Chapter 5: Hidden Love

***

(Mira)

It was getting later in the day. Shortly after Sam had left, I went and took a quick nap to make up for the sleep lost over my rifle. I had another one of those dreams but this time it was more vivid. I wasn't able to decide what Skyve did. Despite him supposed to be part of my mind, he had his own will.

As usual, when I woke up, I cried for a couple of seconds out of sheer frustration. I was convinced that I was the only reason Skyve broke up with me. I did something, sometime that was wrong that upset him. It was my fault and I couldn't apologise.

After finally getting dressed, I started in with my second Nekomata pistol. I took the slide off and opened up the top of the pistol. After examining the slide for deformation or corrosion, I attempted to take the firing pin out. This is where I encountered the only problem on this pistol: the firing pin was a bitch to take out. I popped off the safety cover and took my multitool and shoved the flat headed screwdriver into the side of the firing pin assembly. The trick was to pry the firing pin out without having bent it or having the spring shoot it out. I worked the screwdrive, twisting it when suddenly, with a quiet ping, the firing pin shot out, flying into the open door of Skyve's room.

Swearing, I got up and went to retrieve the pin. I entered Skyve's room and my sensitive draconian nose picked up his familiar scent. There was something glittering under the bed so I retrieved it. I couldn't believe what I found.

A glass tulip. The same one that Skyve made for me in his industrial arts class for Ky'ram just before we broke up. The same one I returned out of spite after we broke up. I searched along the base of the frozen bloom and found it's trademark words.

_To my love Mira,

May you find love whereever you go.

From Skyve._

I gingerly pulled it out, making sure not to break the delicate stem and leaves. The tulip was my favorite flower because it was what six month old Lacyus brought me when I was recovering after begin struck by lightening. He pulled it out of mom's garden and gave it to me, roots, dirt clods and all. That was the nicest thing anyone had done for me and not even Skyve could top it. I could remember it vividly. Little Lacyus holding it out with shaking hands, eyes brimming with tears because he was scared I was going to die. Skyve was the only other one in my life other than my parents that knew Lacyus did that for me. He gave the glass tulip to me because on Ky'ram, I was having surgery done on several broken ribs I got in a fight.

As I stood up I noticed another thing. As with any boyfriend, Skyve had a picture of him, as a human, and Mary. But it was on his desk and it was in a plain square frame. Sitting on his nightstand was a picture of him and I at our high school's Snow Ball the year after he asked me to be his mate. His arm was wrapped around me, holding me in a loving embrace. What's more was it was in a heart shaped frame.

There was a click and the front door opened. Skyve called out from it. "I hate my boss."

I wandered out of his bedroom, holding the tulip. "I found this." I murmured, still in shock over finding this and the picture.

Skyve flushed red and began to stammer. "I-i-it was one of m-m-y best works. I-I-I wanted to keep it."

"Do you still have feelings for me?"

Skyve avoided my eyes and tried to skirt around me. I cut him off. "Please, Mira."

I felt my heart start to beat faster. "Do you still love me?"

Skyve looked me in the eye. "Yes."

"Why Mary?"

Skyve's eyes dropped sadly. "Mary's name is actually Muurui. She's a dragon too and my parents planned fiancee for me. They don't want me to see anybody but her. That's why I broke up with you." I saw Skyves eyes tear up a bit. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry Mira. I love you but I can't be your mate. I..... I.... I'm sorry. I hate Muurui. She's just a zombie. She follows every trend. You, you're so beautiful and different, a bounty hunter for crying out loud. I love you. I love how you talk, how you carry yourself, your free spirit, everything."

(Skyve)

I couldn't believe what I just said. I had admitted that I loved Mira, but that was extremely taboo in draconian society. To love another when you were engaged was seen a mark of dishonesty. Affairs, unless they were permitted by the other, were often punished by being disowned from a family. Some families went so far as to "cleanse" impurities from a family. Dragons would disappear and their head would turn up at the mistress' house.

