"What do you mean, I'm the one?" She simply gave me a smile, and took my hand. Then, we began traveling along the ray.

"Do you know who I am?" I chuckled, walking closer to her.

"You're my Goddess."

She shook her head, and lightly pushed me back. "I mean beyond that. Who am I, Damien Carter?"

Soon, the ray was gone, and we were standing upon a white surface. "You're..." I bit my lip, trying to find the answer. "I mean..." Damn it... I kicked up a cloud of dust, and exhaled. "You're..." Then, I noticed it. "We're on the moon."

"Yes. We are." I slowly turned, and looked around. "Notice anything?"

"Yeah... Where's Earth?"

****

"Damn it, Damien!" I was thrown to the ground, as bullets whizzed by my head. Simon growled, pulling me back up. "Will you pay attention?! You're no good to anyone dead!"

I shook myself, willing me back to the battle. Then immediately, a bloody husky fell right in front of me. He was dead...

"Damien!" I snapped my attention back to Simon. "We, need, you! Snap out of it!" A large crash knocked us over. "Get to Veronica at city square, now! We need you out there!" He grabbed my shirt, and tossed me into the streets.

I quickly shifted, and dodged a bullet stream. My paws danced through the rubble until maneuvering behind cover. All of a sudden, my hands flew to my blade, and I shifted back. A soldier ran up, knife drawn.

And then, it clicked.

I screamed, and drove my blade into his chest. I saw the fire leave his eyes, and then grow dark. I quickly ripped it out, and watched him fall to the ground.

What did I just do?! I spun around, pulling out my pistol. My finger found the trigger, and popped off another soldier. It was instant. There was no thought or regard for what I was doing. It was murder.

And it thrilled me.

I jumped over a bench, and immediately sliced into a soldier. Why was this so easy?! I was doing it as if it were nothing! I shifted, and leaped upon another. I watched his small human face seize up in fear, so I lunged forwards, and ripped out his throat. I forced myself to spit it out and continue.

They were all nothing! They were children: running around in my playground like they own the place. Which was why I needed to kill them.

No! I tried to shift, but was thrown in some strange state in between. I can't do this! No more killing! *The killing will continue!* No! I'm stronger than you! I ripped through the opposition and flung myself forwards.

A man came running at me, as I dove over a railing. I narrowly dodged his knife, so I grabbed his hand, and slammed the hilt into his face. I quickly ran past his unconscious body, seeing the square ahead of me.

Now was the time for leadership, not murder! *Lies!* Get out of my head! Then my eyes caught a motorcycle, and a grin appeared on my face. The keys were still in.

I started it up, licking my lips at the gorgeous purr of the engine. I revved it a few times, and then shot down the road. A few not so nice words slipped out as I heard the front of the bike cry out with bullet punctures. The bike narrowly skated by a few allies, and almost crashed into a few enemies. Not saying it wouldn't be beneficial, that last part, but I was on board too, which didn't seem very encouraging.

I spun into a parking garage, and began climbing the various levels. *We need to talk!* I don't converse with murderers, and since when can you talk?! *Doesn't matter! Shouldn't you be listening to the Goddess' message right now, instead of worrying over this pathetic war?* Realize this, animal! If I don't win this war, we both die! How about that?! *The Goddess cares not for-* Screw the Goddess!

I jumped off the bike, and sped up the last ramp of the garage. I came out to war stretched over the entire city. Everywhere I looked someone was dying or screaming in terror. The sad part was that it was equal on both sides. "Damien!"

I looked over, and saw Veronica ducked behind a cement barricade. I ran over, and slid behind it as well. She held up a finger, and came over the side, gun blazing. I just watched her, stunned by how the war had already shaped her into a killing machine. She dropped to her knees, give me a tired smile.

"Hey, cloud boy! How's the war?" I shook my head, managing a chuckle.

"Well, Simon's doing good on the boundaries of this fine city! I've killed a few men, and decided I don't like it. You know, the usual." She nodded, and turned back to shooting.

"So Simon sent you out here to rally the troops?" I nodded, which made her chuckle. "Since you aren't very heroic, that wasn't the best idea. But, whatever."

I shrugged. "I never understood him."

She chuckled, and tossed a grenade. "Luna wanted you to call her." My eyes went wide, which was another thing to set off her chuckles. "Knew that'd get your attention."

