All right most of you wanted to know what I have been working on and here it is. A good portion of this information came from the Chakats Den, so I do not own copyright on any of the characters or events, etc. More to follow

CHAPTER 1

With the early morning sunlight just reaching up past the mountain just breaching the valley in front of him, Jonathan let out a sigh choosing to stay on the hill top rather than start cooking breakfast. Arriving just about two days earlier having made up camp up on one of the many hills that overlooked a beautiful forest valley that sat below him, he had chosen to stay there until this day until before continuing.

Originally starting out as a camping trip into the wilderness on the outer part of the Northern Oregon Territory, set up for the Red Foxtaurs after the Gene war, a 40 year war that showed both the worse sides of the combatants that scarred the earth. The landscape ravaged making the land barely able to support crops, wildlife or anything to live off it. The government that was left over from the war, decided that the foxtaurs that had been created to fight the war for either side should have a good piece of land to do with what they please either planting crops or hunting the animals that fed off the land also.

Surprisingly enough was that even though many thought that the task was impossible, the foxtaurs were able to flourish upon the land and get everything to grow. Where few foxtaurs started on the land, soon grew into large clan's families started forming up. Where these use to be just devastation of waste and burnt forests, became once more beautiful landscapes looking truly pure and untouched by mankind's weapons of mass destruction.

This was one reason why Jonathan loved hiking and camping up here away from the coldness and bitterness of the campus on the university. There the racist and cold feelings toward furies had split the campus down the middle like back in the 1960's in which African American's were the targets of hate crimes, however now it were the furies that became the targets.

Off the bat having noticed the actual crisis here where a person where being human, was picked out by both sides deciding on where he or she would belong. You were either with the Humanity First group, the main hate group that seemed to fill the space after the war that spread across Earth and its colonies very quickly or you were considered a Fur Lover in which you became a target for H1 (Humanity First) groups and sometimes other furies that held a grudge against many humans for different reasons.

Jonathan found himself on neutral grounds avoiding either side wanting to get writing and art degree here is the only goal in his mind. Not really caring about the ideals of H1 for the second reason why he had liked it here.

Having been born on Earth, he suppose as an orphan in which the only home that he knew for the first five years of his life was that of an orphanage that became home of both humans and furies orphans...most of them being war orphans. It was a depressing sight and thought at times; of how both sides of the war could take away parents of children and no one that commanded the troops and ships seemed to care about the children that were made orphans by their actions.

Jonathan grew up being a loner almost staying to him most of the time looking to keep to being busy by writing and drawing when he learned so in schooling away from the orphanage when he got older. The few friends that he did have were mainly that of the species of the chakats, a breed of feline that shared dual sex and were a very kind being showing that they weren't the distrusting kind of anyone except for the ones they knew were someone that hated furies.

One day a chakat couple that came in expressing the desire to look for a child(ren) to adopt and bring them into a loving home to join their family. It would be later revealed that they were well known to being loving people and it turned out that they had biological children of their own but they have seen how many children that were left by the effects of the war. It was one of the main reasons why they were here being that they hated the idea of kids being without parents because of a dreadful conflict.

The children went about playing as usual however the human children tried to hide away from the sight of their visitors not wanting to end up being chosen for adoption. Although chakats had empathic senses that allowed them to feel other furies and humans emotions, they knew the true reasons about not seeing many humans, and unhappily they went about looking through the furry children. Looking for the right choices that they felt would be comfortable in their family.

Jonathan at that time had been drawing in a room that overlooked the playground outside allowing him for good test subjects for paintings. Now most of his drawings that he had created weren't what people would call great but still caught the attention of many parents that were looking for children...however that didn't mean that he was chosen for adoption which was fine with him mostly. It was at this time that the couple stopped just inside the door-way peering inside a bit surprise that he was sitting inside away from the other children.

"Hello." One of the chakats said causing him to look up in surprise. Turning around away from the drawing, he was amazed at the sight before him although he had seen chakats before he was a bit taken back by these two as they seemed different to him. One chakat that was talking to him was about 5' 10" covering in a weird looking pattern of black and silver streaks that criss cross over hir body not ending until it reached hir head. The only thing that stood out about hir was hir purple hair that flowed down the middle of her back breaking the pattern.

The other chakat had a simpler color to hir body than hir mate, pure white with blue hair and mane standing about an inch taller than hir mate.

"Hi." He answered offering a kind smile.

"Very nice picture you have there." Shi said indicating the painting in front of him. "Why aren't you outside playing with the other children?"

"Not really safe outside, too many fights sometimes most of the time. I usually play with some of the foxes and chakats but the other children are just bullies. I usually like drawing when I feel there may be fight." He answered indicating the painting in front of him.

"So you don't mind having furies as playmates?" hir mate asked.

"No...they are truly interesting and more playful." He said. This caused the two to look at each other offering a smile with a nod before saying good-bye to him leaving him once again alone.

About a couple of days later, he was sitting under of the trees that were in the backyard where the playground was located, reading one of the many books located in the playroom where some of the younger children liked playing during the day. When he and three other children; a vixen foxtaurs, a vixen morph, and a chakat that everyone that knew hir called 'sneaky' because she was always sneaking up on people when they didn't expect it, were called into the orphanages mistress that ran the orphanage. An elderly yet very kind woman that was in her early 60's although she didn't show or act her age as she was always chasing, playing and very active with the children that she cared for.

