Chapter 12:

Another explosion racked the small park, snow going everywhere as two blue blurs flying out of the pillar they'd created. One skidded against the snow, leaving a deep gouge in the white substance as the Lucario came to a stop, a snarl plastered on his face. The second flew out as well, doing a small, graceful backflip, and landing perfectly on her toes, a confident smile on her face as she readied herself again.

The Irishman watched from the edge of the field, keeping on the trainer as he shouted commands to his Lucario. "C'mon Rain! Take her down! Use extreme speed and then force palm!"

With a roar, the Lucario vanished in a puff of snow. Aura, smiling, also vanished, the snow curling up in wisps as she did so. Five meters off the ground, both of them reappeared, Rain's arm locked with one of Aura's legs as they defied gravity, hanging suspended above the snow-covered earth below them. Both of them pushing against the other, they flew back, falling down to earth.

Aura landed first, and as soon as her feet touched the ground, she charged again, palms glowing white with power. With a battle roar, Rain stood tall, arms next to him as his fists glowed with power, a force palm attack, just like Aura. Charging, feet throwing up clumps of snow, he brought an arm back. The two Lucario's met again, palm connecting with palm, arms shaking from the effort being thrown into the attacks.

Suddenly, Aura dropped to a knee, taking away all resistance that the other Lucario was facing. With a startled yelp, he fell forward, his arm going to brace against the ground as he did so. Unfortunately for him, he did not regain his balance as he fell over Aura.

As he continued to tumble forward, Aura heaved upward, catching him in the gut, making Rain yell out in surprise. With his weight supported on her shoulder, both of them flew straight into the air. At the apex of her jump, Aura turned over, holding Rain out in front of her as they plummeted back to earth.

A second later, the shouting coming from Rain was replaced by a loud boom as he crashed into the earth. Snow for several meters around was thrown into the air, obstructing the view of those watching battle.

Aura, who was crouching on top of Rain's chest, held a paw to his throat, ready to continue fighting if he so wished. With a cough, Rain tilted his head up slightly, a small smile on his face. {Damn, always did like the girl on top,} finishing with a wink at Aura.

For her part, Aura just groaned, grabbing the other Lucario by the scruff of fur at his neck. {Listen here, I have no interest in you, so you can just.....} she was interrupted by a sudden kiss he planted on her, and she gave him a solid punch to the side of the head.

A dazed look came over him as he laughed, {aw, yeah! You know just how I like it!} He made another kissing motion, laughing even harder.

With a snarl on her face, Aura brought back a paw, ready to give another harsh blow to his head, when Rain suddenly bucked up, throwing her off balance. Taking advantage of her temporary loss of control, Rain flipped them over so that he was on top of her, using his arms to pin her down. {You know, you are a fine example of a Lucario,} he leaned in closer, a seductive chuckle leaving him, {and I'd be honored to OW!} He rolled off to the side, paws shooting up to his nose as it bleed, tainting the white snow crimson. {Damn it all girl!}

{I. Said. No.} Aura growled through gritted teeth, spinning on her back to place a kick right on his nose.

Again.

Rain's head snapped back into the ground, a weak groan leaving him, even as Aura arched her back to jump back to her feet. Lightly dancing on the tips of her paws, she backed up slowly. The snow had still not settled, and it almost seemed like they were in their own world.

Slowly, Rain stood up again, bracing an arm on his knee to give himself some leverage. Looking up at Aura, some blood still running down his nose, he growled. {You know what? Screw it. Screw trying to pretend that you aren't who we're looking for!} Another deep growl left him as he brought both of his hands together, holding them just a little ways apart. With another snarl, an aura-sphere started to form in his hands, and he shouted {Screw you, bitch!} And tossed the azure orb at her.

Something in Aura just snapped at that, and without any sound or counter-taunt, she spread her legs to stabilize herself. The orb flew at her, and just before it connected with her, she shot a paw, a small aura-sphere in it, and caught it. Rain's eyes went wide as he watched Aura pirouette, his aura-sphere and her's merging, and he shouted when it came flying back at him.

Bending over backwards, the aura-sphere, which had flattened out as she'd thrown it, just barely missed the tip of his muzzle. That's when he felt something connect with his chest, but all he saw was a blur as he was slammed into the ground again. With a large grunt, his arms splayed out beside him as he gazed dizzily up at Aura, who was standing overtop of him, arm held at an angel so that her elbow was pointed at him.

