...A Little More Action, Please

Before I could grab him, he leapt into the sky and zipped away from me. With a growl of anger and frustration, I leapt after him, wings tucked as close to my body as I could, I wanted the least wind resistance I could get away with.

He was fast, as fast as before, but I knew I could keep up with him. I considered going back to get Lethias and Kayden, but I feared I would lose track of Echron in the process. No, I unfortunately had to do this myself.

I zipped along the underbellies of the clouds, keeping a good distance between Echron and myself, I wanted to see him, but not confront him. I knew that if I pissed him off, he might just flip out and do a shitload of damage. Then again, he was likely going to do that anyway, I suppose it was a catch-22.

I had to play this one cool. A thought that bothered me deeply, but I had to play by his rules.

Damn, I hate being a good guy. You can't just kill the bad guy; you have to make sure that you don't kill any innocents in the process. Sometimes I just wanted to be the antihero, destroy everything in my way, but it doesn't work that way. I don't want to be hated that much.

I was keeping a close track of where I was. I could see fields and farms and forests everywhere. I looked ahead to see the glint of the sun reflected off the windows of a tall building. It was still miles away, but my eyes were keen, and I could see the city.

I had no idea what city it is, but it had to have half a million people or more. It was larger than London, this much was obvious.

As we got closer, he angled down to the city and turned in the air, as if to mock me, then he sharply turned and fell to the ground like a meteor. I had no choice but to follow.

We both crashed down on a road between large buildings, causing people to scream and scatter in fear. I looked around and surveyed the situation.

We were in the middle of a city, tall business buildings surrounded us, cars were lining the road, and there were people everywhere, most of them were panicked.

"You see this Ceylon?" Echron asked slyly as he motioned his paw towards the running humans. "Look at them, scared of us before they take the time to get to know us. Their fear is default, they just look at us as different, and we're therefore deadly. Pitiful humans and you want to save them?"

My eye twitched in exasperation as I stifled a laugh. "Are you fucking retarded? They know who you are and what you did. You destroyed a city, and then you told the world you were going to do it again. They're afraid of you, and with good reason. Are you so mentally challenged that you can't even understand that?"

"What about you? They don't even know you, and yet you still strike fear in their hearts. Do you think you'll ever convince them you're not a monster?"

I rolled my eyes and spread my wings; the tips touched the buildings on either side. I waved a claw to the people, "Echron, they fear me because you made the world think we were all terrorists. Before you destroyed anything, people were clapping and applauding at my silly antics. They liked me. I had a place in this world until you destroyed it. This is your fault, not theirs."

He just growled. "You're so ignorant, how many times must they prove themselves unworthy before you realize it?"

I folded my wings back up and walked towards him, eyes glowing with anger and frustration. "I swear you're retarded. Let's spew off a whole bunch of hateful rhetoric to blame our actions on others. Frankly, you need to shut up and fight, but let's do it somewhere else."

"Somewhere else?" He scoffed, "Why do you think I came here? I said I was going to strike again, and you're my accomplice!" without warning, he raised his paw and shot a ball of energy towards one of the buildings. I picked up a car and threw it in the path of the ball, causing the car to blow up instead of having the building get hit and potentially collapse. He'd blown up buildings before, he could do it again.

Using that distraction, I dove at Echron, tackling him in a flurry of feathers and fur. People had left their cars and the streets were almost entirely barren, save a few spectators that were trying to watch the action.

The two of us rolled into an intersection, punching, kicking, and clawing at one another. We stopped rolling and I was on top of him, so I punched as hard as I could into his head, but he dodged it and I punched into the concrete below, my fist plunging a foot into the ground.

Echron bunched up his legs and kicked me off him and into a street light pole, causing the pole to bend down on itself, sparks flying everywhere.

He kicked himself to his feet and shot an energy ball at me, which I took in the chest rather than dodging it and letting it hit a building. The explosion melted the feathers on my chest and singed my beak, but I didn't let this bother me.

