#2 of Bloody Red Sun of Fantastic L.A.

This is the first chapter of the story. This part is mainly going to deal with personal strength and endurance. I know that sounds weird but it will become more apparent in later chapters. Any comments, criticism, and/or suggestions are appreciated. I hope you enjoy.

Bloody Red Sun of Fantastic L.A.

Part I, Chapter I

** ** Klyzab had just awoken from a light nap. Being four years of age the nap was an ordinary occurrence. He walked down the short hall to the main room of the house. Upon entering the main room, he was greeted by his mother, Stijrs.

"I'm glad to see someone's up from their nap. Efuvno's finger painting in the kitchen why don't you go join her".

He hugged his mother "Okay mommy".

She patted him gently as he went into the kitchen. Stijrs returned to the book she had been reading as she kept a quiet watch of her children in the kitchen. Klyzab made his way silently behind his sister.

"What'cha painting"? She jumped ever so slightly at the well-meant but unexpected voice behind her before answering.

"A flower". He peered over her shoulder and saw a yellow flower with red spots clumsily, but prettily painted in front of him. After he finished looking at the flower he went around to the other side of the table. He pulled out a chair on the opposite side of table and took a sheet of white paper from a small pile near the center of the table. He saw that Efuvno had gathered most of the paints over on her side of the table, but there was still some left near the paper. He reached for a light brown color and brought it over to his side of the table. He stuck one of his fingers into the paint and started to draw, as best he could, their house. They sat their painting, and talking the mindless chatter of children that was dearly important to them but otherwise meaningless. Just as Klyzab was starting to finish the house he was painting he heard the phone ring, and saw his mother walk into the kitchen to answer it.

"Hello, wait, slow down Tumnef I can't even understand what you're saying, yes, no it's not on, what station, okay thank you". Klyzab looked up from his painting at his mother. He had heard her say Mrs. Tumnefs name and became interested about the conversation. He liked Mrs. Tumnef she helped watch Efuvno and himself when their mother had to do something.

"Mommy, was that Mrs. Tumnef"?

"Yes Klyzab, she just called to tell me some grown up stuff. You and Efuvno keep finger painting; I'll be back in just a second okay".

"Okay mommy". He didn't really understand what was happening but the thought of finger painting more soon made him forfeit any questions he was forming in his mind. He heard a small click in the living room and soon other voices echoed into the kitchen. Klyzabs ears perked up at the sound of the radio being turned on. Maybe his mother was putting on some music, as she sometimes did.

The sound that came from the main room of the house was not of the normal music that Klyzab enjoyed listening to but instead a series of loud beeps followed by some recorded voice talking.

"This is an emergency broadcast all residents are asked to evacuate their place of residence and quickly make their way to the nearest community shelter. This is not an emergency broadcast drill; this is not an emergency broadcast drill. All residents receiving this broadcast are asked to quickly make their way to the nearest community shelter". There was another loud series of drills before their mother turned off the radio.

Klyzab was scared and he could see that Efuvno had a worried look in her eye also. He didn't exactly know what all the words the radio had said meant, but they didn't sound like good things.

"Mommy"? He asked his voice trembling with the worry and frightful uncertainty.

"Sweetie, can you and Efuvno wash your hands and put the paint away for me"? Her voice sounded from the living room. It reassured Klyzab some, but it still didn't sound entirely correct. His mother's voice was slightly higher than she what normally talked in. Though the voice still reassured him so he responded to it.

"Okay mommy". He started putting the paint back on the small tins of paint. Efuvno help him too and soon they were done with their simple task. They both went over to the sink, but neither of them was tall enough to reach it. Efuvno came up with the idea of using a chair to reach the sink, and after dragging a chair over to the sink and climbing on it she started to wash her hands. She finished fairly quickly and hopped down off the chair so as to let Klyzab wash his hands. He climbed up the chair, which turned out to be somewhat challenging as he was trying not to get the paint on his hands on the chair. After he finally got to the level to the sink, he turned it on and washed all of the paint out of his thin brown fur. After he was done he turned off the sink and hopped down from the chair. After he and Efuvno pushed the chair back in place they went into the living room to look for their mother. Just as they went into the main room Klyzab saw his mother walking down the hall a large duffle bag in her hand.

"Come on you two were going to go for a car ride how does that sound"? Klyzab was momentarily happy at the thought of a car ride but the remembered to ask where they were going.

"Where are we going mommy"?

"We're going to go to the community center near the park won't that be fun you two"?

They were exited at this prospect and followed their mother eagerly out to the car. The car in the drive way was an ordinary three wheeled, fived seater, just like most people had. Their mother helped them into their booster seats in the back and buckled them in with a seat belt. Their mother got in next and but the duffle bag in the passenger seat. While their mother started the car and pulled out of the driveway Klyzab and Efuvno talked about what they would do once they were at the park.

"I'm going to go on the blue slide first, I like that one cause it's the faste-".

"Mommy! Look at the sky there are a bunch of falling shooting stars" Klyzab interrupted. His mother turned to look out the window and saw indeed there were a number of slowly falling objects in the sky.

All the falling shapes looked like tear drops across the eye of the doomed planet.
