Chapter 2
I was very drowsy, my whole body was aching of course, but somehow drowsy. The pain was good, it reminded me I was still alive. I didn't know why I was alive but that didn't matter right now. All that mattered was that I could stay near Raya, keep her close to me. I hadn't felt these feelings much in my past so I didn't know what they meant. My only hope was that Raya was there when I woke up. The last of my consciousness floated away after that thought and I was engulfed by darkness yet again.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" voices, I could hear voices. They were slightly garbled and faded in and out but I could catch enough of it to make out the sentences.
"I don't know, it shouldn't even be remotely possible for a human to live through what he did"
"Oh Mother! I hope he lives, I truly do!" I could hear sobbing. It wasn't too hard to figure out who it was and I figured it was Raya. My whole body ached but I tried my hardest to move my lips.
"Ra...ya?" It hurt, I didn't like it but I would do everything in my power to make sure she knew my life had not been lost.
"J..Joey?! Oh thank the DigiGods you're still alive!" I managed to open my eyes before she leapt forward and embraced me. 'Ow!' my mind was screaming but I wouldn't allow my body to show it.
"You're very lucky, human. You should be long dead by now" That Taomon, still a bitch I see.
"Yeah, well I never really was a consistent guy" I said weakly, although being a smartass in my condition wasn't a very good thing to do and Taomon made sure of that.
"Ow! God Damnit!" Taomon had slapped my face. Coupled with the healing gash on my head it didn't feel very good.
"Calm down, she's the one who healed you so be grateful, okay" then she whispered "She's got a very short temper" I could already tell the three of us were going to be friends just like the Three Stuges.
"Yeah, alright. In any case there's something I need to do before I probably get strangled to death" Taomon seemed irritated but held her claws still.
"And what's that human?"
"I'm going to have to tell my family I'm leaving" This shocked them both. I have a way of doing that to people... or humanoid fox people.
"Why would you have to do that"
"Well I can't go home now, seeing as I'm a few hits from going into a coma , on top of that it would be pretty hard to tell them that I was attacked by a digital kitsune and that the digital kitsune has a daughter who'd protect me from anything now would it?" They understood my reasons. I would probably skip the goodbyes and just leave a note of my departure and take a few belongings.
"But then where would we go?" Raya had a pretty good question.
"The only place we can go where I won't be put in an insane asylum and you won't be put into a government lab: The Digital World" Nowhere on Earth would be safe to go to. We'd be running for the rest of our lives if we stayed there.
"And why should I allow that, human?" I was getting irritated at her calling me "human" for all she knew I was much more than a mere human.
"First of all my name isn't "human" it's Joseph, and to answer your question there is no definite answer. It would probably be your choice" I hated being at the mercy of others.
"Please Mother?" I could hear by Raya's voice that she wanted to stay with me.
"..... Fine! The human can come."
"Hooray, Joey can come with us!" She then jumped at me.
"Ah, crap" She grabbed me lifted me into the air and then swung me left in right in a tight embrace. I couldn't move at all and it hurt but it was nice she cared so much "AAAAHHHH!" I screamed as I was swung like a ragdoll. She finally stopped swinging me but kept the vice like hug "Raya...can't breathe"
"Oh, sorry about that" She was blushing through her fur. Taomon was getting visibly annoyed at the affection we showed each other.
"If you're done, I'd like to get back as I can"
"Alright, just let me get back home to leave a note and grab some belongings" I turned around and started running for home, "Last one there's a rotten Eggmon!" I taunted them, and then took off like a rocket.
"Oh no you don't!" Raya chased after me. She was having a visibly hard time keeping up with me, which was strange because that wasn't supposed to be possible.
We reached home twice as fast as it took to originally get from home to the construction site. Everything didn't make sense, I should be dead right now, but here I am sprinting home without a pain in my body. Luckily we got home at around 2 P.M. So I would have about an hour to get ready and out of there.
