Could this be the start of a real partnership? Probably not.

I had a bit of a difficult time typing this out as I switched from third person perspective back to first person.

THE GUARDIANS SHADOW

Part 2 Chapter 3

With a large bucket of chicken and a few drinks, the two jumped back on the Hunter's bike and sped off back towards the Storage Unit. At first I really didn't know what to get, but after realizing again that the Renamon species of Digital Monsters looked like some kind of Humanoid Fox, they would probably like the same things as humans as well as foxes. With those thoughts, it was an easy decision to that of chicken and by the way that the Dark Renamon was licking her lips, probably from the smell, it was the right decision.

By the time that we'd gotten back to the storage unit did I find that several pieces of from the bucket were missing and it wasn't hard to think of whom, especially with the slight grease marks on the corners of her mouth. It would have been even more comical, when I tried to take the bucket away from her only to get a growl from her as she clutched the bucket tight to her chest, bur for the fact that he was hungry too. "I didn't buy that bucket just for you, you stupid fox, now hand it over before...," the only reply or response I got was another deep growl from the fox and I knew that this would defiantly be a problem.

A little while later and few scratches more, I sat down in my chair and looked over the monitors. 'Damn that fox. She really is possessive of her food, even if she didn't kill it in the first place.' Not one to admit defeat he'd finally gotten several pieces and munched on them in silence as I sped through the footage of the day that we'd missed while out, making sure that we didn't miss anything that would help us in the future.

After a while I finally let out a long sigh and held up the small notepad I'd been writing on and looked over it. Upon the paper were the names and ranks of all the Digital Monsters I'd seen come and go from the building. Not many of them were above that of a Rookie class/level, but that didn't mean that they could evolve/Digivolve into one of their more...advanced forms. 'If they are stronger than what they appear to be, it must be to keep them from growing too big or avoid an incident if something were to happen and set them off or attack something/someone.' With that though down I then began to further my notes and jot down what each level would the rookies evolve into if they were strong enough.

By the time that I'd finished a long yawn escaped my mouth and I turned to look at the clock at the bottom corner of the screen. 'No wonder I'm tired, it's past 11 at night. I'll have to get some sleep if I want to stay fresh for tomorrow.' Turning around I saw that the Digital fox had probably had the same idea and was or appeared to be sleep where she'd sat down. The whole thing was made a slight bit humorous when I also saw that she still had a death grip upon the bucket that only had a couple pieces of chicken left within. A brief thought passed through my head of stealing a few more pieces of chicken from the sleeping fox, but I decided against it as I've had had enough of the stinging wounds from the last time I'd taken a few pieces from the fox.

Going over to the far side of the unit I opened up a small chest and strung up a simple hammock and was lightly dozing in the next few minutes, but I didn't stay that way, as shortly after I found something moving within the unit. Slightly cracking open an eye I noticed that the fox was no longer asleep upon that of the desk, rather it was now moving over to me. It was almost as if the thing were sleep walking, but I found that not possible as I saw it stop in front of me and stare at me. "Where's mine?" She asked in a bit of an angered tone.

It took him a moment to realize what was going on here, but my hand didn't leave the grip that I had on the knife concealed under my pillow. "And what makes you think that there's another one of whatever you're thinking about?" I asked but knew that she was actually referring to the hammock that I was currently occupying.

"Do you honestly expect me to sleep upon that hard desk of yours?" She asked rhetorically and through the thin bit of light in the unit I could see that a slight snarl was scrunching up the end of her muzzle.

I knew that this would only end up in a fight, but the problem still remained that I only had one hammock left and I was sure as hell wasn't giving up to someone/thing like her. "You looked perfectly comfortable there, what changed. A little jealous are we?" This only seemed to infuriate her further, but I knew that I didn't want a fight, not in such close quarters and this late at night. "Look, there is only one of these and one 'person' has already occupied it. Why don't you take the chair, it's nice and comfortable and..." I quickly fell silent the glow from the Dark Renamon's red eyes began to shine a little deeper shade of red. There weren't that many things that unnerved me but a set of glowing red eyes in the deep darkness was definitely one of those.

"Just move over Hunter. I know that you won't give up that sleeping thing that easily and I'm too tired to fight over it." To say the least I was quite surprised at this. Not having a fight over something that the Dark Renamon wanted was definitely a first. Though not wanting to fight ether, I simply turned/rolled over to my other side and waited to see what would come next. It wasn't until the thing had settled into the hammock did I feel her softness of her furry form against my back. "Now don't you get any ideas there Hunter, this is only for tonight. I expect that tomorrow that you'll have another one of these things set up so that I can get my own proper bed." And as if to accentuate or punctuate that she lightly jabs one of her sharpened nails into my side. "Got it!" But I don't reply as hope to fane sleep and keep my eyes closed tight.