I steadied myself on my feet and was knocked right off them again as he grabbed my arm and flipped me over and onto a car. The glass shattered everywhere and the car was nearly flattened.

I groaned and lay there, immobile. But the quietness didn't last long. A moment later, the sun was blotted from my eyes as another car was thrown on top of me, crushing my chest in on itself, the ribs puncturing my lungs.

I tried to take in a deep breath, but it was hard. With a burst of energy, I threw the car off myself and stood up, fire in my eyes. My magics were already at work, re-aligning my ribs and fixing my lungs. With my new lungs, I took another deep breath and glared at Echron, but he was running at me already.

He tried to tackle me, but I readied myself and braced the impact. Instead of tackling me over, Echron was surprised to see that I now had a hold of him, and I was lifting him up, flipping him over my shoulder and onto the ground beside me.

He landed on the ground with a crack as the pavement split below him, and I quickly gave him a swift kick in the ribs, causing him to fly into a pillar of a nearby building.

Before he landed, I'd jumped to him already and was bringing my knee up to his head, slamming his skull into the marble pillar that he'd hit a moment before.

He was huffing and heaving as he landed on all fours on the ground at my feet.

"Had enough? Ready to call it quits?" I offered.

He coughed and looked at me, blood dripping from his muzzle, and he smiled. "Do you really think I'll quit?" he snarled as he jumped up, trying to headbutt me in the chin, but I pushed him to the side, causing him to flail wildly for a moment before I raised a leg to kick him in the chest, throwing him back down the street.

He used this momentum to spin around midair and fly away, trying to get away from me. I quickly followed suit and dove after him, flying just a few meters above the street.

As he flew, he was shooting balls of energy at the buildings and vehicles as he flew by them. Luckily, he wasn't using his full potential, so he wasn't doing too much damage, and it was easy to magically extinguish the fires as I flew by in his wake.

Sick of waiting, I sped up and grabbed his leg, ripping him down to the ground violently, the two of us rolling over one another as we vied for dominance over the other. With a roll and a kick, I threw him into a small commercial building, the sign crashing and sparking with electricity.

I rolled to my feet to see Echron land on the ground in a shower of sparks. Using my magic, I amplified the sparks and shot a bolt of electricity into his body, causing him to convulse erratically, the electricity coursing through his veins.

I lunged at him, claws outstretched to grab him; I clutched his neck tightly and focused on fire, causing his fur to erupt in flames. I could smell the flesh burning and cooking underneath, and it was a rather hideous stench, but I had to do it.

I felt him writhing in my claws, and frankly it felt good. I knew I was doing the world a favour, and I guess Ceylon had some bloodlust in him.

After a moment of intense searing fire, he went limp in my claws. I thought I'd finally done something of worth by killing him, but right as I was about to let him go, he grabbed my arm and screamed loudly, the fire exploding in a giant blast that filled the streets.

Surprised by the sudden and unexpected surge of energy, I dropped him to the ground and stumbled backwards. The fires were extinguished instantly, and for a moment, I saw his scarred and melted flesh. That didn't last long though, as I could see the skin reform and the fur re-grow in less than a second.

I rolled my eyes and sighed heavily, Man, this guy doesn't die! What the hell were his capabilities? How strong is his healing? What were his limits? I know he was strong, but he seemed impossible to kill!

While I took a moment to ponder his abilities, I saw him whip around his paw and seemingly manifest a sword out of nothing and swing it at me. I stepped back and easily dodged the swing and he took a strong backhanded swing at me, which I also dodged.

He was swinging wildly now, no real direction or focus. All I had to do was keep stepping backward to avoid the blade.

He stepped back and tried to do a heavy swing down on my head, but I telekinetically stopped it, causing it to hover just a few inches from my beak. "This is getting tiresome." I growled then released a wave of energy that knocked him back into the building through the front window.

