What a beautiful night

"What a beautiful night" I thought as I walked down the narrow ally, I had heard that a vampire was attacking young students from a high school and I was going to stop him. I should mention now that I am a vampire, but with a different perspective on the world. I do not hurt unintentionally like most of my kind does. I have gained a lot of power over the 150 years I have been on this world. One of the many abilities I have is near immortality. My whole body can be destroyed and I can still regenerate. I should also mention that I drink mainly medical blood; I only drink fresh blood when I have no choice. Even the sun doesn't affect me, though I hate it. Oh and before I forget, my name is Cipher.
"Bye everyone, see you tomorrow!"
"See you Elise!" my friends told me as I left the school. I had been at the AV club meeting. We were working on setting up the theater for an upcoming musical at our school. I lived only a few blocks from my high school and knew of some shortcuts. As I ran through the narrow allies I noticed a man was following me. As I ran faster, he was suddenly right behind me. He grabbed me and pulled me to the ground.
"Get off me!" I screamed at him. Even though he didn't look very strong he was holding me down with ease.
"Your blood will most likely be the sweetest I have tasted." He whispered in my ear. It was then I realized why he was so strong. He was a vampire, and a rather famous one in our area. He had been attacking high school students for weeks, and disappearing without a trace.
"I would release her if I was you." I heard someone say as I was dragged onto my feet. It was a kid who looked about my age, but I had a feeling that what he looked like wasn't anywhere near his actual age.
"And who are you to be telling me what to do, boy?" The man who was holding me said. Then much to my surprise the kid pulled out a gun. From its length and bore size I would say it was a 454 Casul.
"This gun can punch through solid cement, and the ammo is custom made. A silver cross from St. Paul's cathedral was melted into the alloy for the bullets. Vampires like you don't even stand a chance."
"Wait your one of us, why don't you join me, and we can rule over this miserable city... hey are you even listening?"
"Hey schoolgirl... I'm going to have to shoot through your lungs to get to the vampire's heart. Now I'm going to offer you an option, do you want to join me, or just leave this life behind." I was surprised by this statement, and it was then I noticed that the kid was a vampire.
I thought over the decision over and then yelled, "Yes! Do it!" I heard the gun discharge and felt a searing pain in my chest. Then the man's arm around my neck turned to dust, and I fell to the ground.
"Just remember that you chose this." The kid said to me before I fell unconscious.
I awoke in what appeared to be a low cost hotel. Remembering what had happened, I bolted upright. I calmed down when I noticed that I had no bullet hole in my chest, nor any other cuts or scrapes for that matter.
"Oh so you're awake," said the kid from earlier as he walked in the door.
"Ya, why did you give me the option of becoming a vampire, I thought you killed other vampires?" I asked him. "Oh, and while I remember, what's your name?"
"To answer your first question, I felt you were too young to die. As for the second my name is Cipher."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Elise. How long have I been out?"
"You've been out for about an hour; will anyone be looking for you?"
"I doubt it, I live at an orphanage. Funny, even though I know I've changed I don't feel any different."
"Good, you should take a good look in the mirror, and before you do, don't be surprised that your eyes are red." Cipher said as I headed for the bathroom. As it turned out my eyes were red, but aside from having fangs, which was about all that changed. After getting into some fresh clothes, I decided to walk back to the orphanage.
"I'm heading back to the orphanage, want to come?"
"Sure, why not, it's better than sleeping on these doors they try to pass as mattresses here."
"Just wondering, how old are you? I'm 16."
"I believe I'm about 150 give or take 2 years. When you get over 100 you tend to loose track."
As we walked out the door, I was surprised when Cipher brought a big case out of the closet. It was about 10 feet long but he was carrying it with ease. When we got to the orphanage, no one was awake so we talked and waited. Suddenly Cipher seemed to notice something and he was quiet.
"What's wrong?"
"Brace yourself we're about to be attacked by some vampire hunters."
"I'll need a weapon, you got anything?"
"Yep, here take the Casul, I'll use the big gun." Cipher said as he opened the case I saw earlier. Inside was a massive gun, it had a 7.5 foot long barrel, with a 30mm bore. With the stock and firing assembly it was at least 10 feet in length and fired the biggest shells I had ever seen. It wasn't a gun it was a freaking cannon.
When he handed me the Casul, it felt surprisingly light. "I'll break my wrist firing this thing" I said when I noticed the size of the bullets.
"Don't be stupid, a human would break their wrist, but we aren't human. How else could I lift this thing, let alone fire it?" Cipher said as he pointed to the cannon.
I took up a position in the entranceway while cipher sat ready with the cannon down the main hall. 'Everyone is going to have a rude awakening tonight' I thought as I heard movement outside. I was amazed at how sharp my senses were, everything was clearer now, like I had been living in a frosted glass box for my life. As I was thinking this, the door was blasted open. Then I heard another loud explosion from the hall as the cannon was fired. The shell literally tore through the vampire hunters, and then detonated, killing the rest. In no time Richard, our guardian, came running down the stairs, shotgun loaded and ready to fire.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!" he yelled when he saw the hole in the wall that used to be the door. "Elise why the hell do you have a gun and what was that sound, it was like someone fired off a tank round."
"You aren't too far off Richard, but there is no danger now, it's been taken care of. Oh and by the way, he is on our side." I told Richard as Cipher rounded the corner carrying the cannon.
"Good evening, Mr.... Maxwell is it? Yes I did fire this, you should see your face right now, it's priceless."
"Who are you, and where did you get that? I want an explanation!"
"All will be explained in due time, and in private. Elise do you mind going and comforting the younger kids, that shot probably scared them."
"Yes sir." I said as I headed down the hallway, I will have to tell the kids the truth. This will be a hard thing to do. I knew all the kids will be hiding in their respective places by now and it should be easy to get them to come out.
"Hey guys it's Elise, we're clear." I heard from the air vent, followed by the sounds of kids getting out of various well concealed hiding spots.
"How are you guys, is anyone hurt?"
"We're all fine. Hey Elise what's with your eyes, and why do you look pale?"
"Damn it, I hoped you wouldn't notice. Now before I say anything, I want you all to promise me that you won't go running all over screaming."
"We promise." All the kids said at once.
"Ok, I'll be blunt. I've been turned into a vampire, but I won't hurt any of you or anyone for that matter." Everyone was quiet for a good five min. (don't know how to spell the actual word.) then Sarah, the youngest of the group (she is 8) came up to me and said,
"That's cool, do you have fangs? Why would we be scared, we all love you?"
"Thank god, that's a relief, I thought I'd have to chase you all down and drag you back here." As soon as I said that I heard on of the kids yell something and I felt something tear through my stomach.