I yanked out my phone, and dialed Luna's number. "Luna! Are you okay?!"

The signal was patchy, but it was there. "Damien? Are you ? I'm ----, but -- --ally need to -- to --- capitol building! Get -- the top, and use --- explosives -- ---- down helicopters!" Then the signal went dead.

"I gotta get to the capitol building!" Veronica spun towards me, giving me a crazed look. I gave a serious stare back. She groaned, and shot a few more bullets, before pulling me to my feet.

"Cloud boy, you seriously have bad timing. But, if we have to, we have to!" She motioned for a soldier to come over, and when he did, she stuck her rifle in his hands. "You're escorting Damien to the capitol! Keep him safe, Neo!" The badger nodded, and rushed me along to the ground floor.

Neo ran down to cover, so I did the same. What I had experienced earlier, was nothing. What was happening here, was chaos! Bullets whizzed everywhere, and screams of agony littered the streets. And all I could do was stand there, and listen to it all crumble around me...

"Sir!" Neo grabbed me, and began dodging in and out of cover. "I have to get you to the capitol building unharmed, and you just sitting there like a big target isn't helping!"

I nodded, before grabbing a pistol. I popped out of cover. We began making our way through the streets, and then-

Heeeeeen-PUUUNT!!!!

I fell to the ground, and covered my ears, cringing all the while. I was shaking. Then, my body was tossed through the air, as another bomb went off.

*Give me control! I can get you to the damn capitol building!* No! You're just going to kill- *If you don't allow me to kill the enemy, then you'll let your own people die!* ... I just- *Quit being such a pansy, and give in!*

I pulled myself to my feet, and found Neo on the ground. I ran over, and pulled him over. *...What did I tell you? People get hurt if you don't act.* I sighed, before shutting his eyes. "Fine. But don't go overboard." *Wouldn't dream of it.*

My body hunched over, and I relinquished control. I shifted.

My eyes narrowed and my legs tensed. Everything began to slow down. For once, I felt calm in this state. So, I leapt over Neo's body, and strutted behind cover.

I inhaled deeply, sensing a few soldiers ahead. Enemy. Nervous. A bit scared. One of them is sweating profusely. Most likely new. Yeah, uniform smells fresh. Easily frightened. Won't have to do a thing myself.

I lunged out, and gave a purposefully loud growl to them. I watched in amusement as the rookie began spazzing: bullets began spraying everywhere, along with his terrified screams. I narrowly dodged a few bullets, and shook myself off, trotting into an alley.

This whole thing seemed easier to manage in feral form. "You're welcome." I almost jumped, but quickly remembered my new companion. *I'm sorry for earlier.*

I rolled my eyes, continuing to walk. I slowly scouted out the corners, before proceeding. "Don't get all soft on me yet. Save that for Luna."

I sighed, looking away. *This is kind of hard to manage. Us sharing a body, but we aren't. We're the same person.* I wanted to shift, and just sit, talking with him, but I knew it wouldn't be a good time.

I chuckled, and stepped to the end of the alley. "Listen. We can give our philosophical views on what the hell happened to us later. We have an army to lead, to fight, and we need to finish before tonight."

I raised an eyebrow, almost turning as if I was speaking to another person. *Was that a rhyme?*

I rolled my eyes, again, before sprinting behind a planter. "Slipped out. Doesn't matter. Like I said, we need to get these idiots off of our country's soil. I won't watch all of us die."

*You're different.* This time, I scoped it out, before dashing behind an overturned car. *Before, you were like a beast. More like a monster, actually.*

I nodded, giving a smile. Don't know why I did. Just felt right... Whatever. "That first time was when I was created. I was raw instinct and animal. It's been a few months since then."

I shook my head, and slipped over to the other side of the street. It seemed empty, so I just simply walked. *No, I mean, just a few minutes ago, you were spewing all of this nonsense about the Goddess and murdering.*

I sighed, and shifted to my feet. *First off, the Goddess is very important. More important than the stupid God that the Christians believe in, or whomever the Islams believe in. Second, I wanted the murder, because I don't see it as murder. This is war. It's the only way for peace for your future generations. Fight now so that your children can live in peace. Third, each time I have a long time with the body that I'm not contributing completely to physical, I develop more of a personality. This is me. That beast is me. We're the same.*

I smiled, and walked around the corner, getting a good look at the Capitol building. "I think I needed this. Someone to talk to."