When the children arrived in the main office, they found the two Chakats that had visited some time ago, standing there with a welcoming smile for each. "Thank you all for coming, children. I would like you to meet Shirs Icecrystal and hir mate Silver streak, many of you may have already have met them when they first came here. Many of you may suspect the reason why you are here, so I will allow them to tell you." She said allowing the one that Jonathan could guess was Silver to speak.

"Thank you, Miss Celgry. Hello, children. I want to thank you for coming here, you may guess that we would like to bring all three of you into our family as we know that many of you aren't use to a family environment."

"And we want you to understand that it's going to be a lot more different than what you are used to here." Ice said with the foxtaur and chakat seemingly being the only ones that knew about the lifestyles of the family. One thing that was shared by both kinds of species was that the whole family sleeps together in the same room, there wasn't the option of being alone.

The children in the orphanage were given a bed of their own but they did sleep in the same room just not in a huge pile of body mass, however the chakat children and foxtaurs usually ended up sleeping on the same bed because it's the only way that they could sleep comfortably.

"Now we understand that a couple of you aren't use to it so we have set a room for each if you would like to sleep alone however if you wish to be sleep with the rest, you are more than welcome. You must realize that a chakat family is a very loving environment where you will receive support no matter what so you should never feel alone." Silver said allowing for the group to feel a bit more at ease. For Jonathan it felt strange for him because he knew that the family group thing was going to be very strange environment for him to step into. However the idea of being inside a family environment was something that he looked forward to.

After some talking between the two groups, the adoption papers were signed and the three children were asked to pack up anything that they had in their procession. It took about a few minutes to for the group to gather their things and bid the others a good-bye before meeting the two chakats at the door leading outside.

Already the selected few were sharing both excitement and nervousness about the fact that they were finally getting out of here and to be accepted into a family setting. For Jonathan it was something like a mixture of both because being accepted into a family it meant getting out of this kind of environment where fights among the children were common, and getting caught up in one seemed likely whenever you were to step outside.

Bidding the mistress a good-bye which was tearful because the old woman was so kind to them and was the first mother that most of them recognized in their life. However it was time to get going to a newer home, where a future awaited for them.

Loading the children into the PTV or Personal Transport Vehicle that was set up for family use big enough to fit an entire family of Chakats comfortably. With silver streak sitting down behind the controls with Ice sitting back in the passenger area with the children allowing Sneaky to snuggle up beside hir.

Jonathan watched as the orphanage and the old lady that he had grown up to the current age had always known as home disappeared from sight with a new future looking at him in the face.

It took about 30 minutes to get to the place that the group figured would be their new home, a residence that was about 2 story home that looked so appealing and welcoming from the outside. Toys scattered around the yard although it was clearly taken care of that's for sure offering for a place to enjoy the weather when possible.

Everything seemed perfect as the PTV finally came to a rest on the parking lot when the front down opened allowing for two chakat cubs about the ages of 3 and 2 came charging out to meet the newcomers looking full of energy. When the vehicle's engine shut down and doors open to allow for the occupants to step out, they never got a chance when the two cubs jumped into the car pouncing on the new members of the family before they could get out of the car.

The once orphans ended up on the ground of the vehicle laughing their heads off as the cubs gave them lick kisses offering a purring as a welcome in the process. The youngest cub stopped and looked up at Jonathan a bit confused by seeing a human among the group of furs until he smiled and started to scratch behind the cub's ears which caused hir to start purring loudly.

Given some time, the cub actually stopped purring allowing him to pull his hand back revealing a smile playing across hir face, given sometime shi took the opportunity to tackle Jonathan a brief minute after withdrawing his hand from between hir ears. Within minutes, shi was licking away at his face beginning to purr even louder causing him to laugh his head off.

"All right, snow. Let him up." Ice said laughing hirself as shi moved over to where Jonathan was laying. Gleefully the cub jumped off of him allowing Jonathan to sit up. Ice leaned down and helped him to his feet trying to avoid from continuing to laugh. "I see that you met Snowy, Silver is hir mother and I am hir sire."

"Shi is spunky...but I can see why you call her snowy." Jonathan said grinning. Indeed the cub's fur was that of snow almost pure white except for the slight hint of pink just peeking out from the fur.

"That shi is however shi is one to get too trusting newcomers quickly." Ice said as the older cub came over offering a welcoming purr to Jonathan. "This is Waterfall."

Taking a look at hir, Jonathan couldn't understand how she got the name because hir fur was of a dark maroon and brown color to it with a wavy mane and black hair. When he turned toward Ice raising an eyebrow which shi took as a question about the older cub's name. "Shi enjoys waterfalls and swimming near one whenever we go hiking and camping."

Jonathan offered a smile in return as Ice looked up noticing a new Chakat walk out of the house with a smile on hir face. This time the chakat had a pattern of maroon, black and brown colors that portioned out on hir body, hir front and hind legs being mainly colored of maroon with the black on hir back while the brown starting at the underside of hir muzzle going straight down hir underside where it continued before disappearing. "Hey, Maroon. Did these little terrors give you any kind of trouble?"

"None that I am not ready for, Ice. So these are the new kids huh?" shi asked indicating the new children that were getting themselves straighten up after being pounced on and tickled by the two terrors.

"Yep," Ice said sniffing the air, "Ooooh what's cooking?"

"I figured that everyone would like something tasty for our guests." Shi said offering a grin. "It's just about ready if you all would like to come with me."
