#4 of Guardian Wars

Meh...

"The client didn't really give us much detail about himself, but I can sure tell you that he seems pretty legit." Benny sighed and leaned back in his computer chair, grabbing the cup of tea in front of him and holding it in front of his nose, whiffing in the scented steam. "He sure as hell seems to be rich if he's offering half a million dollars for just one diamond."

"Not just a diamond..." Cedrick growled and clenched his paws, gripping the back of the computer chair tightly and managing to balance his anger. Just recently Cedrick was being told he was now participating in some game of death, how could he not be in a bad mood? The client who asked Cedrick to retrieve the diamond got him into this mess and surely he had to of known something about all this. The black Fox was going to find out what that was.

"Can't you track the email from where it was sent from?" The slim Bunny stepped into the conversation almost immediately, knowing the anger boiling into the black Fox next to him and trying to figure a way to help. "Did they leave an address or name?"

"If it were that simple I would have found the guy by now." Benny said non-chillingly, keeping his focus on the coffee than instead of the gorgeous Bunny to his right side. "There's only a drop off location and that's it. That's the best lead I have so far..."

"Well we can't go back to the museum now," Cedrick replied coldly, "Security's probably stepped up big time after last night's incident."

"Well, where did you put the diamond then? There hasn't been a report of finding it on the news so clearly you've hidden it." Benny took a sip of his drink and placed it next to the keyboard.

"In the air duct of the hallway I infiltrated from... I had to ditch it."

"Well then we're stumped without it then. If we don't have the diamond by tonight the deals off." Benny leaned forward and clicked on the email, highlighting the words of where the drop off destination was. "The abandoned train station on the edge of the city... rather interesting place to drop it off but I ain't complaining."

"Guess that means we have no choice," Arion grabbed Benny's tea cup and took a sip of it; this made the Feline twitch and look at the Bunny with a weird expression. "We're going to have to go back and get it."

"That's dangerous." Cedrick retorted.

"Guess you won't have your lead then." Arion smirked and held the warm cup in his hands, "We should actually be focused more on Guradian Wars than this childish dilemma."

That made Cedrick want to lash his fist out but self-control got the best of him. It wouldn't be right to hit someone who didn't deserve it--especially if that someone had mutant powers surging through their body.

"Alright you two, that's enough." Julius, the rather bulky Dragon leaning against the wall and peering out the window, was finally speaking up. After what had been almost two hours the man finally decided to push off and turn around. What was he looking out the window for? "First off, Arion's right, we should be making strategies to protect ourselves in the game. But if you, Cedrick, so much as desires to find the man responsible for this, then we can compromise. We too want the diamond as well."

Cedrick didn't like the way the Bunny shifted his weight on the desk, it seemed to be upsetting. His tolerance level was become weary and if Cedrick didn't have Benny in between the two, there might have been an up roar. "What do you two need the diamond for?"

"Consider it as an edge for Julius and I. That's all you have to worry about." Arion retorted back, whisking another sip of tea. His face features suddenly became distorted for a moment before glaring at Julius.

"I know..." Julius sighed and turned to the window, glancing slightly out at the brightly lit city.

"What's wrong?" Cedrick asked, glancing at the two suspiciously.

The Bunny stiffened, "Julius and I have been sensing other Guardians within our proximity for a while now but they suddenly disappeared about two hours ago." Arion placed the cup on the table and stood, walking slowly into the living room. "Now we can sense it again. Only stronger now..."

This made Benny turn in his chair to face the two Guardians, he instinctively grabbed the cup with him but it appeared to be empty, "And why haven't you warned us about this?"

"Because they weren't close enough to do anything, they were most likely scouting the area. Spying on us." Julius growled and pushed off the wall, walking towards Cedrick. "I realize that was probably a mistake. I can't believe I let my guard down..."

"Wait, they?" Cedrick asked as Julius grabbed his wrist and pulled him--close--as the made their way to the living room.

"The twins." Replied Julius; his eyes watching the windows closely.

Twins? What were they talking about? The sound of car horns and traffic from below the apartment building was all Cedrick could hear as the morning routine of rush hour was happening. Typical New York, which happens all the time and quite frankly someone can get used to it.

Julius glanced around the room before he finally spoke after a minute of silence, which gave Cedrick a sinking feeling in his stomach, "We need to leave."

"What?" Benny was grabbed by Arion and pulled with the other two to the center of the living room, both scanning their surroundings. "No, I have all my equipment here. Are we going to come back?"

