IDENTITY CRISIS - CHAPTER 1 - THE LAZY TAIL

Saudy woke up with a long yawn followed by her typical morning stiff stretch of the arms. Through her drowsy celeste blue eyes, she took a look around the room.

The only light was cast by a mood light on the nightstand which seemed to be broken, since it was a dim white. A modern flat digital clock was face-down beside it, along with a watch. The bed was california king sized, the sheets and blankets thick and of obviously high quality.

In fact, as Saudy's eyes adjusted to the dark, everything seemed expensive. And only in two colors: Black & white. The outside world would say Saudy's tastes are acutely neutral. She also noticed the room was oddly small.

"Oh right, my apartment." Saudy said to herself nonchalantly.

Propping on her right arm she slid her blankets off and looked herself over, finding an impressive eyeful of bare pale skin, well rounded bosom, voluptuous hips, slim figure, long straight white hair, her bushy white tail with a black tip, and morning wood. Kitsune were known for shapechanging into whatever or whomever they wanted, with working parts, yet Saudy couldn't ever remember being different than this. Saudy's hands and feet were fur covered and clawed as well. Her hair and fur were actually Alice Blue; a shade of off-white that sheen is blue, kind of like ice in the ocean. Saudy's white fox ears flickered as she noticed the silence.

"Was it always this quiet?" Saudy queried her brain. Her brain quickly answered. "Duh. Soundproofed. I think the previous owners liked to party."

After her piece was put away back in it's sheath, Saudy slowly swung her legs out of bed and stood up. Giving another big stretch and yawn, followed by a lovely scratch behind her pointy fox ears, she moved over to the dresser to get something to make herself decent, settling on some black baggy sweat pants and a black tube top Saudy could just slip on. It was going to be a lazy day.

Saudy turned on the light as she moved to leave the room, opening her door to more darkness. letting the light from her room guide her, she turned left and felt along the hallway for the light switch. She couldn't feel one.

"How the hell do I turn the lights on?" Saudy said irritatedly.

On verbal command, the lights turned on in the apartment showing the blank white walls and black carpet. Saudy was shocked for only a second, mainly because she didn't realize how groggy she really was. Was this the only thing she'd forgotten?

Moving into the kitchen, it was more of the same; black and white tiled floor that her claws clicked on, black appliances and counter tops that shined brightly, white cupboards stocked to the brim with goods. Would you believe the kitchenware was all black and white as well?

Saudy grabbed a cup and started up her cappuccino machine, wondering how people could drink nasty coffee. Her favorite drink was Black & White Chocolate Mocha with whip cream. Getting the ingredients together she mixed herself up the mocha with expert skill, despite the groggy feeling, then dropped an ice cube in before taking a sip.

"Mmmm..." Saudy cooed, her tail swishing happily. "Now I just need some music on."

Once again, on command, 'I'm Making Believe' by The Inkdots came on from hidden speakers all over the house at a low volume. One of her favorite bands! Humming the tune, Saudy went across the hallway to the living room. No surprise, all the furniture was white leather. Sitting in a lazy chair, Saudy took another sip of her beverage before picking up yesterdays newspaper.

"Such an interesting world I live in..." Saudy thought as she browsed the paper.

Indeed, the world was very interesting! Saudy lived in the mega city Kyahto, the capital of Yipan; a country that ruled with money and technology, and you couldn't live here without it! Everywhere you looked was a new business springing up with the latest, greatest technology.

Saudy sighed as she laid back, setting the paper back down and picking up her almost empty drink. 'Thoughtless' had just started playing, making Saudy think of her current position.

Now that she thought about it, being more awake, this room and kitchen area were rather large...

"Oh my God, how did I forget THAT?!" Saudy exclaimed. It was all coming back to her. She wasn't in her apartment room, she was in the lounge of her apartment complex! She was finding clients to fill the rooms before she must have dozed off.

Downing the last of her mocha, Saudy got up and went briskly back down the large hallway, past her room, which was supposed to be a break room, and came to the door that led out into the lobby. It was much of the same coloring and modern minimalist styling as the lounge area, the floor once again tile. Saudy walked behind the reception desk to turn on the outside sign, which read (ironically) "Black & White Condominiums."

Checking the time, it was around 10:30am, the exact time the first attendee was due to arrive. Saudy nearly jumped out of her skin as a ringing sound came from a speaker on the desk, signaling someone was at the door.

"I'm not even dressed! How could I have been so out of it!?" Saudy exclaimed furiously as she ran to the door, regardless of her appearance. Money was money, and she spent too much checking into her clients to have them turn away. She was by no means greedy, but you had to have a base amount of pocket money to live here, and she was quickly running out.