I reached my house and opened the door, Raya followed but Taomon stopped outside the door. I still didn't like her but I had to show some courtesy so I invited her in. "Would you like to come in?" She was surprised I asked but took the offer.
"Yes, thank you...Joseph" it was nice that she said my name instead of my species.
When we were all inside I grabbed a piece of paper and some tape and wrote down my 'goodbye' note.
'Dear Family,
I'm sorry I have to leave so unexpectedly but if you knew my reasons you wouldn't believe me anyway. Don't bother looking for me because I won't be in this world. I'm not committing suicide so don't worry. This is where I take my leave, Goodbye.

Simple and quick, it didn't take more than a minute to write. I took the paper and taped it to the front door.
"The note's finished, I'm just going to grab a bag to get some stuff packed"
"I'll go with him" Raya proceeded in following me downstairs. Taomon seemed suspicious of us but let it go.
"So, what do you think of my mother?"
"Well she packs a punch that's for sure"
"yeah...I'm so glad you're alive, I really am"
"I know, just being without you would feel horrible, let alone what would be happening to me in Hell." We both shared a warm-hearted laugh as I grabbed my bookbag and started grabbing some clothes. I also grabbed a few books I liked, my music player, some CD's, my laptop, and some things for hygiene.
"Alright, I think that's enough of that stuff. I'll just need to pack some food and we'll be ready to go"
"mm, yeah" Something was bothering Raya and I noticed it quickly.
"What's wrong Raya?"
"Well, it's just that... you know I don't know for sure but I think... Oh just come over here!" She grabbed the back of my head and pulled me into a deep kiss. At first I resisted, but I soon became accustomed to the feeling and enjoyed it. When we pulled out we were both out of breath and flustered.
"Wow, just...wow"
"Yeah" We took a moment to get back our composure and walked back upstairs. Taomon was looking around the house, I could tell where Raya's curiosity came from. I didn't want to interrupt her so I just went over to the cupboard and grabbed a few cans of tin packaged food, I also grabbed a bunch of water bottles, 3 cans of soda, a bag of plastic eating utensils, and a few of what are called "life straws", apparently they can let you drink from nearly any water source for up to a year and the straw will filter out all bacteria, they're pretty cheap too.
"Well, that's all we'll need..." I noticed that Raya and her mother had discovered the television. It was the History Channel, a program on World War 2 was on. At this point it was talking about how the Nazis had taken millions of Jews from their homes and businesses and put them in Concentration Camps. It was talking about how many of the people died in a matter of a few years. It moved on to show us what the gas rooms were and what they did. Raya and Taomon gasped at what was being shown to them. It was so inhumane, more horrible than anything Taomon could or ever would do.
"Wh...Why would anyone ever do such a thing" She probably wouldn't want to hear anything about any other large wars, she'd probably never think of humans the same.
"Don't you see little one, this is what humans do" I knew Raya wouldn't believe this but I was annoyed enough to speak up.
"That isn't true, or at least not for many of us" The pair finally noticed my presence.
"Oh, and how not?"
I began to explain, "That war was started by a small group of men, they were corrupt but they were doing what they thought was right. They were the cause of many deaths. You must know that there were many people who wanted to stop them of course. The country you are in now wanted to stop them also. Hell was paid to the ones who caused this. I hate anyone who would try to kill anyone without reason. If you don't want to look upon the majority of the human race at least look at me. I know death is a large part of life and is essential for keeping it but if it is done without being the last choice you have then I don't condone it." I like to make speeches like that to teach someone a lesson.
"I see, I'm sorry I judged you humans so quickly" I could tell she was being sincere.
"Don't worry about it, I've done the same many times before. Now if we want to get to the Digital World we should go about now. We don't have long before my family arrives"
"Alright, do you have an area with less objects in our way?"
"Follow me to the backyard" We walked out the back door and got to the middle of the yard.
"Alright, stand close to me and hold on to my robes" Raya and I did as told. Taomon started glowing with power. There was a large flash and then we stood in front of a seemingly endless plane.
We were in the Digital World.
