

Lance looks at me and I know exactly what he is thinking, he is going to give this guy a job, Lance can see the look in my eyes that says that I don't think it a good idea, but he goes for it anyway.

"Okay well first off I want to know something about you that you might find a little uncomfortable to talk about, I mean you came in here the other night to drown your sorrows, but why here? Why not Blackstock's Night Club just across the road? Were you not aware that Silver's is a gay club, or are you gay?"

The Sheppy blushes to a deep red and starts to look down towards the floor.

"Oh I know that you run a gay club here, I just thought that I could drown my sorrows and maybe, just maybe score some tail, but the only thing I scored was a black eye courtesy of the Horse"

Lance giggles at the Shepherd's words.

"Yeah, he can be a bit too good at his job sometimes, okay I'm going to do something now that will probably annoy the Rottweiler standing by my side, I'm going to offer you a job, now at the moment the only open slot that I have is that of a glass collector, ya know, you walk around with a tray or a box and collect the empty drink glasses from the tables, I know that it sounds like a shitty job, but it will be regular money, it will mean that you will be able to meet the customers and who knows you might get lucky in your search for that elusive tail. You will also be responsible for taking the DJ his drinks and collecting the empties, the money won't be a king's ransom, but it will be better than what the state pays and it is a permanent position 5pm until 1am seven nights a week"

The Sheppie's eyes go wide as he takes in what Lance has just told him.

"Mr. Silver, did I just hear you right, did you just offer me a... job, even after what I did to you?"

Lance places a paw on the Sheppie's shoulder.

"My friend, if I had been in your situation I would probably have acted in a similar way, as my friend Jake here will attest to, it ain't no pleasure cruise when you lose your job, especially when it is through no fault of your own"

Lance had me there, part of me wanted to rip the Shepherd's head from his shoulders, but another part of me could see what the guy had been through, as I had been through it less than a week before, Lance finishes off his sentence.

"So, what do ya say? Do you want the job, or not?"

I watched as the Sheppie's tail started wagging at a rapid pace.

"Are you kidding? I'll take it gladly"

Lance holds his paw out to the Shepherd, who in turn takes the offered paw and shakes it.

"My name is Leo Samuels, and I can't thank you enough for giving me this opportunity"

I lean forward and whisper into Leo's right ear.

"Okay, I will hold off on turning you into Rottweiler kibble, but be warned, one wrong paw and it will be your last, got it?"

Leo solemnly nods to show that he has heard every word that I have said, Lance pulls me back.

"Jake, behave yourself hon, remember, I do the hiring and firing around here and if anyone needs a good talking too, I'm the one that supplies it, now go and get ready for the early session while I get Piss Head to show Leo the ropes"

I nod gently and head towards the changing rooms that are situated behind the stage, once inside the changing rooms I notice that I am not alone; The Big Guy has also decided to change into his uniform.

"Well JC, I don't know about you, but I for one am going to be watching our new work mate very closely indeed"

I give the Horse a gentle snicker as I reply.

"Oh don't worry, I got him on my radar and he puts one paw out of place I will make damn sure that he sees the nasty side of me, I might even let him live to regret it"

Big Guy walks passed me having finished getting ready for work, as he passes me he gently pats me on the shoulder, kind of a secret code that says that he will be ready for when I explode.

Once I'm dressed in my uniform I again make my way to the front entrance, I see the Germen Shepherd standing behind the bar being shown the ropes by the barman, a soft growl leaves my muzzle, and then I hear Lance's voice calling me from the office.

I quickly enter the office and I see Lance sitting on the front edge of his desk with his arms folded.