"Not a good idea... Grab what you need now and let's move out. You have a minute." Julius let go of Cedrick while Arion did the same, keeping their eyes on on their Keys while their peripherals scanned for anything off.

"Just one minute? I need more than that!" Benny ran towards his computer space and grabbed something under his desk: a duffel bag. He zipped it open and took out a flash drive, shoving it into the computer and accessing his internal files.

"We don't have time..." Julius responded.

Cedrick didn't know what to grab. What did he usually need when he left his apartment? His bag! It has gadgets and his wallet in there, he'll be sure to need that! But where did he put it? Last time he had it on was when he was about to go to bed for a nap, but he took it off then.

His room.

"I need to get my bag!" Cedrick ran for his bedroom door, he still had under a minute to grab what he needed and it was just only one thing with items inside. Simple and yet easy for travel in case they were going anywhere. But something felt off, Cedrick was prepared to process the entire feeling in his gut when he reached the door but it felt off. As if the air suddenly shifted around him like a random force of wind deciding to change direction and causing him to lose balance. But this wasn't the usual type of wind because as soon as he opened the door to his room there was a massive impact that at first glimpse it looked orange, but then it erupted into a white and blood red explosion that threw Cedrick back across the path he came and into the chest of Julius, who managed to catch the flying Fox out of the air.

The force knocked the air out of his lungs immediately, and what made it worse was that he couldn't seem to find it as he landed in the arms of the taller Dragon. He just laid there in the firm grip, the world around him twisting and turning and his ears having a sharp ringing that stabbed into his brain. The Sounds in the room became muffled out by the ringing but he could make out little murmurs from Arion and Julius as they were screaming at something.

Fire burst out into waves as it spread across the living room and with the room tilting in his brain, Cedrick could make out two figures walking out of the gaping hole where his bedroom door was, the smoke silhouetting their shadows. Julius turned and yelled towards Benny who--too--was disoriented. The explosion caught all of them off guard and it was now costing them precious time. Arion's quick reflexes must have taken action and stood in front of his Key for defense.

As the ringing started to fade away into the depths of his head and the world began to sit in one spot, the Eagle on the left opened his smirking mouth to speak. "I think we might have over done it, brother."

The brother next to him chuckled slyly as the glowing untamed ball of orange hovered around their entwined hands, their irises glowing the same color too. "That's alright brother," He said, "That's what makes it more fun."

Both brothers were wearing metal plated armour that only covered their lower body and torso, the orange colors around their hands illuminated them into a brownish copper color, matching their white beach sand shaded feathers. They were holding hands as they appeared in front of them.

"Benny! It's time to leave, now!" Julius yelled as he put the Fox down on his feet, nearly losing balance if he didn't have the Dragon to fall into. "Cedrick, you need to escape."

Cedrick didn't know how to process that as he looked over to Benny who shoved the things he needed into the duffel bag and zipped it up, rushing behind the Bunny who already had his yellow luxin floating in his hands. "But, what about you two...?"

"We'll be right behind you don't worry about us."

The Twins held their ground firmly as Cedrick nodded after looking into the Dragons eyes for a second. He and Benny made their way to the door but were briefly stopped by one of the Twins. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. This party has only just begun."

"You aren't getting near them, Daemon." Julius growled and had his own green luxin in his hands, his irises shimmering the same green shade.

"You hear that Daemon," the other brother to the left placed his free hand on the others shoulder, leaning in close, "Julius isn't interested in joining our fun."

Daemon smiled devilishly, looking into his brother's eyes, "Well Kaylin, guess that means we'll have to show him out, then." Daemon pressed his free hand on the cheek of his brothers, placing a kiss onto the others lips briefly before looking back at Julius, both were still holding hands.

"You two are sick..." Arion hissed under his breath.

"Says the one who killed his lover cold heartedly." Daemon glared towards the Bunny, watching the features of his face change and his eyes gone aback.

"Arion focus." Julius said.

Benny glanced at the Bunny whose face features looked hurt and not the usual amused look he had. After the Twin mentioned something about a lover, it seemed to lower his guard and his emotions. The Feline could have sworn he saw a tear forming in those sexy eyes, but then it was blinked away and anger took form, "You bastards!"

Kaylin smirked and leaned onto his brother, "Look Daemon, he's mad."

"Yes he is..."

That was when a yellow ball of flames shot out towards the two Eagle Twins, but the offensive attack seemed to be shrugged off as Daemon swished his hand upward, casting an orange shield that disintegrated the entire yellow luxin missile when it made contact. Arion was already beginning to cast another missile when Julius hurtled both his hands towards the two, forcing a giant green wave of luxin towering toward them.