Mira started backing up and set the tulip down on the living room table. Mira's lips moved and she whispered something. Her eyes were full of tears. She whispered something again. Then suddenly she shrieked. "I HATE YOU!!!"

Mira never really got upset enough to cry. But she had a habit of just lashing out at anyone when she was deeply upset. She dashed into her room and buried her head into her pillow, wailing and sobbing. I stood at the door way, listening. After about a minute, I started to try and make myself feel less guilty by doing pointless chores. I washed dishes that didn't need washing. I clean the bathroom that Mira cleaned up earlier.

Mira eventually quieted down, laying motionless on her bed. I gradually approached her, knowing her words had no meaning behind them, and knelt down beside. As she got older, Mira's scales had lightened from her old hot pink and navy blue to a pastel pink and blue. She opened her eyes, tear stains running down her cheeks.

"I hate Mary. I hate her. If she could just damn well leave us alone, we could be happy. And love each other."

I nodded. "I know." I sat silent for a moment before leaning forward and affectionately kissing Mira on her cheek. "I love you."

Mira slowly sat up. "I need time to think." She sat up and picked her purse up, transforming into Maria. "Away from you." She stood up and I walked with her to the door. "I love you too." And with that she left.

The phone rang and I picked it up. "Hello?"

Mary's voice came across the other side. "Hey love."

My heart sank. "Oh, hey Mary."

Mary's voice grew concerned. "What's wrong honey."

I sighed. "Just thinking."

"Are you thinking about her again?" Mary's voice grew suspicious.

"Yes."

Mary grew angry. "You are supposed to love me now! She should be nothing to you! Mira was just a no good slut and a whore and a bitch! You'll love me forever, OKAY!!!"

Something snapped in me. What she said about Mira was beyond my tolerance. In my entire life, I hd never been more pissed at one single person. "FUCK OFF! Do not ever fucking call Mira that you bitch! I loved her ten times more than I did ever with you. I never loved you! You hear me!?!? NEVER! You made Mira cry, goddammit! She was crying for me! I felt the same goddamn way! You're just a fucking bitch that just wants a wyvern as a mate! You're not even interested in love! You just fucking sweettalked me so I wouldn't leave!" Mary began to say something, just as angry as I was but my roar won. "SHUT UP YOU BITCH! Never call me love or honey or sweetie again! No, never talk to me again! Hell, if I ever hear your fucking voice again, it'll be too soon! In fact, if I ever have to lay eyes on you again, it'll be TOO FUCKING SOON!!! So once and for all GOOD, FUCKING, BYE!!!!"

I slammed the phone down into it's holder, the plastic creaking and popping as I squeezed it to the point of the case breaking. My mind was filled to the brim with anger. I flew over to the window, threw it open and let out the loudest, longest howl of anger I have ever done, a deep-throated draconian howl. When I ran out of breath, I simply took another and continued to howl. After I finished howling, I stormed over to my bed and roared into my pillow.

After a good fifteen minutes of venting my anger, I calmed down, tired and hoarse voiced after the incident. My mind slowly realized what I did. I had broken the chain that was holding me from Mira. No, I didn't just break it, I snapped every link.

The door clicked and Maria walked in. She transformed back into Mira. She walked into her room and I could hear her starting to undress. At that point, it felt like my heart was going to burst. I rushed out of my room and into hers. Mira was minus her shirt bra and she was in the process of removing her pants when I burst in.

Mira squeaked and tried desperately to cover her breasts and panties. "KNOCK FIRST!!!!"

"I dumped Mary!" I blurted, unable to control my mouth.

Mira went slack with shock. "You..... Dumped...... Mary......" She whispered.

I nodded.

"So.... We can be mates..... Again......."

I nodded.

"And you can love me."

"I'll do anything you want to apologise to you Mira!"

Mira launched herself at me laughing and crying. We kissed, holding each other closely. I gently took her and laid her down on the bed. We broke our kiss and I gently nuzzled her like I used to.

"I love you Mira."

"I love you too Skyve." Mira smiled. "I'm wondering if we could do what we did before."