I lumbered over to the building so that I could continue the attack, but I was too big to fit in the front window or door, so I ripped a chunk of the frame out so I could go in, but he released a large ball of energy that actually sent me flying and spinning back to the building across the street.

Glass shattered and rock crumbled around me as I fell to my feathered ass. I shook the rubble off me and fluffed my feathers. I stood up and looked around for Echron, but I couldn't see him and I couldn't feel him telepathically.

I started to get a little worried, I should at least be able to sense him, but I had nothing. I could tell at this point he wasn't stronger than I was, so I knew he wasn't blocking me out.

CRACK!

There was a loud boom as the top of the store exploded upwards, splinters, boards, rocks, and bricks exploded onto the street and the cars.

Reacting quickly, I jumped up into the air and pursued him again, quickly grabbing onto his back and weighting him down, this caused him to go spiraling out of control and right into the top corner of a skyscraper. The two of us quickly separated and we both tumbled across the roof of the building, rolling across the gravel as we fought to regain control.

We both rolled to our feet at the same time and steadied ourselves.

It was an epic scene, two overly large furs on the top of a skyscraper, facing off against one another. We stared at one another for a good 30 seconds, which seems like an eternity when you're adrenaline is pumping.

He took a run at me as fast as he could, shooting balls of energy at me as he went, trying to distract me, but I wasn't distracted. I took each and every shot straight in the chest and braced myself for his attack.

He struck me with the power of an oncoming truck, and I flipped him over my shoulder and into the little ledge at the top of the building, causing it to collapse, chunks of cement and flecks of gravel falling to the ground below as Echron fell with them.

I dove over the side as well, shooting balls of fire and ice at him, pushing him down and disorienting him so he couldn't regain his composure and fly again.

I pushed myself lower as we both fell and I grabbed him. The two of us tumbled in the air; he was trying to get away as I kicked and punched him. Before we landed on the ground, I kicked him into the side of the building as I fell back onto another roof of a smaller building, knocking him through the glass and into the offices. People inside had to scatter, they hadn't gotten the chance to leave the building yet.

Poor folks, oh well. No sacrifice, no victory!

Echron tried to get out of the building and fell face-first to the pavement below, I jumped down to get him. He was stumbling and trying to get to his feet.

He'd taken stronger hits than that, but falling made him weak? I wasn't buying his game; I knew he was playing possum. Little did he know I had no mercy!

When I got close, he reached up and grabbed my leg, begging for mercy. He seemed so small and insignificant compared to me. Despite his impressive, muscled, 8 foot tall frame, he was tiny compared to my 12 feet.

I glared down at him and grabbed him by his head, applying force to either side, popping it like a zit, "Is it mercy you want? Did you offer mercy to those you deemed inferior? No, I think I'm going to enjoy this!"

I glared at him and squeezed harder, relishing in the fact that he was writhing in pain, his face contorted in fear.

I was doing the world a favour, and it felt good, even though I knew it shouldn't. Was this sadistic of me? Was this sick? Did I care? All I knew was that I was getting revenge and doing the world a favour in the process, as far as I was concerned, there was no harm done.

I was starting to hear his skull cracking when I heard a high frequency followed be the materialization of a small black disc above us.

I barely had time to contemplate what it was before it quickly fell to the ground, seemingly erasing Echron from existence, then disappearing on the ground.

I backed up, confused for a moment before I realized what it was. It was a portal, and Echron somehow teleported out of here to someplace safe.

Why he didn't do that earlier is something that seemed to make no sense. Maybe someone else did it for him?

It was just then that I noticed that my front claws were gone just below the elbow. Not ripped off, more like they'd been cut off with a laser, gone with Echron to wherever it was he left to.

I blinked a few times in shock and got a good look at the stump. There was no blood; the wound was already healing over. Good old regeneration, the portal may have taken my claws, but they would be back.

Frustrated, I fluffed out my wings and slumped down on the road. It was right then that people started to nervously come out of buildings to get a look at me.

