this essay is i wrote describes the woods by my dads where i often go for hikes in at night during the spring and fall mounths

There are many reasons why I dislike the day. The day is bright, noisy, hot, and dull. That is why I prefer the night and all its beauty. We'll watch the sun set, wander through the darkness and finally explore under the rising moon. So let us begin on our wonderful journey through the sensual night.

We will begin our voyage as the sun sets. The sky is lit a blaze with beautiful pinks, wispy violets and fiery oranges. As the sun slowly dies out, the cool air begins to prick your skin like little needles getting us prepared for what is to come. Now the bats come out of their deep slumber screeching their song of navigation far above your head. As they dance in the sky the sun finally sets and only a few smoldering embers can be seen in the horizon.

Now it is officially night we move further in to the darkness. Forward we shall march on the blackened earth that has formed without the presence of the ever burning ball of gas that keeps the majestic night at bay. Into the woods we shall observe the nature of the night. Deeper we go until the sweet scent of freshly bloomed moon blossoms catches your noise. They smell like honey mixed with strawberries and a stick of cinnamon added to the mix. We continue to move blindly, guide only by instinct we come across the sound of two deer running. We stand still as the dear walk up to you without any alarm, but curiosity as they inspect us. Looking into their eyes you see the world a new. As if though their eyes you have experienced their way of life full of danger yet always peaceful. Now we both move on our ways just as the moon begins to rise.

The moon reveals many hidden treasures of the secret night. Such as the blabbering brook where three young foxes playfully wrestle as their mother keenly watches for any sign of danger. Their coats red as hot iron left in the oven to be smith into a nail. Above a wise owl hoots to them warning them to stay away from him as he guards his freshly hatch chicks, while his mate hunts for food. Our presence becomes known as the mother shushes of her kits and stays behind to ensure we won't follow. After convinced her kits are safe she quietly vanishes into the night never to leaving a trace. Further we wonder as the wind blows causing the ancient oaks to creek and crack giving new rhythm to the world. As if they became ghostly instrument playing a song that only the earth itself could truly understand. A song full of both pain and joy that tells of the past and of the future; just as you finally think you understand them. The wind stops leaving you hanging and you forget the hidden melody of the night.

Just as the moon hits its peak we shall return home passing all we have seen during the sun set, while in the darkness and finally as the moon rises I hope those reading this have enjoyed the beauty of the eternal night.
