#1 of Old Stuff

This was one of the first stories I had ever written. I wrote this 6 years ago, and has remained unedited since then. I touched up the spelling and grammar just enough to be readable, but the core of the story hasn't changed. The reason for this is that it serves as a reminder to me of how far I have come in my writing.

I hope that you enjoy this nice little story.

This was the day, my life changed forever.

It all started on Sunday night, when I was walking home from a late-night baseball game with my friends. It was dark, and warm. My brown hair was kept out of my face by the light breeze. I was panting and sweating from the hard play and from winning, it was very exciting because I usually wasn't very good at baseball.

I was about halfway home when a strong gust of wind came down on me. It felt like someone with a giant fan had waved it directly above me. Like when a seagull flies right above your head, you feel that small gust of air as it flaps its wings. Well, take that and multiply it by one hundred and that's what I felt. I regained my breath and looked up quickly to see two black shapes above me disappear. They looked like bats.

That's strange, I thought, they looked like bats, but bats don't knock the wind out of you when they fly above you. And the last time I checked, bats didn't have tail's. I got to my feet and started jogging home. On the way I thought about some possibilities, like maybe I was coming down with something, and that the sweat wasn't from the warm night.

I got to my doorstep and quickly forgot about it. I went into my room and sat at my computer and wrote about the successful game, without mentioning the "wind" in my journal.

I could hear my little sister playing her Hilary Duff CD in the room next to mine. I was 14 and my sister was 13, she had a small interest in video games, and since I got my new Nintendo Wii, I was going to give my sister my old Game Cube for her Passing present at school.

"Kids! We are going soon!" mom called.

I folded my laptop to put it on power save mode, and ran towards mom's voice. On my way out, my sister and me collided and we were a tangle of bodies. My sister looked up at me and parted her hair to fix it. I did the same thing, only I wasn't as fussy.

"Hey! Watch where you're going numb-skull," said my sister while she fixed her dirty blond hair.

"Well you aren't exactly miss perfect-sight sis," I said.

My sister and me don't fight very often, but when we do, its all bark and no bite, I could never hurt my little sister, even if she was only a year younger than me.

We both reached the kitchen where mom and dad were dressed in some fancy clothes, and a couple of Rolex's. Mom and dad only wore them on special occasions, and by the look of their clothes, this was an extra special occasion,

"Your father and I are going out tonight," said my mom.

"Its our anniversary," my dad continued.

Both of their green eyes sparkled in the kitchen light, much like my sisters green eyes and mine. Then my dad got down until his face was leveled with mine, my mom did the same with my sister.

"Seth," my father said, "you are now old enough, to inherit my families pendant."

He than handed me a necklace. It had a circle and in the middle of the circle there was a small green crystal ball.

"Thanks dad," I said.

Then my mom handed an identical necklace to my sister and said, "Rachel. You have matured so much, people are always mistaking you for twins when I show them your pictures."

"Our families have carried these pendants for a very long time, which is actually how I met your mother," said dad.

"We probably wont be back until after midnight so I suggest you both get some sleep," said mom, "there is school tomorrow."

And with that, they were out the door and I heard the car roll out of the driveway. It was ten-o-clock and Rachel said, "Well, I'm bored, wanna play some Wii Sports?"

"Sure," I said.

We played video games for about an hour when Rachel said she was tired.

"I'm going to bed, see you in the morning Seth."

"Ok Rachel, I'm going to stay up for a little while, goodnight."

It was about forty-five minutes latter when I started to feel a slight pain in my side. "Damn," I said to myself, "time to stop it with the Wii Sports baseball, must be a cramp."

Just then, I heard a knock at my door. I opened it up to see Rachel; pale and looking a little scared in her Sponge Bob pajama bottoms and a white T-shirt.

"Uh, Seth," said Rachel, "could I sleep in your bed tonight, I had a really bad dream."

This wasn't like my sister at all, especially since she is 13. But I told her, "Sure, just don't hog the covers."

"Thank you Seth. And if it isn't to much trouble, could you get me a pain killer?"

"Sure, I could use one myself."

I went to the medicine cabinet in the bathroom and pulled out two Aspirin tablets and closed the cabinet. When I got back, I opened the door to find my sister, doubled over in pain on my bedroom floor.