It is several hours later that I'm awoken to a slight buzzing in my ear. It takes me a moment or two to realize what that sound is, and I realize that it's my alarm buzzer going off. 'I don't remember setting that.' I think, but after a while I remember that I'd set it some time ago to go off at this time in order to keep me from sleeping in or surprised by any early risers, to which I turn my attention to the one I've sharing my bed/hammock with. 'I must still be dreaming.' I thought as my brain is telling me that now, instead of us having our backs to each other, she's turned around and now pressing her front against my back. Almost as if she's snuggling up to me.

With that realization I practically freeze up, wondering if my mind is playing tricks on me, but I quickly throw that idea out when she snuggles her head into the crook of my neck and breathe softly into my ear. It was almost too much for me to take without me giving out a shout and falling out of the hammock, but the thing that made me stop was the warm feeling. The feeling of having a soft/warm body pressed up against my own, the feeling of having someone else to share a bed with, the feeling of... I quickly shook my head to clear it of such thoughts, but in doing so awakening the slumbering Dark Renamon.

"What the...?" Were her first words, but that was promptly followed by her literally shoving me, and making me fall out of the hammock. "What the hell Hunter! Why the...how did we..." She then began to mutter under her breath while I, unceremoniously, picked myself up off the floor and glared down at her. I only did so for a moment before an evil thought/repayment came across my mind and I smirked down at the Digital/Humanoid looking fox. She only stopped mutter to herself when she noticed that I'd grabbed the side of the hammock and was beginning to lift it up.

"Throw me out of bed will ya? I think it only right for me to return the favor." And with that he promptly upturned the bed and dumped the wide eyed fox out of the bed and onto the floor. Slowly walking around he found that the Digital fox was slowly getting herself righted and as he stood over her I looked down at her and scowled. "And before you ask, it was you who cuddled up to me. I was still lying on my side, facing away from you." That caused her to stop rubbing her lower back and look up at me in shock, as if not believing what I'd said.

For the rest of the morning, as we did our respective things, not a word was spoken between the two of us. For myself, it was spent going over the footage of the previous night, while the Dark Renamon it was spent in contemplation of the events of the morning. Though every time she'd open her mouth to say something against what I'd claimed happened that morning, she came back to the same realization that it'd been her that had cuddled up to me and not the other way around.

I could see that she was greatly confused by it all, as I could see her through the reflection on my computer screen. Her face would slightly scrunch up near her eyes for a moment, as if she thought about something she didn't like, and then it would all smooth out to look like her blank/smooth face. It almost brought a smile to my face, seeing her so conflicted with her own emotions and such, but I hid the smirk away and concentrated on the task at hand. Speeding up the recording a bit I noted the same people come in for work and noted down a few others who were leaving for the morning. 'Probably those Graveyard shift guys,' I thought as I marked down their appearance as well as if they had digital partners or not.

This continued for another day or so, but through it all, not much transpired. It wasn't until the Dark Renamon's complaints started to get on my nerves that I was prompted to act. "Alright, already! If you're so bored, why don't you go do something productive?!"

"Like what? You said yourself that I wasn't really to leave this place, as I, 'Stand out so much." She said in a bit of a snarky like attitude, to which I really couldn't fault her for.

"Like this." I said as he reached into my pocket and pulled out a handful of small electronic devices. "I have pinpointed the office where our quarry is. It would greatly help us if we could get eyes and ears in there to spy on her and learn when and where it would be best to strike at her." I upturned my hand and watched as the small devices fell into the Dark Renamon's upturned furry palm.

Selecting one at random the Dark Renamon held one up to her eye and peered at it. "There little devices will allow you to do that?" She then replaced the small thing back into her palm and looked down at the Hunter.

"For the most part..., yes. The ones that look to have a simple or tiny camera lens are used to look or watch, while the ones that have a tiny microphone are used for listening." I turned around in my chair and selected one of each out of her hand. "If you want to put it simply, it's a game of hide and seek. We place these devices in her office and the longer it takes for her to find them, the more we get to spy on her."

"To what end then? I mean, why don't we just go up there and attack her right now?" She asked in such a way that left little to the imagination that she was just itching for a fight.

I slowly lowered and shook my head. 'It was no wonder that she was so easily defeated by the overly large Graymon.' "Walking on up to her and beating her up won't help or do us any good. If we're seen doing that we could be thrown, or I could be thrown into jail, while your furry backside will be deleted." This caused her eyes to go wide and look upon me with a bit more respect. Holding up one of the devices again I nodded to her. "But, if we're able to get or catch her on tape or video, doing something illegal, then we are free to move in and do some damage."