Of course they were worried that I was going to kill them, but most of them knew that the wolf was the bad one, and the enemy of the enemy is your friend.

"I'm fine guys; I promise I won't hurt you."

They were still nervous, but a couple of them walked toward me. One man in a torn business suit came up to me and asked, "You...you tried to save us, right?"

I nodded slowly. "Mmhm. I did. That wolf is a bad guy, wants to kill you all, I can't have that now, can I?"

Seeing that I wasn't killing the man, or even doing anything to him, others started to follow his lead and come to me as well.

"Is he coming back?" a woman asked nervously.

"How did you do that?" Another man asked.

"Is your hand alright?"

You know; the usual slew of questions.

"Whoa dude, your hands, they're coming back!"

I looked down to see if what he said is true, and of course, it was. I'd already grown most of the flesh back and they were forming the claws. I knew it seemed physically impossible, but it was happening.

I just shrugged my shoulders and stood up, spreading my wings; I was more than twice the height of most of the people in the crowd, and my wings were really huge, spanning almost from building to building. "Well, I don't know if he's coming back, I can't guarantee anything; I have magic thanks to the change, my hand is fine, and I have to go, I have friends that might be hurt."

And with that, I leapt up to the sky and flew out of there as fast as I could, hoping to get back to the others as fast as I could. I left the humans to discuss my presence and sudden leave on their own. They'd be fine.

If Echron somehow teleported back to Lethias and Kayden, he could do some damage. I couldn't have that!

With a little bit of worry in my heart, I raced through the sky as fast as I could, but then it occurred to me that I could likely use my psychic ability to see if they were okay.

Give me a break, this was my first day in my new body, I wasn't exactly proficient in utilizing his every ability yet.

Using my telepathy, I could tell they were fine, but still feeling a little hostile, so I didn't slow down, I continued my pace.

It couldn't have taken more than ten minutes to get back to where the others were, and from the sky, I still saw a heap of dead bodies piled high, but this time there were two live figures: A red dragon and a black fox.

Lethias was pacing back and forth while Kayden sat on a stump.

I descended as quickly as I could and landed just to the side of both of them. They both turned to me.

"Finally." Kayden said dryly.

"Dude, where have you been?" Lethias practically shrieked, "Are you alright?"

I looked down at my claws, which had almost fully regenerated, and shrugged. "I guess so; I seem to be alright, why?"

"You disappeared, where did you go?" Lethias asked, a deep and honest concern making itself known through the wavered sound in his voice.

I stared at him, confused. Did he not see where I went? Did he not see that I was following Echron? I mean, that much was pretty self-explanatory. "Dude, I was only off chasing the bad guy through cities and save the day so he didn't destroy yet another few thousand people. What were you doing? Where are the guys you two were in charge of taking care of?"

Kayden pointed to a pile of three dead bodies, he looked almost bored. "Over there, I killed them."

"You killed them?" I inquired, kinda proud, but trying to hide it.

Lethias interjected, "I tried to stop him, but he did it anyway. They were begging for mercy and he killed them, right at his feet!" you could tell Lethias was kind of upset by this.

"They tried to kill me, they get to die." Kayden responded simply, as if killing was a daily job. "The other one got away somehow, or I woulda killed him too."

I nodded slowly. The one that got away must have been the one with portals. "Good job Kayden, you know how to get shit done! Time to roll out!" I commanded as I fell back onto four legs and rearranged my bone structure to be that of a feral again.

"Good job?!" Lethias cried. "He killed three people in cold blood!"

I just shrugged my shoulders. "So what? They woulda killed more than three had we not stopped them. Either way, we have to get home, let's go."

Kayden jumped on my back as I flew away. Lethias stayed on the ground begrudgingly, but eventually came after a minute or so.

We had to report back to our friends, if things were going to go the way I hoped and planned, things were gonna be pretty good for us furry types.