With a deep growl, he kicked up, bracing his arms as he did so, catching Aura under her chin and making her stumble back. Continuing with his momentum, Rain landed neatly on his feet again, one knee on the ground and bracing with one hand also on the ground and the other arm bent in front of him. Aura quickly regained herself, turning her head for a moment to spit out some blood.

Rubbing her jaw, she smiled at the other Lucario, {Got me good with that one. Now I'm going to end this, as we have somewhere we need to be.} Once again bracing her legs, she leaped at Rain again.

A shout of surprise left Rain as he stood up, crossing his arms to catch the first blow, then using his elbow for the next. He was now wholly on the defensive, not able to garner enough time to interrupt Aura's attacks as she continued to punch, jab, and uppercut at him. Every time he deflected a blow away, she would use that to gather momentum for her next attack, but always in a controlled, precise way, never letting her attacks become blows of brute force.

Soon Rain was becoming desperate, using every move he knew to block the attacks that were coming at him, trying not to back up, but still be forced to move back. That's when he heard his trainer call out "aura-sphere! Now damnit!" Without thinking, Rain jumped back, twisting his body to the side as he powered the attack. He launched it as quickly as he could, the sphere only being the size of an apple.

It was enough though, that Aura was hit square in the chest, knocking the wind out of her. Taking the advantage, Rain charged forward just as his trainer called out to use close combat. Now it was Rain that was pounding down on Aura, doing his best not to let her recover.

Caught by surprise and blocking as best she could, Aura was soon the one being forced back. Using her elbows and her hands, she continued to block the attacks as they ponded down on her. She soon noticed that he was using more force than skill, and she quickly tried to put together a plan to use it to her advantage.

With the snow around them finally settled, Rain's trainer and the Irishman could see what was happening, even though a little bit of snow was being kicked up by the force of the blows being landed. The Irishman silently cheered when he saw the male Lucario bleeding from his nose, and trying to land blow after blow, but failing each time.

Both Spike and Tina had come out of the wood line, and were sitting next to the Irishman, watching the battle as it raged on. The Mightyena winced when the male Lucario was able to slip a blow past Aura's defenses, knocking her back, just enough that his next attack missed. Tina cheered, her spiked tail wagging, as Aura used the hit to gain a distance and ground between her and her opponent.

Sweeping her leg in front of her, she kicked some of the powdery snow into the male's eyes, making him balk back in shock. As he was rubbing his eyes, Aura leaped at him, palm engulfed in a blue-flame, growling deep in her throat. Rain managed to blink the snow out of his eyes just in time to see Aura coming at him, a small {oh shit} all he was able to do before she hit him.

Aura connected with her attack, Rain doubling over her arm as it sank against his chest. A deep gasp left him, followed by a cough that was laced with blood. Bringing her hand back, Rain fell forward, and as he did so, Aura brought a knee to his face. With a sharp grunt, he fell back, and when he landed, his arms splayed wide beside him, the only movement coming from his rising and falling chest as he breathed.

Standing tall, she turned on her heel, crunching the snow beneath her paws as she paced back to the Irishman. Standing in front of the Irishman, she tottered for a moment before stepping into the truck, curling into the backseat. Glaring at the other trainer as he walked to the unconscious Lucario, the Irishman stood to the side to allow Spike and Tina to get into the backseat.

The other trainer shakily walked over, nervousness apparent in his stride. The Irishman's eyes narrowed, and he strode over to the nigh-unconscious Lucario, pushing the trainer out of the way. The other trainer stumbled a bit, but froze when the Irishman turned his gaze on him. "I know he ain't yours. So you can run off now." With a shake of his head, the trainer ran back to his truck, slamming the door closed behind him. His tires spun out for a moment before he tore down the road and out of the park as fast as he could.

Taking the last few steps, the Irishman was soon standing over Rain, gazing down on him. The Lucario opened his eyes weakly, a small chuckle leaving him when he saw the Irishman. "Well, here we are again my old friend. Except I recall that we were reversed last time," Rain was suddenly taken by a large, racking cough, and he leaned his head back on the snow.

"I wish I could be glad to see you again Rain, but it'd taste a lie," the Irishman said, looking down on Rain. "How many times have we saved each others lives?"