"Look Jake, I know that Leo was out of line the other day, but I'm sure you can put yourself in his shoes and see that he acted out of shame and frustration, what I will say is this though, the first bit of trouble he gives us then not only will I let you dispose of him, you will have also earned the right to say I told you so. For now though, I don't want to hear another growl like the one I just heard come from your muzzle, I believe in a fur being innocent until proven guilty, now get your sexy ass back out there and open the club"

I just gently tip my head forward in acknowledgment and then I head out to the main entrance, once I arrive at the entrance I undo the bolts that hold the door closed and then I push it open wide. As I stand back from the door the first of the customers enters, he is a 6'2" grey furred fox, nothing strange there I hear you say, but this guy is a winged fox and has a pair of horns in front of his ears, he also has a rather unsettling scar across his right cheek and I can't shake the feeling that maybe I should keep the guy under close surveillance.

The Fox sits on a stool at the bar and buries his head in his paws, I decide that because there won't be much need for me until the late shift that maybe I should go and see what is going on with the Fox.

"Welcome to Silver's my young friend, now forgive me for saying this but you seem a little down on your luck"

The Fox lifts his head from his paws and looks at me; I can clearly see that he has been crying.

"Look friend, I mean no offence but just butt out, I have had a really shitty night last night, and today has been no better, so I just want to get a drink or twelve and then later find the nearest rock to crawl under"

I gently nod my head and not wanting to push things any further I head back to my doorway. I have been sitting there for almost an hour and a half when the Fox makes his way over to me; he sits at the table next to where I'm sat and begins to speak.

"Look I don't know who you are, but that was no reason for me to be rude earlier"

The Fox holds out his paw to me and I take it in my own and give it a shake, the Fox then continues.

"You deserve to know the full truth, because hopefully I will be in here quite a lot from now on. Well first of all my name is Scribe Grey, as to the reason for why I'm looking so down it is because I have just spent a lot of time at the hospital with my mate...sorry I mean previous mate, you see it was all in vain, as he died in my arms last night"

My muzzle falls agape a little at hearing this; I then close my eyes a little as I find my voice again.

"Oh for the love of god, I'm so sorry, look let me buy you a drink as a kind of welcome to the night club. I know that things seem a little cloudy at the moment, but here you will be among friends, I know that is of little comfort, but at least for a few hours tonight you will not be alone"

Scribe nods gently and accepts my offer of a drink, with drink in paw he quietly sits there and keeps himself to himself. I decide to leave the Fox in peace and I head back to my job at the door, I have been there for ten minutes when Lance joins me.

"Well that's all my paperwork done for the week, what would you say if I was to ask you to dance?"

I look at Lance with shock plastered all over my muzzle.

"Lance, I'm on the door sweetheart, I can't exactly abandon my post so that I can trip the light fantastic with my boyfriend, regardless of how drop dead gorgeous he is"

Lance gains a look of sorrow on his face, but in his eyes I can see a look of devilment and I know full well that I haven't heard the last of this. Lance turns away and heads towards the dance floor while I return my attention to the door, two minutes later and Big Guy is standing right behind me.

"Jake, go grab yourself a drink, I'll watch the door for you"

I could say that I was going to argue, but I know that would be a fruitless task, as there are very few people or furs that argue with Trey and win the argument, and so with a sigh I head towards the bar to order my drink. As I'm waiting to be served Lance climbs up onto the stage and takes the microphone from the DJ's stand.

"Good evening everyone and welcome to Silver's night club, my name is Lance Silver and I hope that you are all enjoying yourselves, however, there is one request that I would make of you all for a few moments, would you all please clear the dance floor as I would like to ask the love of my life Jake Cooper to join me on the dance floor for a slow dance"

Suddenly a spotlight shines upon me and I hear the beginning of a song that always gets me crying, Up Where We Belong by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes, at this point I'm frozen solid to the spot, that is until Trey lifts me up and carries me to where Lance is standing.

By now the dance floor is empty and Lance takes me in his arms and we begin to dance, tears roll down my cheeks as I feel both the music and Lance's love for me take hold. I feel Lance's paws come to rest on my butt and I can also feel the eyes of the many customers watching us, but as the music continues I realise that there is only one guys eyes that I want to stare into, and those are the wonderful eyes of Mr. Lance Silver.