This got the Dark Renamon to smile and she watched as I replaced the two devices back into her palm. "Then tell me what you want me to do?"

(Several hours later Dark Renamon's Perspective)

The lights of Vegas had come on again as the sun set beyond the Western sky. The sight of which would cause some people to stop as, as the sun set it lit up the clouds in several different shades of reds and oranges. Though all of this was lost to the Dark Renamon as she crouched down upon the upper portion of a nearby building, looking up at the place she needed to go. The building adjacent wasn't that far of a leap and wouldn't be that big of a problem to jump too, it was the next part that she'd needed to use her natural gifts to accomplish. So there she waited, waited for the sun to set and her other natural abilities to come into play.

"Sun should be setting in a few minutes." She heard a voice speak in her ear. It was the Hunters voice and she couldn't be more annoyed if she tried. 'And here I thought that I'd be able to get away from him for a while, but no, I have him just shouting at me through that little bug thing in my ear from several miles away.'

"I think I know when the sun sets Hunter." She growled into the microphone that wrapped around her neck. "Just shut up and let me work!" This time her growl was audible and she crouched down a little more and tensed up the muscles in her legs. It wasn't until she felt the sun finally set beyond the horizon that she leapt out from her hiding place, like that of a coiled spring that'd just been undone from its clasp, and with that she sailed upwards and towards the roof of her target building. Though as she neared the apex of her jump she reached out with her claws and sunk them into the lip of the roof and hung there for a moment.

Ever so slowly she pulled herself up and peered over the lip of the roof to gaze upon the top of the building. 'Good, not a sole human or Digimon in sight.' With that she pulled herself up a bit more then summersaulted forward/over the lip of the roofs edge and stopped in a crouching position, ready for anything to come at her. After awaiting a few more seconds to see if anyone had heard her or if she'd set of any alarms, she slowly got to her feet and approached the door that would lead downwards and into the building proper. "Don't use the door to the roof. It's set with alarms to go off if anyone were to use it to enter or exit the building." The Renamon froze right there as she looked down and saw that her paw was just about to the point where the latch on the door would click and allow her entry.

"Then what do you suggest Hunter? I burrow into the floor and come out of the roof?" She retorted as she stepped away from the door and began to tap her foot.

"Teleport." The Hunter's voice stated simply and to which caused her left eyelid to twitch in annoyance.

"As if, Hunter. I don't know what lies beyond this door. I could teleport myself right into a wall for all I know."

"Then, if that's too much of a risk, then fall down the side of the building and teleport into her office from just outside her window." She was about to say something snarky back to that but realized that the Hunter did have a point. Since she didn't want to risk jumping through a wall to possibly end up in a wall, the next best thing would be to jump through a window so she could see where she'd end up and get in that way. Walking on over to the lip of the roof, her tail twitching in annoyance that the Hunter knew about her abilities and had out thought her uses of them, she look down and towards the corner office where their target worked. With a dive that would've made a high-diver proud, the Dark Renamon leapt off the building and summersaulted through the air.

With cat like reflexes, she righted herself a few floors above the window, and just as the window came into view did her eyes snap open and her form dissipate. A moment later her form re-materialize right in the office and she shook herself with odd sensation of having her code break up for that fraction of a second to only reconstruct itself a moment later. She found herself in a kneeling position and as she slowly righted herself, she began to look about the room. The office was what you'd typically find in that of a corner office, lavishly furnished, sparkly decorated with expensive pictures and furniture, and what appeared to be a very comfortable chair that looked custom made behind a very expensive and polished oak desk that just itched at her to sharpen her claws upon. "Alright, I'm inside her office. Now where was it that you wanted me to place these things?" She asked in a quiet voice as she remembered the Hunter's warning of not making any noise that'd attract any unwanted attention, 'As if I would be caught dead making any noise in the first place.'

For the next several minutes, she followed the Hunter's instruction and placed different devices into small places all about the office. Once she'd place the last device inside the telephone did she stand up and look about the room and the work that she'd done. "Now for the last test." He said to which she nodded and walked over to the desk and gave it a slight nocking to with her knuckles. "Perfect. Heard that as clear as a bell. Now get out of there before anyone comes and notices what we've done."

Without another word, she quickly ran towards the window and with a leap and a teleport she was outside the building. She only fell a short distance before she teleported once again and was quickly running off along the rooftops back towards the storage unit where she knew a large bucket of chicken was awaited her return.