Cedrick didn't look to see the outcome as he grabbed Benny and pulled him out into the apartment hallway, sprinting down the corridor and stopping at the silver plated elevator that displayed it was at a stop on the second floor.

"You're going to wait for the elevator?!" Benny cried out as an explosion boomed the room down the hallway, causing the entire floor to shake and groan under the amount of destruction happening. Cedrick even saw sparks of yellow, green and orange flying from the room. This entire situation wasn't supposed to happen and now Benny and Cedrick were caught in the middle of a storm of Guardians battling.

"You're right, we'll take the stairs!"

Julius gritted his teeth as he deflected a power punch from Kaylin, the force causing him to step back a few steps and feeling his lungs scream for a breather. Julius was an idiot. Not only did he let his Key run away unsupervised, but he left them completely vulnerable! He couldn't believe he made this mistake. Arion, though, didn't seem to take much notice as his focus was more set on Daemon. The Bunny was thrusting yellow bursts of luxin with his punches but the Eagle didn't seem fazed by the whole offensive take, blocking every hit and dodging with precise speed and agility. It was impressive.

But Kaylin was different, he seemed to be enjoying the fight between himself and Julius, the sadistic smirk was painfully taunting the Dragon but Julius was trained to get past that. He should retreat and get to the Fox before this gets completely out of hand. Not that it already hasn't with a gaping hole in the apartment that was supposed to be Cedrick's bedroom, there had to be no choice, Julius and Arion need to escape and prepare for this later.

"Arion, we need to move!" Julius growled.

But the Bunny didn't focus on the Dragons words as his energy was set on Daemon, who still managed to dodge every attack. But with all the power Arion had put into his anger, it didn't matter anymore to the orange Eagle. Eventually he would get bored of dodging and decide to change tactics into offensive.

"ARION!"

A wave of orange heat blasted right into the Dragons torso, the wind in his lungs pressing out of his body and sending him back into the wall, pounding through the hard surface and breaking into the next neighboring apartment. Once at a rolling stop on his stomach, Julius heaved a groan and squeezed his eyes shut as he felt the burning of luxin eating at his body, steam rising from his body. Surely it was not the full power of Kaylin, but if the immense amount of pain in his muscles were screaming this much, Julius didn't want to find out how much more power the Eagle could give. If he was going to escape, he would need a distraction.

Rolling over on shrapnel and wall dust, Julius was greeted with an orange flame aiming towards his face.

The room immediately went green as Julius raised his arms in an X, releasing a green energy shield that absorbed the impact of Kaylin's missile.

"You should really focus on me, Julius; your friend isn't going to be much help now..." The Eagle smirked and walked into the next apartment, sirens finally heard through the multiple explosions.

As Kaylin held out his hand towards Julius's face, the orange luxin started to take shape around it. But at this exact moment where this might be the end, Julius's life flashed before him within seconds that he failed to see the big picture in front of him. His mother, he saw, was in the kitchen baking an apple pie, the smell seeming to suddenly fill his nostrils. His father who worked in the fields, growing crops and wheat to support the family from poverty. And finally his brother...

The orange luxin had gotten brighter. Kaylin's hand twitched and he finally fisted his hand, the bright orange missile preparing to fire when suddenly--

--"NO!"

A yellow blur hammered into the back of the Eagles head and pushed his him towards the ground, the impact to the floor completely gave weigh under the amount of pressure.

Cedrick and Benny skipped every step as the descended the apartment building, hearing the crashes and booms from the upper level. Even other people were evacuating because of the sounds that was happening upstairs. If only they actually knew what was happening. Cedrick didn't even think he could feel his legs but they seemed to be still moving along quite fluently, the only problem was the air in his lungs. He seemed to be holding every breath and keeping it greedily.

"Cedrick!"

Benny screamed as the wall next to the Fox suddenly exploded in a blaze of rock and shrapnel mixed with bright colors that almost made anyone who watched directly blind. The force was large, like a boxer clotheslining his opponent to the ground, but this time there was no ground to fall on as the force pushed him over the stairway railing.

"No!" Benny tried to grab for anything that could save Cedrick, but unfortunately, his hands found no contact with the Fox and watch as he hurtled to the ground.

A heavy chunk slammed the ground as Benny twisted in horror to see Arion--his Guardian--stand over one of the twin Eagles, his right fist giving off a steam of yellow and his other hand holding something black.

Heaving a breath, the Bunny smirked, "Got your bag."