The Lucario coughed, trying to sit up, but his arms gave out, making him splay back on the snowy ground again. "Don't know, kinda lost count," he tried to smile, but it turned into a wince. "So, it's true, you're out? Not coming back at all?"

The Irishman crouched down by the Lucario, "Out of the whole business." He took a deep breath, looking around the semi-destroyed field, "I have a message for you to give Greyson when you see him again." Licking his lips, which were parched in the dry air, the Irishman brought his gaze to the Lucario. Leaning in close, one knee bracing against the snowy ground, "Tell him to bugger off. Make sure he gets the the message, me, Jayden, we're both out."

Nothing more to say, the Irishman stood up, turning to walk away. Steady steps brought him to his truck, a light breeze blowing some snow past his face. Getting into the truck, he slammed the door shut behind him, throwing it into gear and pulling out.

As the Irishman pulled out, Rain slowly sat up, groaning in pain to watch the truck. Crossing his legs, he brought a paw to his head, rubbing it slowly. With a deep sigh, Rain slowly stood up, making his way over to the pavilion, and to one of the tables. Reaching under it, he opened a small box that was strapped under it, pulling out a cellphone. Flipping it open, he hit the speed-dial, bringing it up to his ear.

After a few rings, a voice came over the phone, "Rain. I assume that the reason you're calling me is that you got her?"

Running a tongue along his teeth, Rain quickly spat, turning his head while holding the phone away for a moment. Bringing it back to his ear, "Sorry boss, kinda underestimated her." He quickly went on before the other man could speak, "It's now confirmed though. The Irishman has betrayed us."

The sound of a chair scraping came over the phone, and Rain could see, in his mind's eye, his boss moving to stand in front of the large window in his office. "This is troubling. I had my suspicions but to actually...." a deep sigh came over the phone, and now he was rubbing his brow, "you saw him actively helping her?"

Rain nodded, "Yes sir. In fact, he gave me a message to pass onto you." Taking a deep breath, the Lucario exhaled it slowly, "He told us to 'bugger off'."

A wry chuckle came over the phone, making Rain look to the side in confusion. "He really thinks he can just leave us. The fool is more disillusioned than I'd thought. Rain," he said in a commanding tone, making the Lucario stand up tall as he awaited his orders, "I'm sending the rest of the 'B' crew to your location. Be sure to tell those two canines that if they fail again, I shall have their pelts made into carpets while they watch."

A dark chuckle left Rain, "Yes sir, how long until..." a click interrupted him, and he took the phone away from his ear. "Hung up on me," the Lucario scoffed, giving the phone a light toss onto the pavilion table, "damn son of a bitch thinks he can get whatever he wants." Laying down on the table, he crossed his paws behind his head, staring at the bottom of the pavilion's roof. "I'll play his game for now. Soon though, I'll show them what happens when you cross Rain."

Twisting slightly, a wince that was soon suppressed crossed his face. Sighing as he settled, "For now though, that Lucario is top of my list. I'll find her, and force her to be mine, if only for a rough-and-tumble." Another deep sigh left him, and he closed his crimson eyes, the cold wind no longer seeming quite so biting.

Standing partway down the dingy alley, Jayden stood at the ready, his light-brown overcoat hanging down to his knees. His eyes were glowing blue with power as he waited for the two men at the end of the alley to make their move. When they did, he didn't hesitate.

Vanishing, he reappeared in front of the men, grabbing them by their sweaters and throwing them both into the alley. Spinning around to face them, he pushed off with his foot, bringing the side of his hand down on one of the men. The poor soul didn't even have a chance to shout before his face had an intimate moment with the ground.

Before the other man could recover, Jayden swung a leg around, catching the second thug in the chest and sending him stumbling back. Following through, Jayden swung his leg down, still carrying the man, to slam him into the ground as well. Standing over the man, Jayden looked at the two men, scoffing slightly.

That's when he heard another set of footsteps from further down the alley, making him spin around quickly. Standing there was a man dressed in a black-leather jacket and pants, arms crossed as he leaned against the wall. This latest man's raven-black hair seemed to blend perfectly with his attire, but what really drew Jayden's attention were his crimson tinged eyes. "Hello there, Jayden." He said, arms crossed and smiling.

