A somewhat darker poem that covers the presence and absence of innocence in the world. Enjoy.

Innocence

Sometimes the world seems dark and gray Not everyone sees the world that way With time all evidence of memories will fade No one will know who got on their knees and prayed; A light passing by may shed some hope Helping out all of those who struggle to cope Let this muddled message be marked and told Life and death will inevitably unfold;

Blood and gore seep into the earth But others are young and innocent from birth Our strongest and most prideful traits descend But what is done by them it all depends; I cannot see beyond my eyes This hatred inside I will despise The sadness and grief we call despair A small child asks "Why is life not fair?"
