Chapter 2:

The night wasn't exactly quiet, the sounds that sent a warm fuzzy chill down my spine. Crickets chirping, singing that song (or whatever it was) slowly and constantly. My wing flexed back and forth as the night wore on, the grandfather clock not even working properly as it went counterclock-wise. Don't even know what it was that made me sit up and finger the bandolier that hung around my neck. Tim and Hana were next door, probably having alone time. (Hint, hint.) All I knew was, it was time to leave. The door in front of me opened; the hallway was quiet as my feet ran slowly across the floor. For a moment or two, the ceiling ACTUALLY looked like it had a big EXIT sign on it. A quick opening of the door that lead to a freedom my mind could never comprehend opened up and the cool air rushed across the room and it quickly shut.

'Venin City', eh? It seemed really familiar. The sights and sounds went to and fro the town as the nightly events started. Many couples entered into a building titled 'Blackhawke Tavern'; I was about to go in, but the big bulldog bouncer put a knobby arm right across the entrance.

"You got an ID, shithead?"

For a moment or two, it was silent. "ID? Sir, I am old enough to enter. 18 or over." I politely pointed at the sign.

"Kid, you look like your seventeen. You know how much money I lose because minors come in and get drunk, then go and get hit by a carriage or something?"

"Very unfortunate. I do not have an ID.. But, may I at least come in and look, then just leave. You could come in with me." My offer seemed tempting to the dog, but he shook his head and his fangs were bared. "No."

Not wanting to have a fight with this gentleman, I bowed and merely went right AROUND the building. The exit looked tempting, but couldn't really take a chance if the bulldog made patrols. My mind suddenly thought of something, there was a key around the exit. Not wanting to know how that came to me. The dumpster was there, the key had to be somewhere..underneath in a small silver box.

The key was found, and worn with slime and age, but when I put it in the lock it fit perfectly. It must have been the dump area, the smell was so rancid and heavy that my eyes started to water. There was a door among all this trash, somewhere. My feet went through the muck and the rats. (Very disgusting, seeing a little green rat run around.)

"Watch it, buddy!"

"Sorry!"

"Oh my God, you killed Kenny! You bastard!"

"Sorry!"

My hands groped for the handle and turned it; Wasting no time to run right out of the room and shut the door behind me. My wing flicked some slime off, and retracted and folded comfortably and I walked through the halls, coming right into the main area where people were sipping their drinks. It seemed like a huge stripjoint, the way females walked around in kinky dominatrix clothing while they brought food and alchohal. A few were going out into the upstairs bedrooms and into the bathrooms with condoms that had been bought from a vending machine near the counter. I sat on the stool next to a burly dragon.

This dragon has a serpentine body with a stubby, thin neck. Its scales are white, and it has a turtle-like shell on its back. On the end of its tail is a hooklike extension. This dragon has thick limbs with two digits on each foot that end in long claws. It has small wings running from its shoulders to its lower back. A row of spines runs from the base of its skull, down its back, to the tip of its tail. This dragon has a tiny mouth and has a prounounced overbite. It has one gem-like eye that is the color of fresh roses. This dragon has tiny, pointed ears. A series of tendrils extends, hair-like, from the back of its head. It's chin is very pointed, and it definately had an overbite.

"Bartender, lemme buy a drink for a new friend o' mine here!" He pat a claw on my back, with the force of a cannonball, from my perspective. The bartender eyed me for a moment, and poured me a tequila on the rocks. The dragon roughly put a silver coin on the counter and shuffled out. It gave me a moment to look around. Couples were spread around, some with parties, some females were giving blowjobs to their mates and a blue dragoness winked at me from over in the opposite direction. Anger welled up in me, I hate better things to do than get fucked by a bar slut. The bartender tapped me on the shoulder and handed me a microphone. "Wha.." My eyes went up to a sign: Karoke Night Tonight!

"But sir, I can't.." Everyone seemed to glare at me and I gulped: Sing, or be pummeled by everyone and their grandmother. No contest, I got up on the stage and frantically tried to put a song together in my head.

"From the top to the bottom

Bottom to top I stop

At the core I've forgotten

In the middle of my thoughts

Taken far from my safety

The picture is there

The memory won't escape me

But why should I care,

with no fear,

why are you here?

There's a place so dark you can't see the end

Skies rock back and shock that which can't defend

The rain then sends dripping acidic questions

Forcefully, the power of suggestion

Then with the eyes tightly shut looking thought the rust and rotten dust

A spot of light floods the floor

And pours over the rusted world of pretend

The eyes ease open and its dark again

In the memory you'll find me

Eyes burning up

The darkness holding me tightly

Until the sun rises up Moving all around

Screaming of the ups and downs

Pollution manifested in perpetual sound

The wheels go round and the sunset creeps past the

Street lamps, chain-link, and concrete

A little piece of paper with a picture drawn

Floats on down the street till the wind is gone

The memory now is like the picture was then

When the paper's crumpled up it can't be perfect again

Now you got me caught in the act

You bring the thought back

I'm telling you that

I see it right through you,

You find me there,

AND I SEE RIGHT THROUGH YOU!"

Everyone whistled and I got off stage. Before I got pummeled, there was a blur and I went through the muck and out the back without a word. It was more of a crack of dawn than was expected and the streets were a little more crowded. A scream got my attention, and I walked over into an alley. A couple of gangsters were ganging up on a red dragoness. Rather beautiful, the gangsters eyed the young one with lust.

"Hey!"

My voice echoed out on its own and the duo turned around. "Who the FUCK is he?!" My hand grasped the bandolier of orbs and I swung a brown one. The earth opened up, and literally swallowed them. The dragoness shook and brushed herself off. "Thanks." She looked up at me with great green orbs that was slightly teary. One thing struck me at that very moment.

It was Garnet.
