Final Fantasy IX - Chronicles of Gaia

Prologue

Over thousands of years ago, in another universe far away from us, there was a realm. A realm devoid of planets, moons, stars, not even an insignificant asteroid or two. That is, until one day, the Crystal came.No one knows where it originated from, or how it came to be. But it was the Crystal that became the source of light in that horrible dimension of darkness. The Crystal gave birth to the universe, creating the existance and galaxy we know of today. Like a God, It used it's power to fill many of the worlds with an extraordinary amount of life, including a similer crystal of their own. One such world was a small blue planet named Gaia.Five thousand years ago, Terra, another one of the oldest planets in existence, tried to assimilate Gaia. Much to the inhabitants dismay, it was no match for the power of the young planet's Crystal. Terra was lost, but the surface of Gaia was left in ruin, and from that disaster, the Crystal gave birth to mythical beasts of immense power to serve as the planet's guardians. These creatures were known as Eidolons. These beings were the centerfolds of tales that unfolded in Gaia's existance, passed down from generation to future generation. Each of these guardians took part in the history of the planet in one way or another, but the most well-known stories were those of the great holy guardian Alexander, and the king of dragons, Bahamut.

Twenty years ago, a Genome named Kuja sought to gain control of these two legendary Eidolons in an effort to wage war against Garland, the creator of his artificial race, and free himself from the chains of fate. But the two great guardians were lost to him, and although Kuja managed to best Garland through other means, he soon discovered that his efforts were in vain and bitterly accepted the fact that his existence will soon come to an end. Overcome with grief and despair, Kuja now sought to destroy the source of all life in existence - the Crystal itself. His deeds did not go unnoticed, as eight brave heroes, chosen by destiny, chased the Genome around both the planets Gaia and Terra, having finally cornered him as he was about to destroy the Crystal. Kuja succeeded only by a hair's breadth, unleashing the monster that came from the Void as the Crystal shattered. Driven by courage and the will to live, the heroes succeeded in defeating it, and the monster was sent back to the Void from whence it came. Thus preserving the cycle of life.

But they may have only succeeded in delaying the inevitable. With the original Crystal destroyed, the barriers between reality and the Void have begun to dissolve, and it'll only be a matter of time before that horrible monstrosity will be unleashed onto the world once

again, and reduce the universe back to a realm of non-existence.The only questions that remain, is when. And will there be any hope of stopping it?