Crouching slightly again, Jayden readied himself for anything. "Don't think I know you."

The man laughed, throwing his head back. Bringing his gaze back to Jayden, his toothy smile revealed a set of teeth more akin to fangs than actual teeth. "No, you don't. I know you though," taking a look at the two men Jayden had taken down, he chuckled again, "and I can guess that you're as strong as the rumors suggested."

Jayden's eyes narrowed at that, and he started glancing over the walls and obstacles between him and the man. "If that's the case, then why are you after me?"

"hmph," taking a deep sigh, the raven-haired man cracked his neck, standing up straight as he did so. "Someone has a nice price out on you. It says alive, but I don't think they'll mind if I bring them your body."

Hearing that, Jayden charged, jumping on the wall, defying gravity as he did so to run at the man. Nearing the unfazed man, Jayden pushed off, intent on bringing his foot to the man's face. With a grin, the man rolled to the side, making Jayden run into the wall. His leg bending, Jayden then pushed off lightly, turning quickly to face his opponent.

Still smiling, the raven-haired man gripped the hilt of two knives he had, one in either boot. Standing up, Jayden cursed silently as the man came to his full height, holding the knives backhanded. "You're fast, I'll give ya that." Suddenly falling into a battle pose, both knives held in front of him, still backhanded, "I'm happy to say that this ends now." With that, he charged Jayden, arms going behind him as he did so.

Shouting, Jayden jumped back to avoid the first slash, ducking and weaving as each consecutive slash and jab came at him. He didn't dare to try and counter, not knowing how skilled, or lucky, his foe was. Jerking his waist back, his bag didn't get out of the way in time and his foes knife slashed straight through the strap as if it wasn't there, making the bag fall to the ground as Jayden continued to jump back.

Smiling, the raven-haired man pressed his advantage, flipping the knife in his right hand so that the blade was facing his thumb, and jabbed forward. With a strong push of his legs, Jayden backflipped, his feet bracing on the wall of the alley. With a shout, the man charged Jayden, just as he pushed off with his hands. The raven-haired man's knife rang against the brick face, and he watched as Jayden pushed off the wall, landing behind him. As Jayden landed, preparing to smash a fist into his enemy's face, the man slashed with his other knife, cutting Jayden's coat but just barely missing the skin.

The wild slash was the mistake Jayden was looking for, and he jerked out a hand, catching the man's elbow. Yelling in pain for a moment, the man bent over, intent on burying his other knife in Jayden's back. Simply tucking his shoulder, Jayden grabbed the man's already broken arm and pulled him over. With a grunt, the man slammed onto his back, knife slipping from his grip.

Falling on top of him, Jayden braced an elbow against his throat, slamming his head back to the ground. Leaning in close, "Why the hell is everyone after me?" Coughing, the man glared at Jayden, refusing to answer. With a small snarl, Jayden's hands were suddenly briefly engulfed in a blue flame, which washed over the man he was holding down. As the man started to yell in pain, Jayden slammed his head against the ground again. "Who sent you?"

With a resigned sigh, the man calmly looked up at Jayden. "Let up on the death grip, and I'll tell ya." With a glare, Jayden slowly released his elbow, but quickly brought a hand to the man's throat. "Fair enough," the man sighed. "I guess you need some answers?" All he got in response was a slight tightening of Jayden's hand around his throat. "Alright, alright!" The grip loosened again, "These people, what do you know about them?"

Jayden sighed, head hanging for a moment. "If I knew, I wouldn't be asking you."

The man looked shocked. True, surprise painted on his face. "Well then. This complicates matters a bit."

With a narrowing of his eyes, "What do you mean?"

Leaning his head back, "The Half-Bloods, that's their name. Recognize it now?" Now it was Jayden's turn to be shocked, and the man chuckled slightly. "So you do know them. Interesting."

Tightening his grip again, Jayden leaned in close to the man, "They're just a myth."

Laughing, the man squirmed for a moment under Jayden, "They're as much a myth as you are." Closing his crimson-tinted eyes, "Although I'll be the first to admit, they've shrunk back many of their operations after your exploits in Astra and Niger."

"What are you talking about? I've never had any missions against the Half-Bloods."

Laughing again, "That's more than likely because you didn't know it was. I doubt even your superiors would have known." Suddenly tilting his head slightly, "You might want to watch behind you."