*Don't get used to it.*

I frowned, running towards the front steps. "Why not? What's wrong?" I thought...

*The only reason I'm allowed to do this, is because it's the Full Moon. The Goddess has blessed you with me. I'm a warrior spirit. I'm the only one of my kind. And one day, I'll die to save you.*

I stopped, losing my breath at the thought. "Wha-"

*Breathe, idiot! We need you alive!*

I inhaled deeply, and exhaled, giving me energy to continue. "You're going to die for me? How do you know-" On a different hand, I don't think I want to know. So far, stuff with the Goddess is very complicated.

*Hey, you need to focus right now and get to the roof. We need to take out a few helicopters.*

I nodded, and ran up the stairs, but stopped at the top. "Wait, I don't know how to take down helicopters!"

I chuckled, opening the door, and walking up to the elevator. *Good thing you have me.* I pressed the button, and thanked the Goddess that the elevator was on the ground floor.

I walked in, and tapped the top floor. "Yeah. I think this could work. Just schedule every battle for full moons. That should work!" I was lying to myself just to prolong the fact I was going to have to kill people of my own free will.

*Just try not to think about it right now.*

"Is that your view on this? Just keep postponing the thoughts of everyone you've killed until you die? Never think about it?"

*Pretty much.*

"Huh." I rocked back and forth on my heels, looking at my pistol. It seemed like such a simple, yet hard thing to do. Taking a life seemed even harder. Yet, all you had to do was point, and pull. So simple, yet it could take away something as complicated as a life in a split second.

*Alright, quit with the philosophical thoughts right now. We're about to go shoot some birds.*

I stepped out, and sighed. The skyline in front of me was so different than I was used to. Buildings were ghosts of what they used to be. Helicopters and planes flew by as if they were cars at rush hour.

*Nice simile.*

"Thanks." I turned, and walked across the roof looking around. Finally, I saw a some sort of missile launcher, a radio, and a few missiles, next to a few dead soldiers. "So, uh, guess this was what she needed."

*My domain.* I took the radio, and sighed. *Since you're I'm control, you're going to have to say everything I say.*

"Kay." I exhaled, and then spoke. "This is your President, Damien Carter. They will no longer threaten this city, and I promise you that they will not threaten this country again if I have anything to say about it. Now, artillery teams. I know we don't have real artillery, but we have Stingers and Javelins, so let's give 'em hell! Knock them out of the sky! Infantry, push with all you got! Convoys, let's give them a clear path out of our city!" I tossed the radio aside.

I picked up the Javelin, and aimed at the first heli. I locked on, and fired. I stumbled back, a bit surprised by the power. I watched it streak across the sky, until slamming into the copter. Suddenly, I watched the sky light up with explosives, and the entire city became a chorus of howls and war cries. "That's how you get it done!"

****

"Can you find it?"

I frowned, shaking my head. "No." It was troubling. Disturbing.

"Why not?"

"Was it destroyed?"

"No."

I turned to her, suddenly angered. "Then where is it?! Why aren't you giving me straight answers?!"

"Who am I, Damien Car-"

"And would you quit asking that question? You're the Goddess! You created my feral self! You are somehow associated with the moon! And you never give me a straight answer!"

The Goddess walked up, and put a finger to my lips, quieting my spastic words. "You need to think like I do in order to see what I see. You think too human. Think anthro. Where's the Earth?"

Oh... I exhaled, and closed my eyes, inhaling deeply. Suddenly, the landscape exploded in life, showing a pulsing blue orb in the sky. I began to open eyes, but the Goddess stopped me. "Is that the Earth?"

"Is it? I cannot decide what you choose is real. In fact, you question whether these meetings are real. It is good. Just accepting things is a sign of weakness. It shows that you are a slave to following, afraid to think for yourself. You are a leader."

"Uh, thanks..." I bit my lip, staring at it. "I don't think it's Earth."

"Why?"

The colors swirled, and kept changing from blue to red. It was strangely vexing. "Well, the Earth's aura wouldn't be red. Because red isn't life. It's fire. It's passion and rage and raw energy. The Earth is different. It's cooler. Blues and Greens and Purples. This is an inconsistent cross between blue and red. So, what is it?"

"It was once Earth."