I gave an amused smile. "What do you mean?"

"I remember, you used to give the best back rubs to me."

I kissed her. "Well, let's see if I can still do that."

Mira rolled onto her belly and I began to gently massage her back. She purred and smiled. "Mmmmmm, yeah, like that."

Despite having only two fingers and a thumb due to my arm/wing fusion, I was able to give a good massage. Mira groaned and purred, arching her back.

"I take it you like that?" I said, smiling.

"Yeah...." Mira sighed. "I've been craving one of these for so long."

There was a knocking at the door and I transformed into Samuel and opened it. My best human friend Mike stood there.

"What's up?" I asked.

"I was wondering if you coud help me jumpstart my car so I can take it to the mechanics." He smiled sheepishly.

"One sec." I turned back and saw Maria poking her head out of the door. She made a go-ahead jesture. "Yeah, sure."

It took us about 15 minutes to get the jumpstart done. After we finished, we just took our time to catch up. I was in the midst of telling him about me falling in love with Maria again.

"Yeah, I don't blame ya. Mary's a bitch. She only like guys if they've got a hot car or they're rich." Mike said, nodding in understanding. "She has no right to call Maria a whore. She's the furthest thing from. But let me get this straight. Maria was your girlfriend from grade nine to the beginning of twelve, right?"

"Right."

"And your parents made you break up with her because she wanted to be a reserve soldier?"

"Yeah. They thought it was 'very unlady-like'."

Mike laugh quietly and shook his head. "Well, I gotta admit, I'm jealous. Maria's so damn sexy and friendly, even if she's a bit of a tomboy. And you not only get to bunk with her, but you're her boyfriend. I would kill to be in that kinda situation." He sighed. "Well, I better go. Good luck to the two of you and tell Maria I think she made a good choice."

With that Mike jumped into his car and drove off. I ran back up the stairs, eager to get back to Mira. I paused at the door when I heard a beautiful melodic sound floating through the air. Inside, Mira was singing softly. It took me a moment to realize that she was singing 'Fields of Hope', a Japanese song that had been translated into English. I stood there, listening to her, loving every single note. Singing was Mira's one and only girlish talent. She loved to sing and she always took choir classes in school. Mira could sing almost anything, from lullabies to pop songs and everything inbetween.

I opened the door and Mira spotted me and stopped. I frowned and transformed. "Keep going."

Mira shook her head. "No. I'm gonna screw up."

I walked over and hugged her, giving her a loving kiss. Mira's only problem with singing was she lacked confidence. She hated to sing in front of anyone if she was alone. "You'll be fine. I love your voice."

Mira shook her head again. "No."

"You won't screw up. The worst that can happen is you'll forget the words."

"No, absolutely not."

I gently let her go and walked away. "Fine, no more kisses for you tonight."

Mira frowned. "Not even a good night kiss?"

"Nope."

I was about to go to my room when Mira took a breath and began singing again. I turned and just looked at her. She was singing a simple Aryian love song. Her voice floated along the air, working it's way to the core of my very being. When she was done, she started blushing.

"I screwed up."

I smiled and kissed her. "No you didn't. That was beautiful."

She shook her head. "I missed a couple of sharps. It sucked."

"I never noticed." Honestly, she sounded like an angel. Mira never missed a note.

She shook her head more insistently. "No, it sucked. I'm not good at singing alone."

I gently raised her head with my finger. "Yes you are. You sound like an angel when you sing. I've never heard you make a mistake."

Mira sighed. "Let's just go to bed."

I frowned and walked into my room. Turning out the light, I crawled into bed. A moment had passed when Mira stood in the doorway.

"What's wrong?" I asked, sitting up.

Mira smiled sheepishly. "Can I sleep with you?"

Her boldness caught me off guard. "Well, sure, I guess."

Mira smiled and crawled into bed, snuggling up against me. I kissed her and gave her a few affectionate licks.

"I love you Mira."

Mira's eyes closed and her breathing slowed. "I love you too Skyve."