A brief moment of confusion came over Jayden's face before he heard the crunch of gravel beneath someone's foot. Releasing his grip, he spun his leg around, catching one of the men he'd taken out before right in the knee. As the man fell, the knife he had in his hand flew from his grasp, and Jayden sprung up, only to bring an elbow down on the unfortunate's chest, slamming him into the ground hard enough to crack the pavement.

Standing up, Jayden turned to face the raven-haired man, only to let out a short "oh, damn." Before he even finished muttering the curse, a shadow ball hit him square in the chest, sending him into the wall. Falling off of the slightly cracked wall, Jayden caught himself with his knees and a hand, gasping as he tried to catch his breath. Time was not his friend though, as he was forced to jerk up his arms, crossing them to catch the arm of the raven-haired man.

The sheer force of the blow knocked Jayden's knees back to the ground, his brow breaking out in a sweat as he strained to fend off the attack. The man smiled down at Jayden, his fangs showing and his eyes turning a deeper shade of crimson. Bringing back his other arm, pain showing on his face as he did so, it started to glow with a dark power.

With Jayden's eyes going wide, he could only watch as the arm came in closer. Closing his eyes, Jayden exhaled slowly, focusing inward, letting the cares, worries, and troubles of the world fade from his mind. The more he concentrated, the more defined the aura-figure before him became, and the slower it moved. Soon, the whole of the alley was focused, the two men, unconscious but alive, bright spaces in the flow of life around him. Other things, the pavement, the bricks lining the walls of the alley, the trash that lined it further down, were dim in comparison, but there nonetheless.

As suddenly as his connection to the world flared, it faded, and his eyes snapped open. With a battle-roar, his hands were consumed in a blue flame. The other man did not even have a chance to react before Jayden jumped up, his one arm still caught in Jayden's vice-like grip. Jumping over the man, twisting him around as he did so, Jayden landed behind him, connecting an open palm with the man's back.

Shouting in pain, the man brought a leg around, and Jayden simply caught it with his forearm, pushing it away before bring his fist forward again. Ducking under it, the man brought his good arm forward, catching Jayden's leg. A startled shout left Jayden, and he kicked his other leg around, catching the man along the side of his head and sending him stumbling.

Catching the wall, and using it as a support, the man spun around again, a thin line of blood trailing down his face, lip split from Jayden's kick. Spitting, the man shouted as an orb of shadow started to form in his hand. Bracing himself, Jayden brought his own hands together, a glow coming from between them as an orb of his own started to form.

At the height of their strength, both of them threw their attacks at the same time. The sickly violet and bright azure orbs clashed, sending a large explosion throughout the whole of the alley. Jayden was forced to cover his face with an arm to protect from the debris that was thrown up.

When the explosion died down, he cautiously brought his arm away from his face. His still blue-burning eyes snapped wide, his head pivoting as he searched for the raven-haired man. Seeing nothing but the dust starting to settle, and the one of the two men he had beaten down, Jayden let out a loud curse.

The sound of sirens alerted him that he should be moving, and he quickly searched for his bag. Stepping over to it, he saw a single piece of paper, stuck with a knife to the ground, next to his bag. He kicked the knife away and then stooped down to pick up the paper. Eyes narrowing, he read the paper over -A pleasure to have crossed arms with you, next time it won't end in a draw my friend. Yours Sincerely, Ghost-

Jamming the paper into his bag, Jayden sighed deeply. Scooping up his bag, the clean-cut strap hanging low, Jayden quickly made his way towards the opposite end of the alley. Looking both directions, he tucked his bag under his arm, quickly moving off down the street. A police car drove by, making Jayden flinch slightly, but he forced himself to calm down.

Twisting his head, he watched as the police entered the alley, guns drawn. Wasting no more time, Jayden quickly made his way down the street, more and more people filling the sidewalks. Weaving in and out of the pedestrian traffic, he was soon lost completely in the crowd.

Watching from an overhang, several stories up and at the end of the alley, Ghost, the raven-haired man, smiled. As Jayden vanished into the crowd, not even leaving a hint of his passage, he grabbed hold of the gargoyle's head and swung down onto another ledge. With bent knees and a hunched back, he made his way to a window, slipping out another knife. Edging it into a small gap between the glass and the frame, he slipped the blade up, smiling as he heard the latch release.

