#2 of The Siblings of Chaos

The sun was shining brightly over Ponyville, casting its golden light over everything it saw. The sound of hooves on stone was in the air as the ponies went about their daily business. Some were chatting with friends, some were grabbing a bite to eat at the local cafe, and others were selling their wares in the marketplace. Everypony was happy, blissfully unaware of the tragedy that would soon befall Equestria.

Inside the local library, a lavender unicorn mare was sitting at a desk, diligently flipping through the pages of an old tome.

"TWILIGHT!" yelled the voice of a young boy.

"What is it, I'm busy," replied the mare.

"Urgent letter from Princess Celestia!" said a small dragon as he ran down the steps, carrying a scroll.

"Well then, give it to me, Spike," Twilight said as she levitated the scroll out of Spike's hand and opened it in front of her face.

My dearest student Twilight,

I need you and your friends to come to Canterlot Castle immediately. We are on the precipice of disaster and we will need the Elements of Harmony once more. Please do not alert the other citizens of Ponyville.

Princess Celestia

"Oh no, this is terrible," she said, worry clear in her voice, "I better get the girls, quickly. Watch the library while I'm gone, Spike," she said as she trotted over to the door.

"Yeah, I know," replied the dragon, .

"I mean it, Spike," she said sternly, before trotting out the door. Once outside, Twilight galloped to Sugarcube Corner as fast as her legs could carry her.

Twilight stopped to compose herself just outside the door to the sweet shop. She tried to hide her worry as she opened the door, eliciting a greeting from the pony manning the counter.

"Why hello, dearie. How are you today?"

"Oh, I'm doing just fine, Mrs. Cake. Is Pinkie here?" Twilight said as she trotted inside.

"She's in the kitchen. Go right on back, sweetie."

"Thank you." As soon as Twilight's head was through the doorway, a boisterous pink pony popped in front of her.

"Hi Twilight! Wanna cupcake?" she said as she shoved a whole cupcake into Twilight's mouth.

"Mmphingie, phe don haf dime."

"What was that, Twilight? I don't speak cupcake," the pink pony said with an innocent smile.

Twilight swallowed the mouthful of cake in one gulp, "Pinkie, we don't have time for cupcakes. Celestia wants to see us in the castle immediately. I need you to get Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash while I get Rarity."

"Okie dokie Lokie." Pinkie said, bouncing alongside Twilight as they walked back to the front. "I'll be taking my break now, Mrs. Cake."

"Alright, dearie. I'll see you later." Mrs. Cake said, waving as Twilight and Pinkie exited.

Outside, Twilight said to Pinkie, "Alright, once you get them, meet us in the square, by the fountain."

"Okay, see you then," Pinkie said before bouncing away. Twilight galloped off in the opposite direction.

Inside Carousel Boutique, a white unicorn mare with a curly purple mane was circling a mannequin wearing an outfit adorned with several varieties of gemstones.

"Oooh, it's missing something, but what?" she said as she stomped a hoof. Her voice had an air of sophistication to it. Just then there was a knock on the door. "Coming," she sang as she trotted over to it.

When she opened the door, there stood Twilight, panting slightly. "Oh hello, Twilight. What can I do for you?"

After regaining her breath, Twilight said, "We all need to go to Canterlot immediately."

The white unicorn's eyes lit up, "Oooh, a trip to Canterlot? Oh I love going there."

"Rarity."

"The glamor!"

"Rarity."

"The sophistication!"

"Rarity!"

"The fashion!"

"RARITY!"

"Hmm?"

"We're not going to shop. Celestia wants to see us ASAP."

"Princess Celestia? Well, why didn't you say so?" Rarity trotted over to a large vanity against the wall and picked up a brush with her magic. After a few strokes through her mane, she turned back to Twilight. "All right, I'm ready. Let's go." Twilight and Rarity trotted off towards the center of town.

"All right, we're here. Now what's so important that you had to interrupt my nap," said a sky blue pegasus with a rainbow colored mane, slightly annoyed at being woken up.

"Princess Celestia wants to see us all in the castle as soon as possible, so I gathered you all here so I could teleport us," answered Twilight.

"I-is that s-safe," asked a yellow pegasus with long pink hair, barely above a whisper.

"Absolutely, at least I think so," said Twilight, "Now everypony hold still, it shouldn't take too long." She grimaced as she began focusing her magical power into her horn while invisioning herself and her friends inside the castle. After a few seconds, she released the magic, causing a bright flash. When she opened her eyes, she found herself in the foyer of the castle, at the bottom of the steps. She looked around and saw that her friends had made it as well.

"Welcome, Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash," said the majestic voice of a woman. Twilight looked up to the stairs to see a tall, snow white alicorn wearing a crown and a large piece around her neck. Her mane and tail looked like a pastel rainbow and seemed to flow with the solar wind, sparkling in the sunlight. "Please come with me, I have much to explain."

The six ponies walked through the castle, following the princess in silence. They were walking down a long hallway with windows placed every yard or so along the wall. Twilight was beginning to feel antsy.

"So, what is it that you called us to the castle for? You said in your letter that something bad is going to happen soon." said Twilight, not able to keep quiet any longer. Celestia stopped and sighed, dropping her head down.

"Do you all remember Discord?"

Applejack answered, "Of course we do, how could anypony forget him?"

"You would be surprised what goes forgotten." Celestia continued, "Twilight, would you please give us a brief summary of how Discord was first imprisoned in stone."

"Umm, sure. You and your sister Luna used the Elements of Harmony to defeat him and free Equestria." Twilight said, unsure where this was going.

"Very good, that is correct. However, there is much more to it than the history books say."

"W-what do you mean?" asked Fluttershy

Celestia turned to face her audience, "I mean, it was not quite that easy. We did not simply swoop in and defeat him just like that. When we found Equestria, and we saw how powerful Discord was, we knew that we could not defeat him all on our own. So we started a rebellion against him. We gathered up as many soldiers as we could, and we waged war."

"But what does that have to do with us?" asked Rainbow Dash

"I'll get to that. Apparently Discord found the prospect of war boring and tedious, so instead of commanding his army himself, he used his powers to create two demigod minions to fight the war for him."

"Created? But how is that possible?" asked Rarity.

"Discord's powers were much greater then. When he broke free a year ago, I noticed that the chaos he created was nothing compared to what he had made when he ruled. If he were to break free again, his powers of chaos would be even weaker.

Soon after the war started, I was able to attack Discord myself. During our battle, I attempted to cast a spell that would banish him to a shadow realm for eternity. I fired the spell, but his minions blocked it, saving their master, but causing themselves to be banished. The war went on for a few more years and Discord was defeated."

"That still doesn't explain why we're here." said Rainbow Dash.

"My power was also much greater then, because I was connected to The Elements. When you six became the Bearers of The Elements and I was disconnected, my magic was weakened. After millenia of raising and lowering the sun, it does not require as much magic as it used to. Maintaining a banishment spell does, however. This morning, my connection to the spell broke, effectively canceling it."

"What does that mean?" asked Pinkie Pie

"It means that they are free. We do not have much time before they come after Luna and I."

"Why isn't any of this in the books?" asked Twilight.

"Like I said, you would be surprised what goes forgotten."

A white pegasus stallion clad in royal armor suddenly came galloping down the hallway. While he was running he yelled, "YOUR HIGHNESS, APPLELOOSA IS UNDER ATTACK!"
