The hot summer sun beat down on his neck as he pounded nails into the two-by-four. Eric stopped to wipe the sweat from his brow to stop it from running into his aqua-blue eyes.

"Hey, Eric, take a break!" A gryphon yelled, sweat glistening off his shirtless, muscular body.

For some reason, Eric the cougar couldn't help but stare at him for a moment. He thought back to the other night, when he had drilled some chick. They had climaxed multiple times, but it had been a meaningless night. Eric didn't know what, but he knew that there was something missing from his life. And he kept feeling these strange urges that he couldn't control...

He shook his head, and took his lunch break. Theo, the gryphon, sat next to him. "Hey, man, what's up? You look down."

Eric shook his head. "Nothing, man. I'm fine," he lied.

Theo was the only guy at the construction site who was nice to Eric. He was at least seven years older than him, but the two had sort of become friends. They had become even friendlier with each other when Eric had joined the support group for the GLBT community. Theo was gay, and proud of it.

He was big, too, standing at about seven feet tall and weight over 220 pounds; and he was all muscle. His black jeans were ripped and dirty, and he never wore shoes or socks. He was always smiling, and making jokes with Eric. He always put on a tough guy front, but was actually pretty soft inside.

Eric felt guilty for lying, because Theo had always been so nice to him. However, Eric wasn't sure, but he thought that he was developing feelings for Theo. This confused him, because he'd always been straight.

"Hey, Theo, Eric, you two gets a lucky break!" Their boss, a wart hog, yelled over at them. "I've got sum extra hands today, so you two's gets the rest of the day off!"

"You got it boss!" Theo replied. He turned to Eric. "Hey, want to go out to lunch? There's this nice burger place I'm sure you'll like. We can head over to my place afterwards and hang out."

"Um, okay." Eric said shyly. Theo was always so straight-forward. It was something that Eric loved about him. Eric was like that with girls, but around guys like Theo he just never had the courage.

Theo led him over to his car, and they drove over to the burger place for lunch.

They sat down with their orders and began eating when Theo said, "So, what are your plans outside of construction? I know you don't enjoy it, so there's gotta be something you're interested in. You're a student, aren't you?"

"Yeah, I'm a student. School starts up again in about a week." He took a bite of his burger, chewed and swallowed it. "And you're right, I hate construction. Still, it pays the bills, though. Anyways, I want to become a paramedic someday. You know, help people and save lives."

"Hey, that's pretty cool!"

"How about you? What are you interested in, outside of construction?"

"Me? Ah, I tried to study in school a while back so that I could become an architect, but I had to drop out 'cause I couldn't afford school. I've been meaning to go back, but I just never got around to it."

"Really?" You should go back."

Theo smiled. "Maybe someday."

Once they had finished eating, the pair drove over to Theo's house.

"Make yourself at home." The gryphon threw his stuff be the coffee table and went into his bedroom, shutting the door.

Eric put his stuff by Theo's and sat on the sofa, his paws in his lap. He looked around the room.

In Theo's living room were a big screen TV, a Wii console, surround sound, a universal remote, the plush sofa, and an antique coffee table.

Eric was staring at the Wii console when Theo walked out in a pair of clean black shorts.

"You're a gamer?" he blurted out.

Theo blushed. "Believe it or not, I'm actually pretty nerdy. I take it you are too?"

Eric nodded, a little embarrassed.

"You wanna play some Smash Bros?"

"Uh, sure!"

Theo started up the game, and the two of them played into the evening. Theo checked his watch.

"Hey, it's getting late."

"You want me to go?" Eric's ears flattened against his head a little.

"No, man, I was gonna ask if you wanted to order pizza or something."

"Oh..." Eric perked up. "Yeah, sure, I'd love too!"

Theo smiled. "Great! I'm kinda bored of the game. Wanna see what's on TV?"

"Sure, I don't mind."

Theo got on his phone and ordered the pizza. Soon, the two of them ate while they watched a traditional American sitcom.

It got later and later, and eventually the two decided to watch an old western film.

As the night progressed, Eric couldn't help but find himself staring at Theo more and more . He didn't understand why he was doing this, but Theo either didn't notice or didn't care; so he didn't stop himself.

It was during one of these moments that Theo put his arm around Eric. He almost jumped out of his skin, but then Theo turned to look at him and smiled, returning his gaze to the TV.

Eric was feeling both uncomfortable and very comfortable beneath Theo's arm, which confused him immensely. However, he didn't feel in any way unsafe or anything like that, so he let Theo keep his arm around him.

Soon, the movie ended and Theo turned off the TV.

"Eric, are you into me?"

Eric was speechless at the directness of the question, and he didn't answer right away.

"Um, I don't know..." Eric said. "I'm a little confused by it all."

Theo looked into Eric's jade-green eyes for a few moments, and then leaned in and kissed him.

Eric was surprised, but what he was even more surprised by was that all his instincts were telling him to give into the kiss. So he did.

Theo broke off the kiss. "So, what do you think now?"

"Um, well, I think so. You see, I've uh, I've never though about another guy... like that... before."

"Ah, I see. Don't worry, it's okay."

Eric was silent, awkwardly looking down.

"Do you wanna spend the night?" Theo smiled.

Eric smiled nervously. "Um, sure. I'd like that."

The gryphon smiled, his tail swaying back and forth. "Great."

He leaned forward and kissed the cougar again, this time deepening the kiss. He put one set of talons behind Eric's head, and the other up his shirt.

Eric lay back on the sofa and let himself melt into the gryphon, not understanding why he enjoyed this, but knowing that deep inside it somehow felt right.

Theo's talons started to go down his shirt and began to unbutton his pants.

"Hey, wait," Eric said, breaking the kiss.

"What's wrong?" Theo stopped, a puzzled look on his face.

"Um, I'm not sure I'm ready to, um, go there, uh, not yet. It's just all too, uh, fast and ..."

At this point, Theo put a single talon over Eric's muzzle. "Shh. It's okay, I understand. You're not ready yet. I can respect that. I won't pressure you."

Eric nodded in thanks.

Theo yawned. "Hey, why don't we go to bed?"

"All right." Eric shifted on the couch, getting ready to lie down.

Theo laughed. "C'mon, the bed's way better than the couch." He gestured to his bedroom.

Eric hesitated.

"I promise I won't try anything, and we can sleep with clothes on."

Eric nodded, and followed his host into the bedroom.

They lay down in Theo's bed together, fully clothed despite the summer heat, and Eric fell asleep almost instantly.

Theo was drifting off to sleep when he felt Eric stir in his sleep. Suddenly, the cougar was curled up in the gryphon's arms. Theo smiled, pulled him in closer, and fell asleep.