Taking the blade, he slipped it into the bottom of the glass and lifted. When it was just high enough for him, he slipped a hand in, lifting the window the rest of the way. Grabbing ahold of the top of the window, he swung in, landing with a nigh-silent thump against the hardwood floor. He then stood up straight, patting down his jacket and slipping knife into its sheath, hidden by his waist and under his jacket.

Walking into the next room, he gave a nod to those gathered in it. There were four humans, two of them working at a computer, talking in a language that sounded like English, but had no meaning to him, filled with technical jargon and computer slang. Another one, a bright red-haired man, was sitting in the corner, parts to several different weapons set around him; when Ghost looked at him, he had a grip for a pistol in his hand, and was slowly polishing it, oil-stained rag leaving a shine in its wake.

After giving a nod to the man, who simply nodded back before going back to his cleaning, Ghost turned his attention to the last person in the room. Her burnt-blonde hair was neatly kept, not perfect but more than a passing thought had gone into keeping it. She was leaning over a table, pistol set next to her as she and a Gardevoir talked. "So we have the police running circles," the Gardevoir said, delicately placing one of her hands on an area of the map, "They think that it's a gang war, which should help us, as they'll turn all their attention to trying to quell the violence. They'll not even think of trying to reinforce the docks."

The woman looked at the map, eyes flicking around, "That could be," she said, sighing deeply, "or they could put extra force there to get the drugs that are being smuggled in." Leaning away from the table, pushing slightly with her hands, "Either way, we're playing a dangerous game. Greyson is looking for an excuse to eliminate us, we have to be sure he doesn't get it until we have a hand on his throat and a knife in his chest."

The Gardevoir bowed, right hand touching her left shoulder "Of course. If you'll excuse me, I have some calls I must make." Stepping around the table, she walked up to Ghost, "Hello my friend, I trust that your mission went well?"

Giving a small chuckle, "I'll tell ya all about it after I debrief Kayla."

Holding the back of her hand to her mouth, the Gardevoir chuckled, "You better tell me, I'll be sad if you don't." With a wink, she continued out, heading down the hallway and into another room.

Turning back to the woman, he took the last few steps until he was right in front of the table. "Kayla," he said in a rather neutral tone.

Looking up, the woman nodded an acknowledgment, "Ghost, how'd your meeting go?"

Sighing, Ghost pulled up a chair, turning the back to her and sitting down in it, he leaned on the back. "He's good, like you thought. Hell, I think you might have underestimated him."

This made Kayla look up from her papers, surprise in her eyes. "Really? Now why would you say that?" Turning her attention back to her papers, studying them as she awaited his answer.

Sitting up straight, crossing his arms behind his neck, "First off, you didn't tell me he was a half-blood."

"What?" She said in shock, jerking her up, "What did you just say?"

"Jayden, my target?" He said in an almost mockingly-questioning tone, "He's a half-blood. Lucario, if I had to guess."

Tapping her papers, Kayla set them down, "Well. This could be bad if mishandled then." Suddenly slamming a fist against the table, "Why does the bad luck always come at the most sensitive times?" She asked no one in particular. Running a hand along her temple, she sighed as she asked "What about Aura, do we have any news on her?"

Ghost sighed, resting his heads on his arms, "Haven't heard a peep since the Irishman took her. My sources within Greyson's organization haven't reported back. Either he's not got any information, or he hasn't had the chance to report."

"Damn," Kayla cursed, looking to the side. "What about Jayden? You never finished." She once again gave Ghost her attention.

Standing up, pushing the chair he'd been sitting on to the side, "He's good. The information from the Senator, and now what I just told him, should paint a nice picture of how the Half-Bloods are trying to kill him."

Nodding her head, Kayla let out a relieved sigh. "Good, then at least he'll be on his toes from now on." She brought her hand back to her forehead, rubbing it slightly as she groaned.

With a concerned look Ghost told her "Listen, take a couple hours, get some sleep. Arceus knows you need it." Kayla nodded and Ghost turned around, heading for the doorway. With one hand on the doorframe "Anything you need? Water, something for your headache, tea?" Kayla shook her head each time, and Ghost sighed. "Get some sleep." He semi-ordered while walking out of the room, not looking back to see if she did or not.
