A TASTE OF GREATNESS

Opening theme: Cruxshadows; Sympathy (lyrics copyrighted respectively to their owner)

I'm not asking for favors

not tonight

I look up in the sky......

all the rockets fall down (fall down)

too many promises

too many lies

too many faces for me to know

Sometimes I sit among the markers

and contemplate my next life

says something less sympathetic-

"a little more unconditional respect was buried here"

"But it never lived

and it never died

it never came from them

it was always inside......"

I don't care if time just passes us by

I can stand the change......

but not the cruelty

too many promises

too many lies

too many faces for me to know

Sometimes I sit among the markers

and contemplate my next life

says something less sympathetic-

"a little more unconditional respect was buried here"

"But it never lived

and it never died

it never came from them

it was always inside......"

Thy soul shall find itself alone

'Mid dark thoughts of the grey tomb-stone;

Not one, of all the crowd, to pry

Into thine hour of secrecy.

Be silent in that solitude,

Which is not loneliness- for then

The spirits of the dead, who stood

In life before thee, are again

In death around thee, and their will

Shall overshadow thee; be still.

The night, though clear, shall frown,

And the stars shall not look down

From their high thrones in the Heaven

With light like hope to mortals given,

But their red orbs, without beam,

To thy weariness shall seem

As a burning and a fever

Which would cling to thee for ever.

Now are thoughts thou shalt not banish,

Now are visions ne'er to vanish;

From thy spirit shall they pass

No more, like dew-drop from the grass.

As this giant example of masculine equine grace gazed upon him, Tursi felt he was very fortunate. Or cursed. Or both. Tursi had admired Gabrielle of the favored wind for some time. Not merely an admirer, a voyeur perhaps. Perhaps more. The blinding white pegasus appraised him musingly but not in a way Tursi had envisioned.

For tursi had snuck into Gabrielles' property for a closer look, maybe a souvenir.

"I see I finally meet my little kitty stalker. I wondered when I'd get to see what you were. You are good at that sneaking, you know. At first, I was unable to make much of your creed. But I see such skills are apt for a creature like you. Now that I have you, what shall I do? LION-your hunger is clear. I realize I am the meal you seek...or perhaps..."

Then the stallion grinned, allowing his pink cock to drool slowly from his sheath.

"Or perhaps you wish a boon of this treat?"

Tursi crawled humbly toward Gabrielle on his knees.

"Yes. That is all I desire. I want it so bad." Tursi moaned out in rapt hunger.

Gabrielle turned dispassionately away, exposing giant dove-like wings, and muscular buttocks with a silken waterfall of ivory between.

"And when you have it, will you be satisfied? will you leave me be after I am a mere notch in your size-queen antics?" Gabrielle snorted, displeased.

"never." tursi whispered, ashamed.

"What?!" Roared the stallion as he sucked his cock back in rapidly with one powerful abdominal contraction.

"Confound it! Then what the bloody hell do you want?" The pegasus snarled.

"You." tursi pleaded, now bowing before the great graceful being.

Gabrielle shrugged, annoyed.

"What you ask for is expensive. Know this. Before I can be yours, you must be mine for a year to use however I desire. You must be my slave before you can have the privilege of owning my heart. Do you accept this ideology-to share in my life as so humbly a creature, or will you continue to stalk me till your death. Yours because I am a demi-god whom is nearly immortal. I will share my weakness with you only when we are more than lovers; when we are one. I would not be so harsh in my conditions, if I did not see how badly you wanted me. I only have this trial for those who court me seriously, for my love and desire is difficult to earn. some days I wish to die, for my loves have been numerous, unaccountable. my sorrow is that you will neither be the first nor my last mate to die-that is my curse. Sometimes I visit them on the graveyard upon my property. Can you imagine how lonely that is? To outlive all you love not once, but hundreds of times? It's maddening, kitty, it makes you harder, makes you more aware of things besides life and death. Poets dream of me, romantics idolize me. Few however, can love me. And right now, lion cub, you do not love me. You think you love me, but in your erotic searches, you have mixed up love and lust just like the fools most mortals are. Hah! Even now, my legendary cock is all you can think about! But-I am more than a big slab of copulatory meat you feline simpleton!" Gabrielle bellowed.

"No. You are passion, unwanton intrepid desire. You are grace. You are poetry. You are the ecstasy in my heart that cannot be written nor described. You are joy so great that I at first fear it, for such feels so alien and unnatural. You are what men will sell their souls and lives recklessly to obtain. You are the nirvana few understand within themselves. You are the high that people of narcotics imagine in vain. Most of all, you are a bright...bold...dream. My dream. And no matter how you treat this lowly servant, I will cherish you like the humble mutt I wish to be." Tursi whispered out, awestruck.

"Then, that...indeed...is the answer I search for, for only a lover after myself could visualize what I am. What I represent to so many. And...what I actually mean to so few. Come to my arms. We shall partake of a feast before you start your commitment to me tomorrow. Perhaps, I might even let you use me however you wish later tonight, before I have you obey MY whims for the next twelve months."

Tursi found himself melting easily into the hot musky embrace of his stallion lover. For now, he was content with this alone, as he breathed in Gabrielles' sweet oat-smelling exhalations. If he truly had to wait a year to have his way with the pegasus stud again, this would be one looong night!

But suddenly, Gabrielle was not content with embrace alone!

Gabrielle leaned his pink-skinned muzzle into Tursi's. The stallion wanted a kiss as well!

Tursi opened his jaw, yielding to the great equines' advances. Gabrielle slid his tongue smoothly into that of the lions'. God! He tasted *purrs* wonderful! Tursi let himself collapse dizzily into the arms of the pegasus, faintly wondering what the rest of the love-making would be like. Gabrielle grips the back of his maned head, proceeding to take more assertive control with each thrust of his tongue. Memories flash erratically through Tursi's head;

Thousands of years of life, of wisdom, of regret and denial, of affection toward countless lovers. Millions of lovers, and yet, and yet it is truly amazing Gabrielle can recall them all; share them and their individual quirks as crisply as if they were photographed yesterday. The memory of immortals is long, but it does not seem to wax nor decline in any way. Memories of other stallions, cats, canids, reptiles, aquatic beings-and yet he can evoke each amusing personality for clarity as easily as blinking, no moment of love forgotten, no great secret hindered.

For all of time.

Gabrielle might as well be called upon as an unofficial chronicler, for all the knowledge he contains.

And Tursi now has reason for humility, for gratitude; What long-lived being of such perfection could find this tiny lion amusing when he had intimate relationships with hundreds before him?

For Tursi, this is somewhat disheartening; there isn't anything special about him to set him apart from the rest of these fondly missed creatures. What made him think he could be worthy of such attention?

Gabrielle rubs the lion in reassurance, trying to make Tursi ignore this newly found inadequacy.

He chooses me, isn't that enough?

One more memory leaks out into this link they share;

Gabrielle envies Tursi! Not the other way around.

It seems Tursi has something the pegasus does not.

Mortality.

Death is a gift many take for granted.

What does it entail, to live forever?

What can it be like to be alone for eternity? To have no one remotely like oneself?

After a great deal of regret, does Gabrielle let the lion back up.

"Hmmm. And what do you call that kitten?" The pegasus playfully enquired.

Tursi's eyes went wide with delight as he savored the essence of the equine saliva.

"What do I call that? I call that a taste of greatness." The lion purred affectionately. Gabrielle gave a humor-filled laugh at that.

A sincere laugh that Tursi knew Gabrielle hadn't experienced for some time.