"Rachel! What's wro--"

Just then, the pain in my sides grew much worse. My knees hit the ground while I clutched at my sides and everything was in pain, my head felt heavy, my skin felt like it was on fire, and it felt like every bone in my body was broken. I opened both my eyes to stare in horror, at my sister, Rachel, and my own reflection in my mirror.

Both of our skin started to turn green starting at our feet and hands and slowly spread throughout our bodies, followed by what seemed to be scales. My feet became digit-grade and where there were soft toenails, were now sharp claws. The same fingernails were also becoming hard claws.

I felt a pain in my backside as a tail grew from my pelvis covered in the same scale-like pattern on the rest of my body. Then the harder yellow scales from the underside of my tail began to grow upwards covering my stomach, chest and the front part of my neck. The spikes from my tail crawled up my spine and stopped at the back of my neck.

As this happened to both of us, our clothing started to rip apart everywhere. At the seam of our pajama bottom's where our tails grew, the back of our shirts where the spikes grew long and red, and the legs of where our feet became digit-grade.

My muscles ached because they were growing larger and ripped at the rest of my clothes, turning them to shreds. Both my hands clutched my head and I could feel horns growing out of my head. I saw my mouth extend into a snout and my human teeth sharpened into fangs. My ears flattened and became flaps that could open and close to catch sound.

The back of my shirt ripped completely off as two large bat-like wings erupted from my back and one sharp claw formed where wings folded and unfolded.

I collapsed on the floor, tired, worn out from pain, and my vision went black as night. I woke-up to the sound of heavy breathing and found the person who was breathing like they just ran a marathon; it was Rachel. Her transformation was complete; her now very green eyes were wide with fear. I set my clawed hand on the floor beside me and felt a book underneath my hand. I lifted it up to my snout and saw a picture on the cover. I had read this book before; it was about a knight who killed a dragon to rescue a princess from its lair. Then the idea struck me, we had transformed into dragons!

"Rachel," I said, my voice slightly more raspy, "Rachel, if you are afraid of me, then I suggest you don't look in the mirror."

She didn't take my warning and looked anyway. She let out a small screech and tried to get up but fell down because she couldn't walk on her new feet. So she crawled over to me and hugged me, tears ran down her snout and onto the scales on my chest.

"Seth," she sobbed, "I'm scared!"

"Me too," I said, a tear running down my face, "but its all right, everything is going to be all right." I started stroking her head as I spoke to her in the big brotherly way.

" I could really use some of those pain killers now, if it isn't too much trouble," she managed to say between sobs. I looked down and found a small pile of white powder on the floor; I must have crushed the tablets during the transformation.

"Wait here," I said, "I will get some more Aspirin."

I put my hand on the wall for support and tried to stand up and ended up falling down, new legs in the sky as I fell on my back. I tried again, only this time I bent my knees and tried walking on the ball of my clawed feet (or the way I would have if I was human) and surprisingly it worked, but I still kept my hand on the wall for support.

When I got back to my room with the Aspirin, I realized that my sister was naked, so I turned away quickly and knocked on the door. She turned around and said, "Oh, sorry, come in."

I put my claws over my eyes and went inside. "Its ok to look," she said, "its almost as if I'm wearing clothes actually."

I looked and saw that she was right; it was like she was wearing a skintight dragon costume, except for the obvious tail, head, wings and feet. I looked down and saw that all my clothes were gone and that it was like I was wearing a skintight dragon costume too. But I had witnessed the transformation first and third hand, I knew I wasn't wearing any costume.

I sat down in front of Rachel and handed her the Aspirin and said, "Sorry, I couldn't get any water."

"That's ok," she said, and she put it at the end of her snout and swallowed the pill.

While she took the pill, I tested my new dragon parts. I opened and closed my wings, tested my earflaps, flexed my toes on my feet, and wiggled my tail. My tail is what I found the weirdest, it was half the size of me, and it could move everyway my own arm could and more. I tried to stand up and found the tail helped me balance, and then I sat down again.

"I wonder how we are going to explain to mom and dad how we transformed into dragons," I said.

"They will never believe us," said Rachel, I could see by the tear in her eye that she was going to cry again, so I let her lean forward and hug me again. One of the things us big brothers are good at, I thought, being used as tissues and pillow's. Her tears were warm on my chest as she cried.

"Actually," said a voice behind me, "I think we are the ones that have some explaining to do."

I looked up and saw two green figures in the doorway, and on one scaly arm each, was a Rolex.

Funny, I thought, how many dragons do we know who have a Rolex?
